I am Indonesian, been working in Europe for 16 years. Honestly, It's "weird" in here, it's kinda boring, no smiley people, negative thinkings, complaining all the time. They have everything but they seem unhappy. I am scared of them 😂😂😂😂 16 years and I am still questioning why. It needs strength for Indonesian to live in Europe, mentally. I am staying because of the benefits of working here which is waaaaay better than in Indonesia. Well, there is no perfect place on earth. Important to respect the place we live in, take only the positives things and learn from it. Never forget your culture, different is good. I MISS INDONESIA, every bit of me!! My body is in Europe, my soul is in Indonesia.
@@shinomdc291 Say whattt.... Being a genius has no relation whether one loves to smile or not.. gosh..what the heck. Smile related to happiness, joy and being grateful. I lived in Singapore for 10 years, then 4 years now in Germany. When I was living in Singapore, I often went back to do a voluntary program "Indonesia Mengajar", in Jember, Toba Samosir, Natuna, Raja Ampat, etc. You know moments that I love the most are the human interactions (school kids/other volunteers) and the quiet times in the afternoon by the sea side/lake side/paddy field side. Enjoying the moment when you know you work hard for the day and it is time to rest. What is not to love in Indonesia when in the morning you open your window, you could see either the majestic mountain or the huge and wide ocean. You go to the market, and you see 1001 options of fishes from sea or from lake (ikan segar yg blom lewat tahap frozen), cheap exotic fruits and vegetables. Just go to any supermarket in Europe and you will see how limited the options for fishes/seafood/fruits/vegetables are (esp in winter). Not to mention how expensive they are. When I look and compare...the western society and Indonesians... As the poster above said... Western people tend to smile a lot less...because sometimes it is cold outside 0°C, and people just want to go back home avoiding the cold. And western society relies A LOT on the government. Any issues, they want the government to solve it, as if it is not their issue in the first place. Meanwhile in Indonesia, we all realize that you sometimes cannot rely on the government, but you can rely on your family and neighbour. It is the old and the most basic social safety net before the government exists. Even my housemates felt surprised when I told them that when I was in school in Indonesia if one lost parents, then the whole school would unite, collect money, go to the funeral and give the money to the family. And when there is a disaster in one area, it doesn't matter whether it's schools/campuses/offices/mosques/churches/house complexes, we all would scramble to donate whatever we can to help. We rely less on the government's relief. This is what I rarely see in western society and it is what makes them seem so "cold/selfish".
Yeahhh... The western society is not like eastern society .. When im living korea, the travel in korea, and china is not as selfish like in Western countries like USA, EU, AUS which are the Selfish since the 18th century or older they was same as "Cold and Selfish" @phoenixxena8194
I once read a report that more than 90% of Indonesians who work abroad prefer to return to their homeland once their job is finished. This is interesting because unlike Filipinos, Indians, or Pakistanis who see their new country as permanent home, Indonesians see it as temporary working place. So not only Indonesian women but also Indonesian men.
There are reasons for that... Me as an Indonesia once working in Malaysia, eventhough it's not western country and still in South East Asia and more developed one, I still prefer my country. Because our people are the most kind and chill people you will ever meet, smile more and less stress, food and living cost are cheaper than any other countries. Basically it's a paradise on Earth.
what are you talking about? More and more Filipinos are starting to retire early and going back ti the Philippines, dude! And many more are planning to in the few more years to come. oh gosh..People with their lies and assumptions...
I am Japanese and working with Indonesians here in Tokyo. When I asked them if they wanted to take Japanese citizenship ( I was joking only ) they said they didn't want because they said, no place better for them than their own home countries. They only worked in japan for money. Their answers silenced me.
When I was studying in Japan, I met a 50 years old Indonesian woman who married a japanese, have three kids, and been living there for years almost 30 years, but she still keeping her Indonesian citizen, and she said that she prefer returning to Indonesia one day
Very sad 😭 stories 😭 I already know that feeling. 50 years didn't meet her family was so sad 😭. And the most important thing was meet our parents when they getting older 😭
You're right on this issue; many Americans are also keeping their US passport because of the Social Security benefits. It is not special to keep their citizenship for the old days in the country of their birth.
As Indonesian women, I'm okay to go abroad for study, visiting foreign countries as tourist, following my husband if he wants to live or study abroad. But still, I couldn't even able to hide my tears flowing when I heard the song 'Tanah Airku' by Ibu Sud. Indonesia is not perfect, but I'm grateful and thankful to God for my homeland.
OMG !!! I knew it. SAME. I knew that im not the only one :,) 13 years living in Japan, finnally im back! Happier than ever! Indonesia is so warm, outside and inside!
All Indonesian born with strong family oriented, so they will do anything to stick together with their family. Even tho they're living overseas, they will keep contact with their family. Somehow you will see Indonesian going to tears once they talk with their parents to express their missing them so badly.
Indonesia getting less brain drain compare to other asian country like India, bangladesh, filipines and other but we are less knowing in the world because our talent is neither usefull or uselles in our own country
I am Turkish and my wife is from Indonesia. We started to live in Indonesia after had lived in Turkey for 6 years. This is dream to live for Western guys cause you are special in here. I am really happy husband cause Indonesian woman so stick for her family . I believe my daughter will have good attitudes too.
you just lucky cus western ideology already enter indonesia too, so maybe western thing will be inject indonesia especially woman perspective soon or later
Not only Indonesian women, Indonesian men will also stick for their family. There will be no story about a father who goes to buy milk and doesn't come back. But domestic abuse and cheating (both men and women) is rising, that's why divorce rate by women is rising in Indonesia tho.
My mother is Arab Indonesian, her parents were immigrants from Yemen who obtained Indonesian citizenship before she was born. She was born and raised in Jakarta, and later married my father (he is Saudi), but refused to change her nationality and still kept her Indonesian citizenship until she died…which is baffling, you’d think that she’d be eager to take on the nationality for ethnic reasons, since she’s an Arab herself, but having being born and raised in Indonesia, she sees herself as more Indonesian than Middle Eastern and we were always vacationing in Jakarta every year when she was alive. I still visit Jakarta every few years, the food there is amazing and people are so friendly and welcoming.
I'm sorry for your lost, kaka. May God bless your beloved mother. Once you have our blood, forever you are us. Your family is welcome anytime to visit Indonesia.
As an Indonesian who has been living in the US for over two decades, I am yearning to come back to Indonesia for good one day. As much as I enjoy living any working in another country, I feel isolated and lonely sometimes. How I can’t not ? I could walked miles in our neighborhood but we don’t talk to each other. Once I tried to make friends with them by making small appetizers and shared with them. They responded with thank yous then shut their doors. The next day, we back to our routine as usual. Nodded our heads as greeting but that’s it. 😂 No one visited you when you sick let alone bringing you food. 😂 you have no social life except working in order to pay the bills.
Even though Indonesian people are not as prosperous as western countries, in general we really love our country and our families more than anything. It is very rare for Indonesians to think about moving abroad or changing citizenship unless they have to. We go abroad just to work and come back without thinking about it. to stay forever
@@zizodbestmarriage is best with the same local nationality than different nationality most of the times. Different upbringing very hard to communicate smoothly sometimes
i admire that my country is the opposite most people romantizise living abroad and copy each other once few people migrate many will copy that and start moving abroad
I'm Indonesian, married to an American, and have been living in the US for 5 years. I have the chance to naturalize after living in the US for 3 years, but I don't want to. I still want to keep my Indonesian citizenship. I also work at Microsoft here to earn money for vacations in Indonesia with my family and to buy a house in Indonesia for retirement. There’s no better live except living in Indonesia, my own land.
I was living in singapore for 9 years, and moved to Switzerland and live there for 4 years, both are for work. During that 4 years in Switzerland i travel around Europe. And now im in Indonesia taking care of my elderly mother. start from zero and still single and not that ugly😅 Indonesia is my first and forever love❤️❤❤ Thank you and great video🙏
no indonesian people will listening a song called "tanah airku" without shed a tears when they are abroad.. me crying all the time, although im a man who born and raised in remote place around central borneo.. that's why ive only spend 3 years in netherlands, then just packed my bag and starting my own business back in my hometown..
We have a phrase, " it doesn't matter how good your life in foreign country, it always better in your own home country." That is what I believe and experience. I have lived in the UK for almost 23 years. Missing my family, Indonesian foods, Indonesian tradition, Indonesian way of life (maid, driver, gardener). I'm proudly keep my Indonesian citizenship.
