I bought my 2017 Fusion S and had a dealer perform a PPI. Alot of Ford dealers will wave the $107 if you have the vehicle immediately serviced with in 72 hours of buying the vehicle. Just ask the service manager

I bought the car from a private party. But I knew it was exactly what I wanted. I took it to a dealer that gave it an intense inspection. In front of both parties. It got a clean bill of health. I bought the car on the spot. Then I had the recommended factory service done there. That's how they waved the $107 inspection fee

I jam to my music everyday cruising at 70 averaging between 42-44 mpg. Eventually I’ll get my sports car, but this one looks like a luxury sedan 💪🏽

My family used to own one car with turbocharged engine (Skoda Yeti 1.4 TSI) and it was total crap, despite the fact it was brand new from the dealership. So this year we bought used 2016 Ford Fusion, 2.5 engine, SE version (but equipped almost as good as Titanium). Only 32 thousand kilometers, but of course like every car brought from America, it was after a little collision, but we only had to change few parts, front lights and modify rear lamps (add rear fog light and orange indicators). Despite those issues, that car is really nice. It consumes more fuel than Skoda or Ford Focus 1.6, but it's really nice and quite simple (normal engine and hydrokinetic automatic transmission) and I hope it won't be causing any big trouble in few next years.

The Fusions are great cars, Ford should keep making them especially the higher trim models. Biggest thing with them is that these cars are VERY high tech. You have to do the maintenance! Synthetic oil every 5k miles with OEM filter, Top Tier gasoline (90+ octane) for turbo models, New spark plugs every 40k-50k miles, change the PTU and transmission fluid/filter every 30k miles. If you aren't ready to do the maintenance don't buy it. If you aren't sure the previous owner did the maintenance don't buy it. My family has had multiple Fusions with no issues (4 in my immediate family in the last 6yrs)

Oil change every 5k miles? You're supposed to use synthetic blend and they recommend changing every 10k miles. Also, my manual says for best performance you can use 91, but 87 works well under most circumstances. I'm just curious, where are you getting your info from?

  • @ShersGarage
    @ShersGarage 5 років тому +33

You can find some early models with manual transmission. I've seen 2 high mileage Fusions. One had transmission replaced at 197k miles. Other one had close to that without issues.

    • @cribner
      @cribner Рік тому

You're right, but there was a pretty small window to get the manual; it was offered only for 2013 models (launch year) and only on 1.6L engines. Apart from that, they were pretty scarce. The Fusion is sold around the world as the Ford Mondeo, and in Europe manual transmissions are favored. They're still sold standard with the manual transmission on the Mondeo.

I bought a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid in April 2009. It was the inaugural year for the hybrid and only a few were being released at a time and Ford was keeping track of them to ensure a quality launch. I snagged one from one of the lucky dealers (not all dealers in my area got one). I got to the dealer early enough to be the first to drive it and when I got back from that drive, there were several people milling around the standard Fusion in the showroom. I began filling out paper work and someone came in wanting to test drive the hybrid which since I had begun the signing process was essentially mine. Obviously there was no negotiating. It’s April 2021 and I still have the vehicle with very few complaints save for a few minor repair items that I took care of myself. I found this video to be informative but have had no issues with any of the points highlighted. I did upgrade the tail and headlights to LED’s and bought an additional set of alloy wheels for dedicated snow tires. If I was in the market for another vehicle, I’d consider a later model Fusion. Mine is the original body design and the newer body designs in 2013, easily dates my model. If I knew someone who was looking for a low cost used car, say under $3000, I’d recommend a 2010-11 Fusion or Fusion Hybrid as long as the miles aren’t ridiculously high, a clean history, and evidence of attentive maintenance.

I have the 2013 Fusion SE with tech package. Love this car. The only draw back is the 2.5L engine. It just doesn't have very for much "get up and go" for passing. Don't get me wrong, this engine is solid and reliable. I cruse at 80 mph for long distances, no problems. It now has 116500 miles and all I have done was routine oil changes and tire rotations. The one problem I experienced was the shiftier got stuck and had to get it towed to ford. They replaced the shift cable for free. And I had been in 3 rear-end collisions within the first 6-months of owning it. All three times, I was struck from behind. The rear bumper is solid. It was repaired in the Ford Body shop and it looks good as new. I'm thinking about get another soon because 2020 is the last year they will be made. I think I will get a good used 2019 Fusion Titanium with the 2.0 turbo. The car is solid. And thank for the vid!

Very informative video! I bought my 2014 with 90k on it as a commuter car. I have to admit, I'm a FoMoCo guy. 2007 Focus with 265k on the odo and it runs harder than virtually any new car ever could with all its electronics. This Fusion has been amazing. As always with ANY used car, I swapped all fluids, got a tune up, and of course changed all filters. It's been great. I couldn't put my finger on why every time I would fill up the fuel tank the car would have an intermittent rough idle for a few miles after at every stop. You've most likely given me my culprit. Can't wait for my next service to get the PTU replaced! Genius!

