They set the standard for harmonizing. A standard that was not wasted on Simon and Garfunkel, The Beatles, Crosby, Stills and Nash, etc., etc., etc...... Nice reaction.
@@brianwilson3952 true. plus, the platters, ink spots too.
And many more before
Don't forget the Beach Boys, the only group that equaled their harmonizing. And the Beach Boys' inspiration the Four Freshmen.
I got to see them live 😀
The Drifters?
They were two of the founding fathers of Rock & Roll. Our music
They were also considered to be one of the pioneers of country rock.
These guys influenced generation’s of musicians after them.,They were that good. Impeccable harmony. Made so many songs throughout their career. They were immensely popular even overseas.
And yet again no autotune. Just pure skill and quality.
Autotune would NEVER help the Everly Brothers or anybody else of that caliber. It is ONLY useful for a average singer who has some pitch problems here and there to help them at least get through the song in decent shape. That's it.
It's a lucky person that gets to discover the Everly brothers.
They sing so tightly it is as if there was only one person singing. Beautiful. In terms of harmonies, the GOAT.
My favorite Everly Bro song was I'll Do My Crying In The Rain.
When Will I Be Loved -1960
Let It Be Me - 1977
Walk Right Back - 1952
Wake Up Little Susie - 1957
Bye Bye Love - 1969
Til I Kissed You -1960
Problems - 1969
Just a few that were hits for them.
Wings of a Nightingale - 1984
Born Yesterday - 1985
Why Worry - 1986
Don´t Worry Baby - 1988
The best harmonizing duo ever. Big influences on Bee Gees, Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel and many others. Two real brothers. Don, on the right, was 23 in this clip, Phil on the left was 21. Their harmonies were so good due to their shared DNA. Give a listen to Let It Be Me, another huge hit. And Bye, Bye Love. They were among the first group of rockers inaugurated into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they were that good.
Reminds me of my parents who were huge Everly Brothers fans, fond memories of my childhood. The Everly Brothers could harmonize like no others, still sound fantastic today.
My mom always talked about how she would listen to The Everly Brothers while she wrote love letters to my dad - They're both in Heaven now , listening to The Everly Brothers together 💕
@@mikeyates7931 So sweet! I am sorry about the loss of your parents, but I love that you can see them in heaven listening to the beautiful voices of The Everly Brothers. 💘💘😍😍
My mother adored them. She saw them when they toured ( NZ) in 1964.
The musicians in the background are the 3 surviving members of Buddy Holly's band, The Crickets. The Beatles were such huge Buddy Holly fans they chose their name in homage to The Crickets. Fantastic reaction S & M. Cheers, RNB
Phil was a pallbearer but Don was too distraught to go to Buddy's funeral.
yeah thought that was Joe B Mauldin and Jerry allinson, couldn't quite see the other. Damn spectacles need renewing lol
@@karlmay1949 The 3rd one is Sonny Curtis, he wrote the theme song for Mary Tyler Moore and "I fought the law"
@@shoknifeman2mikado135 yeah thanks. Of course it would be lol, don't know about specs more like my memory needs renewing lol.
@@karlmay1949 Welcome to the aging club
All I Have to Do is Dream and Cathy's Clown were 2 of the group's 3 #1 hits. These 2 were 1958 and 1960 respectively.
The 3rd one was Wake Up Little Susie from 1957.
Yes please 🙏 😍 🙌 ☺
Cathys Clown was written about a girl one of the brothers dated in school
These boys make me feel I'm on a cloud floating peacefully in a dream 😀
I thought it was Winona Judd
Complete emotional reaction to "All I Have to do is Dream" -> the song my beloved would sing to me over the phone every night while we were apart. He is gone now and I miss him so. RIP Jim. Love you always.
Finally! Someone reacting to Everly Brothers, you will love their songs and their beautiful voices. Thank you💖
I think we should take a moment just to appreciate their great hair! Oh, I had such a crush on them when I was a young teenager.
