That section in the kitchen leaves me in bits every time. I feel the pain he's expressing in this song. The variation in the I know reflected all the highs and lows experienced in what was a dysfunctional realtionship in the film that inspired this song. The original song is so upbeat and bouncy but Geoff has put his heart and soul into portraying the sorrow and pain.
What I grasped in this "cover" / rendition... it's the pain of anticipation of. Fear of the maybe future pain which hasn't even become the grief of IF ... it's absolutely wrenching ... he's the Greatest talent of "our" meaning this time. I wonder if he can write?
I love how the drop-down "throw-away" low notes feel like giving up, giving in to the depression. Kinda like "I just don't have the energy to do anything more."
This one convinced me that Geoff is a great actor. I mean, he's gotten in character in his solo and Voiceplay work, but this one is different. The sorrow, loneliness and angst are just heartbreaking, and he makes us believe that it's real. Thanx for your analysis and joy in reviewing this, I love to watch you!
There's something mesmerizing and beautiful about Geoff's rendition, and how he projects that dark/light feeling. It gives me chills and brings me to tears everytime-ime-ime I listen to it! 🤯😍. I love your reactions, keep up the great work, and thank you! 😍
I really love the way he uses his upper register in this-so smooth and velvety, even in his higher range. I think this is his best work to date in terms of showcasing both his vocal range and his range of techniques and styles. Are you sure those are glottal stops? It sounds to me like it was done in post. I’m glad you noticed that low note was dubbed as well. He CAN absolutely do that drop-we’ve seen it. But he wanted a certain sound, and it worked better to record it separately with the effects he wanted and dub it in. There are several passages were there’s more reverb and the mix is different, so this particular song was probably recorded several times, several different ways, and then pieced together to get this final product. It’s beautifully done-a tribute to Geoff’s skills in mixing and editing as well as arrangement and singing. Love how you get into the weeds in terms of his vocal technique. Another terrific reaction!!
I found my way here through some insomnia-related surfing tonight, and I'm as impressed with you as I am with the music that brought me here. I sang for years from childhood to adulthood. Something changed for me, or I lost something...my passion or confidence or...I'm honestly not entirely sure. In any case, I stopped singing outside of occasional moments while working alone or driving. Hopefully you understand and receive it as praise when I say that there is something about your passion and the fun you have and style of commenting/teaching that makes me really miss those days and wish I could get back or fix whatever it was that caused me to give it up. I can't say that your videos will have me instantly singing again, but you've managed to somehow remind me of what I used to love in a way that others have not in a long time, and thank-you for triggering that memory and those feelings for me.
The imagery of Geoff in a chair in an empty room is juxtaposed against the light streaming through the windows against the words "aint' no sunshine", so you see light while he feels dark and emptiness. It's very thoughtful, if rather obvious while being effective in giving the song the right kind of visual feel to enhance the vocals and bluesy feel.
We have been waiting for some of our favorite UA-cam reactors to begin to react to this one. This version so remind you of the literal slapped in the face moment when you realize that particular person isn't there, all the anguish and pain hit you like a bullet but it doesn't leave a mark on the body that is something that leaves the mark on the mind
Taking into consideration how emotional I got when I first saw this video from Geoff, it feels very appropriate that your video is sponsored by BetterHelp. Geoff really knows how to convey emotions through his singing and for me it really hits hard in this cover, so I'm glad to get your reaction and analysis so my brain also has a chance to follow along.
Great analysing as always. Also thanks for being open with us. if you ever need a break, I'd prefer that you are mentally stable rather than you getting stressed about always posting videos on time. But if doing this kind of thing helps relieve stress for you, then I look forward to seeing as many reaction/analysis's as you want to do.
Thank you so much!! I really enjoy what i’m doing here, some times I do put a lot of pressure on myself, but it’s finding time for myself that helps! Thank you 😊
As I said on another video reacting to this piece: As someone living with depression and who has been through deep grief, that to me is what this song represents. Sometimes on the most beautiful days I cannot muster the energy and strength to pull myself out of the doldrums. The sunshine itself seems to dim and doesn't even register to me. "I know I know I know..." Especially repetitive like that... he knows he should be doing something, self care, chores etc, but cant. He seems to be arguing with the voices in his head, and or falling prey to the insidious whispers of his thoughts "its your fault she left, she's never coming home" etc etc.
