- GR-16 walkthrough : Jim Audio has made a very efficient iPad DAW in Groove Rider GR-16. At first, I did not know what to think of it. It took me some time to actually understand the workflow that Jim Pavlov has applied in this great sounding app.
In this video I give you a walkthrough of Groove Rider GR-16. Hope you like it!

By far the best explanation of this app..
I got yesterday....in the 30 min playing, I got a lot of knowledge how it works in the basic...-in the deeper is awesome to discovering..thanks to your videos and other, I get a lot more knowledge
I bought this and poison 202 a few months ago, I love it, it's a nice throwback to the original electribes. Great video btw! There is a learning curve but it's worth taking the time.
Another great tutorial 👍
Thanks
Very nice to to software without all those difficulties of all the sub windows
More software makers can take a lesson from this guy
I wish I had a daw with less sub windows
Thanks for this, very helpful.
Good one. Thanks. Good explanation of the Env section.
I got this last week and oh man it is good. Also now you have wavetable synthesis, the osc parameter name is actually reflected on the UI, so it's easier to know what you are modifying. The opnly thing I miss from my circuit is the option to have multiple independent patterns per sound, here each pattern is shared between al the parts, so if you want to have a B section for the bass you have to create a new different pattern, and now if you make a modification on this second patter in doesn't reflect on the first one, but it's just a different workflow.
How much did you pay for your Circuit Tracks? I’m considering copping a used one to accompany my ipad, sp555, and PO33
Hey nu trix, that was great. Helps a lot. 👍💃🏼🕺🏼
It's an almost 1 to 1 replication of the Electribe 2/2 Sampler
cool sounds .... summer tunes woohoo!!
Hey great video can you use a midi synth to control sounds when you record a pattern as opposed to just using step record
GR16 is a blatant copy of the Korg Electribe2 (which is a blatant copy of the DSI tempest). Great job though, wish Korg would actually implement these updates into the staling e2
Hi everybody, late to the party here. I'm enjoying the app, but I can't figure out how to change tempo. Under pattern, most of the parameters (Length, Rhythm Base, Swing, etc) open up drop-down menus when you hold them. When I hold the Tempo parameter, nothing happens, no drop-down. It just sits there. And I can't see any other way to change the tempo. Am I missing something, or do I have a bad copy of the app or something? Thanks!
The tempo is found in the menu (either in song or pattern mode) move the cursor on the tempo line. To change th value press and hold the round knob just under the up and own arrows (to the left of the menu screen). While holding glide up and down to change the value.
I love this app. Same workflow as the electribe I got started on back in the 90s. A great instrument for live performance!
Hello great video. Can I connect a midi keyboard to play the synths and other instruments sounds with the pattern playing/running.
Yes! you can also sequence up to 16 external synths with it too
@Rhizosphere I'm in love with GR-16, If you have any question shoot away, I'm obsessed lol
@Rhizosphere I have both. GR-16 by far! Korg products are great, but they always feel artificially limited. In the case of Wave: you can only have 8 samples (and only percusive), the saving process is more cumbersome (open a menu, tap save, select a pad, write a name or press enter) you don't have a send FX, Only a master one. The synth might be a little stronger but you can't play samples like a synth or add wavetables for free. The workflow in GR-16 is just on another level. I played for days on the wave and I only made like 3 patterns. I did 20 on the first three days with GR-16!
@Rhizosphere I don't have the electribe 2 so I don't know. You can export the sound of your patterns but it won't be on the same format for shure. And you could sequence the electribe 2 if it has midi in (which I suppose it has) but I doubt it's worth it.
GR-16 patterns are saved with all it's information so if you save a pattern you will have all the samples and wavetables to open it on another device with GR-16. Great for back ups too. It has an option to save all the patterns at once too.
Great video. Thanks for making it.
Hello there, i got myself also this app. Watching video,s about this app. But how do i get a blank workspace just to create my own sounds. Cause when you start this app fore the first time there is a Song already in the app i just oned to start blank.
Thanx fore your answer
Hi, to start for a init memory, press on the pattern name to enter the Pattern Selector. On the left you choose User (Bank) and on the right will appear the list of 256 use memory slots. Just pick an empty (init) one and go!
Fuck! This is amazing.
Yep! One great sounding synth/beatmaker app!
Nutrix! Do you know of any platform on iOS where one can create custom wavetables, not just import them?
None that I know of.
Yo so how about using this with a beatstep pro? wouldn't it be like the perfect groovebox ??
Never thought of that ... interesting.
Awesome app,is there a link for your preset download?
All the presets I used are the « factory » demo. They should be included in the Bank À of the Pattern memory.
Great tutorial! With this kind of apps I am always concerned when it comes to post-production. I suppose you are only able to record a master track and then you can only do some mastering on that?
I would imagine (not sure though) that grooverider can export stems. I am thinking of buying it so I can’t confirm but given what it is and the reviews on the AppStore I’d be surprised if it didn’t offer this option.
The latest update now includes stems export for songs.
I did not try it yet.
Thanks for letting us know!
I’m looking into it since it is a wavetable synth too.... I just wish it were AUV3 like Drambo.
@@EnriquePage91 It is AUv3 now 🏆
Hello sir I'm having some issue with one of my DAWs and I'm looking into buying zenbeats do you think it's a good idea to buy it and flexible program.i use the free version I like
Zenbeats is cool for a DAW on iPad. I find it more natural for me to use then some other DAW. It is only a personal choice. The Mac version of ZenBeats is unstable on my Mac. So I would wait for that version until they fix.
@@Nu-trix I have Android and PC I like it so far should I buy the ultimate version
@@jerrawilliams6115, The ultimate unlock all features and provides more sounds. If you like it already then I would say go!
@@Nu-trix I like ZB too but the native sounds are week (the pre Roland ones ) and the GUI needs work.
I love the workflow in GrooveRider, especially all the hidden depth. To those who also own Elektron Digitakt, are there a lot of similarities? I’ve been trying to decide whether Elektron workflow is right for me - it seems to be from what I’ve seen on youtube. If it’s like a more powerful GR-16, I know I’ll love it.
Not necessarily Prodigy. Google Breaks or Nu skool Breaks. There is a whole genre ;)
why no android? dear god... why!?
Pretty sure there will be an Android version very soon now :)
G stomper is very close to this.
Even better in some parts
It actually runs good on my 4th gen iPad
Good thing: if u know the korg e2 u know this....and this is even better:)
Mine would keep asking me to rate it. Got sick of it interrupting me and used another app.
GR-16... Not JR. That’s the bad guy from ‘Dallas’ 😉
Again, my French accent is betraying me. ;-)
Sounds cr@ppy like reason
