@BlueEyedVibeChecker Square Enix is one of the most prolific Japanese game devs in the industry. Especially in Japan itself, they are one of the top dogs. I just knew you were gonna pick some deep cuts for bad Sega games, Joe. Glad I'm not the only one that has a disdain for TaleSpin Genesis. Great vid as always!
Spyborgs was actually designed much differently at the beginning of its dev cycle. It was goofier, with little "saturday morning" comic style interludes between the levels, like you were watching a TV show. I think the publisher pushed the devs to make it more "grounded" and less silly.
Boy if I had a nickel for every time I woke up in a tub full of ice missing an organ.................Anyways great show as usual I recall suffering through a few of those from game rentals at the local corner store, the regret still haunts me till this day...Good Times!!!
This video looks great. I hope you to need an episode of “Good game Remakes on Consoles” Such as Super Mario Platform Series (NES & SNES, 1985-1994)-(GBC & GBA, 1999-2003) as well as Sonic Platform Series (Genesis, 1991-1994) with the release of Sonic Origins Plus (8th & 9th Generation Consoles, 2023) but not including Sonic 1 GBA (2006).
Mr Bones weeds out the non musically inclined. Thanks Ronnie Montrose! Ive always liked the concept more than the execution. Some stages are frustrating beyond tolerable. Some are fun. Needed a sequel on Dreamcast to iron out the bs. Still play it every October, cheat, level select style.
As someone who's played the TaleSpin Sega Genesis game, it's decent if you manage to get a second player to play as Kit Cloudkicker, Baloo's adopted son and trusted navigator. Kit is smaller and more nimble than Baloo and he can use his slingshot to hit enemies from far away. However, playing as Kit in the flight stages is a bad idea, as the computer controls the Sea Duck since Kit is flying outside it on his air foil. The computer has the tendency to miss power-ups, specifically the health ones that keep the Sea Duck from taking too much damage. TaleSpin on the Genesis is at least playable compared to Fantasia, but it's clearly not one of the Genesis' more memorable Disney games. (Castle Of Illusion, Quackshot, Aladdin, The Lion King, and others are more in that category.) It's sad that TaleSpin in general had games that were mediocre at best; the NES game was an okay-ish shoot-em' up that's probably Capcom's weakest Disney game... and it's still considered to be the best game based on the show. The TurboGrafix-16 game is seen as the bottom of the barrel, as despite having better graphics than the Genesis game, it suffers from atrocious controls, severely faulty hit detection, and all-around uninspired gameplay, flaws it shares with the Darkwing Duck TurboGrafx-16 game.
12:56 That's just ridiculous. Just a few years earlier in Metroid prime 3 you were already able to play with the nunchuck plugged into the Wii remote and therefore control with the joystick on the nunchuck and still aim with the motion controls of the Wii remote. I mean there is no good reason to make players have to hold the Wii remote on its side and use a d-pad in a 3D environment and then keep going back and forth between holding it on its side and pointing it forwards to aim They could have easily done better I just don't understand why they would have designed it that way. This is the first time I've actually been made it aware of how bad the controls in Metroid Other M are.
To be fair, Other M was not developed by Nintendo, they only helped with it. 17:15 - LOL, nice timing :D This Tale Spin game looks like a game for the Amiga 500. And if I had this on my Amiga 500 back then I've loved it. 24:15 - or play BeatDown - Firsts of Vengeance!
I was expecting Mindjack in this episode though, ugh. Anyway I remember playing Crime Life on PC years ago, I didn't know it was a bad game until this video.
I have a great show idea! I ran into this with my Retrotink 5x! Olderr generations probaly don thave it? but then again, snes has some 384p iirc sometimes, sonic 2 player had the interlaced 2 player mode. WOUld be handy info a nd col video especially for us peopple setting up out Tinks the higher resolution really maters
3:04 i guess for 3d platformers in recent years, some of the ones I can remember off the top of my head, which may be of interest: Pseudoregalia Corn Kidz 64 Cavern of Dreams Toree (Toree 2 is short, but it's nice. but maybe this doesn't fit in 3d platformer category, or doesnt have enough 3d platforming in it) Lunistice(has guest character Toree) Super Kiwi 64 Macbat 64 Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom Penny's Big Breakaway Dadish 3D (the dev was doing 2d games previously) Celeste 64 (oh ... wait, what?) Conbunn Cardboard (character isnt 3d. dont know enough other than collect CDs. It's part of the plot. also, the CD covers are pretty 😳) Spark the Electric Jester (only on game 3) A Hat in Time Rollin' Rascal (in kickstarter) Bomb Rush Cyberfunk
@@ilikecurry2345 wasnt aware of that one 👍. I just remembered that Catastrophe Crow has happened, which Adam Butcher made a release video on his channel. He puts the itch io link in his vid description and it's playable on itch io, but no downloads. No volume controls though, so have to control volume on your computer.
Games were harder then so I think that was often used to hide the fact that there wasn't really much substance. Today they are usually easier but this time sheer size is frequently used to hide the shallowness and mediocrity. Overall I think our lives are still richer for their existence but that turd pool has turned into an ocean.
I'm researching that idea. Came up with some companies, but man finding good games among them is tough. Found a few, maybe about half an episode's worth so far, lol.

