- Did you know that Jet Set Radio had two different versions in Japan? One of them is called De La Jet Set Radio, and the story of its existence is pretty interesting.

You can't tell me that the Japanese devs came up with the title De La Jet Set Radio and not have taken at least a little inspiration from De La Soul. Their music fits the aesthetic so well.

de la was meant to mean deluxe, but the added reference doesn't hurt

I’m glad studios don’t do this anymore. People around the world embrace each other’s cultures, so making a game have specific content for that region is dumb. Glad Japan got to experience the content we had in the states and EU
Agreed. It made for some cool game lore, though.
Studios still do this but not the in form of physical releases since that was the limitation back in the day. Games that don't do it are the ones not designed for additional content. An example would be story centric games vs online/community focused games. Online games with strong communities tend to have region locked content and events.

i remember buying Jet Grind Radio way back in 2009 from eBay for $8 and being surprised to see it was a nice sealed copy. legendary game

From what I remember, the Japanese version has a song that does not exist in other versions of the game. The song's name is “Dunny Boy Williamson Show”.
it also doesn't have Rob Zombie's Dragula, which is a godsend if, like me, you thought it was horrendously overplayed

This is Jet Grind Radio. JetSet Radio is the second game, Jetset Radio Future.
De La Jet Set Radio has the most complete soundtrack of every version of the game. It has all the songs from both the NTSC and PAL versions, as well as the two songs that were cut from the HD rerelease due to licensing issues. It technically doesn't have the complete soundtrack, since a placeholder song from the original Japanese soundtrack that was used because of a licensing dispute was not featured in De La.
Cube's look and to an extent personality was changed from Japan to US. Like one of her challenges was just to take a leap off a bridge, which made sense for the character. They redubbed the skaters too, despite them making generic noises in the first place.
Oh so that's why she has two different outfits, I was wondering why she had two outfits makes total sense.
I feel bad that my only memory of this game was playing it during high school on my PS Vita and suffering from thumb cramps because of how small the thumb sticks were.
This type of situation also happened with the original animal crossing, resulting in it having 5 different versions across 3 consoles
There was also an exclusive track that plays during some Shibuya levels that was removed in the international versions
I only know of this game because of Sonic and Sega Racing
Same, I played that game and saw Beat and was thinking 'who is this cool headphone wearing teenager' and he was my favourite character because he looked cool to me and for no other reason
I only knew this game because I play Sega Superstars Tennis and I saw the map with Beat in it, I am new to JSR and it's been a dream for me to play it I never knew where to get it but I have the full game on my Android phone after I played as Beat on Sega Superstars Tennis he's been my favorite character for me alongside with Gum I don't see them as friends I see them more than that I ship them so hard it ain't even funny they're cute together NGL!
Beat and Gum aren't teenagers they're young adults, they're 17. Don't believe me? Google it!

I finally got to play Jet Set Radio through Steam a few years ago, amazing series, love JSRF as well and the spiritual sucessor in the form of Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, glad the franchise is making a return and getting some more love

I didnt even know it existed. I thought it was just that one game Jet set radio future that was like... On a demo cd for xbox or whatever it was.
Classic banger, the game that got me into aggressive inline, every time I'm at the skate park I end up thinking about JSR one way or another. Still play it on Steam sometimes, then I remember "hey I can actually do this stuff now!" And go outside to skate 😂
When I got my Xbox way back in the day, I played way too much Jet Set Radio Future😂.
The Jet Crush mode in the original JP Jet Set seemed like it was harder to me.

5 days after I was born de la jet set came out
Sonic adventure, final fantasy 7 and animal crossing all have rereleases like this.

To be far Japan got off easy because back in that era they used to region lock the F*** out of the USA and we could not play a great portion of the consoles games titles

That's second version is a raw deal since grind square is the worst level in the game. Bantam Street is good and cube is my favorite character but I don't think it makes up for how terrible grind square plays...the rob zombie mix might though.
They brainwashed us to believe the controls were acceptable. Lol. Those controls are some of the worst in history.
