One of the coolest memories of my childhood was my mother taking me and my brother to the Star Trek convention in Berlin, where I met Michael O'hare (I was about 6 years old) and he was super awesome to me! I also remember having asked Mira Furlan to come back to Germany again during a panel (again, I was around six years old). And I had a huge crush on Patricia Tallman, who was there, too, but I was too shy to talk to her. Just great memories.
No. A remake would damage its integrity. It was more or less storyboarded as a whole, and as a whole it will remain. Re-watch and watch again, the laughs and tears will never grow old.
Growing up in the late 90s my grandmother in San Diego would send us VHS recordings of TNG then DS9 & even VOY (when it was on a channel she got) & we'd watch them repeatedly off & on. Only until a few years ago when got the DVDs she'd gotten did I ever see THOSE in the right order. BUT in the later episodes of DS9 she didn't always catch cutting out all the commercials so some would include trailer clips for what was a movie that was going to air with "Babylon 5's Claudia Christian". Had I known then how great B5 would I'd have asked if she could've sent those too. It would take seeing IN THE BEGINNING around 99-00 that introduced me to B5 then soon after the original Sci-Fi channel airing reruns. As much as I enjoyed DS9 the most of the ST series...seeing SF runs of B5 never got old & cemented it as my absolute favorite of the entire genre.
@telanian Oh wow, the CGI is tear-worthy at today's levels, but it's the story that will live on forever! I still think that B5 is the best TV series ever, even ~13 years after the airing of the last episode in my country! What wonderful writing!!
JMS was rushed to finish the main story lines because the show was under threat of cancellation during the fourth season. As a result, JMS compressed the major storylines and their conclusions into one season. But he still managed to leave the door open for other storylines in case he had to continue onto a fifth season. That's the mark of a true writer of a TV show: always leave yourself trap doors for characters and storylines.
Guys, I feel such gratitude towards anyone who has watched the Babylon 5 soundtrack videos I have uploaded so far... Please, PLEASE try to track down and purchase C. Franke's incredible B5 soundtrack CDs, you'll thank yourself afterwards. He deserves all the credit for his creative work and the income from them. What an amazing talent. Without him, Babylon 5 wouldn't be the same. You KNOW I'm right.
A kid? I'am a 40+ old man with 2 kids and beard and i cryed like a btich after this, and when a God Bless her name Mira passed away, i cryed all night long...
Personally, I'm interested in the Arthurian legend, and I think that, musically, this piece reaches the innermost core of the times past. What a great episode it was, too!
...I think it's time for me to re-watch the whole series from season 1 up until season 5 again - WHO'S WITH ME?!? Plus, who's your favourite captain/commander??
@@vaniljapulla When the show started to air I wasn't alive yet. I found it by accident, because I became a DS9 fan two years ago, fell in love with the soundtracks, and around this time last year gave the series proper a shot. By mid-season one, I knew I would watch to the end. Needless to say, that little space station that could became my happy place in 2020. I've watched all the way through twice, including Crusade and all movies, and some episodes way more often. I think it has taught me some very important lessons, the top one being to never ever take the status quo for granted - a lesson that could barely be more fitting these times.
Strazy been hinting about a movie so much. And he'll only do it if he's allowed full control and big budget, it's my dream this movie happens, but he just keeps teasing the idea...
I agree entirely with what you said about G'kar, and what made B5 great. But I do think that there could be a good reason for a reboot: To tell the story as JMS originally wanted to! Season four had to have two seasons' worth of plot condensed into one thanks to the threat of cancellation, and I think that the Shadow War arc deserved the extra ~15 episodes that it could've had. Imagine if we'd gotten the entirety of S4 devoted to the Shadow War!
That is true, however IIRC JMS said without that, he wouldn't have had room to setup the Centauri arc and/or the Telepath story. I always wondered if we were meant to see more of the EA Captains during the war, Mackie shows up again briefly but it feels like he was meant for more.
@telanian You are also correct that WE know the story, but there are so many people today that never encountered 'Babylon 5' before, and it would be a great way of getting over the '90's goggle' leap that we would have to take for the original show. Also, just because Andreas Katsulas was perfect for G'kar doesn't mean that there wouldn't be other entertaining interpretations of the characters. I would enjoy seeing this again and reinterpreted.
