They set the standard for harmonizing. A standard that was not wasted on Simon and Garfunkel, The Beatles, Crosby, Stills and Nash, etc., etc., etc...... Nice reaction.
Performing live. One microphone, modulating the sound by moving back and forth. They were incredible. Little known fact: "Cathy's Clown," written by Don to feature his brother's high harmony, was a monster hit, and it saved Warner Bros. from bankruptcy. Don was a talented songwriter who wrote a Top Ten Country hit when he was still in high school. My favorites are Don's compositions: "Son Sad (To Watch Good Love Go Bad)" and their mother's favorite, "'Til I Kissed You."
These guys influenced generation’s of musicians after them.,They were that good. Impeccable harmony. Made so many songs throughout their career. They were immensely popular even overseas.
This song absolutely breaks my heart. Throughout their married life my aunt and uncle were always like young lovers. When she died of early onset of Alzheimer’s, they played this song as they brought her into the church. Unknown to me it had been one of their favourite songs, along with Buddy Holly’s True Love Ways, which they played at the end of her funeral. Those two songs now have a special place in my heart.
When my husband and I was in high school, our choir class did this song for a concert we did for all our parents and the concert was called "The 50's and 60's Concert"... My Mom and Dad danced threw out the full concert...
The musicians in the background are the 3 surviving members of Buddy Holly's band, The Crickets. The Beatles were such huge Buddy Holly fans they chose their name in homage to The Crickets. Fantastic reaction S & M. Cheers, RNB
Welcome to my high school years with sock hops in the gym after the football and basketball games. They set the standard for harmony and all of their songs shot to the top of the Billboard charts. There were times when they had three too 10 songs on the charts at a time. From 1957 to 1960 they had four #1 hits that stayed there for 15 to 20 weeks. My favorite is "Let It Be Me". My favorite album is "Songs Our Daddy Taught Us". And let's not overlook the fact that they were easy on the eyes. When I heard they were going to have a reunion concert after not singing together for 26 years, I wondered if they could pull it off. NOT TO WORRY!! They sounded as good in 1983 as they did in 1957 and blew the top off of Royal Albert Hall. R I P to the two most incredible singers ever. Sorry to run on, but I loved these guys.
These guys were BIG back when I was a teen. Their Dad, Ike Everly, was a well known Guitar player in his own right . The boys were part of the family musical act from a young age.
I seen them in the 1980's Right after they got back together again. They never publicly said why the brothers had a falling out. But it took years for them to talk and get back together. They sounded just like they did when they were younger. When I seen them. It sounded like you were listening to a record they sounded so pure. I miss when singers had to actually know how to sing.
They are to this day the most successful Family Duo of all time. Their Music was known as Rockabilly which was Rock with a strong Country Music Influence. In an Unauthorized Documentary about The Beatles they were acknowledged as one of the influences. When Kids first heard She Loves You they called it a combination of Chuck Berry & The Everly Brothers. For a brief time Smokey Robinson and his Late Partner Ronnie White were a duo called Ron & Bill and in his Book Inside My Life (Smokey Robinson) there was a picture of him and Ronnie White and the Caption said "Not The Everly Brothers".
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the first year it started. These guy have been my favorites since I heard Cathy’s Clown when I was 7 yrs old. Like others have said, many of our greatest and most well known singers have said the Everly Brothers were their inspiration to become singers. I loved them and followed their careers my entire life.
All I Have to Do is Dream and Cathy's Clown were 2 of the group's 3 #1 hits. These 2 were 1958 and 1960 respectively. The 3rd one was Wake Up Little Susie from 1957.
The best harmonizing duo ever. Big influences on Bee Gees, Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel and many others. Two real brothers. Don, on the right, was 23 in this clip, Phil on the left was 21. Their harmonies were so good due to their shared DNA. Give a listen to Let It Be Me, another huge hit. And Bye, Bye Love. They were among the first group of rockers inaugurated into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they were that good.
Complete emotional reaction to "All I Have to do is Dream" -> the song my beloved would sing to me over the phone every night while we were apart. He is gone now and I miss him so. RIP Jim. Love you always.
When Will I Be Loved -1960 Let It Be Me - 1977 Walk Right Back - 1952 Wake Up Little Susie - 1957 Bye Bye Love - 1969 Til I Kissed You -1960 Problems - 1969 Just a few that were hits for them.
The back up band is The Crickets, who joined the Everlys on tour for a couple of years after Buddy Holly Died... you'll note that Joe Mauldin is playing a bass guitar instead of a slap bass (To which he'd later return) and note Sonny Curtis on lead guitar (He replaced Buddy on guitar), he wrote the theme song for Mary Tyler Moore and "I fought the law".
These guys were popular when i was in the 3rd grade. it's good to get to hear & see them again, it's been years since I've seen them or heard them, this is the first video that i've seen with them in it. I'll have to look them up on YT to see if there are any more of them singing. Thank-you so much for doing this reaction to them. I love your reaction videos!
Reminds me of my parents who were huge Everly Brothers fans, fond memories of my childhood. The Everly Brothers could harmonize like no others, still sound fantastic today.
My mom always talked about how she would listen to The Everly Brothers while she wrote love letters to my dad - They're both in Heaven now , listening to The Everly Brothers together 💕
@@mikeyates7931 So sweet! I am sorry about the loss of your parents, but I love that you can see them in heaven listening to the beautiful voices of The Everly Brothers. 💘💘😍😍
I love watching you two , your Reactions are so endearing and sweet, please listen everly Brothers down in the willow garden ♥️♥️♥️ mel you n shawn will love it
My beloved mom and dad, seen the EVERLY BOTHERS, perform live at a officers club, in GERMANY when my dad was stationed in Nirenberg, Germany. Both mom and dad always talked about the EVERLY BROTHERS. Both our parents, still listened to this duo for years. MOM AND DAD, are in heaven now. Probably listening to the EVERLY BROTHERS. RIP - MOM and DAD.
nick Firenze. Heck, since Don and Phil have both passed, maybe your mom and dad have run across them and are listening to them again. Now, THAT would be heaven.
this song is note for note harmonized between two brothers and live no auto tune or other bullshit!!!!!!!! probably the greatest duet of all time because every word and note is together! the rest of there songs their playing off each other. this one there TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!
Listening to these guys reminds me of being little and sitting in the backseat of my parents car, Everly Brothers was my parent's favorite Cathy's Clown was my dads anthem because my moms name is Kathy and my parents are high school sweethearts. RIP DON and Phil
A couple of the pioneers of rock and roll. Two singers who made one voice. Rest in peace. You can do a real deep dive on these two anytime. Thier last major hit was "Born Yesterday" in the 1980's.
My late brother and I could harmonize like this....I really miss him...Don Everly, the older brother on the right who songs the solos, recently passed away in August 2021. Brother Phil passed away in 2014. they really need to do a well done movie on these two. they were among the first to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Thomas Timlin. They had an agreement that no movie would be made about them as long as their mom was alive. . . . .and she just passed away last year at 101.
Loved your reaction. Very upbeat and happy and the great energy? WOW! Not to mention the humor when Cathy's Clown kicked in. I've watched this video at least 100 times, but ya'll had me laughing too. I'm now subscribed.
Anyone that harmonized was inspired by The Everly Brothers who were real brothers. Don February 1, 1937 - August 21, 2021 born in Kentucky and Phil January 19, 1939 - January 3, 2014 born in Illinois. The Everly brothers spent most of their childhood in Shenandoah, Iowa. They attended Longfellow Elementary School in Waterloo, Iowa, for a year, but then moved to Shenandoah in 1944, where they remained through early high school.
I absolutely love this video, I’ve watched it at least 4 times. It makes me so happy because I love the Everly brothers, and I think your reactions are so funny and I’m so happy that there are a lot of people out there who find this music as lovely as me. 🥰
My parents used to dance to this before and after they got married! I remember growing up and when ever this song came on they would just start dancing any where they were!
You have to listen to them singing, You’ve Lost That Lovin Feelin, only one sings that and he doesn’t need help. Plus Unchained Melody. They were amazing.
It's a lucky person that gets to discover the Everly brothers.
You guys would love ther bird😊 dog song.

