The Algorithm God’s suggested I’d like your channel after I followed Gone with the Wynns… 2 weeks later, having binge-watched your journey from the start I’m finally up-to-date! You guys are amazing and so inspirational, I’ve been completely hooked living vicariously through your story! Love how you tackle each challenge that comes your way, you can really see how much you’ve grown since the start! …the only downside to being up-to-date is I now I have to wait a week for each new episode! 🤣
@@TeuluTribe Hi Guys, I have lived the same journey as Adam b and was going to say similar words, I have just a couple more episodes that I am eeking out as I reach the weekly point. Meanwhile my conversation to my family has become an obsession! What are you doing to me? "Your bloody doing it" Stay safe.
When we did our windows we had very similar issues, however we used butyl tape to seal the windows which was so much cleaner and easier to do. For anyone else thinking of doing this, definitely look into butyl tape instead of using sikaflex. Hope Becka is ok! Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
All the best Becka. Hope you’re on the mend. Zac, you’re a legend. Love the way no job is too scary for you to take on! Just a thought with the sealant, you’ve done mating surface, but I’d run a thin bead around the edge to make doubly sure. But that’s my over engineering! Look forward to seeing the other jobs you tackle.
Life is not boring there. Even if it’s dealing with a million problems…not the least of which is Becca’s knee. We will be anxious to know how that gets sorted. Fixing stuff on an old boat is definitely a way of life. Good thing you guys have the energy for it. All the best from us here in California ❤
Zach, watching you work so diligently on the windows is so nice to see and inspirational. You should be extremely proud of what you and Becka have achieved together and its your superb attitude that brings such joy to all us followers.
My boat is exactly the same age as yours guys .. I keep it in Langkawi Malaysia .. which also has very serious wet season .. and like you, when I bought it the previous owners had not really got on top of the leaks which were everywhere… to fix it you either spend a huge amount of time and effort, like you, or pay someone else .. which is what I have done .. and as you have probably noticed the windows and ports are the easy bits .. after you have chain plates, toe rails and stanchions which are very challenging .. It has been hugely expensive as effectively you rebuild the boat .. good luck !
You made the right choice cos dehumidifiers generate lots of heat. Fans can help to disrupt mozzies. Dengue is no joke. Mosquito nets might be a good investment....
Next trip to Home Depot pick up an pvc pipe elbow. Use it on the outside of your AC exhaust tube. Point it downwards. It will stop the rain getting into your flex exhaust hose. Keep up the good work and think everything through. You'll be happier in the long run.
Zach, you killed it with the window repairs, considering you're mostly doing them solo (with a little help from a friend!) AND filming it for us. While Becka's injury absolutely sucks, I'm glad it happened in the yard and not out in the wild blue. Sending positive thoughts to you both as you work to "heal" Teulu and Becka works to heal herself 💙💙🤗🤗
I’ve seen others do the same project Zach and have to say they had many more problems separating the plexiglass from the frame. Perhaps the sealing compound adhesive used wasn’t the best product and failing causing the leaks. Pretty certain you will have solved the window leaks now.
Oh no! Get better quickly Bekka! Zach- you are a beast when it comes to working on that boat! Be smart, take your time and do it right the first time. The most important tool you have is patience. Ah! The joys of owning an old boat! Take care, be well and all the best from California! 🧡
All the things you do fixing Teulu turn her from your boat to YOUR boat. Love watching boat fixy videos thanks! Hope Becka is healing up and you are both well and happy.
Well as an untrained observer Zach, I think you did a great job. With 30 inches of rain in 10 days you would find flaws in your work pretty quickly. And you remembered to film while Becka was gone. Good job there also. I know Becka is back now, and I look forward to more info on her injury. As always, you are in my prayers. Stay safe. ❤🙏
Probably a lot of conflicting advice when it comes to boat jobs but I love butyl tape for sealing hatches and windows. Easy to use, always stays flexible, easy to trim and never had a leak yet. Anyways, cracking job, nicely done
I started my Sailing adventure on a Cal 27 which needed some work. I also had to remove all windows, and the two hatches the boat had because they all leaked a bit. Thankfully I had help making the repairs but it was certainly worth the cost and effort. Zach I am amazed at how quickly completed the window project, you the man!!So sorry to her about Becka's knee injury, we will be praying for her speedy and complete recovery!
