- Ex-orphan and fully grown elephant bull, Ndume, has been living wild for over 20 years among Tsavo National Park's elephants but has been rarely seen in recent years. In a magical meeting in February 2015, he returned closer to home - watch our short video where he meets his former elephant Keepers!

Established in 1977, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) operates the world’s most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program, rescuing and hand-rearing orphaned elephants and other animals that have lost their mothers, all too often as a result of human activity. But we do much more than this. Through our Aerial, Anti-Poaching and Mobile Veterinary Units, we safeguard the natural environment and provide immediate assistance to wild animals in need. We also secure irreplaceable wilderness areas so that animals will always have space to roam and work with local partners and communities to ensure people and wildlife can live alongside one another.

From a frightened, grieving calf to a majestic elephant bull, Ndume has survived and thrived. Thanks to Keeper Mishak who consoled him as a baby through nights filled with nightmares until he was a happy toddler, and Keeper Joseph, who kept him safe and healthy until he made the transition to being wild again.
This, dear people is the lovely work of The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Blessings to all.
Because of your comment here, today I read Ndume's story and updates at SWT's website. What a story! ~ That horrible event (that orphaned Ndume) happened, at least in part, because there wasn't a protected wildlife corridor that the Imenti forest elephants could use to migrate safely to the forests of Mount Kenya, their original homeland. The Imenti forest elephants (belonging to the Mt. Kenya herds) became trapped there, unable to migrate, because they were boxed in by the new agriculture, etc. As was said, that wildlife corridor has been badly needed, for the sake of the elephants and other animals. Please, DO YOU KNOW if a wildlife corridor has been created there? To whoever answers this, thank you in advance.
Que lindos amei 😍😍🐘🇧🇷❤️❤️
@@cacatr4495yes it has be made and funded by donations for save the elephants
Big, beautiful boy, Ndume. The joy in Joseph's face is wonderful to see; I can feel his happiness.
I don't know what I'm more thrilled about, Ndume returning to say hello or the smile on that keeper's face.
right!
I think he's recalling Ndume's lifetime since he came into DSWT's care as a terrified baby elephant.
I couldn’t agree more!
Maxmillan Maxmillan ,I think both would be appropriate.
The look in his eyes clearly showed how this mighty man love these wonderful animals. Thank you Sir!
I LOVE THESE KEEPERS - THEY ARE A BLESSING - THEY ARE FANTASTIC - I LOVE THEM I LOVE THEM - THANK YOU
Ndume: "Greetings Joseph. I am well, and pleased to see you smiling so. The purpose of my long journey has been fulfilled. Until we meet again, you remain in my heart."
Pass the tissue box this is so beautifully said
😢🙂😍
Beautiful words. I hope Ndume is well, living the life he deserves to live
"he's very much ok, i'm really very very much happy" is the best sentince i've heard ina long time
right!
@@agirlyoudontknow332 I am happy too.
The happiness on Keeper Joseph Sauni's face upon seeing Ndume after a long time is as wonderful to behold as Ndume's return itself. The video was posted six years ago. I hope Ndume continues to thrive in the wild.
It's so amazing how the keeper knew who he was, to me all elephants look alike, it must be a real gift to be able to tell who is who
I always wonder about that too. They also can tell the difference between their own orphans and wild herds who come to visit, as well as knowing which baby belongs to whom when girl elephants come back to introduce their babies.
@@MJ_Solo I think they tag them in some way to know the difference. Even humans who've had 30+ children (like some men with multiple wives in muslim countries) literally can't tell their kids apart from others much of the time.
@@ss-nc2dy Yeah, that makes sense, I didn't think of them tagging them!
s s. No, they don’t tag them. To the untrained eye all elephants look alike, but they each actually have different faces and features. Because the keepers raised them from babies and spent every day with them for 6 - 10 years they can recognize them on sight. If we did the same, we’d be able to, too.
@@gabe-po9yi That's amazing! I gues like cats, and other animals who "look the same" upon first sight..
Yes! A former orphan and he's now 26 years old!!!! What a testament to the DWST. I'm just amazed that he's managed to stay out of the sight of poachers and human conflict. Here's to 26 more years you beautiful boy!!!🐘❤️🐘❤️🐘
Ndume's life story is worth reading. Impressed he traveled over 100 miles to get back to Tsavo after having been relocated.
wow
@@agirlyoudontknow332you should read the whole story on the Sheldrick site. It’s beautiful especially the imenti part.
what a great gift. you saved an elephant and he's made it 26yrs!!
Oh Joseph, bless your little soul. Your kindness always puts a smile on my face.
GREAT soul, you mean...
This is what makes it all worth doing .
When a beautiful majestic Bull Elephant , that was once a calf at the shelter returns .
Fine job Gentlemen .
Life is worth living , and protecting isn't it ?
amen

