@@Wae2Reel I think there are two messages in this film. First, you can succeed and have a good full life even if you have a deficiency or arent perfect. Forrest wasnt smart but look at how successful and rich his life was, or Lt Dan, who was lost for so long but even without legs he pulled his life together and became whole and happy. The 2nd is that life is going on all around you, sometimes you need to stop thinking about where you are going and take a look around you, where you are at the moment. I think so many of us are always looking to the future and goals and down the road, but Forrest always had time for the moment. When asked how it was in Vietnam he remembered the stars at night, not the horrors or loss. When he was in the desert he noticed the sunrise, or the lake like a mirror in the mountain, the way the setting sun sparkled off of the water on his boat. This movie is easily in my top ten all time. You laugh, you cry, you are in awe. There is action and love and growth. It's got everything.
To add to the really neat points in the movie...when the guy in the army gives him the ping pong paddle and ball for the first time he says the most important part is keeping your eye on the ball. So that's what Forrest does, and he never misses. At the end, when he's teaching his son, he misses the ball - some say he's getting older, passing the torch - but that's not how Forrest's mind works. He was just keeping his eyes on the most important thing - his son.
It was nice to see you showed compassion for Jennie, understanding an abused kid feels unworthy of love until they find a way to heal through therapy or something... A lot of reactors hate her, but the line that always gets to me is when Forrest explains in his narration "some times, there are jus not enough rocks". She was damaged so much, there were not enough rocks. I was happy to see she came to her senses, even if too late to see her son grow and spend happy years with Forrest.
Gump was on the Dick Cavette show, a big time talk show in the day. Very few reactions notice that Gump is giving the Lennon the lyrics for Imagine, Lennon's last hit song.
Funny thing about that clip on Cavette, gump was superimposed over Yoko Ono, who went on the show with Lennon. You can actually watch the real interview on youtube, but with Yoko instead of Gump

Having gotten his degree Forrest would have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. Not a recruit. His ASVAB kills that. 5. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around. 6. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his/her separation date. 7. Jenny did indeed give him the best gift ever (it wasn't the shoes)😈 8. Jenny died of Hep-C from dirty needles when she was in Caliphony.. 9. It's ironic that Lt. Dan told the guys to take care of their feet because he loses his. 10. At the rally Forrest says, "There's only one thing I can say about Vietnam. Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that." 11. You have had a ride through recent US history and culture. From Elvis, John Lennon, Abby Hoffman to Vietnam and Watergate. Even the jogging craze of the 70's. About the only thing left out was streaking. 12. Observation: Bubba's not a small dude. Forrest carries him with a bullet in his ass.😲 13. Sometimes, I guess there're just aren't enough rocks"🥺 14. Haley Joel Osmentt/Forrest Jr. steals the show in "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis.🤩 15. When he's finishing a segment about death, he ends it by saying "That's all I have to say about that" 16 Keep in mind if Jenny wasn't wasting her life seeking men like her father and was with Forrest he/we wouldn't have had this incredible journey.
Something you left out. Gary Sinise (Lt Dan) actually has a band in real life called The Lieutenant Dan Band. And they do a lot of work for disabled veterans and those with ptsd. In fact one of the men they’ve helped is Michael Conner Humphreys (Little Forrest).
This is a film classic. It’s a fictional character going through and intertwined with the U.S.’s most memorable historical moments. Plus it’s a tribute to each decade’s most iconic songs in one incredible movie soundtrack. The movie was so popular there actually exists a chain of BubbaGump Shrimp restaurants in the USA and globally too. I’ve been to 4 of the 6 located in CA including the 1st ever opening in Monterey,CA. They’re decorated with sets from the movie. It’s pretty neat.

My mom looked exactly like Sally Field when we were kids and were convinced she had a secret movie career, it freaked us out. I sincerely cried when she died. And that's all I have to say about that...Tom Hanks is absolutely brilliant, even when playing a local idiot. When he asks Jenny if he's smart...It gets me every time. Actually one of the first scenes filmed was Forrest at Jenny's grave. That's amazing acting. One of the most clever, hilarious, heartfelt films ever.

Jenny Equates love with sex or feeling needed by others who equate it with sex - she isn't doing this to Forest on purpose - she thinks in the moment and not beyond and then when she gets beyond - she regrets her decisions - most of all she regrets that she is hurting Forest and feels she is not good enough for him - but all along Forest accepted her as she is and always would.

The message of this movie is that Forrest had a positive impact on the lives of everyone that he met. Except Richard Nixon - maybe the positive impact was on the American people. The toughest one for Forrest to help was Jenny. She had the greatest trauma in her life and was the hardest one for Forrest to reach. By making her a momma, he gave her something positive to focus on instead of focusing on her inner demons.