Indonesian is different than Pinay or Thai for sure. Even the migrant workers or International students they're willing to go home after everything has done and starting to build their country. So thats why Indo migrants in the western world is so very small number if you have compared to other Asian migrants like from China, India, Phillipines, Thailand etc Ps: In The NL itself there is plenty of Indo community and they arrived from mutual colonial era time, but in the rest of Schengen, Indo community is tiny considering its the 4th biggest population on earth.
My family (Indonesian) lived in the US when I was young because my mother was doing her studies.. We had the opportunity to change our citizenship. But my parents were always against that and planned to go back to Indonesia ASAP. I never really knew what their reasons were . But I'm now forever grateful, especially living in places that aren't too "modern"... Not sure how to describe why. All the extravagant bright stuff just seem boring after a time? I wasn't even born in Indoensia, and I have lived and studied abroad but Indonesia is my home and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
because your parents doctrinized you when you were kid like this: indonesia is the best indonesia is the best indonesia is the best 😂😂 kidding. it because you love your parents so you then love what they love the most. it's natural. and when you grown up you are realize that you are from the country that your parents told you about when you see yourself phisically different to other people around you. i met a few of them from Germany. it's so much easier for them to connect with their Indonesia siblings. a warm culture
I think Indonesian health system is much improved now.....just a week ago my mother in law was brought to ICU and admitted to hospital for a week due to onset of heart attack. Apart from the small amount of monthly BPJS payment, it's a free treatment. Good service in state hospital too and she stabilized quickly.
Dulu ktika alm suami masih hidup sy selalu mengunakan asuransi swasta . Stlah ga ada suami sy mengunakan BPJS . Because in Indonesia, even though life gets harder, it always feels at ease, especially if your parents are still alive. They will help you no matter what. Genuine siblings and friends are always missed when overseas, too!
I am Indonesian woman, have been living in West Europe for 15 years. I feel so happy here with my family and I also have a nice job but when I retire later, I want to live in Indonesia. Here is very nice in terms of facilities etc but looks so lonely when you are old, that is my reason why I want to go back to Indonesia.
As an Indonesian woman who lives in europe for 2 years, I am grateful for the opportunity but there is always a void in my heart. The feeling of belonging to my home that I can't fill anywhere else. Being close to my family is such an important factor for me, and I'm striving to go back to Indonesia soon definitely.
and who wanna pay that expensive lot of soil for you to be buried with no one visit your grave in foreign soil. That’s why some prefer cremated and send back their ashes to their home country, closer to family and relatives.
Unlike Filipino, Indonesian in general love being in their country. Educated people are pretty much Still can find decent job. Indonesia has so much opportunities especially if we want to do business. I am personally prefer live in Indonesia especially I work as a freelancer. I have the ability to live and work abroad, but after doing some Europe trips for 3 months in total, I believe that living in Indonesia is much easier, affordable, livable and overall better in my opinion.
I used to study in Canada for three years. In the last year of my study I got married in Indonesia and brought my wife to Canada. She would tell me that living abroad is good only for short time. For long time, she preferred to live in Indonesia.
Indonesia It is the 4th largest country in the world by population. But is the only country that does not migrate.Make Australia And New Zealand never have an immigrant crisis 😂. You know the reason why: We consider going to another country to earn money but. Not looking for an opportunity to live a better life. Because other countries don't offer Way of life like = a slow living. Rubber Time . Summer every day.
True...even in Australia....Indonesian community is insignificant and small....compared to vietnamese, chinese, philippines and indians. Indonesians have romantic feelings towards their homeland.
The weather is a nice touch in way of life. Here we got summer every day. Used to live in Norway for a year. The winter make me depressed. Cold, no sunlight and you can't get out of your home just to take a walk. It's all grey and black during the winter
sama. aku sering bertegur sapa dan tersenyum bila berpapasan dengan org² di lingkunganku meski tidak mengenal mrk dgn baik. ga ke bayang klo tgl di negara² individualis😅
Talking about wealthy let me explain us as Indonesian no matter how poor we still own houses and rice fields and we still grow fruits around the house we only pay for electricity bills and cheap taxes for our motorcycles. We don’t like processed food or frozen food that most of westerners eat we love fresh food and our society are much friendlier and we take care to each other that’s all. I’ve been working as a nanny for western families still not get me interested to have western life style.
😂 My parents didn't even pay the tax for one of their motorcycles. It was already due for 4 years. After retirement, they moved back to our village and started farming just to spend time. They told me... it's 1.5 hours to the closest city (Pematang Siantar), and there is no police patrol...we also rarely go to the city. We have a once-a-week market 20 mins walking from our home. So basically..the motorcycle will not be caught by the police. If we really have to go to the city, we will use the other one, the one which tax we pay regularly. And my parents have durian, avocado, soursop, banana trees all around their field. They also raise free-range chickens and have a small pool for Lele fish at the back of the house. I'd say... they're living the life...😎
My mother long ago never want me to have western guy to be husband, cause she afraid I got foolish and dumped,it's kind of old thought but i respect my mom
When I applied for US tourist visa, I got it without even showing my bank account because of 1 answer. The officer said " with your awards and experiences you could easily get a job in the US and not return to Indonesia. He was the most strict officer at that tine from what I observed during almost 1 hour I was there. So I said ya sure I knew it, but that's also the reason why I would rather open my own business here and help fellow Indonesians rather than working in the US. I also asked him something which made him saying yes indonesians are nicer than people from other country where I studied at ( when he saw I graduated from a univ abroad). He finally said he agreed with everything I said about Indonesia and why I prefer to stay here. Indonesia is not perfect, some peeple are nice, some are bad. But to be honest, what I missd the most about indonesia when I stayed or went abroad, is the nice strangers I could talk to on the bus, in traditional market, on the street. Also our foods especially as I am a minang (if you ever heard about rendangl, it's our traditional food).
@@SuryaSurya-re3vnsurely not😂. I will never ever exchange my Indonesian nationality. Agree with your point of view. As an Indonesian woman with high degree (I'm a surgeon) and income. My family is the most important things in my life. I'll do anything for them.
My grandpa is from german, he come to indonesia as foreign investor in late 60s, marrying to local, firstly they move to the husband's in western geman, his wife convinced him to born their first son in indonesia, since then to this day we live in west java as big family, he love being here and never back to germany since then
BPJS and Warteg yang bisa diutangin make Indonesia more special. Free food from Parents, Aunty or Free fruit from Neighbor's trees also make Indonesia more Unforgettable. 😂😄 Why would We leave the country that only have Spring Summer season like Indonesia anyway
well after years study and working abroad It cannot be denied that living in Indonesia has a much better quality in terms of mental and happiness as well as security and spirituality. You can directly feel the warmth around you, maybe that's what we miss. Even in rich countries, many people really struggle with their daily lives because life here is so much harder and you can't relax. Many people feel anxious, depressed and lonely about their lives even though they already have good jobs. The only motivation for working abroad is a good income to save so that we can have a comfortable life when we return home. Appreciate and be grateful wherever you are but don't forget where you come from, don't forget your history because that is your valuable identity.
Yes this doesn't apply to everyone, but in general most Indonesian men and women prefer to spend the rest of their lives in Indonesia regardless how many years they have lived abroad for work or personal reasons. I was one of them. There is something about our country that always attracts us back home. Some people say it's the convenience of having domestic helpers, baby sitters, drivers etc. Could be. But for me, it wasn't any of them. I just feel more alive here.
I lived in Singapore for 10 years, then moved to Germany for 4 years, currently on a break to decide whether I'm going to stay or back to Indonesia. One thing I notice in western country, they have rules for EVERYTHING. This is very good to prevent corruption/bribery. But this makes the society and interactions between its members kind of lost its humanity, friendliness and tolerance. For exp: once, my parents had to use public transportation and politely asked the driver for help if he could just take them back directly to our house, otherwise they would need to walk for 20 mins (by car, it's only 5 mins), since it was raining and my parents are quite old, the driver agreed and the other passengers also understood. My parents also added a bit more money as transport fee. This will NEVER happen in Germany or Singapore. 😅 And also, marriage is the union of 2 families. Even in my tribe, Batak tribe, wedding celebrations are considered as the parent's affair (only the celebrations not the bride/groom option). It is still the parents responsibility to pay for the wedding and sending out invitations. Cause the parents know who their relatives are (according to traditions). This is why lots of Batak couples visit weddings of other families (if invited), cause one day they will also have wedding celebration and they would want people to come.