Wasn't expecting a Croc reference. That was part of my childhood right there.
So was Top Gun: The Second Mission, my cousin owned that. I remembered the 2 player mode being better than the single player game.
I really like the concept here.
I'll bet you could make an entire series on Nintendo's bad games.
Funny episode, Joe! You never disappoint. There's nothing like some sack before bed.
Or in my case, sack when waking up.
Bonus points for having Mr Bones. Its one of those 'so bad its good' games imo, similar to Johnny Bazookatone & Bug Too
I dunno about Johnny Bazookatone... That one's not even interesting. At least Mr. Bones is unique.
I just knew you were gonna pick some deep cuts for bad Sega games, Joe. Glad I'm not the only one that has a disdain for TaleSpin Genesis. Great vid as always!
I was already having a good night. Now it’s even better! Thanks for the upload!!
I’m actually surprised you didn’t mention Greendog. And it’s funny too that Tailspin reminds me a lot of Greendog too
Son, did you see that “Green Dog” in that puppy litter down in Florida????
Love me some interactive entertainment satchel.
Always love the Outros
I'd completely forgotten I spent a week trying to pretend Donkey Kong Barrell Blast was fun. Must be a suppressed memory. 😂
Ironically, you've made me want to check out a few of these.
Its always amazing when you recognise burning love from afterburner.... no matter the arrangement
Spyborgs was actually designed much differently at the beginning of its dev cycle. It was goofier, with little "saturday morning" comic style interludes between the levels, like you were watching a TV show.
I think the publisher pushed the devs to make it more "grounded" and less silly.
Yuji Naka was even arrested for insider trading charges while he was in Square Enix. Ouch.
Love the Hotel Dusk-style intro
Mr. Bones was responsible for some of the funniest Oneyplays moments.
I’m going to say this donkey Kong barrel blast is fun game once you learn how to control with Nitro move
Name checks out
I honestly forget that I even own Metroid Other M until I see it on my game shelf.
Thank you for reviewing all these and saving us from wasting our money playing garbage games.
17:15 - LOL, nice timing :D
This Tale Spin game looks like a game for the Amiga 500. And if I had this on my Amiga 500 back then I've loved it.
24:15 - or play BeatDown - Firsts of Vengeance!
Joe is such a great guy. Anyone notice he wouldn't attack the doggos in final fight? Thats top lad behavior right there.
I was expecting Mindjack in this episode though, ugh. Anyway I remember playing Crime Life on PC years ago, I didn't know it was a bad game until this video.
I have a great show idea! I ran into this with my Retrotink 5x! "Old games with high resolution modes" Setting up my tink and realizing, for example, some Saturn games hhave 480i mode etc, any olkd systems that havbe higher res modees for old sstems like PS1, if any, Saturn, all thta generation. Olderr generations probaly don thave it? but then again, snes has some 384p iirc sometimes, sonic 2 player had the interlaced 2 player mode. WOUld be handy info a nd col video especially for us peopple setting up out Tinks the higher resolution really maters
I'd watch that
"But instead of being fun, it's not." I have no idea why that was so funny, but kudos.
3:04 i guess for 3d platformers in recent years, some of the ones I can remember off the top of my head, which may be of interest:
Pseudoregalia
Corn Kidz 64
Cavern of Dreams
Toree (Toree 2 is short, but it's nice. but maybe this doesn't fit in 3d platformer category, or doesnt have enough 3d platforming in it)
Lunistice(has guest character Toree)
Super Kiwi 64
Macbat 64
Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom
Penny's Big Breakaway
Dadish 3D (the dev was doing 2d games previously)
Celeste 64 (oh ... wait, what?)
Conbunn Cardboard (character isnt 3d. dont know enough other than collect CDs. It's part of the plot. also, the CD covers are pretty 😳)
Spark the Electric Jester (only on game 3)
A Hat in Time
Rollin' Rascal (in kickstarter)
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk
Orbo's Odyssey.
Ok but how many of them aren’t complete trash?
Games were harder then so I think that was often used to hide the fact that there wasn't really much substance. Today they are usually easier but this time sheer size is frequently used to hide the shallowness and mediocrity. Overall I think our lives are still richer for their existence but that turd pool has turned into an ocean.
Now we need a video about great games from bad companies.
I'm researching that idea. Came up with some companies, but man finding good games among them is tough. Found a few, maybe about half an episode's worth so far, lol.
Spiderman Maximum Carnage from LJN.
@@GameSack
If you go for more modern games & companies, and/or include a section of merely “okay” games as honorable mentions, it would be easier. Some examples:
* Crash Bandicoot 4 - Activision
* Spectral Vs. Generation - Phoenix.
* Contra: Operation Galuga - Konami
* Pokemon Legends: Arceus - Game Freak
* The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie - THQ
* Final Fantasy 7 Remake - Squeenix
That TaleSpin game has serious Greendog energy
Well, it is the same people that made greendog
i had a genesis and NES talespin, i had no idea there was a genesis game - that seems like greendog with a sprite swap-out that was 100% greendog music
Sega of America could have easily filled the whole episode.
Another great series to continue. Thanks.
Yuji Naka was sacked from Square Enix and then got sent to jail. How the mighty has fallen