I hope Becka is back to 100% in no time at all! And I love these boat repair videos. It always takes me longer to do boat jobs than I think it will too! Thanks for sharing this!
The portable air conditioner pulls heat out of the air and sends it overboard through the accordion-style hose. The problem is that some of that heat radiates through the plastic hose back into your saloon. You might consider wrapping a blanket or some sort of insulation around the hose to mitigate the effect so as to keep your boat cooler.
@@TeuluTribe Of course, the closer you can position the machine to the hole in the plywood washboard the shorter you can make the hose; and the shorter you can make the hose the less heat is liable to radiate back into the saloon. Good luck.
Get well soon Becka (and Teulu!). Great workmanship on those windows as ever Zach! Glad Parker came over to help you when you were putting the window back in, I was thinking you were going to miss Becka as a pair of hands when you were putting the window back on!
Good to see you in port for a well earned “rest”! Zach your can do attitude is inspirational…thanks for sharing. Becca, get fit soon! Look forward to seeing Teulu fix up over the next few months. Stay positive! 😊
@24:27 There are handles available for those stanley blades in which the blade is set in a suitable angle and perpendicular to the handle. Makes your life so much easier...👴😉 @26:28 The way I used to do this is to put a tiny nylon washers on every bolt. This secures the perfect even space for the caulking to seal perfectly, and you can properly fasten the bolts. Never had one leak in windows or hatches. (if nylon is not available, small stainless washer can do too)👴😉 @27:50 Getting the glued windows out safe is a challenge. The foam allowed you to do it the way you did. But...👴😨 I did this by pushing a braided dyneema fishing line through to the inside with the smallest putty knife. Then you can safely "saw" through the caulking(glue). Downside (for you, now) is that two people are required...👴😉
Mate, you should get some beutal tape, i barely use 5200 or alike anymore. Cleaner and easier to use, easy to store and cheap. Works great for sealing and it's not permanent. Episode was really good!
Very fortunate that the dislocation did not happen at sea. Looks like you will have plenty to do. I presume Becka will read the comments in the UK. As with many others my kindest regards to her.
Fortunately for you guys all the leaks are coming in from the top side ( and not the bottom - below the water line 🙀/ 😸😺) Sad to hear about your knee Mrs Becka - get well soon 👍🙏😸😺
something that may make your window job somewhat easier next time...before taking your windows out nail a couple of brads under the per-specs and one brad either left or right side of the window so u can sit the window on them when its time to reinstall , they will take the weight and Aline it for you. once you have your screws back in pull the nails out and the bead will cover the small nail holes.....happy days
Praying for Becca's speedy recovery ,knee injuries can take a long time to recuperate but she is young and healthy so i know she will do fine .Nothing can stop that girl.
It is ironic but people with boats tend to love being on the water but spend a lot of time, effort and money keeping water out. Well done guys. I hope it works well for the wet season. Good luck.
Oh man y'all are having a real time of it! Prayers for easy repairs, quick healing, and some real Mexican fun! All work and healing and no good times = a real shite time! You both have the the best vibes and deserve a break! A real break where shite falls (oozes)into place! Really you do! Nothing worse than an injury when shite needs done! But please Becka take this seriously! I didn't take an injury seriously and now have scholiosis! I'm still saving for my sail boat and try to strengthen enough to sail. Beautiful people you both are! I'm currently trying to get hands on learning but hard when most won't give an old crooked girl a chance! I Hope to meet you both one day!