I studied and stayed in SG 14 years. Went back Indonesia eventually.
I love western cultures especially europe with its grand and beautiful historical buildings, literature, classical music, beautiful fall and sceneries. Even though my daughters prefer to live and work outside Indonesia but I love my country Indonesia very2 much and would die here. Life is warm and relaxing, you dont feel lonely as people are warm and friendly especially in the villages or small cities.
I married with expat man for 14 years until now, I’m not interested go to his country, I love my country, indonesia. My husband in his country, I tell him , he can come here anytime he want, I’m no problem with LDR. And I married him not because money, I married him when he in bancrupt situation. He have good attitute and very respect my parents, that’s the point plus of him.
I told my American bf, after we got married, I need to move there to be with you, then we will work hard to make money then we will move back to Indonesia for retire. I said I don't wanna retired in America and he agreed. I said, we can have a comfortably and relaxing life in indonesia 😊
Indonesia is a great place with lovely, lively, open and warm people. Also, amazing food, culture, loveable language etc. I never met any wealthy Indonesian - and they do exist in plenty - who would even consider moving away. People only move for better economic prospects, and you can't blame anyone for this. Who wouldn't take the chance to get a better economic future? But of course they'll still miss their home country. It's just so insanely different. Especially in the West it's so easy to feel alone if you're from an Eastern culture. It's the same for most all Eastern cultures. I've met elderly Indian immigrant women in the US who only migrated to be there for their children - to help out with childcare and to be close to their children and grandchildren - but who feel terribly terribly bored and terribly terribly alone. They miss the chats with the neighbors, the gossip, the bargaining and banter at the market, the lively festival, the weddings, the way it's easy to talk and make a connection human to human. That's a thing that strikes me as a biggest difference. I don't want to say Westerners are 'cold' - I'm a Westerner myself btw. - but when talking to Westerners there is such a long initial phase that is just a distanced politeness, while in the East you address people as aunty, uncle, son, daughter, and straight away you can address them on an emotional level. The connection between people is just different. It feels less isolated.
This is so true. I can literally met stranger for the 1st time and I would tell her my biggest life problem and none of it would feel weird or strange for us. The stranger would often give me advice and sometimes tell me their problem too like we've known each other for years 😭 When I was abroad I cant seem to express this extrovert part of me 😭
Indonesian is very family oriented. And has tight bond to the homeland. For average Indonesian working abroad, getting $$$ to retire and live a comfortable life back home is a dream come true.
I am Indonesian , my fiance is Australian. We are getting married in the next couple months. Our plan is after married l will live in lndonesia and he will move in when he retired . So we will just see eacth other every two or 3 months. I have been travelling to many countries and that how l found that lndonesia still the best place to live. I also feel living in the lndonesia would make me to contribute more to my community. I dont have a strong family as other lndonesian girls, except some cats as my family. I think living in lndonesia will be better option for us ❤
Living in sweden for 7 years now and counting, people here are nice and friendly, still experiencing culture shock even now, but the thing with living abroad is that you need to embrace the differences, whether it’s culture, people, weather, food, walfare, etc. You need to accept that you can’t have everything, every country has pros and cons. I miss Indonesia, I miss the family, friends, food, gojek, even Jakarta’s traffic but that is okay, I can still go back for vacation annually
You are right. The keyword is "embracing". Some people are able, some people are not. Either way, hopefully they make informed decisions based on their experiences.
In the end, self-control is the key for Indonesians to survive, not because of negative stigmas, gratitude which does not exist in western culture. excessive obsession, and also greed (always dissatisfied) will only bring a person into nothingness
If you are a foreigner looking for Indonesian wife or any other SEA countries, you MUST look outside the tourism industry. They are 'uncontaminated' with Western prejudice. If you are not a family oriented man, then don't look for a family oriented woman. If you meet your future wife in a club, a massage parlor, or if she is a guide or an escort with "extra service", what do you expect from them?
It not right for everything & every case & everyone!! My sister best friend is working in bars & restaurants sometimes. She’s Hardworking lady & faithful women . She’s working her ass off more than alots women you think “countryside oriented women”. When she was young, she have married & 2 kids, she’s sold clothes in local wet market as she have small clothes shop for over 10y. Then when mall & online shopping is cheaper & more available, her small bussiness is doom. She’s working in small private company (candy & jams) for couple years And fews years ago, she’s working in bars (foreigners & tourist) for 6y In covid bars is lost money & fails, it closes She running small street food vendor & juice. She’s working in 9AM till 11PM (in mid night) After 2y it going good, then rent shop is getting raise price she cant afford. Now she’s working in restaurants & beers clubs. SHES HARDWORKING LADY & FAMILY VALUES LADY NORE THAN ALOT WOMEN OUT THERE!! Not all ppl working in tourist spots or bars is bad. It’s all about personally & mindset (get raise right in good family with values & their attitude in life)
@HauTran-sunfromsouth Yep! What about all the people who are working in the hotel sector? This is tourism too! Are they all bad people? No! I should know because I have been working in the international hospitality industry (tourism) for 31 years.
@@MinimalistNomad I've never said that everyone working in the tourism industry is bad. You've said that some of you got taken advantages by Asian wife, that they don't marry you out of love, etc. Only people in tourism industry know 'how to deal' with foreigner, especially those work in 'pleasure' sector. Of course some of them will have bad thought to take advantage of foreigner. So many foreigner married an escort lady, local people knew they have a bigger change to marry American/European by working as an escort lady. Those who looking to take advantages of foreigner will pick these job too. Now why would you pick from a batch with high risk?
@@HauTran-sunfromsouth Spot on! See human as human! You sometimes could be wrong in judging some people, but for more serious relationships, definitely need more time to know each other until you are very sure that she/he is the right one for you. And it happened everywhere in the world, not only in Indonesia! Good and bad people can be found either in a bar, or in a mosque/church.
@@HauTran-sunfromsouth you can yap all you want but still i prefer rural area or other woman that stay outside the bar, spa, etc. Its just pattern recognition, yes not all people that go into something like that is bad or unfaithful. Nonthenless I still prefer trad woman/religious woman. All you said just anecdote, I ve seen cases that pretty much have an opposite outcome contradict to your experience.
Indonesian ppl are born in socializing community, the relationship just like spider web, an individual to the family, the family tothe relatives, the relatives to the neighborhood, then to the villages, cities, and then to the country the bond get tighter when they are far away, most of them want to get back to the place where the old memories stay, most Indonesian ppl love making gathering groups everywhere, they are craving to get stick together😅
At first glance before I heard you speak I thought you were Sam Rockwell 😂. I'm an American married to an Indonesian wife and retired last year. Solo Indonesia is our life. We're happy and healthy 😊
Oh absolutely. I'm Malaysian, married to a German, and do not want to stay in Germany. I do not covet its citizenship. It's not about family, either. It's just that I love my modern city, Kuala Lumpur, better than any German city. Most women from Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia do not want to leave their country, unlike women from less affluent Asian nations.
I married Swedish and live here in northern Sweden more than 8years.I have one daughter and my hubby passed away in 2020.Well i missed home,i missed Indonesia and don't want to change my passport. I'm Indonesian who are married to British, but I'm not moving to England, my husband lived here for 9 years and as he get better work offer in England now currently he lives in England, meanwhile My daughter and I, we live in Indonesia, why because I have my own work and business here, and we believe that in the future Indonesia will be a better choice to live. My husband and I we visit each other every few months... btw I'm not marrying my huabqnd for his money or because he is European, I have my own money and I'm very proud being Indonesian, so yeah I màrry him because I love him. Not all Indonesian woman marry foreigner to move abroad and to enjoy their husband's wealth, I believe there still some dignity in some Indonesian woman 😊
Agree with all your points. As much as we can easily be dismissive of the chaos in Indonesia, we cannot forget that Indonesia is their home that they love. A woman's power comes from her social links, and over in the west she loses this. Not everything is better in the west either. For example, a working woman in Indonesia is able to afford a maid to do the housework, but if you marry and pull them back to the west, you can't get one and then as an educated Indonesian, they may resent becoming a maid.
@@MinimalistNomad What's more, these are all good arguments to use to dissuade Indonesian women from wanting to marry you if you have no intention of ever doing it.
No it’s because of all these fucking corporations and artificial food with little to no nature nor agriculture in western countries that’s why.And yall talking bout the chaos in Indonesia what chaos have u seen my home country USA lately or how about Canada, the u.k chaos in Indonesia besides the digital no mass running around with a chicken without a head trying to get laid 🤔🤣🤣.Thats not nothing compared to the shit western countries are in I mean are yall living under see a rock or what.
