Great video, I was on DigiKey yesterday. The only way to learn how to order from them is to take the info you showed and get on and do some searching. Thanks again.
The best video I've seen on navigating the parts houses. I buy massive amounts of components a week for engineering at work. I should have them watch this video. Thanks for making this. N1FOY -Foy
I gave up dealing with both of these companies because their online catalogs were so horribly confusing to me. This will really help. Thanks for explaining it Bob.
Hey Bob, Thank you very much for this video. I have ordered some stuff from Digikey, mostly SMD . I can't remember how many times I have hit the exit button because I lost it with frustration, especially with Mouser. I have been looking for the 5mm Caps and have just given up. Maybe my next shopping experience will be much better.
Thank you for taking the time to show some of your tips. The problem in ordering from Mouser and Digikey has always been the the vast selection to choose from is so daunting. Part of that is alleviated with your experience. Like you have a preference on PR01 resistors or you know brands x & y caps are fine in this type of project, etc. That just comes with experience (and bias 😉). But the filtering everything down and leaving the value for the last filter is a great time saver.
It might make it more overwhelming but don't be afraid to include higher-spec values in your search. Such as higher-temp capacitors, tighter tolerances, higher wattage resistors, etc. Pricing can be odd, the better part might end up being a better deal.
Absolutely. I should have mentioned that. I plan on doing a follow up to address that and some other issues like the old component value system vs modern. e.g. Use a 22uF cap to replace a 20uF.
Great tips on ordering from these suppliers. It can be overwhelming as you are limited to choices over what you want over what they have. I usually order via fleabay because it is so much more easier to find what I want instead of spending so much time trying to navigate these two particular sellers sites. Sometimes it is hard to find a particular X1,Y2 safety cap needed but they will usually have them at a good price if you order by per 10 count for example. Thanks Bob.
Sorry, no. I don't order part for one project at a time. I go through my local inventory and order only what I don't have. It's also tough as part availability constantly changes.
Thank-you for this video Bob. Big help ! Vendor choices certainly can be overwhelming.
Nice to know that I have been searching for parts on Mouser the optimal way all these years, same as you! 👍🏻

Thanks, it helped, getting around the site can be an issue for me. This helps a lot.,

Folks, don't forget that if you shop with Mouser or Digikey, you get REAL parts, NO counterfeits. Using Digikey since the early 70s.

Thank you Bob. This helped me even though I don't order bunch of parts.
I feel like the only person on the planet who kinda enjoys putting together BOMs...it's therapeutic :)
I really enjoy looking for parts, but I have 1,000s on hand, so I'm only ever looking for odds and ends - not a whole project.
Thank you for taking the time to show some of your tips.

I use Mouser, they're only 16 miles away from me so the stuff arrives fast.

That's called a "parametric search "
Yes, didn't I say that in the video?
Do you have b o m's lists for predictas that you can share?

Rats, I got 2 to do.
Was checking for a 'cheat code' ...