Love this Bill Withers classic and Geoff’s arrangement is unique with unexpected moments. His range is crazy! Enjoyed your reaction, as usual. ❤️ Great sponsor today! Mental health is just as important as physical health. So thankful there are more open conversations about this these days, as well as tools like betterhelp.
I love how technical your comments get. You’ve mentioned Geoff’s slides a few times. What if I were to tell you that you ain’t heard him really slide yet? 😏 Voiceplay. Hoist The Colors. Starting at about the three minute mark. He starts deep and ends up blending with the tenors. Also notable in this track is Eli’s pure power, and Cesar killing it in a higher range as well. More subtle is Layne in the background down in the basement with Geoff on the baseline. It’s just an awesome track, IMO.
Hoist the Colors is fantastic. But I'll have to say the best slide from Geoff is from the Little Mermaid Medley :) Hope to see you check it out one day it will be one of the best journey ever.
Yes! Jennifer, you really need to react to Hoist the Colors, and the Little Mermaid Medley, both from VoicePlay. Geoff as Ursula singing Poor Unfortunate Souls is NOT to be missed. Both videos have awesome slides from Geoff. He arranged Colors, and Layne arranged Little Mermaid. Charismatic Voice just released her cover of Poor Unfortunate Souls, and now I need dueling Ursulas -- Geoff and Elizabeth.
An excellent cover by Geoff. And a most excellent reaction as always by you! I really enjoyed how he completely changed the feel of the song. Thank you again Jen. Love your reactions and looking forward to the next one!
I was hoping that you would do a reaction to this. I get so distracted by the acting in this video that I tend to just enjoy what he’s doing instead of trying to figure out how he does it. In any case, it is probably the most complex arrangement he’s done. The layering, the editing effects, and the ending which I really enjoyed. Usually he goes out with a lot of emphasis, but on this one he just sort of just sighed away which really goes with the lyrics.
Thank you Ms. Glatzhofer for taking a moment to connect with your viewers. That's very kind of you and incredibly strong to share your feelings openly. We need to do more of that and more supporting each other instead of the rampant bullying and tearing people down on the internet, good for you miss!! love your incredible channel and always appreciate your talent and unique observations. Looking forward to much more of your content.
Jennifer, just wait until Geoff releases the next one! 180 degrees in everything but singing talent, that is always spot on. Very uptempo, goofy, happy. Once it hits UA-cam, I predict it will become his most viewed solo video.
I always enjoy your VoicePlay and Geoff reactions/analyses, thanks for this! I love Geoff’s version of this (I really like the original too)! Do you mean that we don’t need to request any of VP’s and Geoff’s new releases because you plan to do them all anyway? That sounds lovely to me! 😁
It may just be that I'm a little sick, but after listening to this song I managed to sing an A1. Normally I can't sing lower than a D2. I like to think I'm channeling the spirit of Geoff Castelluci.
"Singing teacher cap on" loved that lol Please wear it all the time! We are here for all those tidbits and analyses. :) You don't really need any excuse to elaborate on techniques!
Jennifer, loving your reactions. I keep looking for new ones. If you are looking for your next VoicePlay reaction you should look at We're Good with Adriana Arellano. It is one of my all time favorite from them. Keep the excellent content coming! :)
Hi, I appreciate your analyses and often you spot a detail that I had not paid attention to. In addition, you do not hesitate to go back several to show an element. See you soon.
Other covers that showcase Geoff's range are The Beatles' Blackbird, John Denver's Country Roads, Take Me Home (BGVs especially), and Radiohead's High and Dry. Thank you for all the vocal technique information and tips! Keep on keepin' on!
The only thing, that could be possibly better, than Geoff Castelucci singing, Ain't no sunshine when she's gone, is 4 Geoff Castelucci's singing Ain't no sunshine, when she's gone 😍
😀 The resonance on the base etc is soothing. He looks rather good visually 😉😂 but he is so definite & all in there is passion & at the same time measured control. 👏👏😀 Great discussion. His video and vocals fit so well together. Masterful. It's a cacophony of resonant domed harmony & base mastery. The hums woe 😀👏
Man, the choice of sponsor for this video is so apropos for this song. The narrator of that song could really use some of that Better Help therapy or maybe some crisis counselling.
I think everyone has good and bad days, though not all of us have the space (or in some cases self-awareness) to admit it. Hopefully Geoff was something of a tonic - take care of yourself!
Just heard Pentatonix and Ateez's cover Need a little Space. Really fun and upbeat. Music really helps with my mental health. Remember to just breathe through it and know you are not alone
I personally love Violet Orlandi’s cover of this song with the Melodicka bros. If you want to check her out, search “Ain’t No Sunshine (But It’s Goth)”.
The drop he does is all him and very little, if any, editing. A good warmed up bass like him can easily make that drop. Plus, Geoff has 2 versions of subharmomics which he can use seamlessly
I like most of Geoff's videos but to be honest, this is good but not one of my favorites but that's OK because you are! Don't give up on those low note attempts. I have faith in my up and coming low bass singer! :)