I’m a 63 year old Indonesian emak who’s been living in Australia for 40 years. I still keep my Indonesian citizenship, cry every time I hear Tanah Airku, still speak 3 different ethnic languages fluently and still dreaming of living in Indonesia one day. I visit my family back in Indonesia at least once a year and have a group chat with my siblings and all my cousins. The only thing that keeps me here is my children and grandchildren, I don’t want to leave them because I know how hard it is to be so far away from my family.
I’m indonesian and married to UK citizen, but i make sure before we married that I don’t want to live abroad or change my citizenship. And my beloved husband happily agree with that.
It’s all about “acceptance” and “gratitude”…Indonesian was raise to be grateful (bersyukur) with strong family bond…. It is “priceless” the bond with the land and family are strong
My wife is Dutch , she's actually the one who convinced me to moved back to Indonesia. Now she's full legit Emak-Emak . proof ?? 1. Wearing Daster 2. Sandal homing missile 3. Perfect Asian Squat 4. I am married US army vet and been living here for years but planning to go back home when I reach my retirement age and will never give up my indonesian citizenship, although if I want it's very easy for me to become US citizen.
Try listening to the Indonesian song entitled "rumah kita sendiri / Our Own House" and understand the meaning, that is the motto that is embedded in the hearts and mindset of Indonesian people, when you go far away and are successful, all you have to do is return to Indonesia to help build Indonesia to be better, Indonesian people also have the principle that no matter how bad your country is, you are still Indonesian, born there, So whatever the condition of your country and no matter how successful you are, you have the same responsibility to help build Indonesia to be better, regardless of which field you master, unlike most other Southeast Asian people, when you are successful they will move and settle in the country where they are success
There is a sentence in the Indonesian national song which says "Even though I have lived in many countries which people say are famous for being beautiful, my village and my home are where I feel calm". Maybe that could be an illustration of the number of Indonesians who return to their country after working abroad
I'm an Indonesian who has never lived abroad but has quite a lot of experience living in Japan. Even though it wasn't a long stay and I really admired the country, there wasn't the slightest desire to move. For me, as a Muslim living in Indonesia is the best because I have privileges here and another thing that makes me unable to leave Indonesia is THE FOOD, lmao.
😂 ah. My sister married a viking, from the value of money perspective, comparing between norway and indo--- my family is wealthier than her husband. We also have more assets (houses/land). My sister just an adventurous woman she just loves travel, having european man fits her. She works as photographer too . Then abt converting to another citizenship... 😂😂 no she doesn't want to. She told me dreamed of belanja sayur di pasar bc of norway was very poor of food variety😂. she persuade her husband to travel every year to indo bc of her homesickness 😂😂. They plan to retire here, ahe even complained that even our health care system is better than in her husband hometown.
@@rizkyadiyanto7922 I think he's refering to very low-cost BPJS-type healthcare system which doesn't exist in many western countries as it is often considered as "non-capitalism" involving cross subsidy. But I thought Scandinavian countries like Norway have good hc system paid by the tax payers.
@@rizkyadiyanto7922 setauku ya, disana kalo pake asuransi pemerintah, masa tunggunya lama, mau ketemu dokter spesialis aja bisa berbulan bulan baru bisa ketemu. Kalo mau cepat, ya pake uang sendiri.
I believe she was referring to the waiting periods for services, as in Norway, we are unable to directly walk in for treatment. instead, we must schedule an appointment and wait one or two months for treatment. The appointment cannot take place on the same day or within the same month. In this case, Indonesia's health care is better.
Yes, same like me.... I'm Indonesian guy who work abroad for years.... in Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia.. It's not easy for me to work far away from my wife & kid. And now I back to Indonesia. Happy to see my families & relatives.
As Indonesian girl who's been living in Europe for 5 years ++ I also plan to have retirement in Indonesia just like majority of my fellow Indonesians. Because in Indonesia they have more variety of food in cheap prices. And if I want healthy food, cost of vegetables and fruits are much better in Indonesia. Many friends and better atmosphere. And of course my family is there. My family is not perfect, one of the reason I go abroad is because of my family conflict but at the end of the day I would like to be able to help them and close with them when they need help.
You know what … we are indonesian born with strong bond to the family. I work abroad as a freelancer, some people refuse me to bring my sister and I prefer stop to come and I choose my sister. Because what I think is job come and go, but family always stick together. That’s it. 😅
Think bout it. Indonesia is the 4th populous country in the world, but we got so few people abroad. Unlike india and china😂 we just love to stay in Indonesia
I'm married to a Portuguese man. It's just been nearly a year living in Portugal and I've been thinking to go back to Indonesia for good multiple times. Even my husband said he wants to live in Indonesia asap. 😂
Never underestimate how Indonesian in general view family ties. In Indonesia, marriage is widely viewed as a union between two families, not just between two people, trust me there are a lot of cases where they cancelled a marriage just because a groom/bride's family member, offended one of their spouse's family member. So a little addition for foreigners who wish to marry an Indonesian is to also keep your own family in line too, and never ever underestimate family gatherings between yours and your Indonesian love interest's, this generally goes for both Indonesian men and women
This is an interesting topic. Like i myself also have a though if one day i married to a foreigner, i don't want to move from Indonesia, but i never though more deeply about it "why?" and when i watched your video, it does makes me realized that indeed i saw many indonesian woman that married to foreigner actually ended up still living in Indonesiawith all their kids.
My parents migrated to the US from Indonesia and they are became US citizens. I grew up in the US even finished college and worked there. I met my husband in the US and he is Indonesian and in 2014 we got married and I moved to Indonesia with him. In my honest opinion as a mother, Indonesia is a very cheap place to live IF you don’t have kids. It was so much fun moving to Indonesia and everything was so cheap and I thought women in Indonesia are so lucky to be able to afford pembantu and nanny 24hrs. In the US daycare is expensive. I gave birth in Indonesia but my kids have dual citizenships: US (from me) and Indonesian (from my husband). Before my kids have to go to school it was great raising kids in Indonesia. But the challenge came once they have to start going to school. I didn’t want my kids to go to sekolah negeri (public schools) in Jakarta. And my kids all speak English since the day they were born. If I put them in private school they still use Bahasa Indonesia in those schools. So our only option was to put them in International…oh I mean inter multicultural Schools. It was fine when they’re still in kindergarden but the price of the school tuition get so expensive once they get to elementary (grade 1 and above). So instead of wasting Ratusan Juta Rupiah for sending our kids to inter multicultural school in Jakarta might as well move back to the US. Thankfully we live in the good neighborhood in the US with a good school district. I decided to take my kids back to my hometown in the US. Indonesia was so much fun before kids but after I have kids I realize I don’t want to raise my kids in Indonesia. I can’t be selfish and I have to think about my kids future especially their Education. Education is not good in Indonesia and me and my husband cannot afford 3 kids to go to intl school that cost Ratusan Juta when my kids have the RIGHTS to obtain education in the US for free. Why should I put my kids to sekolah negeri di Indonesia when my kids are US citizens and can go to school for free in the US? And all those Ratusan Juta for international school it’s such a waste, I would rather save the money for when my kids go to college. Before anyone said “but US Education system is bad too…” guys please I grew up in the US so don’t try to fool me. Not all of them are bad it depends on the district. I’m lucky enough that my house happened to be in a good neighborhood so the public school in my zone is not bad. Also I’ve been to public schools and private schools in the US. The private school in the US doesn’t cost as much as the private school in Jakarta and the private school that I went too was top 1 on the state I used to live😂😂
Great! Thanks for your feedback. It is interesting to get a totally different perspective on the issue. It shows again, as with so many comments here: There is no standard, cookie-cutter approach, solution or standpoint. Everyone has his own story, experience, background, needs, wants and desires. And you have yours. As a German I understand you completely. Education offered in Germany is for free, starting from elementary school up to university. We have Indonesian students in Germany. I ask everyone to ask them about their impressions and opinions. All the best to you and your family!👍
This is called self inflicting problem. You avoid schools because they only use bahasa indonesia?...that sounds to me like a perfect opportunity to learn bahasa. Why would anyone with Indonesian root would want to miss that? They would have met with many people who are enthusiastic to learn english in return. Perfect situation. My problem with schools in the US is that, you'll never know if your kids would come home not sure about their gender or want to remove their genital.
Eating or not eating, the important thing is to get together. This is a Javanese motto which has also been adopted by many families from other tribes in Indonesia

