Not quite, the game doesn't take your inputs smoothly, making it very annoying to control Shantae (especially on the transformations), there were many cheap shots, camera doesn't allow you to see everything which can result in cheap deaths, and to top it all off: checkpoints were very scarce. The game is not too bad, but man is it infuriating and uncomfortable to play compared to Pirate's Curse onwards
It’s such a shame this game didn’t do too well, sales wise. If it was released earlier, it would’ve done great! But hey, we still got this wonderful series so I won’t complain too much.

The Shantae series is represented in Smash Ultimate by 2 spirits, one music track, 2 tag icons, and a Mii costume. Maybe Shantae will be a character in the next Smash. You know Nintendo is likely working on one, at least in throwing around ideas. The Switch is 6yrs old, as of this comment, and I'm sure they are working on the Switch successor. A Smash game is a guarantee. In my opinion, Shantae is a marquee indie character, and very likely to be in the base game of the next Smash, as references to the character are already in Ultimate.

I noticed that Risky did much jumping around like Acid Seaforce (Toxic Seahorse) from Mega Man X3. Seaforce tries jumping on Mega Man X although he gets hit with a Frost Shield. I don't know what she was doing jumping around. She didn't attack aggressively as I thought she would.

Truly an underrated series, yes the fan-service is dumb, the characters aside from the main protagonist and antagonist are boring, the stories suck ass, and the gameplay is repetitive, but I think this game has a place in the video game world especially now that Way Forward took a huge win by re-releasing Half Genie Hero with *all the DLC* included in a physical copy no less. This series may not be the best, but the dedication is real...
I really need to play the first two Shantae games at some point, I consider Half-Genie Hero my favorite platformer of all time ... and I've played thousands of games, without exaggeration.
@@timothyroehm4307 Don't worry, I doubt she'll ever come to SSBU, but Shantae 5 was eventually renamed Shantae and the Seven Sirens. I mean, she does also appear in SSBU, but as a Spirit, and that's probably how she's gonna stay in that game, as a Spirit and nothing more.
There are Heart Holders hidden throughout the game that increase your health (think of them as Pieces of Heart/Heart Containers from Zelda). :) They generally require the animal transformations to get them, and there’s one where you have to use the invisibility potion (can’t remember its name) from the shops to get it. :) Hope that helps! :)