Geoff sings this every time Kathy goes shopping.
😂
I love how the drop-down "throw-away" low notes feel like giving up, giving in to the depression. Kinda like "I just don't have the energy to do anything more."
I've decided after many times listening to it, that this is a shiver in the form of a song.
Jen, I love the way you fan girl over Geoff, I'm no longer surprised at how you turn in to a puddle of emotions by the time he's finished
There's something mesmerizing and beautiful about Geoff's rendition, and how he projects that dark/light feeling. It gives me chills and brings me to tears everytime-ime-ime I listen to it! 🤯😍.
I love your reactions, keep up the great work, and thank you! 😍
This version of the song is so haunting. And his acting is on point, just like his singing. Loved the analysis. Keep it up and have fun!
I really love the way he uses his upper register in this-so smooth and velvety, even in his higher range. I think this is his best work to date in terms of showcasing both his vocal range and his range of techniques and styles.

If I had to guess, I would say he used Melodyne to alter the timing on those, to make them more... stop-y? 🤔

Love when you try to hit those insane Geoff low notes. Very entertaining.

Thank you so much for talking about not having good days sometimes, made me feel not so alone 😊

When Geoff does that release and slide down into a slight vocal fry, another reactor calls it the "Dragon Breath."
Love this Bill Withers classic and Geoff’s arrangement is unique with unexpected moments. His range is crazy! Enjoyed your reaction, as usual. ❤️
Great sponsor today! Mental health is just as important as physical health. So thankful there are more open conversations about this these days, as well as tools like betterhelp.
Definitely!! Thank you 😊 and I know, I was really happy they reached out as it’s so important!
I love how technical your comments get.

Hoist the Colors is fantastic. But I'll have to say the best slide from Geoff is from the Little Mermaid Medley :) Hope to see you check it out one day it will be one of the best journey ever.
One of my favorites
Has she done the Little Mermaid Medley yet? He has an incredible slide/scream in that one too

I just want to say you’ve quickly became my favorite person that reacts to my fav group/singers. Keep it up 😁
Ah thank you!
I agree! Everytime Voiceplay or Geoff puts out a song I get excited cause I know Jennifer will react to it
I live for Jen's reactions.....her giggles....and her "bass." 🙂
An excellent cover by Geoff. And a most excellent reaction as always by you! I really enjoyed how he completely changed the feel of the song. Thank you again Jen. Love your reactions and looking forward to the next one!
Yes definitely, brings so much more! Thank you 😊
Geoff's low notes never cease to amaze me.... He is like a bass singing God
Always!
Great reaction!! The end is different but it sounds so lonely 😭. Really love this one

Great in-depth analysis coupled with a lovely Geoff-induced sparkle in your review always makes for an enjoyable viewing experience.
Yay! Thanks 😁
Excellent reaction and analysis once again, thank you!
Thank you!
The crackling in the background was done on purpose to mimic the sound of a vinyl record being played. Love your reactions.🥰
"Singing teacher cap on" loved that lol
Please wear it all the time!
Thanks! 😁
My favorite from Geoff by far. He uses his impressive lows for drama, not just to be impressive!
I am so glad you are reacting to this one. I think it is a fantastic cover by Geoff
It really is!
Bravo, you are the a capella queen
Hi, I appreciate your analyses and often you spot a detail that I had not paid attention to.
In addition, you do not hesitate to go back several to show an element.
See you soon.

