- In the BEAT Invitational Season 4, team GOATs came out with a composition that no one had seen before. They dominated the tournament with this comp, and before we knew it, GOATs as a composition was dominating the pro overwatch scene for a year.
...but there was one team who challenged this meta, winning the hearts of thousands and finding success doing so. Let's talk about the Chengdu Hunters.

That stage 1 route 66 titans vs Chengdu was easily one of the best matches ever in ow history. Long live Ameng
I'm honestly super proud of what Hunters has done. They showed that the meta is just a suggestion at the end of the day, a very good one, but still a suggestion. Not to mention how they kept to their Chinese fans and basically had an all Chinese roster. This team is truly a team of ideals and I love it.

I'd say one of the most underrated players in the league. He consistently performed on so many different heroes like Dva, Sombra, and other heroes like Sym. The Hunters may not have done some of their comps without him

I think Chengdu has potential but just had a slow start but did well despite of everything.
Best team in the league. The one dude in the toyota commercial wisely said "the real MVP is the yottachad AMENG"
Half the reason Chengdu ended up being my favorite team was Ameng crushing on Hammond, but Jinmu's insane pop-offs helped too.
Probably one of the best videos you've ever made. I can tell the change in upload schedule's really got you motivated to make content again

Hunters were THE entertainers of the 2019 OWL. There were a lot of close matches, Shock's dismissive and insulting dominance (sit in spawn or get out of my server!) was entertaining and Shock-Titans rivalry was always nice to watch, but it was the Hunters who provided not only in-game consistency, but consistent fun. Not just underdogs, albino underdogs, they won me over by the time mid-season rolled in.

Grading based on final standing is low effort. Hunters had many unfortunate circumstances. 1. Bootcamp with silkthread n jiqiren, but they couldnt make it to the league. 2. Not having the best available chinese roster. 3. Have one of the highest strength of schedule, right behind valiant. 4. In a strong division, hunters record against atlantic teams is 9-1 record.
People power rank hunters last ish for good reasons, because they had many unfortunate situation. But the team worked hard together, no toxicity. Compare to hunters resource and situation, they are really an A+ in season 2.
I remeber that I was one of the few thousand people who was watching the beat invitational live and at the time I loved it, it was an amazing underdog story.

The hunters are a team I'd hear about in passing, but I never watched their games unless they were playing a good team I was interested in.

Great video! Still remember before season started every one was like: oh now we got a 0-28, what they beat Guangzhou? OK 1-27 then XD. And they just shut everyone up with action. And during mid season all these people become brainless fanboys lol. So many classic matches vs the big names like you said. Nyxl, London, Titans and shocks, thanks for making this video. Btw, Taiwan is a state of republic of China, so technically baconjack is also "chinese", for example in the Olympic Taiwan calls themself "Chinese Taipei". So in mainland China bacon is also a very popular and loved player. For yxl, he was a commentator for a really long time, and he is also the only pro Owler from commentator field( it's a inside joke from the Chinese commentator scene)
JSYK most of the world sees Taiwan as it's own country (as does Taiwan) so dividing, being an american, is not completely wrong in saying Baconjack is not chinese :)
@@Kronman590 Majority of Taiwanese people are ethnically Chinese, so it's completely ok to consider Chengdu has a full-Chinese roster.

Also I believe rui( pronounce as ray) had plan to play goats, but jiqiren as a rein main can't make it during the visa issue. Fortunately rui is good at spotting each players strength for what they can do and customize the team comp, and that results for the hunters we love. Btw I don't think you have mentioned elsa, who plays Dva, torb, sombra, sym etc, basically whoever was needed he can fill. without him, many comps that hunters run won't success, we call him treasure boy in mainland lol.
When Hunters was preparing for the season, the ideal line up was Silkthread, Jiqiren, Elsa, Lateyoung, Yvetal, and Kyo. They lost their main tank, first and second choice of DPS. So I think they did really well.

Chengdu Hunters were the very definition of a Wild Card. They defied the meta and became everybody's favorite team to watch because they were SO unpredictable. Welcome to the Chengdu Zone! Think of the meme "Is this Meta?.." They were the funnest team to watch in Season 2.

After seeing the Stage 3 review, a critical point that should’ve been pointed out (which was briefly) was the number of teams breaking off of the GOATS meta. SOATS (Sombra GOATS) and the triple DPS comps started to become more known to the teams. Houston, Valiant, and Shanghai all copied in suit to Chengdu’s style and had better success (5-2 and a playoffs appearance that stage). With other teams playing your type of comp, goodbye difficulty time countering as many teams have to practice towards countering triple DPS.
Dogman and Gator, who are now on the same team, were both present that fateful day, but on opposite teams

Paraphrasing one of Rui's "complaints" during a stream- this team needs a reliable captain to have any serious chance of making playoffs, we swap captains all the time because everyone we tried just didn't seem to have a commanding presence, unlike with Creed back in MY, who's a leader in-game and pretty much half a coach. Total communication meltdown when they think they are winning/losing, happens everytime, just dead silence like they are possessed lol. The best we've got is Yveltal, but still as a captain, I would rate him 5/10, if he's 10/10 captain we legit could have won six more matches.
The entire thing is quite funny....
I hope they find a new head coach soon, or maybe Rui can come back and find a healthier style of doing his job......

I think they’ll be very good now in S3 with Leave. He’s better than Baconjack and YXL and id pretty much consider him the best Chinese “DPS” player considering his history. (he can play so many characters)

Ameng inspired me to main ball. I used to play flex support but now I almost exclusively play main tank.

I would say that Fusion should get one of these vids as a Fusion fan, BUTTTTT our entire season was mediocre and had no storyline. We didn’t even make too many offseason changes, so it would be the most boring video ever.

Kyo was okay. He had some questionable decisions but he did his job as flex support. I have been very impressed with him.
