Always wear a life vest, even when you go for a little paddle. The water is cold. The weather can quickly change in minutes, and if you capsize and the board or boat gets away from you, you have two babies to support and get back to safety. There are often deep and hidden currents too, so don't ever take chances. Its our job to always consider worst-case scenarios as real possibilities and be prepared. A little anxiety is worth a pound of cure. What a great and interesting video. Happy life!
The most amazing thing about Swedish fika: it‘s not only „afternoon tea“ but on boats with a 24-hour watch rotation it’s actually held (celebrated) THREE times per day! Second breakfast, afternoon tea and middle-of-the-night snack. So that no matter when someone is sleeping, they can still have AT LEAST one fika per 24 hours. Usually the morning and night fika is hearty, though, and the afternoon one is sweet.

Aaah! I love seeing your dream come true! Looks like you're getting a full experience of the Stockholm Archipelago! We adore our simple island summer life, the cottages, nature, the quiet and light nights (although they're darker noe than a month ago), and we love it when visitors decide to explore it (not just the city), because the rural coastal life is so much at the heart of the Swedish people, the culture. Your boat is spectacular, you guys look so happy. That was a kind gift to give your KSSS flag away! It's the flag fir the Royal sailing yacht club, it's a good thing to flag, bc members will take care of eachother. You pronounced Kanelbulle well! We don't eat pastry for breakfast here, but müsli just like you, often with filmjölk, which is a fluid soured milk, like a thin yoghurt. Perhaps with some fresh berries for a luxe breakfast. Buns, pastries and cakes are for Fika, and Fika is generally att 11am and mid afternoon (or anytime of day). My favorite is Kardemummabulle which has cracked cardamom instead. Once you get used to the water temperatures being between 18-22 degrees, it's nice to swim here, bc there's literally nothing in the water to be scared of. No sizeable predators at all and no jellyfish in the Baltic as it's brackish water, almost sweet. I do love the Atlantic West coast as well though, further south, for the salty ocean, the shellfish, shrimp, crabs and mackerel, the mussels you can pick and fry up, but it's a bit colder and much more dramatic sailing, wavier. You can still eat all that and enjoy the Baltic's stillness instead. In time, I think Ziggy will become a good crew member too! Viszlas are great swimmers! Right now the weather's looking a bit rainy over the city, but it's likely not going to affect you much, or at all, as it's always sunnier out in the archipelago. I hope you're yaching vacay continues to delight all of you, again, congratulations on realizing yet another dream! Sailing life is profoundly life changing, and such a marvelous gift to your girls. Loads of Swedish kids go to sailing camp in summertime, and learn to sail. Loads of Stockholmers take their Skippers License in their teens, and get a small boat, or go off to work as crew members on sailing boats in the Mediterranean or Caribbean for a while when they're old enough. It's a fantastic asset to have grown up with sea legs and boat life. Great investment all around. ❤❤❤

Oooh this brings back so many wonderful memories for me! I spent all my summers, from as early as I can remember, sailing around the south coast of the UK, the Channel Islands and northern France with my parents. I used to love taking charge of plotting on the chart (pre GPS days!), steering and handling the dingy. My brother used to make a little money climbing masts for other boats… We also spent a fantastic summer sailing around the islands of Denmark when I was 8. Best holiday I remember as a child ❤

You should come to the west coast in Sweden to sail too! The archipelago here might not be as woodsy, but the water is nicer and clearer and there are amazing stone/cliff lagoons all around!

I had to chuckle about the sweet pastry. My Mom’s side of the family is half Swedish, half Norwegian & Sami. They all drink coffee - very strong, dark coffee.