Other covers that showcase Geoff's range are The Beatles' Blackbird, John Denver's Country Roads, Take Me Home (BGVs especially), and Radiohead's High and Dry. Thank you for all the vocal technique information and tips! Keep on keepin' on!
The background sound you are hearing is the sound of a clock ticking, "every TIME she's gone away."
Hi Jennifer hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
As always, thank you! And yourself 😊
Always a great reaction/analysis from such a lovely lady. Loving what you do and how you see all of the little nuances.
Thank you!
Her face when she hears that opening is all of us who can appreciate a deep voice.
Geoff is such an underrated singer! I love how Geoff's vocal range from low to medium-low and then it drops down to super low. lol, I love it! 😃
I know right!!
Yay! I was waiting for this one by Geoff. He really poured his heart out to that dusty kitchen microwave. XD
The only thing, that could be possibly better, than Geoff Castelucci singing, Ain't no sunshine when she's gone, is 4 Geoff Castelucci's singing Ain't no sunshine, when she's gone 😍
You can always tell when Geoff is going to drop a low note. He has a certain arm/hand gesture he uses just before he drops the bomb.
Oh for sure ahah!
He does it evey time he goes for a subharmonic note. He just can't help it 😊
@@sarawlindgreen3115 He just follows his hand down. LOL
@@Broomrider1492 Exactly 😄
Alot of southern music was sung in the hills and it echoed giving the illusion of traveling to you
thanks for the reaction and analysis! (:

You definitely earned my sub today! first off for your endorsement !
I wonder what you have had to endure.
Geoff's range always surprises me.
Sempre più bella!!
The video where Geoff proves he is somehow a FULL ASSED tenor and FULL ASSED BASS simultaneously.
Man, the choice of sponsor for this video is so apropos for this song. The narrator of that song could really use some of that Better Help therapy or maybe some crisis counselling.
Check out Geoff's new solo in The Rains of Castamere. All I have to say is WOW.
7:04
I love your "bass." 😋😋😋😋😋
6:53 you can spot the exact moment (of many I presume XD) when her brain stops functioning for a hot second XD
not judging, makes mine stop too XD
nice Jennifer ...)
Have you reacted to his cover of blackbird and high and dry?
I think everyone has good and bad days, though not all of us have the space (or in some cases self-awareness) to admit it. Hopefully Geoff was something of a tonic - take care of yourself!
Oh for sure! Thank you 😊
U was drooling a lil bit😂😂😂
@6:45 ❤
Just heard Pentatonix and Ateez's cover Need a little Space. Really fun and upbeat. Music really helps with my mental health. Remember to just breathe through it and know you are not alone

Love your Bubbly personality.. an English Rose🌹in full bloom 💥
I realize im late but i heard the crackle you mentioned lol.
You should react to Geoff's cover of Radioheads "High and Dry".
I think you would enjoy that one.
And maybe the beatles cover of Blackbird.
Geoff said Bill Withers sang I Know 28 times.
2:56 for what literally every single person came fore
Could you react to Geoff's cover of High and Dry? 😀
Where do u live jennifer .
How can you go how low can you go?
He's using southern pronunciation in most of the lyrics. USA southern😘🤗🤣
I think you love jeff
The drop he does is all him and very little, if any, editing. A good warmed up bass like him can easily make that drop. Plus, Geoff has 2 versions of subharmomics which he can use seamlessly
Coldplay - Hypnotised (Official Lyric Video)
That change is a derivative of southern blues and gospel.
That was cute. You tryin to sound like Geoff there was like Jane tryin to learn to speak gorilla in the 1990's animated Disney's Tarzan.😋
React MANESKIN X NIRVANA X LINKIN PARK X AUDIOSLAVE X SYSTEM OF A DOWN X CREED (MASHUP)
My Theory on Geoff -> he has got 3 twins, because one man cant have that range
I like most of Geoff's videos but to be honest, this is good but not one of my favorites but that's OK because you are! Don't give up on those low note attempts. I have faith in my up and coming low bass singer! :)
That’s alright! And yes, gotta keep working on it ahah!
