You absolutely nailed this review Carter. You put this into words in a way most wouldn’t have been able to and I think I’d feel exactly as you described about the arius.
Just looking at this makes me want it more. There's a certain style of design I just want and can't explain it. Kind of like some guys are a Porsche guy or a Bronco/Raptor guy.
Very well delivered. I was not familiar with this knife before, but you certainly bolstered your observations with fact, and you were careful about retaining your objectivity. Extremely well done. Very effective communication.
I recently purchased a used one out of curiosity. It has textured milling on the handle and looks really good. Hopefully I like it. Like you I wasn't really seeking one out but I'm taking the gamble.
I’ve got one inbound. I’ve been in the knife game for a long time, in and out since 2011 so we’ll see if I share your opinions on the milling. I do 100% see what you mean though, especially remembering what was important 12 years ago (fit and finish vs a sharpened fidget spinner).
I prefer the ergos of the flipper delete version especially with the finger choil with the textured handles. And prices have come down a lot on the secondary. Pretty much band new at table prices. So it’s definitely a good time to buy if someone is in the market for one. But yeah like any knife everyone has their preferences.
I totally agree. Especially now, there going for around a 1000$ now. Also, very weak detents. Just grab the handle hold the blade facing down towards the floor and shake it. Blade pops right out with little effort. Total junk.
I’ve contemplated picking up one, which is pretty tough given the demand. Secondary prices are just not worth it to me. Respect for going against the grain.
My favorite right now is the two sun 129 cF for a few months now and a little Rike 1902 and lg 1902 . I had to take some pressure of the larger ones lockbar though . Still it was good 👍as shipped and broke in really super smooth . Same as an artisan valor with the hydraulic drop if someone likes that .
I agree completely I’ve hade a DLC Arius and haven’t carried it more than 5 times Awesome story great people Doesn’t fit in my rotation I enjoy your content 👊🏻🤘🏻
I have the same feelings about that knife! I remember when they first came out at $550! I didn't pull the trigger back then and I can't imagine doing it now. I'm going through the same thing with the Lamia right now and I passed on the last drop of $780 but having a little bit of regret seeing them go for over 1K in the secondary market! I could have made enough money to buy another good knife
Gotta call em like ya see em. I personally loved the action on the one I borrowed from Steve. But it just was too light and not substantial enough in hand for my personal tastes. I’m sure others will appreciate your thoughts as I do
I used to like Arius and goblin , very expensive. But here was the issue I drop the goblin in wooden floor and blade snap 🤷♂️. No warranty have to pay for blade and they don’t wanna return my blade also but watever. My issue is how the hell $700 blade can snap. That goblin was some sort of Spl edition or something only few made full dlc with bronze hardware. Secondary market cost me $1000. Strider have a life time warranty if you didn’t do any after market modifications on that. First of all strider blade won’t snap even if you drop 30 feet high on hard concrete. It will get scratched but blade won’t snap. By some unlucky reason if it does they not gonna charge anything. STRIDERS ARE THE BEST KNIFES ALL OVER
I would have to agree with you all though it is a beautiful knife and well sought-after it is intirley over priced and over rated so I can appreciate your appinuion. Thanks!
It’s hard to take this review seriously with the way you fangirl over strider and Emerson. You talk about value a good deal. Strider is the definition of overvalued. Some of your points would hit home so much better if I didn’t watch your channel all the time and see the bias in this video in particular
@@edged_mindset still absolutely love your channel. I’ve had an arius for a few years and got a strider because of your content. Just didn’t like this one as much. Keep up the awesome content
I definitely appreciate your take on this, and agree. So many boring titanium frame lock flippers out there in 20cv/m390 this just doesn't stand out to me either. I always think about getting one, then pick up my sebenza/zaan/inkosi and that thought goes away. If the secondary or even primary pricing was 500 like you said, I'd be much more enticed. Thanks for the detailed review, liked and subbed.
I don’t love my Arius, I also don’t like my Demko AD20 or any of my Hinderer XM 18 3.5’s including my vintage Bowie. People hate me but it just is what it is.
I appreciate your opinion on the knife. Sometimes you just don’t click with a design that others like. I’ve never handled an Arius so I can’t say for certain but aesthetically it doesn’t really do much for me. It reminds me of an Orca or something.
I struggled so much with the Lamia I broke down and ordered a clone from AliExpress just to get it in hand and kinda get a little better feel rather than spending the $780 and be disappointed 😂
So I definitely agree with you on most of the points here except I do like this knife. Love the design, action everything about it. But the machining I definitely agree. The finish on these is definitely not CRK level. It is nowhere near Shirogorov level. But the overall build quality and fit is world class imo.
It was a catch and release for me. Very well made but it wasn’t the hype machine so many made it out be, at least to me. I should have held onto it after seeing the prices go stupid after a couple years. Love Koenig’s work but would really like to see something new from them.
something that you said near the beginning stuck out to me: that you were trying to articulate exactly what you didn't like about the knife in a way that would make the most sense to others. i don't think you need to do that. we live in a social media age, where we try so hard to please or appease others. but i think it's also perfectly valid to have your opinion, even if those opinions are more difficult for you to voice because you're on a platform where people will be judging you for simply saying what you think. i don't like the arius either, but it's mostly because its aesthetics do not appeal to me and i like knives that i can deploy easily with either hand with all available methods. others can disagree with me, and i'm fine with that. i appreciate that you've posted a review where you've come out with the fact that you don't like it for subjective reasons despite the objective good qualities that this knife has, and i hope you will remain firm with those opinions.
Ya I guess you’re right it’s not meant for you. Best action in the world on a semi production but if you don’t like how she looks them it’s too much money to cough up it’s true. Having said that this is my favourite knife after carrying it for over a year and half
Your bonkers, but it's ok. People who like Microtechs, usually also like the weird stuff like Strider, Demko & CKF. While on the other side of that, the people who like Koenig, also go for Oz Machine Co, Brown, Holt, Eutsler, SPK, etc. It has to do with money quite alot, but its also stylistic differences.
I didn't care for my Arius, for many of the the same reasons you mentioned in this video. That being said, my Arius (textured distressed bronze/two-tone blade), is the only knife that I really, really regret selling, because I really miss admiring it for its overall aesthetic. Whether deployed, or closed, my Arius was just so pleasing to the eye, and the drop shut action was superb! Mine was a gen 2 Arius (full weight) purchased before the Arius gained the overwhelming popularity that it currently has. It's currently selling on the secondary market for just about double (or more, perhaps) of what I paid for it new at Blade HQ. I would love to have that same gen 2 Arius back in my collection now. Never to carry or use (too heavy, and carries awkwardly) but simply to just admire it for the beautiful knife that it truly is to me.

