@@glizzyfromda7 In the credits of the movie, that is how I found out that it is from a book. As the title of the video game, I never heard of it & maybe the creator of the movie never heard of the video game either.

I just finished watching this and it was so good. What a great plot. I did NOT see that ending twist coming at all. This movie really makes you think. Love it!
I just watched based on your reply. It was ok. I had it figured out before ending. Russell is still a great actor, the female was over acting at times but all in all I'd recommend.

Spoiler* anyone confused about the film. Roy is actually multiple characters. He is finn. He is the black guy that was sentenced. He is hallucinating throughout the film. He had the surgery to avoid the death sentence because of his crime of passion. Throughout the film. He is investigating himself. Diane and laura are the same person. But he starts seeing laura as various other women. He sees her in other characters that relate to the betrayal of his wife. So when roy talks to the convict. Its roy talking to himself. He kills his partner for loose ends or convicting him. I cant tell. kills his wife because of her betrayal. He kills in a furry to try to escape the trigger psychosis. Remember. He is hallucinating throughout the film and is various characters. The whole movie is roy’s story and no one else’s. The gardener tries to kill roy because he loved the doctor and the doctor was actually helping him. Roy then subconsciously jealous of a patient that wasnt abused. Triggers the gardener who knows who roy is and that he killed the doctor. Roy looks over the reports he didnt sign off on. This hints that his partner brought him in and arrested him. Not actual cover up. Because roy wasnt there to be able to sign them. He was in prison. Roy blames his partner for going to prison. Hasnt seen roy in ten years but they are clearly much older than reason.
Think of the movie ‘identity’ this is very similar in how it twists the plot and confuses the viewer.
That is incredible, and even somehow believable.. I watched this on a plane, and oddly, anther flight passenger started thinking similarly. There were some confusing parts to me, like why did that one guy try to run him over ???
@@jktrader37 there are various clues. I had to watch it twice to make sure. Its been 2 weeks and ive already completely forgotten about this movie. Bur if you rewatch it. Notice the varying colors of hair and clothes and how hes seeing his wife overlaid to other women.
@@jktrader37 the guy that tried to run him over was the gardener as i mention. Roy triggers him by telling him he killed the doctor. But the gardener veteran was actually getting better and being helped. The doctor too gave him a job and life and healthy career. Stability... roy i believe was psychotic about other patients not being abused and felt further singled out and no one else blamed the doctor unlike roy could. So the gardener is a real person. And he wanted revenge for what roy took from him just the same as what the doctor took from roy
If this trailer had been released 2 days earlier, I would've thought it was a prank for a certain Square Enix game

So when I saw this trailer title, Sleeping Dogs on Google. I originally thought of the video game, 5 seconds in. I realized this was not at all what I expected. Halfway through watching, I did end up being intrigued so I'm curious as to how this movie will play out.

This movie is very, very GOOD!!! I went in with 0 hopes except for Russell, but the plot is stunning and the actors performances are brilliant. A true surprise indeed, more movies like this please. Crowe is a guarantee!!!!
Had me guessing from the start. Loved it. Quite the film noir without putting too much of a modern spin on it. And Crowe and Flanagan together again.... if in a way. Man.... I want to forget I saw this film so I can watch and enjoy it again right now.

@@javiernunez1595Crowe's characters wife (or girlfriend) was the barmaid who had the affair with the professor who's murdered. I guess they split (Crowe leaves her) following everything, but prob before his DUI accident. She dies of cancer before Crowe's memory comes back...but it's only when Crowe goes looking for her (not knowing who she was to him in the past) that he finds out about her death.
I think the overall lesson of the film is: can we live with our memories, our mistakes and regrets along with all the happiness good memories bring?

To anyone who watched the movie, something doesn’t make sense, so if it was Russell Crowe’s character who killed the professor as we learned, why did Westlake and the caretaker try to kill him? Doesn’t make sense.
