You taught me things about that lens that I would have never been aware of. Love your b-roll. It adds a lot to your message. Your comment about "oops mic change" made me laugh, and I probably wouldn't have noticed the change in your sound if you hadn't mentioned it. But I love your sense of humor in making that tiny comment.
great video! I'll add to 2 of your points. People don't realize that f2 is twice the amount of light of f2.8 which makes a huge difference in low light situations. It's what makes the 28-70 a unicorn. Also, because it's such a heavy lens, it stabilizes the camera a lot. I noticed that the videos I made were so smooth. And people will probably laugh at the statement that the lens makes you look professional but this does matter! I was shooting a Christmas gala event (it was actually the week before Christmas) and unexpectedly models were coming up to me to take pictures of them in their gowns. I was there to shoot more candid shots, event shots, and the executive members of the company. But these models almost swarmed on me. It was surreal.
Haha thank you for sharing. The extra stop of light is the reason I was so drawn to this lens. And you’re right, the weight helps with stabilization a ton. That gala must have been fun haha. Cheers!
Even though I bought it when it first came out, I still get the usual "wow your camera lens is HUGE" and they ultimately take me/my work more seriously. Looking the part is HUGE for getting more work too
Amazing review! I own this and use it for video work, and yes it was so hard to find review from videographers, wish this existed when I was deciding to buy the lens, but now that I've been using it for a year it's totally worth it!
Thank you for the kind words. I had the same issue as you with finding a videographer’s perspective. And despite it’s few flaws, this lens is easily my favorite in my bad. It’s just so beautiful to shoot with
This is true. I don’t find the noise of the lens loud enough to be an issue. Unless you are filming quiet scenes in which an on camera mic may pick up the noise. But most of the time I am using audio off camera so it hasn’t been an issue for me. Good point tho
@@gintokigriffiths1086 It hasn't been an issue at all for me. The trick is to use off camera mic. I use the Rode Wireless Pros lav'd up on myself or my subjects. And they have never picked up the motor noise. I still use on camera mics with this lens all the time, it only picks up the motor noise if it's a very quiet scene. Which is rare for me since I do events and corporate work.
Hi Bruno , thanks for this great review I was looking for this kind for a while on UA-cam !! I have a question, what about USM motors noises when focusing and recording sounds with a mix on top of the body ? Does it makes lots of noise ? I own a RF 50mm 1.2 and it is really awful when it comes to recording sounds with my Zoom M3 and my 50mm. I am afraid of buying this lens and have this kind of issue because it is ruining my audio each time I use my 50 with auto focus on...
The 50mm f1.2 has the same motors and motor sounds as this 28-70mm. I definitely can hear it if it’s quiet in the room. However, I never have a problem with audio. But I am using the Rode video mic NTG with the high pass, so maybe that’s why.
if we are having focus issues how can we even make small video, iam not able to understand camera logics, i can shoot video with my iphone without any blur but if i use canon cam, my video shooting going blur when i move camera from human to any object and object to human, whats is the point camera if we are getting blur effect in videos, can anyone help me i want to shoot normal video without any blur
6:20 - this would happen to pretty much all lenses even the L ones in bright situations. I even experienced it on my sony G master. One out of 20 times or so it'll happen, it's inexplicable but it happens.
Pretty much actually! Its most annoying when it gets stuck, luckily that one caught itself quickly. It was definitely cause it was much lower light situation
Thank you! This was the most helpful video in my search the past few days🙏
Im glad I could help!

This is amazing coverage and a wonderful explanation of this lens. Thank you so much!
Of course, thanks for the kind words
Thx! I use the same camera for video and was wondering how that lens was.
Such a gorgeous lens, I love it.

Haha exactly my experience as well. That client perception has been a funny side effect but a valuable one.
Great arm workout as well for long shoots
Great video man, keep it up!
Thank you so much!

Hi Bruno, do you think i can use r5 and 28-70 with dji rs2 or i need to go to rs3 ?
You can use rs2 and hold the r5 with 28-70 no problem. The RS2 payload is 4.5kg which is way less than the r5 2/28-70
You didn't mention the grinding sound of the lens which can be picked up by internal microphones when filming.

@@BrunoPozo4Real Thanks. Isn't this a gigantic issue though specifically for film making? Any microphone solution you've found?

Thank you for your answer. So it is not possible for me as the 50mm makes so much noise, even when it is crowdy i can hear them… such a pain…
@@BrunoPozo4Real the rode ntg seems to be similar with my zoom M3.. even with low cut at 120hz on i can hear the sound.
that seems like the case, sorry @@gregoryl.3445
@@gregoryl.3445 are u referring to on camera mics ?
Do you have any issues with stabilization?
When I use this lens with the R6II with IBIS it is surprisingly smooth which is awesome. No warping or anything even at 28mm.

Basically all of videography. I have no idea where to start.