I’ve been in australia, south korea and even in norway with my kids study there, but we decided back home to indonesia where poeple friendly, polite, having fun, easy going. We can help others in need wich we cant do easly in western countries..
For me, other countries besides Indonesia are suitable for looking for work, going to school, pursuing a career and traveling, if I want to live, I prefer to live in Indonesia because here I was born and raised by my parents,
When I was young, I used to think it’d great if I could live in another country. But, once getting old, I realized living in Indonesia is way better. It’s easier to do business once you get tired working for someone else. Also, these days I dont have to pay so much money to have a good service. I just went back from neighboring countries and I was a bit shocked with the level of service they have there. I realized I have been spoiled by Indonesian hospitality and level of service here. I mean you dont have to pay much to get a decent service.
Other countries don't give you the cari muka, and don't have this big problem of "gengsi" lol. The inflated sense of pride at every level is perhaps the worst thing about indonesia
@@westmarkvratya2805 it’s not about cari muka or gengsi. I am talking about is at least we’ll be treated politely and these days you dont have to pay much to get better service. For example, the economiy train is more comfortable than before and it’d rather difficult to get that in another country. I said this because I took a first class transport in another country but it’s just similar with standard class in Indonesia. Plus, being friendly and polite are something that come natural for most Indonesian, I dont see it as cari muka atau gengsi. I dont think I get what you mean though about Indonesian sense of pride?
@vivie_savitri Yes, your "Eksekutif Class" trains in Java are great! Comfortable, air conditioned, clean, maintained, serviced and: ON TIME! The Indonesian trains are more punctual than the German trains.😂👍