Has anyone, talking with a voice of 'authority', ever forced you to do something you regret. Your voice of authority is connected to the ship, to the bow of the ship.
@Varrenify: you forgot the Lost Tales, Three book Triologies (Technomage, Centauri Prime, Psi Corps), a spin off (Cruzade), other 10 books, some short stories and comic books that tried to tie the arguments... it's a shame that Cruzade and Legend of Rangers didn't have their opportunity for showing us more of that universe...
Who are you? What do you want? Where are you going? Why are you here? (The four questions Lorien asked Sheridan, just before he passed beyond the rim, never to return, but always remembered)
All they'd need to do would be updating the CGI but other then that nothing, the storyline is very well written. Just update the CGI. I know it won't happen but one can wish. Wish that they'd bring back shows where people have adventures and go places
There are certain series that cannot be improved upon...that were products of their time...that had the perfect mix to make it all work and turn it into a legend. Babylon 5 is one of these seldom seen series. There should never be ANY attempt at a reboot or reimagining. The story was told and ran its course. Several of the stars who made it work are no longer among us. Let it be.
@RaPositivist @telanian I agree that Babylon 5 should make a comeback, however I don't agree that it should be a reboot. A spin-off, a prequel or sequel series would be more ideal, I reckon. I can't imagine any other actor playing Londo or Marcus, let alone G'kar or Dr. Franklin. As long as the series still had great actors and a great plot, I'd watch it.
I do agree with you (mostly) but what about Patrick Stewart? I could see him in the role of G'kar. It wouldn't be the same, no one could deliver such power behind his lines like Andreas Katsulas did, but Stewart could still do a good job in the role.
@BZUCO1 Unfortunately you're talking to a guy that enjoyed the 2009 reboot of Star Trek... We'll still always have the originals, and if they did make a new version of the series I'm pretty sure the originals will still be my favorite.
Who's going to pay for the complete remastering of the show if its uncertain that the costs come back in? Even some of the people that worked on the show dismissed the possibility. Also some of the original tapes don't exist anymore, so no HD conversion is possible.
I think of my Beautiful city in flames, just giants in a playground, get the hell out of our galaxy,we have come to place president clark under arrest...
@RaPositivist Nowadays, years after the show has ended, I feel like some things are better left untouched... The 5th season might have been somewhat painful to watch after the *CRASH BOOM BANG* storyline had came to an end... and I still do miss Ms. Ivanova...
there is nothing wrong with remastering it better cgi and no more cardboard cut out looking back grounds also the shadow war felt a bit over hyped up so a remaster could add to the size of the fleet battles
@RaPositivist Make a reboot? Why? What on earth would that give us other than improved CGI? What made the original B5 great wasn't the CGI but the characters and the story. Now we know the story! And as for the characters, no-one but Andreas Katsulas (to give just one example) could play G'Kar. Any other actor attempting it, no matter how skilled, would be a poor imitation. For these reasons, any reboot would be a dismal failure. Accept that, enjoy what we have, and move on.
Think Patrick Stewart is far too wooden to play anything but a spoon without his shoulder pads(they all wore them in the naff next gen-extra shielding i suppose) Need new blood and CGI to reboot this great series. Danny Devito would be better, lol.

This is one of the best soundtracks from the best sci-fi series ever created. Does it need more to say? This is pure AWESOMENESS.

I gotta admit, there are times I miss the guitar riffs from The Gathering.
I bought 5 of them years ago, Shadow Dancing, Z'ha'dum, etc. Wonderful music.
Hi Vaniljapulla, I have some CDs, hope to get t rest, V good music👍
I agree B5 should be left well alone. I personally feel Crusade should be looked at, just to finish what was started
I actually cried a bit as a kid when I found out G'Kar's actor died.
Not all the tears are bad! Smile for what they all have given us. They and their characters will live forever in our hearts!
You have to admit that Andreas Katsulas was simply awesome.
@El Bearsidente And as of recently we can add Mira Furlan(Delenn) to that list. There isn't lot of left from original cast.
Likewise, also when Richard died. 🥺

Already on disc 6 of season 4 - began 2 weeks ago and Sheridan.
G'Kar' and captain Sheridan were hands down the best two characters on the show. Londo is third