An elephant never forgets!
the keeper is just as excited so nice to see bless you all
So good to see Joseph's smile
The keepers lives are incredible and so fulfilling. The dedication they have. There’s a special place in heaven for the keepers.
Thank you Joseph for this present.
AWESOME! Thank you so much for sharing this. He's so handsome. Another 20 to 30 years and he'll be in his prime. I can't imagine how much bigger and more handsome he could get. He's already such a magnificent bull.
Live long and prosper!
He's gonna be a young tusker
How exciting the keepers are! Can’t fate that!! They are the true protectors of our greatest treasures.
Oh my goodness! The keepers smiles and delight touched deep in my soul!
Wonderful to see this and to see that DSWT is making a huge difference to these beautiful animals. Bless all of you who work there and make that difference ! I love to see Joseph too, such a kind voice and a beautiful smile to match his soul !
It's amazing to see the keeper remembering the names of former orphans, he must have seen quite a lot of orphans so far
fietsvriend yeah it is amazing 26 year old in the wild .,,, I wondered how old is Joseph
wow what a handsome bull I love this place thank you for loving these guys
Joseph your happines and smile are the most loving and beautiful i ever see❤Love you❤
Aren't elephants amazing? So grateful to keepers and Sheldrick Trust for all they do.
So grateful Ndume is Alive and well
More than fabulous to see! Their eyes locked in a knowing embrace. May Ndume be safe and divinely protected always, prospering in peace.
I am really amazed how you recognized faces of old elephants in your care.
So beautiful. The love between Elephants and Humans. The continuation of elephants is world is so important for us all and for Earth.
be safe, Ndume!
I kind of feel bad for the guy. You can see how happy he is but you can see how much he misses him too. It was a bitersweet reunion
I think what we are seeing there is Love. Love knows how to release truly, so that there's no sorrow or sense of missing or loss. I don't think we see bittersweet; I think we see Love in action, the kind of Love that wants the best of Life and goodness for Ndume, the kind that has deep, sacred appreciation for Ndume's Life. Joseph's eyes are filled with profound appreciation, of a depth that maybe many of us have never known in this Life.
@@cacatr4495 Yes the expression of connection they showed ( both man and elephant) was enough for both of them
I LOVE THESE KEEPERS FOR ALL THEIR LOVE TO THE ELEPHANTS
I met Joseph and I swear he talks elephant. I saw him put his hand up and block three huge wild elephants from drinking at the warer hole until the small orphan elephants had finished. It is a real testament to his dedication that Ndume comes back decades later to say Hello. This organization is incredibly talented in rewilding elephants. God bless all of them.
And now I have something in my eye...
The smile on Joseph's face is so precious .💖
Keepers: (gasp in excitement)
Ndume: hey what's up keepers long time no see
I am so happy with people who are happy for the right reason. Heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful elephant keepers on the globe. Long live the Sheldrick wildlife trust.
Its amazing that these keepers remember the name of each elephants even if they did not see them for a long time. much love to you guys. bless you all.
So touching. Thank you all for your effort to save these precious lives.
Dedication, hard work and love of DSWT and the Caretakers.

Claudette: so beautiful to see him thrive and be so gentle in his return. What a joy for the keepers and their loving care! A return of grateful love to the ones who gave him what he needed to grow into the Beauty he is. Congratulations to the Sheldricks and keepers for helping these beautiful elephants who needed their help and one can see they are grateful for the gift of their free life!

