    Thanks! I was wondering about the air's 10-core upgrade. You helped me make up my mind about it.

    Great Video, very well presented 👍
    Base price here in 🇩🇪 is even more insane... 1499 € ☹️
    Thx John from Munich 😉

    I'm strongly considering purchasing the M2 MBA. For my needs the base model will be the best fit because I already have a Mac desktop for the heavy lifting, and the MBA would be my travel device. I'm currently using a mid 2012 13" MBP that I've upgraded (SSD, RAM, etc.) and, as much as I like it, it's heavy and getting pretty long in the tooth.

    • @GottaHaveIt
      @GottaHaveIt  2 роки тому

      Bryan, yes that sounds like a good idea. You’ve gotten some serious mileage out of that MBP! I would bump up the ssd on the MBA as much as possible. Good luck with the purchase! Thanks a bunch for watching, subscribing, and commenting!

    is the M2 Air good for an audio engineer ? (24gb memory 2 tb ssd)

      Vinci, I was just answering this same question for someone else. If you are producing music with dozens of tracks with plugins on most of those tracks, especially at 96 or 192KHz, you will probably need 16GB of RAM, perhaps more. A MacBook Pro would be ideal but you should be able to pull it off with the M2 Air. Naturally some Logic/Avid plugins are more demanding than others. I sometimes run several demanding Waves plugins like F6 on each channel. Those can add up and push your computing needs being the capacity of the M2 Air. If you are doing complex mastering, you may be pushing its limits too. Since I have not gotten my hands on an M2 Air yet, these are just guesses.

    Why the 8,10,8,512 configuration for the $1499 mba? Are these specs particularly compatible?

    • @GottaHaveIt
      @GottaHaveIt  2 роки тому

      @hj M That combination can work well for a variety of needs. Can you give me more specifics about what you will be using the laptop for? This will help me better answer your question.

      @@GottaHaveIt hi. no, my question is rather why apple chose to offer this particular configuration as their second “base” model. i’m getting it simply because i prefer to get a little more than the minimum. i keep my macs long term. also because any customization would delay delivery and i need a new replacement for my macbook.

    • @GottaHaveIt
      @GottaHaveIt  2 роки тому

      @hj M yes I think it makes sense. Base cpus and Ram work well. Getting 512GB is low but workable. 10-core gpus is just a throw in. Good luck with it! I hope it goes well. Thanks for watching, subscribing, and commenting!

    So I use Logic Pro x a lot, not sure if the 8gb of ram will be enough with it now having more memory bandwidth and longevity of it 3-5yrs

    • @GottaHaveIt

      Rene, yes media production will usually push those boundaries. If you are producing music with dozens of tracks with plugins on most of those tracks, especially at 96 or 192KHz, you will probably need 16GB of RAM. A MacBook Pro would be ideal but you should be able to pull it off with the M2 Air. Naturally some Logic plugins are more demanding than others. @@GottaHaveIt thank you so much for replying! And you’re advice! What are you’re thoughts on getting 16gb of ram and base storage with an external sdd, because I don’t want that old m2 MacBook Pro lol, I think the air will do the job hoping it doesn’t get too hot

    • @GottaHaveIt
      @GottaHaveIt  2 роки тому +1

      Rene, that could work. You would need to find an external ssd that can handle the throughput load demanded by your use. Writing is much slower than reading. So, you would want to find an external drive that has a really fast write speeds, to handle multiple streams of audio recording. If you always lay down your tracks one at a time, that is easier to accomplish. Then, there is the hassle of always having to lug around an external ssd. Getting enough internal storage is ideal though.

      16 GB of ram was enough in 2016 and borderline now for this kind of application

    So I have a question. I have not had a laptop since 2011. I purchased an iPad Pro in 2018 and it’s been great, but I now need a laptop for further task. I mostly will use quick books but I do like making videos. Nothing crazy just simple reviews for movies. I’m torn between the m2 air or the m1 pro. I never had a Mac laptop too. I just don’t want my machine to lag or freeze from me doing these task.

    • @GottaHaveIt
      @GottaHaveIt  2 роки тому +1

      Your needs seem to be right in the middle of the 2 laptops. You could go other way. A base configuration of the M2 Air with 512GB SSD costs $1,499. Similar configuration with M1 Pro MBP 14” with 512GB SSD is $1,999. If you can afford the extra $500, you’ll get much more power. If your needs stay the same, either machine will meet your needs. If your video needs grow in the future, you will be better served with the 14” MBP. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for watching and commenting PerfectSuperSaiyan!

    What do you think about upgrading from a 2015 MacBook Air to a m2 MacBook pro 24 gig and 256 base storage. I have a 2tb hard drive and I want the touch bar

    • @GottaHaveIt
      @GottaHaveIt  2 роки тому

      Jaleel, what will you be using it for primarily? That seems like a strange combination. How much of the 2TB have you been using? Why do you think you need 24GB of memory?

      @@GottaHaveIt I do graphic design, illustration and small video editing. I will be connecting laptop to a monitor as a hub for multitasking and to my IPAD pro for Universal Control/SIdecar. I don't want it to slow down anytime soon so thats why I want 24 gigs RAM. I have used about 15% of the 2TB harddrive tbh after three years purchase.

    • @GottaHaveIt
      @GottaHaveIt  2 роки тому +1

      Jaleel, if I were in your situation, I would buy the 14 or 16” M1 Pro MacBook. The screen has twice the brightness and the clarity is stunning. But, if you really want the Touch Bar, I would get 16GB off memory as your needs will probably never use that much. Then, I’d get as much ssd as you can afford. Best of luck with your new purchase. Let me know how it goes. Thanks a bunch for watching and commenting!
