  • 34027 'Taw Valley' has now been withdrawn from service to undergo an immediate overhaul. For its final year in service the locomotive was painted into an unusual wartime black livery and given a new number (2ICI27). The locomotive also controversially ran in a Lilac/Pink/Purple livery to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's Platinum jubilee year prior to its final year in black. I felt it prudent to compile all of our shots of Taw Valley in its wartime guise and make a video which would be easy to find for those who liked seeing this rebuilt Bulleid Pacific in Black. Scenes are shot from 2023 - 2024 on the Severn Valley Railway & West Somerset Railway.
I hope you enjoy the video.

Excellent footage there Liam and Phil. I really like Taw Valley in Wartime black. Much better than the Purple livery.

Taw Vaalley was painted purple by the owners to comemorate the late Queen Elizabeth 2nd's Platignum jubilee as it was due for an overhaul and the Green Paintwork was looking a bit shabby and gain in Wartime black for the last 12 month before a major overhaul after which it will reappear in Brunswick Green again

Superb photography as usual which really makes the Black Wartime livery stand out. I actually think without the ‘Air-smoothing’ the ‘Black’ makes it a far more imposing machine, a ‘bit of a beast’. Now if it could be stood next to the other Bullied wartime engine the Q1, that would be quite a sight.

Not historically correct, rebuilds took place under British Railways not the Southern.

It was just done for the last 12 month's of it's boiler ticket between it's stint in the Queens Platignum Jubilee purple livery and it's major over haul as it would of been a waste painting it Brunswick Green with all the lining for 12 Months

Isn't it nice for a change every now and then? It's something a bit different to see on the SVR, rather nice for a few months I think.

To be pedantic, it wouldn't have made sense either way as she was built in 1946. Only class premier 34001 even came close to overlapping being built in May 45 and the war in Europe ended 8th May 45. Taw Valleys owners have always been brave with the livery choices and personally I don't mind it. Plenty of correct examples to see if you want accuracy.
