2019 Ford Fusion Titanium with AWD | full review and test drive
    NOTES:

    +(AWD for an extra $2,000)

+(no longer the top trim level, there's now a $40k plus V6 Sport)

    Horsepower: 245 hp @ 5,500

    MPG Highway: 31
    Combined MPG: 25
(although Edmunds reports that real-world MPG numbers are lower)

Cost for a full tank: $2.09/gallon (regular) and $2.81/gallon (premium)
Alright, so what's it actually like to drive this car in the real-world?
Well, let's talk about handling first. I found the fusion to be very responsive. I drive pretty conservatively, especially in rental cars like this, so I don't typically accelerate out of a turn. But I found myself doing that in this car. It just hugs the road really well, and intuitively I felt like the car could handle more speed around these curves. And well....it did. It pretty fun to drive.
    Acceleration:
Good. Very responsive and the engine sounds great when you're accelerating hard, but...well this definitely isn't the quickest sedan in this class. It's not bad - I definitely didn't feel like I needed more speed at any point - in just that, at least in my opinion, I think there's quicker sedans out there. So if you're looking to have one of the fastest cars on the road, well, you might want to look elsewhere. But, if you like a car that drives and performs well (but not exceptionally well) then I think you should check this one out, because I think you'll like it.

    • @HiPlains1
      @HiPlains1 5 років тому

@@jeepguy95 Yes pretty sure they are killing it for North America. Just heard today that the Ford Taurus and chevy crux lines are halting production. Over here the domestics don't sell sedans worth a shit. About the only ones still selling in volume is the Camry, Honda Nissan. But SSUV's keep grabbing more market share all the time. And trucks of course. Ford will be mostly a truck/SUV company exclusively which IMO, is a risky proposition. Because their ecoboosts are not that great for MPG's in real world. Its never like what is posted on the sticker. And with no good gas mileage cars left, they are one energy crisis away from total doom.

I have had a 2010 fusion sel awd-it was great-and now I have a black 2014 fusion titanium with 19" y-spoke wheels. I love it! If you take care of it, like any other car,it will give you no problems. Even the myford touch isnt that bad, although sync 3 us better by far. I commute in it between Cincinnati and Dayton for work and have taken it to Nashville a couple times, and Va. Beach for vacation. Great commuter car and long distance traveler. Powerful, good on gas, and full of features, some of which weren't available on mid-sized cars or weren't standard even on their upper trims back in 2014-like the door lock indicator light that you pointed out and standard led wrap around tail lights and turn signals, atleast in the back. I love how the new fusions have standard leds everywhere. It is sad that this sedan is getting axed after the 2020 model year. I am a sedan man and have loved the fusion ever since it came out in '06,but the market has dramatically shifted, sedans aren't selling, and crossovers and suvs are selling like hotcakes. When I get ready to upgrade, maybe I'll get a great deal on a '19 fusion titanium since dealerships will be trying to unload em. Great review as all of yours are.

I just sold my 2011 Fusion to my niece (amazing car, 200k miles on it, no work but normal wear and tear) and bought a Civic Touring. Drove Fords my whole life till now, but since they are killing their car lines I figured it was time to get used to a new brand, believe me I was still tempted to pull the trigger on another fusion. I was going certified preowned this time around. I frankly just got more bang for my buck compared to similarly priced Fusions. The one thing I will really miss is Microsoft sync. Honda has voice controls, but its kind of cumbersome for playing music off my thumb drive. I cant just simply say "play artist, album, song" etc. and have it play.

I share your opinion. The Fusion feels way more high end with really good quality. I average between highway and street, 26MPG. The car can really move too. Great passing power and smooth quiet delivery. The Touring Accord at full throttle sounds like a buzz saw. The Fusion seats are way more comfy.
But, the Accord is faster, better brakes, and feels more sporty. Just add smooth performance tires to the Fusion and it comes fairly close to the Accord in terms of sporty, but more smooth and composed.
Also, the feel of the road is FAR superior in the Fusion (a good thing).

Fusions are great cars. For some reason the car mags have poo-pooed them, but the other brands in its class are just now catching up to it in all around drivability. The Fusion's main fault is it is not being updated and buyers are always looking for something new.

Got a new 2017 Fusion Platinum. With AWD and park assist, premium paint job, MSRP $41,500. Did get 0% interest for 6 years. Paid $38,000. Got very generous Trade in. Consider the 0% interest a $3000 discount. So maybe $35,00 cost.
After. 20 months, love the car.
I did scratch up one rim. Found the replacement cost was $1000. I’ll live with the scratches.
Between 19 inch low profile tires, and AWD, incredible handling.
Did get the Ford extended warranties. Seven years platinum warranty and Ford Triplecare which includes coverage for tire and wheel replacement. Not my cosmetic damage. A few minor issues. Incredible infotainment system in sync 3. Hated my Acura infotainment system.
Car seats are difficult to install.
Park assist gets me within about 6 inches of the curb every time. Only works if there is a car ahead of the parking space. If not, it keeps going forward to find a car. Not good. Great for city parallel parking.