@@brianwilson3952 true. plus, the platters, ink spots too.
And many more before
Don't forget the Beach Boys, the only group that equaled their harmonizing. And the Beach Boys' inspiration the Four Freshmen.
I got to see them live 😀
The Drifters?

Kathy’s clown was my favorite song by these great singers, of course, my name is Kathy. LoL!👍👏👏👏🌹🌹
Thats old fashion and that's the way love should be..ok its another great one by the everly brothers.
Best part of this video is seeing the love you both have.
They were two of the founding fathers of Rock & Roll. Our music
They were also considered to be one of the pioneers of country rock.

Phil was a pallbearer but Don was too distraught to go to Buddy's funeral.

Well, I guess we all spend a lot of our lives in our own little world, don’t we?
The harmonies from the Everly Brothers is from another world. They sound like one voice. The clarity still gives me goosebumps.
Original inductees into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. All I Have to do is Dream was a big hit when I was 7 years old. It was my favorite.
I was born in late Oct. of '54....My parents were 19 & 20 yrs old then .... so, I grew up listening to these songs...............
their songs will heal, kings of harmony

Y'all are doing good. Jerry Lee, Chuck Berry and the Everly Brothers were 3 of the 1st 10 people inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
They could switch harmony one to the other and you could not hear the change. Amazing
They sing so tightly it is as if there was only one person singing. Beautiful. In terms of harmonies, the GOAT.
Harmonies. That IS life on many levels.
