    The 28-70 is absolutely my favorite lens. The feel of the images and backgrounds, especially at f2, have such a great quality to them. That extra bit of light during for evenings is great too. I've gotten used to the weight but my only gripe is how difficult it can be to catch someone where they don't notice you're pointing a camera at them as the lens is just, big. But that said, it doesn't leave my camera during events, and leveling up my sneak is a fair trade :D Edit: Great video as always!

      That's why I love my Fuji cameras. You get so many great and natural moments, but you of course sacrifice a bit of the larger sensor magic you get from carrying around those monsters.

      Still excellent lenses and they work great, but RF would be a dream

    I bought this lens with great hesitation, but after owning it for a month and shooting regularly with it I do have to say it is probably one of the best zoom lenses I have ever used. Fast, sharp, fast AF, beautiful images. The weight, initially you are like sheesh 😒, but you get used to it really quickly and forget about the weight.

    Great, interesting video. I've just bought that lense and in June I'm going to shoot my first wedding. So time to adjust.
    The weight isn't a problem for me since I'm used to shoot a lot with my tamron 15-30 with EF/RF adapter and that's not a "lightweight" lense either🙂

    I just returned my copy of the the 28-70. I loved it and shot a wedding on it. Then I reviewed the images and found that at 70mm it isn't all that sharp and there was significant ghosting going on. It was super disappointing. I rented a copy before buying and I didn't see that issue. After going over so many images shot with my primes (35, 50, and 85), even though the 28-70 is sharp (at least a good copy), it just doesn't have that razor sharpness of the primes. I figured no one would notice but me, but the first thing my wife said after seeing a handful of photos was that they didn't have that pop or crispness of my previous work. That really struck my core. Luckily I was able to return the lens to Canon for a refund. And I don't think I'll buy another copy and just stick with my primes. In the end, whatever works for you.

    What about 24-105 f/2.8 same price & weight. Is it good enough for weddings

  • @obscurelines
    @obscurelines 3 роки тому +3

    I like the lens for weddings, though it's not the best for run and gun. Also, for a lot of wedding photography shallow depth of field (f2) isn't that helpful because you often find that where there is more than one person who is the subject of your photo (say, bride and groom) then one of them is usually softly focussed, which isn't ideal. For a lot of outdoor shots a 24-105 f4 is far more useful.

    • @icom782
      @icom782 3 роки тому +8

      You can always go from f/2.8 lens to f/4 but you cant go from f/4 lens to f/2.8.
      And you need that brightness for indoors.

    • @julianarredondo5752
      @julianarredondo5752 3 роки тому

      I agree 100% with you. I feel like F2 is great if your main style/niche is portrait work and you're obsessed with bokeh.
      Personally, even with the Sigma 1.4, I rarely shot wide open because I preferred less bokeh in the background, but tack-sharp images. I found myself mainly shooting around 2.8, so I just went with the 24-70mm instead and I love it. Still plenty of bokeh, but also a wider focal range.
      I guess it really depends on the persons style of shooting.

    • @adventure9606
      @adventure9606 Рік тому +1

      Can't speak for Taylor, I bought the grip with the r5 and it's the most uncomfortable grip ever, buttons not in the right place or spaced too far for a comfortable reach. I have used it maybe 30 minutes total and to me it's the worst piece of Canon gear I have ever bought. It's as though Canon got lazy and subcontracted the design out to a different company. It's not up to Canon standards.

Therefore I settled for the RF 24-70 2.8, which is still to arrive... Man, waiting time is the hardest time ;) I own the RF 50 1.8 which I love for run and gun pictures, but the focus breathing is so, so brutal and made me realize how much focus breathing for video is an actual problem. Just switched to Canon 2 weeks ago for this lens and I absolutely love it. Its not perfect and has some flaws but overall its versatility and look in terms of value its unbeatable even at such high price tag.
    Some observations made: This lens does not perform very well with up-close detail shots like rings, especially at 70mm, but with larger sensor resolution its not as much of a problem. Furthermore, next point can be both a good thing and bad thing ( I mostly consider it a good thing ), but 28-70mm has the most smoothest transition from focused to unfocused area at wide open i have ever seen. This is one of vital aspects of what makes this lens so pleasing to an eye, however at same time amount of times i had to punch in and squint at a screen to figure out if i have the photo in focus or not is insane considering how long i owned it for.
    Its a learning curve with this wonderful piece of tech and i need to get accustomed to its idiosyncrasies.

    Hey Taylor, how'd you rate this f2 vs using Canon 35 1.4 and 85 1.2 primes for weddings? I like very wide apertures for the look and avoid using flash as much as possible, so although tempting to switch over to this single zoom lens for practicality, I'm worried I'll lose that wide aperture look. Awesome video, thanks for posting 👍
