Fun fact: the Mother of All Faces appeared in the comics that centei on finding Ursa, Zuko's mother. Her character is important for the plot and for Netflix to reference her in the live action, it was interesting change of pace
I still can't believe they showed Wan Shi Tong already. Also, is it just me, or is Koh creepier than ever here? Also, one thing I'll praise this adaptation for is diving deeper into Aang and Gyatso's friendship. Gyatso waited 100 years to see the friend he loved before he could move on. That's so amazing and tragic.
Regarding Wan Shi Tong, I think they decided to include him here so that it would be easier to include him in the next season. And I agree, Koh is even creepier than ever, partly because they decided to turn him into a predatory spirit that actively searches for victims.
Agree. Many said that Aang needed to hear those words from Gyatso too which didnt really happen in animated series. That it wasnt all his fault and that he needed to let go of the guilt 😭
@@thesunisup_ I think they showed him so they can better use the CGI without using too much of the budget for season 2. I mean... "The Library" is a very important episode, since that's where the gang learns about the eclipse. It would be foolish for them not to adapt it. But if they do decide to do it, I am curious to know if they will keep it exactly as it is or they will make some adjustments, considering the gang met Wan Shi Tong already in the live-action.
I was really happy about the show putting more of Gyatso in. The original did a great job with showing Aang and Gyatso's relationship in a small amount of time, but it's great that the adaptation chose to explore this relationship a bit further.
Koh's design in live-action is just like his animated counterpart but he stole faces from people after cocooning them instead of stealing their faces after they showed emotions
Koh became a predatory spirit in the live-action and that is reflected on his way of being. I don't know why they would make him like this instead of keeping the original concept, but I personally think it's an idea that could work well if well developed, considering making him prey actively on people for their faces would make his obsession more interesting.
@LettsReact In the show we saw in the flashbacks that Azula did have red fire before blue as a child and we didn't see azula in the first season so she could have had red fire during the first season still training to be perfect but that is just speculation
I think that season 2 is going to be when they will have Azula show her blue fire. Because if you think about it one of the reasons why they put Azula in season 1 for the live action was to show more of her training, to show how she became the prodigy that she is, and also why she acts the way she does in season 2-3, and that's probably why her fire is orange for the first season. If you also recall back to the cartoon, in the flash back for the Zuko Alone episode as a little kid Azula's fire was regular orange, but at the age of 14 we all see that her fire is blue, showing that she definitely did a lot of training to become more powerful. The same probably goes for live action Azula, showing her training to become more powerful, and to show her blue flames for season 2.
I wish the show runners from both animated and live action Netflix The Last Airbender shows should have acknowledged and said it by saying "there's something different about Momo, this Flying Lemur is special compared to the others." because in both versions, Momo showed a higher emotional intelligence, he understands when humans are referring to him.
According to a thing Nick did where they aired episodes with pop up fun facts, Momo was intended to be Gyatso reincarnated but they never finalized an episode about that.
Fire only turns blue when it’s at it’s hottest degree. I think they’re only showing flickers of the blue fire to show Azula is still training and learning to master her element. For a firebender to have blue fire all the time would probably take an immense amount of training and skill. I think they’re basically trying to slowly show her development into mastering her bending, especially since they intentionally cast a younger looking actress. I think it was more believable that Azula was so powerful at her age because of how they drew her in the anime, since she was pretty much supposed to be the same age as she’s portrayed here.
I think azula's fire not being blue yet is just a caveat of her being introduced so early. In the og series we saw glimpses of azula but she never had any importance or lines. Here we get to see her progression into the perfectionist we see in season 2 and beyond. We see what drives her. And eventually that she trains so hard her fire becomes blue.
One of the best additions in this series is Gyatso and Aang scene in the spirit world. Aang needed to hear those words from Gyatso which didnt really happen in animated series. That it wasnt his fault and that he needed to let go of the guilt 😭
Azula didn't always have blue fire. When she was younger in Zuko Alone it was the normal red fire. We see it flash blue that one time and when she's training at the end the last fire blast looked like it might have had some blue in it so she could be working on developing that ability and maybe later we'll see it blue all the time from her.
OK I have a lot to say about this episode (and especially the next one) so I'm just gonna rapid fire a few thoughts in this comment. - Spirited Away, what a fitting title! Not only is it a cool reference to one of the most iconic Studio Ghibli movies of all time, but the number of spirits we see here are crazy. And my god, Koh is so much creepier here! The animators and sound designers really went all out on the creepiness factor! - Building off of the previous point it's interesting how they're combing so much stuff into these Book 1 episodes. We got stuff from the OG show, the Legend of Korra and even the ATLA comics! The references might go over the heads of some people who aren't invested in the latter two but it is interesting to bring so many pieces of the canon together. - Aang's touching reunion with Gyatso was really fun to watch. I love their dynamic in this show so much. Also, I totally buy that he would remain in the Spirit World until Aang needed him or ran into him. If Iroh can do it with Korra, why can't Aang do it with him! - June flirting with Iroh is hilarious, nothing else to really say there XD - I know some people are a bit conflicted on Ozai's personality in this adaptation, but I think it's an interesting way to take his character especially his relationship to Zuko and Azula. We see that while Zuko is banished, Azula is heavily involved in statecraft, military matters and other aspects of being a ruler. Which I love because one question I had in the back of my head durign the OG show is, what exactly was she doing during Book 1? Here, she seems to want to prove that she's not only the better child but the better choice for heir. Her father however sees through her, as he calls it "self-serving flattery" and pushes her to do better. People may say he's not as abusive as he appears in the OG show, but I somewhat disagree. He's clearly still pushing his children hard to mold them into what he believes would be symbols of strength for the Fire Nation. We see that when Azula is outside training that she's pushing herself hard to be "perfect." Maybe Ozai isn't as abrasive with how he acts in this adaptation, but his actions still have a huge effect on Azula. - OMG yes, Wan Shi Tong in this adaptation is voiced by Oogway's voice actor (Randall Duk Kim)! I can't believe it took me so long to figure it out! Now I can't unhear it lol
Hi love your take on this! It's very detailed and some I didnt think much until I read this, like the Spirited Away title from Ghibli. The avatarnetflix team actually when it comes to small details like such
I know they’ve already seen the whole season at this point, but I like this as like 4, 2-part episodes. Like 1&2, 3&4, 5&6, 7&8. I think it helps with the flow a lil bit
I love how Momo was wanting to eat the acorn but then seeing Katara was asking to get it to give to a sad Aang, he gave it to her... Momo is sooo awesome
@@oscarnator230 Or perhaps not. I mean, the live action is more enjoyable if you detach yourself from the cartoon series. I really think that the show would have been so much better if they had 12 episodes instead of eight. It would have given more space to have character and relationship building scenes between the main gang, which is something I kind of missed. While I enjoyed the show enough, it felt rushed and i missed some of aang and katara’s characterization and development. One last thing I don’t know how to feel about; I don’t feel like Zuko has ever been a villain in the live action like he was in the cartoon. We know too much about him too soon and sympathize with him too soon, which kinda worries me that his redemption arc might not hit as hard as it did in the cartoon.

I think you are being a little dramatic. The series has some very real problems and some decisions are a bit confusing. But the movie is just unwatchable.