Like most men in the day, they should have had shares in Brylcreem! :D
you can't beat the slick back with quiff look lol
My late brother and I could harmonize like this....I really miss him...Don Everly, the older brother on the right who songs the solos, recently passed away in August 2021. Brother Phil passed away in 2014. they really need to do a well done movie on these two. they were among the first to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Thomas Timlin. They had an agreement that no movie would be made about them as long as their mom was alive. . . . .and she just passed away last year at 101.
My grandmas favorite singers they are just so dreamy and romantic
One of many great Everly Brothers songs. Real pioneers of rock.
The ‘secret’ to their beautiful harmonies is that they are brothers.
The shape and size of their throat, chest, mouth and pharynx, and nasal cavities are very similar - even for brothers. This gives them the same timbre and resonance. Then there is their enunciation and accent - almost identical, because they grew up together.
As someone who appreciates musical talent but doesn't have an ounce of my own, I love these tidbits of info that I find in the comments. Thank you for enlightening me with your knowledge.
The same for the Bee Gees and The Beach Boys
A couple of the pioneers of rock and roll. Two singers who made one voice. Rest in peace. You can do a real deep dive on these two anytime. Thier last major hit was "Born Yesterday" in the 1980's.
Love The Everly Brothers. I watch their documentary every time it comes on PBS. They have much more songs than people realize. May they rest in peace.
They had their own, incredible harmonized sound. Check out “Wake Up Little Susie”!
Back in the day (1950s to early 1960s) these two talented and handsome lads were right up there with Elvis and Ricky Nelson as singing idols.
one of the reasons The Everly's harmonies were so good is that the were SIBLINGS, in their case brothers.
Sibling harmonies, be they brothers, sisters or a mixture of both, and often uniquely good, due to sharing the same genes as their parents, plus living(and singing) together in the same house until adulthood.
It's extremely hard for non-siblings to copy.
Back when music was simple, and singers had actual talent. So yes, the good ole days.
Ever hear rappers harmonizing like that? I never did, either.
Shawn and Mel, Don and Phil were actual brothers. Country queen Reba also did this song some years ago.
Ricky Nelson "Teenage Idol" "A Wonder Like You" basically any of earlier songs, There's Johnny B. Goode by Chunk Berry. Anything and everything from Fats Domino. Conway Tweety started off in the 50-60's "It's Only Make Believe" and doing this kind of music but when he returned after serving in the Military he saw his future held more promise in country music so we raked it in with that decision because he put out some of the best country songs ever like Hello Darlin' ...Never Been This Far Before... I See The Want To In Your Eyes. A band named Paul Revere & The Raiders had a song called Indian Reservation (Cherokee Nation) which is just a really good song.
Let it be me by the verily brothers is a beautiful song
Thank you for playing this song. It is one of my favorites. ♥️ When your guy kissed your hand, I died! So sweet.
He's such a romantic smoothie, isn't he, you're a lucky girl, Mel!
It just trips me out that you haven’t heard these songs SOMEWHERE!
Well, I guess we all spend a lot of our lives in our own little world, don’t we?
this song is note for note harmonized between two brothers and live no auto tune or other bullshit!!!!!!!! probably the greatest duet of all time because every word and note is together! the rest of there songs their playing off each other. this one there TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!
They both laid down their careers in 1961 when they both joined the Marines. True Patriots.
Dreamlover- Bobbi Darren. Awesome reaction guys.
I was so blessed to be a part of that generation.
Love the two of you! Kissing your beautiful lady's hand...that was so sweet!!!!
If you like the Everlys, check out there song -"Let it Be Me." Warning: Tear Jerker
One of the most beautiful songs of the rock era.
true tear jerker by them Ebony Eyes !
yess
Love the Everly Brothers - catchy songs and sublime harmonies. I grew up listening to them as my parents had all their records. My dad used to look a lot like Don (the dark haired one) when he was younger.
I Love You two 💕 You're such a Beautiful Loving Couple 💖 GOD Bless You Both 💞
It has often been said that no one can harmonize as good as kin can..
It must be genetics
Even The Beatles were great fans of the Everly Brothers
They tried to copy their harmony but they could never equal it.
Just a side note to the Everly Brothers, they served in the Marine Corps together. They has some fantastic music for sure.
They had some of the tightest harmony ever.
