Welcome to our new content. As the Weapon Detective, we are investigating modern weapon systems of the Second Cold War. The Weapon Legends is about older weapon systems. In our videos, we tell their epic stories which made them a legend. The Weapon Legends investigates these stories, reads between the lines, analyse, and tells the untold. In our videos, you can find technical information as well as historical backgrounds, what happened during the development processes, combat experience and political projection. Let the wisdom of history show us what the future would be like. Let’s investigate the veteran weapons of the past together.

Do you think Nexter, Thales and Renault trucks didn't want to go through with the concept as it would have taken sales away from the EBRC Jaguar if the T40 was fitted to the AMX-10 RC? I am not sure if this tank is the ideal choice for the type of terrain and the type of opposing force they are going to meet in Ukraine, but helping the people of Ukraine with their fight for freedom and their very existence is probably the most noble task these proven warriors can be assigned to. And there is no doubt the Ukrainians will quickly figure out how to bring them to maximum use.
Even more important from my German viewers perspective, France steps up and provides a type of equipment that no other country yet dared to give to Ukraine. I hope this is the bridge that the weak government of my country needs to follow with providing our armored equipment as well. Congrats, it's a strong and important move by France.

You talked about the terrain, Ukraine is gonna receive the light version of it that can cross river etc... I think that's a very good choice for this terrain, in order to support infantry assault like we saw since few month. Surprise attack & shit.
Btw, its enough powerfull to face & anihilate a t72. Mobile utilisation will be the key with this vehicule

The design concept makes a lot of sense for long term desert use as the maintenance would be much easier than a tank and the vehicle has a much better range than a tank which is also a plus for desert use. I also think six large wheels are better than eight that has become common both for simplicity and functionality. Also it just looks right, no wonder it was in service for so long.

A unique vehicle and still well suited for today's geopolitical landscape. It's a bit of a pity it never received a proper name, whereas the Sagaie and Leclerc did. As I've seen them in Corsica training alongside Legionaires of the 2me REP, and they are fast, agile and seem to be capable of appearing seemingly out of nowhere, I've always thought that "Napoleon" would have been an appropriate name for them as Napolean Bonaparte was born in Cortes on Corsica and in his earlier campaigns known for the element of surprise and swift, decisive actions.

    • @Pincer88
      @Pincer88 Рік тому +6

Thank you for clearing that up. And you are probably right.
      Warning: word salad following!
You refer to - I presume - Petain (Vichy-France) for example or maybe even to De Gaulle? And I presume Leclerc, the liberator of Paris was a less controversial figure in that respect?
As to cancel culture, I'm not involved in either that or alt-right activism (though the wolf and 88 may give rise to think otherwise). I think the extremes in political life are too prominent due to press and social media, who make a fortune by exaggerating and fueling social division.
Other than that I cannot imagine resentment, anger and hate ever having contributed anything good, but at times I can - to a certain degree - understand frustrations on both sides. Sadly it at times turns into a shouting match.
I served with the infantry (we were the wolves company and I served in 1988-1989, hence my avatar) alongside comrades of all possible colors, faiths, convictions and yes genders. The only thing that really counted was being regarded as someone the other could entrust their life with and standing together in whatever difficulty we faced. Not out of some sort of cadaver discipline (good luck applying that to rebellious Dutch youngsters) but out of a deeply felt kinship.
And truly, I miss that. People supporting each other, a sense of community, regardless of differences. That is the only modus that will help us overcome the greatest of challenges.
So yes, time to tune down many a scale and replace the staccato with a comfortable legato. And not equate everything with cancel culture (or the polar opposite.)
The uniqueness of the military draft (dienstplicht) was in putting a diverse group of boys (and a few girls who served voluntarily) into a situation that only rewarded spontaneous cooperation and teamwork. And we got to meet guys we normally would never encounter, while forging an unbreakable bond. And no, it wasn't all cumbaya, but after three or four months... Never seen integration (not assimilation) running smoother anywhere else. Under pressure most matters tend to become fluid. And that's when friendships spring into existence.
A few months and we'll be having our 7th reunion. Imagine that, a company that has stuck together after almost 34 years. Moroccans/Berbers, Turks, one Italian, three from the Dutch Antilles, eight from Surinam, guys from the North, South, big city guys and those from the countryside, some with a university degree and some barely having finished high school, a few gay, two lesbians, twelve muslims, some christians and lots of atheists and an old Iron Maiden geek said I, the idiot, slapping each other on the shoulder, sharing fond memories and corny jokes. And everyone feeling an anachronism, just like Stefan Zweig in "Der Welt von Gestern."
Progress it appears is not always improvement. I toast to that.
      Cheers/Proost!

The Jaguar can basically threaten any light armour the enemy has and some older-gen MBTs. It also has a ATGM if it actually had to engage with a tank. But by and large the French were thinking to use this for counter-insurgency duties, not tank slaying.

Its not meant to engage MBT, thats not its goal and thats no issue. People forget the principles of combined arms. Even MBT vs MBT battles are not a general doctrine, in most cases that would be the exception or a bad tactic to rely on. Thats more about ego then military common sense.
In Ukraine, it would be a good and vital support vehicle for experienced combat units in rapid movements, exploiting weak spots with speed and flexibility.
There will be situations with badly positioned, unprepared, demoralized or ill-trained and green russian units and troops. This light tank can take advantage of such opportunities and cause serious damage, also pursue and overtake fast retreating russian units, having more firepower then other fast light vehicles.

I liked the video, however, France is also equipped against 'heavier' powers, we have also MBT and of course ... nuclear nukes.
The main difference with our European counterparts we need a military projection force too, that needs also speed, and easy (by plane) to deploy asset in almost all around the world. Not because to do evil things, but because we have so many territories all around the globe.
Moreover, speed is also an asset. We can see it again in Ukraine in a modern conflict with UA swarming RU defences in the Est.
Now, those Light tanks will probably do their last battles in UA, and we will see how they will perform in a high intensity battle, as it seems that for some, the exceptional perf of the French was almost a 'cheat' because we were too fast. I am pretty sure UA will do a good usage of them.

Interesting video and I believe that the tank destroyer version of this type of vehicle will be what the British army go with. Reasons:
The nearest threat in our Nato role is Russia and the Baltic states. To get there we will have to drive a long way - wheels v tracks- wheels win.
A tank destroyer version is a great defensive weapon.
It's cheap and easy to maintain
Intervention in the new age of Brexit will take the form of our version of the Powell doctrine
The new 'defensive' plan for UK forces is to commit to NATO and to defend resources in Africa and the Far East - (a bit like WW2 and defending Australia with a line drawn above Borneo)
In Africa, this vehicle has proved its worth because of the distances that have to be travelled. All of the world's landmass fits into Africa - it's huge.
We will deploy a vehicle like this to Kenya and maybe Tanzania as support for our troops. Like the French have in Chad.
    Just some random thoughts