I bought the new 2017 Fusion Platinum with AWD, self parking, and adaptable cruise control. No problems. MSRP was $41,500. I consider it a fantastic value for the price. A number of these had dead battery problems from a control module defect. Those unfortunate buyers are rightfully bitter, as it took Ford a long time to identify the problem. Ford has fixed that problem. Cars just wouldn’t start. Those may be lower mileage vehicles.
Disregard CR scores. Low scores in customer satisfaction relate to the standard underpowered Fusion with cloth seats. Low 2017 reliability scores due to the control module issue.
My car appears identical in all respects to the Lincoln MKZ select.
My advice. Great car to buy used. Pay extra for the Platinum model with AWD, self park, and adaptable cruise control options. I will keep mine forever.

The Ford Fusion transmission thing hasn't been a problem with this line of cars since 2016. This is one of those rumors about cars that haven't been true for years but people continue to perpetuate and while it's entirely reasonable to suggest someone could be buying a 2015 Fusion, they probably shouldn't, considering it takes 5 seconds to google "Ford Fusion transmission problems" to find out that '13, '14, '15, and '16 were all years that had high volume reporting of transmission problems.

The Fusion Energi is designed to be plugged in every night/as often as possible, to give you that 20ish miles of EV driving. You could easily be seeing 55-60+MPG if you plugged in more. When the EV range is depleted it just switches to regular hybrid mode and will only work with a small percentage of the total battery capacity. Meaning when you don’t plug this car in, it wastes more gas than a regular fusion hybrid bc the energi battery is much bigger and heavier. Not sure how much electricity is there, but the whole idea is to offset the purchase cost by plugging in, bc you bought the more expensive energi version of this car and not the the hybrid version.

Real world experience from my 13 1.6 EB 6 speed auto: I bought it at 36k and I put A LOT more miles on it in the 4.5 years I owned it. I kept up on maintenance as best as I could, performing all maintenance requirements a little earlier than recommended in the owners manual just to be safe. This included the transmission fluid. Despite my best efforts, the 6F35 transmission still suffered a complete failure and needed replacement. Otherwise it was a fantastic all-around FWD car. Up to 38 mpg cruising on long trips, it managed to power through northern Ohio snow every year and other bad weather, it always felt very comfortable, with a touch of a firm, sporty feeling, it handled and cornered great (I personally enjoyed Goodyear Eagle LS2s on it) and it proved to be more spacious and capable than exterior proportions seemed to imply. I traded it in for a 2017 2.7EB Sport AWD. My biggest issue I ever had with that car was the transmission. If you're looking at a low mileage (under 40k) used 1.6, I highly recommend it but you really, really gotta watch out for adverse signs in the transmission like weird noises, random hard shifts, and gear hunting, etc.

@@5.7_TY So far, not too bad. It could be a lot worse! I've got over 80k on it after using it for the last year and a half. Still used for work, and it spends a lot of time idling, but still is nice to open it up on the highway. The main things to watch out for are
      1) the CV Axles- they are a common failure point in the drive line because of the excess power the engine provides versus a standard Fusion. Ford gave it a heavier duty transmission, 6f55 I believe, that's held up well so far after a lot of hard miles with lots of stop and go driving, but we'll see how long that lasts. Anyway, the CV Axles seem to be a weak point for myself and many others. I had both of them replaced already under warranty last year, but it looks like they might need replaced again. I just dropped it off at the shop today for confirmation. Afterwards, since Ford warrantied the parts and labor 2 years/unlimited mileage, I should be able to get that taken care of. Big thing to look out for, in a Fusion Sport at least.
      2) Coolant consumption- early 2017 models (build date 12/16 and earlier, I believe) have a coolant consumption issue. I don't know the details exactly. Mine is an early build 2017, but I haven't had any major issues so far. My coolant dropped off last year for no known reason. I took it to the dealer, they topped it off, ran tests, but couldn't tell me what happened. Never had the issue again. Idk how much I trust that dealer, though, since they kept trying to disable the dashcam I have installed, but that's another topic of discussion. I don't think the problem was limited to Fusions, though. Do your research, and if you buy any Ford or Lincoln with the 2.7, keep it in mind.
      3) Brake hoses- another common failure point on many modern Fords. Both Fusions I've owned had the issue where the hoses near the front calipers burst inexplicably. That's the very first thing I would replace after buying one. All I'm gonna say about that is that I was lucky they didn't pop when I was driving down the road.
      4) PTU/RDUs- they seem pretty weak in the winter. The traction control interferes way too much, and if you turn it off, the computer will disable AWD for a while to "protect against overheating". I can only get like 5 minutes before that happens and then I'm stuck with 2wd until the car decides to turn AWD on again. I can still get around, and eventually it comes back on, but it's super annoying having such a seemingly weak AWD system because part of the point of having AWD is to be to handle adverse weather. I've stuck with the factory Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric All-Seasons, so a better tire would probably be beneficial, but it's disappointing that it came this way from the factory. A lot of Sport owners change those fluids immediately. There should be plenty of info on forums about it.
The CV Axles are the biggest issue I've had with the car so far, and they can be pretty expensive without the warranty, but other than that it's held up fairly well. I do have to keep in mind how heavily I use mine.
For 2018, the F-150's 2.7 EB got direct and port injection, instead of just direct injection, but I don't know if Ford made those changes to the Fusion or Edge. I do know that the Edge Sport was restricted on power (315hp/340-350 torque versus the Fusion's 325/380), it's heavier and not quite as fun, but it seems like an OK way to go. Just make sure to do your research on them, of course.
In my opinion, Lightning Blue is the way to go for the Fusion's color. The Edge Sport was available in Orange, which I think it pretty cool. If you don't want to deal with the Sport, but still want a Fusion, I recommend going for a 2013-2014 1.6 EB with the 6-speed manual. Some 1.6's have issues, but I had a great experience with mine. Anyway, there's already plenty of info about it online. The main headache you'll be saving yourself from is the transmission. The 6f35 automatic is terrible. The manuals are hard to find as they were only available in 2013 and part of 2014, ONLY with the 1.6, but they're out there and they're fun to drive in their own right.
      Hopefully all this info helps.