Thank you for your thoughtful words! We really appreciate the support and positivity. Healing takes time, but we're looking forward to some joyful moments ahead! Hopefully our paths will cross in an anchorage one day 😊
Wow Zack, you're nothing short of super human... After the first window, how did you mentally start taking out the screws on the second one???? Incredible work ethic. I've started jobs, and my classic car, realized it's a massive pain, and died inside... Good work
Looks like you did your research. I hope you came across the fact that not all Sika or other sealants are compatible with acrylic windows. Overtime, the acrylic weakens due to chemicals in some sealants. Therefore, be sure to use the right stuff. May be why your windows failed if the previous owners did use the right stuff. Hoping Becka comes home to a nice dry boat.
Rebedding all those hatches properly was a huge job. You were lucky that the last time that was done was quite recently as the perspex was so clear and flexible. I kept waiting for that hideous crack when the whole thing shatters and you then have to replace them all.
As the owner of a similar age boat, I can sympathise with your issues, but I have never attempted to take her across an ocean for an extended period! You two have done remarkably work on Teulu since you’ve had her and the TLC phase over the coming months will further enhance your adventure! You two bloody doing it still !
Sounds like Becka and the boat are both past their best by days, trade 'em both in for newer models or fix 'em up and keep 'em running. Cheaper to keep 'er i always say. Just kidding around, god bless guys and get well soon. PS. I have a 12k BTU mini split on my 36' sail boat and works like a charm, cheap to buy in Mexico too. Best.
Wow, Zach! I can't imagine finding the will to do such a big job ALONE, much less the wherewithal. You're awesome! I hope Becka better and is back home soon. Be well. ❤
I used a portable A/C similar to the one you have, only bigger. I had to solve all kinds of problems to get it to work right. It seems the outlet pipe put off so much heat, it canceled out the cool air, so I used one of those reflective windshield shades to wrap around the outlet pipe. But it did cool very well when I got through. Hope you're getting better Becka.
Great job. Also with the mozzies! Got dengue twice, no fun. Are you going to put copper coat on? Just did my second boat with it and it works wonders. And not toxic to marine life so you don’t poison the oceans as you do with anti-fouling paint. Keep up the good vibes, hope Becka is back on her legs soon! ❤️🙏
Very nice video,, you accomplished a lot.. wishing Becca a fast and complete healing on her knee.. and hope it turned out not to be too serious roar will be chronic for her life, ❤ thank you always for your videos.
Hate to hear about Becka, hope she heals soon. It would be interesting to hear why she chose to go back to the UK for repairs. I’m assuming it’s an insurance thing. But that’s a great segway into health insurance for cruisers. Would love to hear what you know and why you chose (assuming options were available) what you did, without getting too personal. Mainly so us future cruisers will be better prepared once we toss the lines. Zack, you killing it with the port lights. One or two a day has been about all I could accomplish. Cleaning the “goo” always seems to take way longer than it should. What seems like should take an hour turns into 4 or 5 really quick.
Dearest Becka and Zach: You can use your boom as a ridge pole and make a tent that can be secured over the Deck Saloon that will keep the water from coming into the leaks around the windows and doorways. If done correctly, youcan still have ingress and egress without difficulty. then open it up when the weather clear so that it can dry out and when dry fill the leaky spot with silicon jell caulking until you can do the job correctly by taking the windiws out ad re bedding them with proper sealing compound.
Zac if at anytime you get frustrated with those boat jobs just know there are so so many of us that would give a leg to be doing what you’re both doing now…. Thanks for the vids and feel better Becs.
Welcome to mexico i hope your time here is full of those things you need. Help is here, finding what you need can be exciting to find. What how to help our economy is when sailers tell many people how inexpensive everthing is. We do appreciate your visiting mexico, stay til iþ is time. Leave full of great food and cared for by most...bendiciones...m😊
What you have accomplished so far is amazing with a 40 year old sailboat. A boat is a hole in the water through which you pour money. I hope that you can solve the problem temporarily and keep on going on your adventure.