I don’t care for flippers anymore, I would not consider it. Make it thumb stud, with bronze washers, replace the flipper tab with a choil, then you have something.
I have to disagree in some aspects, and that's okay! As for quality and action, I prefer it over my Holts, which says something because my Holts were more expensive. ZT actually can make a really good knife. I remember owning the ZT 0777 and that was a cool knife. Koenig is definitely overpriced though and does look like an expensive ZT but just not as cool especially at over 1000. However I would pay over 1000 for a ZT 0777 that one is absolutely worth it for the amount of work they put into the knife. Koenig up charging like a mofo. It ain’t that special.

I think the Koenig Arius is a really cool looking knife! But I do not understand why the knife sells for well over a thousand dollars! Because of the outrageous secondary market prices I think the knife is overrated. For the price I would rather buy a custom knife where I at least get to pick the materials the knife is made with. I called Koenig once and tried to order a knife, and they said no! I can call Chris Reeve and order a knife. I have to wait months to get the knife, but at least they will make you a knife! In my opinion Koenig knives are overrated. I agree with you 100% I believe Chris Reeve Knives are the gold standard for production knives. New companies come along and feel that if they sell their knives at a higher price they must be better than Chris Reeve knives. They are not better.

Amazing action, awesome ergos, beautiful and feels much lighter than it looks. Absolute perfection. Right up there with Holt and Shiro.
You're comparing it to other overpriced knives, and that does nothing for your argument. There is nothing special about it compared to all the Chinese titanium flippers dropping now for half the price. Totally overrated.
I agree on many of your points. I picked up a triple black model from pvk last yr and that knife is about 80% hype. I live bill’s story and how he came to be a company. And the looks i loved. But once i got it, meh. Id trade mine for a od green zaan anyday lol
I appreciate your alternate perspective viewpoint, because by most measures, this knife is not a good value. It's one of the strikes I have against it, though I haven't done a full review yet either. As for "sucks" though...nice click bait title 😃. Thanks man!
It’s Sad how China can make a Very Good knife at a price that is very good but the Same knife made in Chine if it was made in America then the price is to Much I know Koenig is American out there are so my Titanium flippers out there
I can't agree with you. I can't disagree you. I wanted one. You've given me a lot reasons to pause. Definitely, reasons to rethink it. The machining and milling. Makes it rugged, used in appearance. Less afraid to carry and deploy it Damn it! Thanks for the review. Given me pause....
@Edged Mindset No worries. Several other knives are higher on the list. After seeing this review, I made a shuffle in calendar and coin. I'll get one. Just further down the schedule.
Thank you. It's always good to recognize the faults in some of our weirder human traits. That subconscious desire to "fit in" is a powerful thing. Buyers remorse often leads to heavy loss, as few products maintain retail value after purchase. This knife is simply UGLY in my opinion. It's more reminiscent of a sex toy than an instrument of death. Cheers!

I appreciate your alternate perspective viewpoint, because by most measures, this knife is not a good value. It's one of the strikes I have against it, though I haven't done a full review yet either. As for "sucks" though...nice click bait title 😃. Thanks man!
Sorry. May have went too far on that one. It's dog eat dog here on YT
Never understood the appeal of this knife. It’s very bulbous.
It’s Sad how China can make a Very Good knife at a price that is very good but the Same knife made in Chine if it was made in America then the price is to Much I know Koenig is American out there are so my Titanium flippers out there
Yes it is sad. Slave labor is very cheap
That’s the difference between products made by enslaved children & women vs products made by employees.
I can't agree with you. I can't disagree you. I wanted one. You've given me a lot reasons to pause. Definitely, reasons to rethink it.
The machining and milling. Makes it rugged, used in appearance. Less afraid to carry and deploy it
Damn it!
Thanks for the review. Given me pause....
Sorry man. I would definitely get one in the future, just not for 700. Maybe 450. I would go no flipper but that's just me
@Edged Mindset No worries.
Cheers!
Civivi>stolen valor strider
Just another boring flipper.
Exactly!
Personal I’m not a big fan of knives with big holes in the blades that’s just me