That mention of the PTU hits home. I've got a 2010 Fusion SEL AWD, and it's a huge problem there too. It's by everything hot and has no airflow. Holds 12oz of fluid. Mine completely failed at 98,000 miles and I had a FWD only car until I brought it to a dealer a few months later (lost my job and didn't know how much they would charge. It's not a small job.) My car was in for a week, the mechanic said it was just black, and the teeth on the gears inside went through a grinder. Ford's recommended fix is a complete replacement. Had I not been covered under a powertrain warranty, this would have cost me $2195. It's a PITA to do, but the fluid should be changed every 40k miles, tops. I do mine each transmission fluid swap.

Yes, for sure, absolutely check the transmission! These Fusions (2013-present)have a failed 2 clutch dry system design transmission and Ford will deny it and tell you they cannot duplicate the issue. Yes, there will be no codes and also there will be no code stored. And that is a scapegoat they will use. They will claim their Ford techs talked to Ford engineers in trying to find your problem, but they really cannot fix anything. It will start shifting sloppy and they will say it's "learning your shift pattern". Mind you, you may have owned the car from day one, why would it be learning now? It's because they know there's a problem and they're just passing you off. I even have extended warranty in a still treat me badly. They actually claimed they found metal shavings in my transmission, and did change the entire transmission. Sure enough, the transmission still shifted exactly the same way as when I took it in. They just charge Ford fraudulently to make a claim and pay for their work and put a transmission in your car. What basically happens, is the control module for the transmission picks up on this dry shifting transmission and it goes haywire. The transmission is basically operating correctly as they will state to you, it's working at a 100%. That the only true statement they actually tell you. But they will refused to change your module, and they state that they "reset it", which really doesn't doing thing. So I continue to drive my car with the harsh slamming sloppy shifting. It doesn't affect gas mileage, but I don't know the affects long term. My car started doing this at about a 110000 miles, but I drive many miles in a very short amount of time. Cars have been reported to started about 60000 miles. My extended warranty was up to 125000 miles, full factory warranty from Ford which I never used otherwise until this transmission problem which was never fixed...

I always love the people that complain about their vehicles while simultaneously going over 2/3,000 miles over oil change never changing transmission fluid and just not taking care of their cars I have a car people say is bad and I take RELIGIOUS care of it and never had a major issue and I’ve put on over 70,000 miles TAKE CARE OF YOUR VEHICLE

I always wish they had made one of these into a power sports sedan with a 3.6 ecoboost and some mustang parts.

Bought my 2011 Monday. So I read the reviews today.
My tip is to reset the time or turn on the radio, turn the engine on
My current quest is to reset the radio presets. Two country and one religious station. Rest static
My key fob has the four expected buttons. But what does “2x” on the trunk release mean ?

I have a 2014 hybrid Fusion with 184,000 miles. Never changed trans fluid. Ford Dealer said not to. Best car I ever owned. Only $1500 in repairs.

I just bought the 2015 titanium at 46k with the orignal tires. What brand of tires would you recommend with the 19 in. rims for longest life?

    • @snowsolo

Yea the continentels that come on the car with the 19 inch wheel suck. I just put some Toyos all season on our 2016 fusion 2.0 titanium with 19 inch wheel and it drives much better. Still a tad road noise but much better ride and tracks better down the road.

I know a lot of people do oil change and transmission fluid much earlier than owners manual recommends but got this 2016 Focus SE 108 K miles and just recently ( three weeks) just got this 2015 Fusion SE with 108 K miles. I haven’t gotten to change transmission fluid in either one. I usually do it to the recommended mileage

I am 78 y.o. and have owned a lot of cars. The Fusion is by FAR, the worst p.o.s I have ever owned. I am second owner. 43,000 miles and I had to spend $2300 US to replace the whole steering rack and fix the power window. I kick myself. I could have bought the Corolla also low mi, for a g note more