I absolutely love this video, I’ve watched it at least 4 times. It makes me so happy because I love the Everly brothers, and I think your reactions are so funny and I’m so happy that there are a lot of people out there who find this music as lovely as me. 🥰
Greatest Duo of All Time!!!!! No one had there harmony!!!!!
Sooo truw
Beatles said that's where they learned their harmonizing. Side note. Axls girlfriend was Erin Everly daughter of Don Everly the smaller one. Sweet child of mine was written about her.
Harmonies. That IS life on many levels.
This is one of my favorites by them. Then there is Till I kissed you, Let it be me, anotje fav, when will I be loved.
No auto-tone, just pure talent. These guys had many hits.
The Everly Brothers influenced so many others with their harmonies and melodies. You really should listen to Wake Up Little Suzy, a fun song and represents the innocence of the 50s.
So glad to see young people listening to our music todays music ain’t music. No heart no feeling.look how happy these two are
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the first year it started. These guy have been my favorites since I heard Cathy’s Clown when I was 7 yrs old. Like others have said, many of our greatest and most well known singers have said the Everly Brothers were their inspiration to become singers. I loved them and followed their careers my entire life.
They were great I must say and still love them till this day
Good show you guys
Australia 💕 Christina
Everly Brothers are legends. My mum and grandmother loved these two and got me into them
One of my brother and my favorite groups. Voices are smooth as silk!
There’s something about family harmonies!
I was born in late Oct. of '54....My parents were 19 & 20 yrs old then .... so, I grew up listening to these songs...............
When you kissed her hand I fell in love all over again. Yall are so beautiful.
Words make the song. Back then, carefully chosen words and a simple melody broke chart records and popularized early rock n roll. Not only these brothers could sing... both were and became U.S Marines as well.
I had a girlfriend named Cathy when this song came out. So of course I got tagged as "Cathy's Clown". Funny thing is, now we're Facebook friends but haven't seen each other in person since the year that song was a hit. Life is weird.
I HAVE THEIR LP I BOUGHT IN 60 WITH THESE SONGS ON IT. STILL PLAY IT EVERY NOW AND THEN.
All about the harmony. Gold standard.
In a way, I wish I could hear them for the first time again. Loved them for a long time. World class harmonies.
Welcome to my high school years with sock hops in the gym after the football and basketball games. They set the standard for harmony and all of their songs shot to the top of the Billboard charts. There were times when they had three too 10 songs on the charts at a time. From 1957 to 1960 they had four #1 hits that stayed there for 15 to 20 weeks. My favorite is "Let It Be Me". My favorite album is "Songs Our Daddy Taught Us". And let's not overlook the fact that they were easy on the eyes. When I heard they were going to have a reunion concert after not singing together for 26 years, I wondered if they could pull it off. NOT TO WORRY!! They sounded as good in 1983 as they did in 1957 and blew the top off of Royal Albert Hall. R I P to the two most incredible singers ever. Sorry to run on, but I loved these guys.
When I was a little girl I remember this All I have to do is Dream coming on radio and trying to sing it, I loved even as a child , so pretty
This was the number 1 song in 1958. The year I was born. I learned how to harmonize listening to the Everly Brothers
Phil and Don's harmonies influenced so many groups. I am so grateful that i got to see them up close at a concert in Ottawa.
This is true harmony at its best….R.I.P. Don and Phil Everly
They where there right at the beginning of the Rock and Roll Scene in the 50’s!
That kiss on your lady hands was everything. I can tell you indeed was moved by the wonderful words of the song. God bless you both. 🙏🏾
Everly Brothers songs: Bird Dog 1958, Bye Bye Love 1957, Problems 1958, Wake Up Little Susie 1957, Bowling Green 1967, Crying in the Rain 1962, Love is Strange 1965, So Sad 1960, The Price of Love 1965, Till I Kissed You 1960, Walk Right Back 1961, When Will I Be Loved 1960. There are more but these are the main songs.
I forgot about "Bird Dog!" I loved that song. My Dad played the guitar & this was one of the songs he sang after a few beers. Great memories. 🥰
@@bju194422 Oh wow. That must have been great. It's one of my favorites. Funny and catchy.
How in the world did they stay in tune -- especially with all that harmonizing -- without all the modern tricks (like autotune)?
