This analysis is as exceptional as is Geoff's creation. Angie's input allows a comparison of perspectives and insights. It's almost like the tone of the song; it can never settle on one interpretation and Geoff's character can never fully resolve. Brilliant! Please bring Angie on for additional videos. While I don't have any musical background, the back and forth discussion informs my listening and viewing appreciation. I agree that Geoff's creation here is one of the most subtly intricate pieces out there. It's a gem which most of the world unfortunately will never experience.
When Geoff released this, that's when I found out that he can act. It's so beautifully sad, and he reflects that in his voice, but also in his movements and facial expressions. That final part in the kitchen, is amazing! Geoff's new one is Marty Robbins' Big Iron. He did a short several months ago, then decided to do the full version beginning where the short left off. Harmonies on it are amazing. Also, he wrote original music and lyrics for it.
Thank you both for helping me understand more about why I love this song so much! It's always stuck out to me as one of my favorite arrangements of his, and a lot of the information you shared certainly enriched my perspective!
I love when you and Angie get to nerd out over Geoff's music, because I love to do that as well. Keep bringing her on as often as possible, and keep up the amazing analysis; articulate or not, I'm here for it every time! 😊
I've got a day on my own when my mind is too frazzled to work or do anything creative, so why not spend the best part of two hours listening to you two analysing a Geoff performance I love? No reason at all. Really enjoyed that, thanks both!
This is absolutely one of my top 5 Geoff songs. Thank you for the indulgent reaction where I get to savor this arrangement and performance the way it deserves. Thanks to you and Angie
Another lovely discussion about one of my favorite melancholy Geoff songs. (He does forlorn so very well.) I don't hear "and"s in the repetition section. I hear intentional stutters of "I kn-know", as though the narrative voice is stumbling over his own conflicted thoughts. Interesting how that sort of small thing can color each listener's perceptions.
i always felt that the original song was rather too bouncy for the theme of the song but Geoff has given it so much angst and passion. it's a whole new thing. But that's what he does. And he upped the number of "I know"s to even more. That "being all over the place" is just brilliant. It's how you feel in those circumstances.
Thanks to both for some interesting insights! While I do sing, I never got the kind of musical education to understand some of what you’ve discussed. So a really enlightening discussion for me. I’m generally right in there with visual discussions (spent my working life in advertising), but I learned a lot about that today, too! Side note: try to remember what you said about conductors and wizards when you get to VoicePlay’s “Classical Chaos” - hint: music as magic!
I didn't realize it was filmed at Casa Feliz!! One of my best friends got married there :) it's beautiful 😍 . Now I have no clue how I missed that fact. Loved this analysis and breakdown
Thanks taking your time on this one - one of my fave Geoff covers. My own pet theory is the “she” may refer to his wife’s hearing… hence the ticking of inevitable loss and the breaks in the notes, the static and distortion being typical symptoms of hearing deterioration.
From a "dinosaurus", most people gather this is about a woman, but if I recall correctly, Bill said it was the two drunks talking about missing the drink when they try to kick off, and the I know is aboout everyone telling them to just stop drinking and them not being able to.

Bahahaha that outtake 🤭
Thanks for having me for this analysis - you know how happy it makes me to ramble on and on about music and chords and such!
Loved the outtake. lol
Delighted to see you react to this, some seem to miss a lot of the complexity. I adore this cover, it's exquisite.

And now, you really must check out Voiceplay's latest - "Classical Chaos" with Rachel Potter. Great music and great storytelling.

I love it when you two get together to do an analysis! You both bring amazing things to the table. Oh, and that outtake at the end was perfection!

Love the way you always enjoy the music, creativity, and bring so much to the fore that I would otherwise have missed.😀

Love your combo videos with Angie! Looking forward to your next colab!
Pretty close: 7-43 pm. When I saw the thumbnail, I knew I was about to watch you get your mind blown.
Was about to head to bed but just saw this notification. Good thing its a Friday evening. Really loking forward to this.

Long, but loaded with goodies. Great discussion! Geoff's arrangement was outstanding!
What Geoff did with it? He fixed it. The original was too peppy for the words. This is a masterpiece
Thanks to both of you for this R&A.
Thanks David 😊
Hey Angie! Thank you for being one of the tippy top $ supporters for Geoff. Guessing you are probably a top supporter for VoicePlay.
VoicePlay has released brand new video this morning.
Another great analysis ❤❤❤❤❤

This is the video that introduced me to Geoff 2 years ago.
a word I don't think either of you use but encapsulates the piece is melancholy.
The sunshine that's missing is the girl.