I have been living in Western Australia for the past 11 yrs now with 2 kids been married with Australian migran .. I thought living abroad is what I want but when i know how the real life here and the community.. the negative influences in the society for the future of our children really worrying Now me and my husband are thinking to relocate to Indonesia just for the sake of our chilldren
Now you are wiser than the first one i watched. Just because you had bad experience dating Indonesian women, it doesn't mean all are like that. I would say some women who stay in Indonesia after studying abroad are the rich ones because they would inherit wealth from parents and continue parents' business. Yes, some just want to stay closer with family whose parents getting older and weak. And some have mentality to improve their lives or to escape from conservative society especially when you are minority here. Some have "poor" mentality who think foreigners are rich and obsessed to live abroad. And there are other different cases too. People have different issues. Don't take a generalization easily. Now you get to know more the life here, have better opinions I would say.
I’ve been living in New Zealand for 12 years. I still keep my Indonesian Passport for sure. My hubby says when retirement he wants to live in Indonesia. I don’t really like here cause it’s hard to get authentic foods from Indonesia. If we want it need to cook by ourselves and still something taste/flavour is missing.
It's probably also got something to do with songs that most children are familiar of: Tanah Airku (my homeland) & Desaku (my village). Both songs are about loving the country & the hometown you grew up in, how you will never forget about it. Most children are taught these songs since kindergarten & elementary, so maybe, it sort of "programmed" your subconscious mind.
There's a alot and various reason why Indonesian can't stand longer living outside their home country. But this is according someone that i used to talk 1. Food 2. Religious practices 3. Parents 4. Where they were gonna be buried when they die. 1. Food : Indonesia like anothers country in Asia contingent known to have rich taste of flavor and spices, Indonesian food have a lot spices in it so if the Indonesian who used to live long enough in their country then suddenly moved to country like Germany or Canada, they were complained who badly their food taste is. Because Indonesian known as "The largest Muslim country" Indonesian sometimes can be strict about what they'll gonna eat, in Indonesia you'll rarely gonna finds pork in many markets, maybe if you go to Christian province or Supermarket they sell it. Sometimes supermarket doesn't accomodate pork in there unless there's a demands or how many people gonna buy that. 2. Religious practices : Indonesia known as "One the largest Muslims Country" no wonders why there's so many people who lived there a Muslim, but yeah there's a lot Christian who lived here too, the reason why Religious practices is important is because many Indonesian valued the religion as their important thing in their lives but some the others view religious practices is just demands from parents, they just don't want to make their parents angry. Many Asia country have strict policy to maintain a tradition, sometimes religious practices are viewed as part of tradition sometimes cultures for their life. I remember when i'm studying abroad in Thailand for 2 month my parents the first question they ask before anything else is they always asking me "Are you doing a Namaz????? (Sholat/Salat depending what you called)" i mean your childs is living in another country why you asking me am i doing Namaz or not??? Why you not asking me about "How you doing??" "Did you find girlfriend over there??" "How is it about the people? Are they really humble to foreigners or they are ignorant towards strangers??" 3. Parents : There's nothing wrong about parents worrying their kids how they'd been doing, but Indonesian parents just like any Asian sometimes they becames to dramatic even became burdens. I remember when i'm talking to someone in local train station why he quit his job, he says "My parents doesn't want me to live outsides" "Why Not, bor?? I mean you get a great job with good vibes in the offices even they pay you good. Why you quit??" I said then he say "My parents always miss me" although that guy who i met visiting his parents house for 3 or 4th times even managed to get 2 weeks of it still can't satisfy his parents, he telling me that he always asking his parents to come with but both of them always rejecting the offers. His parent always replied "There's nothing better in this world except home, a place where you're born". It's okay if you say that but, as parents you should know how to make your sons/daughter not to worry about when they live abroad. 4. Where you're gonna be buried when you're die : The reason why so many Indonesian doesn't want to get buried outside their home because their relatives can't visit them. I think because many Indonesian are lives in poor conditions and many Indonesian thinks learning another language beside Natives language and Indonesia just adding another pains for them. Because of that 2 major reason that's why you rarely seeing Indonesian who lives near your area except in crowded city for work. And they lived outside just for working.
Well, when you said that during Dutch colonialism some Indonesian women looked up to the Dutch guy for the financial reason. I believe it is the other way around, My grand mother was born during Dutch colonial era told us that the women were forced to get married or to be the concubines by the Dutch. When they were married to the Dutch, they would be frown upon and looked down as they were considered the Dutch accomplices. Being the Dutch accomplices were disgusting and degrading.
Its weird us indonesian once live outside the country we become evenmore proud and nationalistic than when we are in the country 😂 happened to me and couldn't explain still
I married a Dutch with Indonesian descent.. lived 20 years in Netherlands.. I had never want to live in that country forever.. I never want to change my passport even when I can.. and after living in Europe for 20 years.. I moved back to Bali where I'm from and TBH it is the most happiest for me to move back home.. with my family in Bali..
As Indonesian living and working in Australia for more than 10 years now, I still have my citizenship and would love to go back to Ind one day when I’m retired insha’Allah.
Maybe because of "warmer" social life that we get when we are in indonesia. Human basically is social beings. So very reasonable if we feel comfortable with social life in indonesia. My step father is from german, he never ever going back to german because of this differences of social life. All i know, mostly foreigners who married with my families prefer to live in indonesia. But some of them could adapt and survive in western countries even tough they keep communicate and visit their family in indonesia to reminds this missing pieces of social life.
Not only indonesian women. Its indonesian people in general. Maybe in exception some ethnicities like padangnese. We indonesians always have that strong longing for our birthplace. Even people who are born in big cities they still long for their parents home towns or villages.