Tom Hanks is one of Thee Greatest Actors of All Time! Newer generations also don't understand: "He was a very loving man. He was always kissing and touching her and her sisters." In 'narrations like this' you got to account for whom is telling it. Forrest is 'different' and from that perspective he's just telling the facts. But Y'all got it! YAY! In movies - it can be only one or a few words, or an image, a tiny little hint that you may or many not see or hear that can make all the difference in the world. "...almost cried"?!? "We" supporters have seen any given movie you react to many times, some like me too many times to count. Now - given there are a lot of others whom "only live for jump scares" and others that "live for shocking value" etc. but they're a fleeting lot. Others like me 'prefer' that you have similar reactions or even different reactions to how we experience them. Reactions are not just reacting but soo much more. You need to connect us to you and to the movie through your reactions. "Generational gaps" are differences between the generations. For most up to and including some/many Generation X/Millennial's - we 'keep our promises' but sadly that seems to have fallen to the way side after that. These 'Generational Gaps' span the whole of humanity; from how we were raised, the social environment we're raised in too soo much more. Ever notice how he looks at things? "Your boy's different Mrs. Gump." When he's talking about Miracles... Talking to Jenny about being scared in Vietnam... When Elvis is on the TV in the window - Momma says: "That's not for children's eyes." refers to the controversy about Elvis' hip gyrations... "Too sexual" among other things; there are articles about it. A lot of 'small things' like that go over most reactors heads as I've seen various reactions to Momma saying that from: "He made it up" to 'its his moves' etc... FYI: Gary Sinise's life changed after playing Lt Dan! He was touched by the Veterans that he touched! Soo much so he made: "Gary Sinise Foundation" Thank you both for sharing!

It's easy to miss it, but you can see Jenny at 39:09 and again more clearly from 39:13 all cleaned up and working as a waitress. It's easy to miss because the focus is on the TV where she works. The TV is reporting on Forrest's run across the country, which Jenny clearly sees and notices. This tells us that Jenny was working hard to get her life together so that she can be worthy of Forrest's love. That's why she left after having sex with Forrest. She did not consider herself worthy - yet. Also the disease Jenny has was probably AIDS. The year being 1981, that would align perfectly the first cases of the mysterious AIDS disease which was first reported in June 1981. It would also align with her history of IV drug use. It wasn't until several years later that a probable cause was discovered. That's why Jenny said it's "some kind of a virus and the doctors don't know anything they can do about it."

When I was a kid I had this movie on VHS. It's been one of my most favourite movies my entire life and I can still quote the entire thing.

Jenny Equates love with sex or feeling needed by others who equate it with sex - she isn't doing this to Forest on purpose - she thinks in the moment and not beyond and then when she gets beyond - she regrets her decisions - most of all she regrets that she is hurting Forest and feels she is not good enough for him - but all along Forest accepted her as she is and always would.

The message of this movie is that Forrest had a positive impact on the lives of everyone that he met. Except Richard Nixon - maybe the positive impact was on the American people. The toughest one for Forrest to help was Jenny. She had the greatest trauma in her life and was the hardest one for Forrest to reach. By making her a momma, he gave her something positive to focus on instead of focusing on her inner demons.

Much, much, much better but "Seems" a bit over the top. Forrest Gump (1994) is considered by many to be one of thee greatest movies of all time as do I. Tom Hanks is one of Thee Greatest Actors of All Time! Newer generations also don't understand: "He was a very loving man. He was always kissing and touching her and her sisters." In 'narrations like this' you got to account for whom is telling it. Forrest is 'different' and from that perspective he's just telling the facts. But Y'all got it! YAY! In movies - it can be only one or a few words, or an image, a tiny little hint that you may or many not see or hear that can make all the difference in the world. "...almost cried"?!? "We" supporters have seen any given movie you react to many times, some like me too many times to count. Now - given there are a lot of others whom "only live for jump scares" and others that "live for shocking value" etc. but they're a fleeting lot. Others like me 'prefer' that you have similar reactions or even different reactions to how we experience them. Reactions are not just reacting but soo much more. You need to connect us to you and to the movie through your reactions. "Generational gaps" are differences between the generations. For most up to and including some/many Generation X/Millennial's - we 'keep our promises' but sadly that seems to have fallen to the way side after that. These 'Generational Gaps' span the whole of humanity; from how we were raised, the social environment we're raised in too soo much more. Ever notice how he looks at things? "Your boy's different Mrs. Gump." When he's talking about Miracles... Talking to Jenny about being scared in Vietnam... When Elvis is on the TV in the window - Momma says: "That's not for children's eyes." refers to the controversy about Elvis' hip gyrations... "Too sexual" among other things; there are articles about it. A lot of 'small things' like that go over most reactors heads as I've seen various reactions to Momma saying that from: "He made it up" to 'its his moves' etc... FYI: Gary Sinise's life changed after playing Lt Dan! He was touched by the Veterans that he touched! Soo much so he made: "Gary Sinise Foundation" Thank you both for sharing!

It's easy to miss it, but you can see Jenny at 39:09 and again more clearly from 39:13 all cleaned up and working as a waitress. It's easy to miss because the focus is on the TV where she works. The TV is reporting on Forrest's run across the country, which Jenny clearly sees and notices. This tells us that Jenny was working hard to get her life together so that she can be worthy of Forrest's love. That's why she left after having sex with Forrest. She did not consider herself worthy - yet. Also the disease Jenny has was probably AIDS. The year being 1981, that would align perfectly the first cases of the mysterious AIDS disease which was first reported in June 1981. It would also align with her history of IV drug use. It wasn't until several years later that a probable cause was discovered. That's why Jenny said it's "some kind of a virus and the doctors don't know anything they can do about it."

Since he was in this movie and became this character, I have only seen him as Forest Gump starring in all these other movies. This was my favorite performance by him, and I quote the movie all the time. (Not just chocolates and running).
This movie won awards for it's CGI effects. The historical scenes, the feather, and the ping pong ball was mostly put in later in post.
In the book, Jenny contract Hepatitis C. For the movie, the just let the viewer imagine their own worst nightmare virus.