Congratulations on arriving In Mexico. Becka you and Zack look really fresh and happy. Now for the maintenance which you have to do. Whilst writing this you tell us that Becka has discolated her leg whilst cleaning. Hope she comes home soon. Alex 😂
Please get well soon Becka! Just wanted to say that there are mobile ACs with TWO tubes, one to suck Air from the outside and one to get rid of the hot air. Yeah, you would have to find a place for the second tube, BUT you would eliminate the mosquito jet stream comming in, and you wouln'd suck moisture thru every little crack. Maybe put a light filter over the inlet pipe so you wont end up with an AC full of mosquitos. I love your videos, you are living my dream that I would never be able to live.
Thank you for the thoughtful suggestion! We'll have a look into that 😊 Glad you are enjoying the videos. We can't wait to show you what we will be up to next year!
The other issue is a drain tube that can be led to a sink for when you're not aboard .... dehumidifers usually get stood near a sink and allowed to drain into it.
I am always amazed at how much boat owners learn to repair independently. It would certainly been easier if Becka had been there to give you emotional and mental support. I certainly hope she recovers quickly and with as little pain as possible.
Dont know if it will be addressed later in the vid, but if it were me in regards to the aircond draft, i would install a small winder or vent somewhere which has a flyscreen mesh to stop bugs. My wife and I did bus life and getting a portable aircond was life changing!!
Hopefully Becka heals up and recovers fully, It will take time though..., so in the first months there will no "we'rebloodydoingit" for her I'm afraid! Get well proper, so you can live your life to the fullest!👴☺🤗
Hey Guys I’m not sure if you have ever heard of toffee wheels/ decal remover wheel .They are excellent for removing old sealant and glue without damaging the surface underneath . You attach them to a drill and it works very quickly. It’s a rubber wheel they are used in car body shops . Great job on the windows . I love working on my own boat it’s a labour of love that comes with owning a boat .and I can see that you guys love working on Teulu . Being following since yous left UK .😊
Hope Bekka. Is ok hope she’s gets well soon . Please inspect your stays on the mast . Saw a few people who lost them mast from corrosion where it cannot be seen. Tefgell is the simple solution.evidently their stay ripped apart from corrosion at the bottoms of the stay. Stay safe ! Love your videos!
So sorry to hear about the knee. Hope everything comes out okay. To cover those windows some mosquitoes don't get in, Get a piece of plastic screen and glue with silicone some rope/line To the edges and it will lay down flat
Speedy recovery, Becka! Don't slack off on your "at home" exercises, okay? I get that they're simply the _worst,_ but with knees _especially,_ they make such a huge difference in the end! Hey, Zach! Don't forget to take care of yourself, too!
Sail boats need constant maintenance , the harder and further you sail them the more attention they demand if you want a sound vessel! Lay up is a special process all to it’s self as is re commissioning. Sorry about your knee, best wishes and prayers for complete and quick healing! Nice job on the windows and yes the old sealant looks to have lost its elasticity so not surprising you have small leaks, boats flex and if the mastic joints don’t flex they eventually leak .
Hey y’all, you can modify your AC, as somebody said with 2 tubes. Just get another tube, where the AC sucks the air put some cardboard and tape plug in that tube and done. Or better if you find someone with an 3d printer (might be an purchase that is worth for you 2 for the most little parts) print an adapter. Then it will be much more efficient and no stingy buggers. You can propably find a couple tutorials on UA-cam on how to modify!
If you had put a protective strip on the glass. Once the adhesion is complete, you can clean it easily. I have a hard time applying a straight line in my hand. a piece of it with a reference holder. You're very determined, though. I commend you.
Zach: Get Acetone if your windows are glass. If not you might use WD40 but then make sure you use a detergent cleaner on the glass to remove the oily film so the calking will stick.