I've been married to an indonesian woman for 25 yrs, we have lived in Australia for close on 23 years. I would say we are today more in love with each other than we have ever been. I want to retire to indonesia, but my wife says now there's nothing for me in Indonesia. She values her independence from the social/family expectations, especially in her family village. She literally can only stay there a few weeks before it becomes unbearable for her. Wherever we have lived in Australia, she has always managed to find the indonesian community, whether that has been through church or other community activities. So she enjoys indonesian interaction while maintaining independance, so it may be this balance that she enjoys.
Further to my comments above. I just recieved my spouse kitas visa today. A 2 year temporary visa which entitles me to get a KTP indonesian ID, open a bank account and live in indonesia. Once you have been on the temporary residence visa for 5 years you can convert this to a permanent residence visa. Simple application process via an agent took just 2 weeks. The hard part was getting together the documents and a small complication which needed a bit of extra paperwork was that my wife's passport was in her married name while all her local indonesian documents were in her maiden name. All sorted though. I now have a 90 day window to enter indonesia to do the Biometrics, police registration and apply for the KTP ID.
@paulfri1569 not sure what you mean by cost a lot? 1. Wifes Family wanting money, I've been lucky, my wife's family only on some rare occasions asked me for money. And they paid me back many times over in kind, rather than money. But I have heard of some bad situations where the wife's family bleed the expat husband dry. 2. Does my wife spend a lot? When I was earning good money, yes she spent money, but now things are different and moneys a bit tight, my wife works and so do I, it's only taken 25 years, but I think I have finally taught her the value of saving. Most Indonesians just spend what they have today and will let tomorrow look after itself, which has its good points and bad points. But to get an Indonesian to think ahead and save money for the future is a very big ask. 3. I think getting a job and earning their own money is extremely important, and should be encouraged.