She is a nice ride but man you're gonna lose so much money in depreciation because this thing plummets like a rock and you're gonna even lose more on it since they ended production. bought mine 8 months ago for $8K, its a 2013 model with the 2.5L FWD has all of the stuff except moonroof and heated seats with only 35k miles on it.

    • @paulstein9258
      @paulstein9258 5 років тому +1

Munther I understand you point. Previous cars. All new. Acura, Honda Pilot, Honda Ridgeline, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry Solara.
All reliable. All good resales value. None enjoyable to drive. The Fusion Is. Took Ford Platinum 7 year, zero deductible warranty. Also 6 year financing at 0% interest.
Love this car and resale value difference means very little at that point.
Could be a problem if it’s totaled except I have Liberty Mutual better car replacement. They will replace it with the same model one year newer, and with fewer miles.
The trouble with high resale value cars. Tempted to, and I did, trade them in often. Costs me more in the long run.

Hello! Several of you have been kind enough to educate me on the rear seat belts on the Fusion. For those that don't know, they're actually inflatable seat belts, meaning the strap on the belt has a built in airbag that can deploy if there's a crash. It's pretty amazing. Ford has a decent video explaining how it works here: owner.ford.com/support/how-tos/safety/seat-belts/how-to-use-inflatable-rear-safety-belts.html. And a special thanks to eldreamer86 over on Reddit for the link.

Really just want something of the same size but MORE reliability with a few modern amenities. My husband and I just traded in my Fusion for a new car a few days ago, as much as I wanted to love this car it put me through so much garbage, just a few months after purchasing brand new off the lot, the AC blew at 6k miles, dealership had it for over a month fixing it. A few months ago it had the short block replaced from coolant intrusion at 36k miles....2 months back at the dealer for that repair. Oil light came on a week ago service dept said shouldnt have had happened since oil was just replaced, oil was barely registering on dip stick, of course no warranty left so I got rid of it. The only real issue with them is the EcoBoost 1.5 and its common coolant intrusion problem, which requires a brand new short block replacement, which you better hope happens while still under warranty (usually happens in the first 20k miles) lol. @@chekvb I dont like spending a lot of money on cars, I just sold my 2011 fusion (which I bought new in fall of 2010). I've realized after I had test drove a lot of cars, I was preferring the "premium" for lack of a better term, models of the more compact sedans than the base models of the cars a tier up for relatively the same price. I don't have to haul a lot of crap, or people for that matter, so having a bigger car really isn't necessary. That and I went certified pre owned instead of new. I ended up pulling the trigger on a 2016 civic touring 26k miles with all the bells and whistles for 10k less than a new one and when I asked if they had any veteran discounts, the finance guy threw in the 100k 10year extended bumper to bumper warranty for free . I was tempted to buy another fusion, but I just got way more bang for my buck with the touring. That and ford is killing their sedan lines, so I would have had to find a new brand eventually.

I agree with that. I bought a X3 Xdrive (AWD) and it has the same 2.0 size motor with a bit more power. But it actually gets the EPA 23 city and 30 mpg hwy. The ZF 8 speed transmission destroys anything that GM and Ford can come up with. The X3 is much more comfortable, taller, with more clearance and loads of space in back. The center stack and instrument cluster is functional, nice to look at and much easier to use. IMO, the X3 kills it. Especially in the last 2018 refresh. Probably the best SSUV on the market and can easily replace any sedan and provide allot more functionality. The Fusion's future is nearing end of life. Maybe they will make it another year. But its already done.

They aren’t the quickest simply because of their transmissions aren’t the best with changing gears. It’s a delay from 2-3 and will cause the ring of fire if you push to hard and don’t listen to the cars gears, Especially in sport. They are really safe and good on turns tho also comfy. I’m in a 19’ SE ecoboost and really want to upgrade to the v6 sport. Those things are insane for what it is and are definitely the sleepers and will beat the competition. I rent these on the regular as opposed to the Chrysler gas guzzling 300s, impala or toyo camry. Haven't touched the kias or Hyundai in rental car lots. In a 2020 fusion SE AWD at the moment. Averaging 19 mpg. Only thing i hate the most about the newer models is the "driver alert" system. I cruising along at 75 in Socal towards OC not to long ago and took my eyes off the road for a quick second to look at a building. The system went crazy and started to slow the car down by itself. I had no peddle control what so ever. Had to pull an emergency exit off the highway and the only way i regained control of the car was to shut it off, open the door for 5 minutes and then turn it back on again. Very scary and stupid system Ford has put into this car.

Who else with a 2019 fusion with the 2.0 ecoboost has to get their engine changed because of coolant leaking into the cylinders
I see its a common thing check it out on Google
I bought mine used with 34,700 miles and had it 2 weeks it ran fine when I got it than started making a noise
Sounded like a ac bearing because when I turned on the ac it would get louder

    Follow up comment.
My wife constantly complains about the car riding rough. She is the passenger. I never paid attention. Didn’t notice.
I have since learned that low profile tires are thinner and give a rougher ride. Tradeoff for good looks and superior handling.
My neighbor just traded in his Cadillac Escalade. Said he couldn’t stand the rough ride from the low profile tires,
If you need to switch car seats on a somewhat regular basis, don’t buy this car. Miserable experience.