Unfortunately the perks of owning a boat there is an endless list of things to do and fix. Zack it looks like you are doing a great job on the windows I'm sure they will be sealed for another 10 years. :D I am a Sucker for a good boat project video, and looking at the list for the Hurricane season 2024 I think I'm going to enjoy the upcoming videos even more p.s. I love your videos now as well :D You both inspire me to buy a boat to live on and sail the UK. True Inspiration Thank you!
Hi Guys, possibly may I make a suggestion to heavily reduce the Bug numbers, firstly decide where this AC / dehumidifiar unit is going to be located. Then ensure you create an exclusive Air inlet for the AC/DH from outside the hull, that way you are creating a positive Air Pressure inside the boat, so the little b.......s are blown out and not sucked in. On your Air inlet fit a cone shaped inlet filter (suggest a Stocking or pantyhose (that's what we used) suggest 12 to 14inch long with a 5inch dia hose to the AC/DH unit. you can get most of the bits from HD. BR Peter (UK)

Best.
Geet a large tarp and make a tent over the hole boat, Get better soon
Wow, Zach! I can't imagine finding the will to do such a big job ALONE, much less the wherewithal. You're awesome! I hope Becka better and is back home soon. Be well. ❤
And then the real test when you check it for leaks ! lots of work good job !
Thanks for sharing another (well sealed) window on your world 😂.
I hope Becka doesn't kneed any special treatment and feels better 😅.
That's awful 😅
@TeuluTribe if it made you smile it was worth it 😁
Great video, fixing leaks the right way and figuring out these new issues. sorry about your knee.
Thanks for the support! I'm on my way to recovery.
Nice work on the airflow...Watch-out Zach and Parker are unsupervised.
I hope you checked the wood where the leaks were for rot😮
Thankfully there was no rot!
Zach you can use Orange Oil to remove most adhesives.
100 % the best 3M adhesive wheel remover. Wish everyone knew about this stuff first.
Totally get that, we do absolutely love what we get to do 😊 Cheers!
Well done, thinking outside the square to solve problems always works, keep it up 👍
What you have accomplished so far is amazing with a 40 year old sailboat.
Acetone will clean the metal parts really well and then just rinse and dry before reubstalling
Thank you for your concern! We’re definitely keeping an eye on everything 😊 Cheers.
Peurto Angel and Escondido have nice surf breaks.
Thanks for the suggestions 🙏
If you can configure the A/C so that it pressurizes the cabin, then there would be fewer bugs and fewer water leaks. Just a suggestion.
Dislocated knee! Oh how awful. Sorry to hear this - get well quickly.
Vinegar and baking Yeast inside a soda bottle with a restricted opening works like a charm
To remove the sticky residue? Baking soda?
Thanks for the tip. That would have made it easier! Cheers😊
Zach: Get Acetone if your windows are glass. If not you might use WD40 but then make sure you use a detergent cleaner on the glass to remove the oily film so the calking will stick.
All those months at sea and injures herself in the off-season. Good timing :)
You mean A/C needs two vents :) with fly screens.
It might be time to think about a newer boat. Good luck with your repairs and happy sailing.
Unfortunately the perks of owning a boat there is an endless list of things to do and fix. Zack it looks like you are doing a great job on the windows I'm sure they will be sealed for another 10 years. :D
I am a Sucker for a good boat project video, and looking at the list for the Hurricane season 2024 I think I'm going to enjoy the upcoming videos even more p.s. I love your videos now as well :D
You both inspire me to buy a boat to live on and sail the UK. True Inspiration Thank you!
There is always something. Well lucky for you we have plent of big projects coming your way! Thank you, we love hearing that😍 Becka is on the mend!
@@TeuluTribe Glad to hear Becka's on the mend, Also really looking forward to it :D
Wow! Well done! I hope youre dear wife knee is ok too! that is just monumental! they work you have done!! Bravo! 😉👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
Hope Rebecca gets better soon
She's well on her way to recovering, thanks!
So chill, love the energy in this vid!
Eucalyptus oil is great for getting gooey stuff off!! It won't damage the acrylic either!