Can you share which report you’re refering to? I’m interested to read it too
I'm one of the guys who has been working temporarily in other country and back to my homeland after finished
I used to live abroad for years, but Indonesia is always a sweeter place to me, no comparison. We are just too reluctant to let go of our nationality.

Thanks for sharing your story!👍

So thats why Indo migrants in the western world is so very small number if you have compared to other Asian migrants like from China, India, Phillipines, Thailand etc
Ps: In The NL itself there is plenty of Indo community and they arrived from mutual colonial era time, but in the rest of Schengen, Indo community is tiny considering its the 4th biggest population on earth.

But my parents were always against that and planned to go back to Indonesia ASAP. I never really knew what their reasons were . But I'm now forever grateful, especially living in places that aren't too "modern"... Not sure how to describe why. All the extravagant bright stuff just seem boring after a time? I think Indonesian health system is much improved now.....just a week ago my mother in law was brought to ICU and admitted to hospital for a week due to onset of heart attack. Apart from the small amount of monthly BPJS payment, it's a free treatment. Good service in state hospital too and she stabilized quickly.
Hope your mother in law is doing better by now!

I know the cause. The majority of Indonesians when they die want to be buried close to their family so they can always pray for them after they die
and who wanna pay that expensive lot of soil for you to be buried with no one visit your grave in foreign soil. That’s why some prefer cremated and send back their ashes to their home country, closer to family and relatives.

When I applied for US tourist visa, I got it without even showing my bank account because of 1 answer. The officer said " with your awards and experiences you could easily get a job in the US and not return to Indonesia. well after years study and working abroad It cannot be denied that living in Indonesia has a much better quality in terms of mental and happiness as well as security and spirituality.
Very well said, Sir!
And also, marriage is the union of 2 families.

Very insightful comments and so true in my opinion...
This is so true. I can literally met stranger for the 1st time and I would tell her my biggest life problem and none of it would feel weird or strange for us. The stranger would often give me advice and sometimes tell me their problem too like we've known each other for years 😭
When I was abroad I cant seem to express this extrovert part of me 😭
Indonesian is very family oriented. And has tight bond to the homeland.
For average Indonesian working abroad, getting $$$ to retire and live a comfortable life back home is a dream come true.

What did you miss in other countries and what do you find in indo that makes it better for you to live there?
Very nice written, Bro.. take care and have an enjoyable life wherever you are!
You are missing Jakarta's traffic is like you have toxic relationship with it 🤣
I'm Indonesian living in europe several years but I'm different from the others. everyone has the right to choose their way of life.
In the end, self-control is the key for Indonesians to survive, not because of negative stigmas, gratitude which does not exist in western culture. excessive obsession, and also greed (always dissatisfied) will only bring a person into nothingness
Great points!

@HauTran-sunfromsouth Yep! What about all the people who are working in the hotel sector? This is tourism too! Are they all bad people? No! I should know because I have been working in the international hospitality industry (tourism) for 31 years.
@@MinimalistNomad I've never said that everyone working in the tourism industry is bad.
Yes, social uprooting can backfire.

Then abt converting to another citizenship... 😂😂 no she doesn't want to. She told me dreamed of belanja sayur di pasar bc of norway was very poor of food variety😂. she persuade her husband to travel every year to indo bc of her homesickness 😂😂. Funny, isn't it?!😁
indonesia's healthcare better than norway? that cant be true. can you explain why?
@@rizkyadiyanto7922 I think he's refering to very low-cost BPJS-type healthcare system which doesn't exist in many western countries as it is often considered as "non-capitalism" involving cross subsidy. But I thought Scandinavian countries like Norway have good hc system paid by the tax payers.

I believe she was referring to the waiting periods for services, as in Norway, we are unable to directly walk in for treatment. instead, we must schedule an appointment and wait one or two months for treatment. The appointment cannot take place on the same day or within the same month. In this case, Indonesia's health care is better.

It's not easy for me to work far away from my wife & kid.
And now I back to Indonesia.
Happy to see my families & relatives.
I studied for almost six years in the Netherlands. I liked it, but never thought to live in Europe.
That’s it. 😅

Living in Indonesia is colorful, how can we forget the beautiful memories

Because this is mother land that our patriots have fought for the freedom. And yes, batsh1t can be really bad, we have natural disasters (flood, land slide, forest fire , earthquake) , Ring of Fire volcanoes that goes off every now and then, riots, political fights, they occur and taking turn on monthly or yearly basis 🙈 but love is love and this is homeland.

Now me and my husband are thinking to relocate to Indonesia just for the sake of our chilldren
Well summarized👍 Thanks

But this is according someone that i used to talk
1. Food
2. Religious practices
3. Parents
Are they really humble to foreigners or they are ignorant towards strangers??"
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!👍
Well, when you said that during Dutch colonialism some Indonesian women looked up to the Dutch guy for the financial reason. I believe it is the other way around, My grand mother was born during Dutch colonial era told us that the women were forced to get married or to be the concubines by the Dutch. When they were married to the Dutch, they would be frown upon and looked down as they were considered the Dutch accomplices. Being the Dutch accomplices were disgusting and degrading.

Indonesians in general like their country even though they have so many problems, cause living in indonesia is not that bad.