Redington Denver. Because they were just that good. I'm not a fan of all the technology and think if you need autotune, maybe you shouldn't be a singer.
I watched this broadcast when it happened. Both songs were smash hits and, even as a kid, I was blown away by how good they sounded.
My god that was a long time ago. Love these guys
The backing band is Buddy Holly’s Crickets, after Buddy was killed in a plane crash. Jerry Allison on drums, Joe B. Mauldin on bass and Niki Sullivan on guitar.
The Everly Brothers was the first concert I ever went to when I was about 12 years old or so, with my parents and aunt and uncle. ❤️
Performing live. One microphone, modulating the sound by moving back and forth. They were incredible. Little known fact: "Cathy's Clown," written by Don to feature his brother's high harmony, was a monster hit, and it saved Warner Bros. from bankruptcy. Don was a talented songwriter who wrote a Top Ten Country hit when he was still in high school. My favorites are Don's compositions: "Son Sad (To Watch Good Love Go Bad)" and their mother's favorite, "'Til I Kissed You."
I remember hearing this song back in the 80s for the first time I was probably like 10 years old.
And the first time I heard it I loved it. 💜💚💙💚💜🌹🦋
The harmony is timeless
They were amazing astounding and one of a kind. Their sound was unmatched.
Listening to these guys reminds me of being little and sitting in the backseat of my parents car, Everly Brothers was my parent's favorite Cathy's Clown was my dads anthem because my moms name is Kathy and my parents are high school sweethearts. RIP DON and Phil
Two voices, two guitars... nothing else needed.... and as of August of this year, they're together again and forever. RIP to them both.
we loved the everly brothers -- they became the elderly brothers and kept on singing -- both sadly gone now
My parents used to dance to this before and after they got married! I remember growing up and when ever this song came on they would just start dancing any where they were!
I am so glad you are going back to the 1960's, 1970's, and 1980's
Shawn and Mel, you are absolutely adorable!!! ❤️❤️❤️
They have so much more!
Thanks for the memories of my teen years. They were super talented.
Cathy’s Clown is my all time favorite Everly Brothers song!
Those brothers had such outstanding harmony. R.I.P. Don and Phil❤❤
When my husband and I was in high school, our choir class did this song for a concert we did for all our parents and the concert was called "The 50's and 60's Concert"...
My Mom and Dad danced threw out the full concert...
You’d love “In Dreams” by Roy Orbison. Such a beautiful song.
Thx! Wake up lil’ Susie was banned in some places for the words “oo-la-la!” Back then it was like THAT!
So many bands were influenced by these guys!
You two were carrying on the way we did when we were teenagers dancing to these great songs in the fifties and sixties.
This is one of the album's I bought when I was a kid...great talent..Timeless classic
I just discovered your channel today and I am hooked! I love your reactions!!!
These songs are from an era that the songs told stories.
If you haven't already done so, I suggest listening to "Last Kiss" by J. Frank Wilson and the Caveliers. (Other versions exist, but this is my favorite and I think the original)
Phil & Don Everly were great singers from Kentucky.
The younger brother was born in Chicago where they lived for a short period for their dads work .
My beloved mom and dad, seen the EVERLY BOTHERS, perform live at a officers club, in GERMANY when my dad was stationed in Nirenberg, Germany. Both mom and dad always talked about the EVERLY BROTHERS. Both our parents, still listened to this duo for years. MOM AND DAD, are in heaven now. Probably listening to the EVERLY BROTHERS. RIP - MOM and DAD.
nick Firenze. Heck, since Don and Phil have both passed, maybe your mom and dad have run across them and are listening to them again. Now, THAT would be heaven.
Original inductees into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. All I Have to do is Dream was a big hit when I was 7 years old. It was my favorite.
Kathy’s clown was my favorite song by these great singers, of course, my name is Kathy. LoL!👍👏👏👏🌹🌹
I had their picture taped on my notebook in the 8th grade
In my opinion, the most beautiful song by the Everly Brothers is "Let it Be Me."
Bareege. Mine, too. The bad thing about it was that they always saved it for the last song at their concerts. When you heard it, you knew the party was over.