Thank you, Joseph and your fellow keepers, who make this all possible.
Amazing....
Thank you DSWT without all of you NDUME cannot survive....as well as the other orphans....
God bless you all
I am tearful! Joseph and all the keepers and DSWT would be standing in the front row on the day of judgement, to enter the heaven for serving humanity.
These people are the very best of the best. This is a great charity to support, actually the number 1 place in my books.
I love watching all the videos from The Trust, but the ones of returning orphans are the best. The keepers couldn’t get a better accolade of their amazing work. 💕🐘💕🐘💕🐘
I want a full DSWT video about rescuing an orphan elephant calf, from the beginning it was rescued until it was big enough to released to the wild. It will be a 'must watch documentary' video.
you take care of an animal and raise it and treat the animal good and it will always remember you and never forget
The true love Joseph and Ndume have for each is beautiful to see in this fleeting reunion. I hope precious Ndume and his herd are keeping safe and healthy.🐘🙏🥰
Its amazing that he traveled very far to come back to TSAVO to visit ..for sure he was relocated away from this place when he was more than 2 yrs old.
So happy and grateful for all of you - ellie and human. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Tears of joy
God bless Joseph & all the keepers, bless Ndume
Mr. Joseph is sooooo happy to see his tiny family member become a beautiful big now.....👌👌👌👌👌.........soo wonderful movemnt ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
WHAT A BIG BEAUTIFUL ELEPHANT.
I think Joseph is very fantastic too. May GOD Bless you always 💕
If only we could understand their language, we would understand their kindness and good intention to co-exists. This made me cry. He has his own family and probably brought them to meet his foster mum - the careers. OUCHIE! and more tears
The elephant language of sounds is now able to be translated and translation work has begun. See websites > elephant voices dot org and hello in elephant dot com. At the latter, you can put "I love you" into the translator, and hear it in elephant-speak. ~ My understanding (I'm no expert) is that bull elephants don't live with the herd, but visit to mate. Otherwise, they live, feed and migrate with other bulls or alone. It is the mother-elephants that bring their new wild-born babies back to show the keepers/caregivers. Elephant herds/famiies are led and cared for by the mothers, and the females stay together for Life, closely knit in family bond.
I wish Ndume would come visit again
I love to see Africans smiling and happy. They always seem so genuine and real. Sorry if that offends anyone.
👍.. Joesph-Sauni .. Such a "Wonderful Man" .. God-Bless "Ndume" .. I Hope You Live-Forever ..👍
Each time tears😢 come ! keepers are so happy they deserve so much this gift !! wow ! a super beautiful Ndume ! ex Keepers ‘ baby ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ yes fantastic ! majestuous 🐘🇫🇷🎈happy for you keepers mum s and dads

What really amazes me is how they can recognise a ele by their names..
Awesome treasure !! so moving !!’ 🥲💕🐘💕🥰🇫🇷
Thank you so much 🐘❤🙏
Ndume has grown into a very handsome fellow.
This is the power of Love! This is why Sheldrick Wildlife Trust does what they do > for Life, for exactly this outcome of Life!
~ I just read Ndume's full story at www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/ndume and at the links there, and what a story! He's now 31 years old. So great. ~ Considering Ndume's story, does anyone know if an elephant migratory corridor has been opened so the Imenti forest elephants can safely travel to Mount Kenya's forests?
~ At this channel, and with DSWT, Love is spoken here. Don't we love that?!
JOY springs up in EDEN and I’m so happy to witness it!
Loved the backstory of how Joseph was invited by a camping couple to identify an ellie who kept drinking their clean shower water every day. Of course Ndume (couple called him Chotto) kept disappearing every time the Keepers showed up!
Obvious that he recognized you all.
His smile says it all x
Add a comment... how can this be put into words? Just beautiful ♡♡
I am so glad to see you happy Joseph, and to know Ndume is well and so strong is a great inspiration to you to continue your wonderful work. It’s great that you know him and love him as a brother. Thank you David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
Oh the smile just like a mom vn she see her baby oh love is so great
Love IS great!! :)
Awesome!! Amazing and absolutely heart warming!! Love it ... sharing!!
Seeing you guys happy makes me happy because you all get happy from things that are genuinely good. :)
Joseph your amazing and all the keepers!
if there was no over-playing of music, we could hear the sounds of Ndume!! the music is overbearing
Joseph, you were so excited and happy to see Ndume!🥰🥰💝💝😍😍 MY HEART IS FULL! Thank you!
