I miss how the cars had suspension travel and were up off the ground. It was so cool to see the cars move up and down over bumps
When they went into the corner an the front end slammed into the asphalt. Miss that era
This. It’s so satisfying to see the Gen 4s go over the bumps like that.
And they could be hit and rubbed and keep racing. Nowadays, their day is done if they hit a single blade of grass-the cars just fall apart.
@@themidwestbarber8428 That's more to do with the splitter and how low the cars are to the ground now. I remember Earnhardt Jr going into the grass with his left front at Texas back in 2014 and the car just exploded on the left front quarter panel. In the gen 4 cars, he probably would have lost control, but the car would be aerodynamically fine.
@@WhoopityDoo I was at Kansas I believe it was ‘15 or ‘16 and Denny got into the back of Keselowski and sent him into the infield off turn 4 and it legit looked like a bomb went off as soon as he touched the grass.
One of the best sports events I've ever attended. Sat in the front row between turns 3 & 4. Got to witness the Ward Burton incident right in front of me and finally see Jeff win in person. Day I'll never forget
SigmaNuHE481 I was up near the top of the grandstands in turn 1. It was still amazing from up there!
Those were the good Ole days! Packed house, great racing. NASCAR used to be so good.
"THE BUMP AND RUN!"
"There it is!"
"GORDON UNDERNEATH TO THE LEAD! TWO LAPS TO GO!"
Lol
@@Weezy10580 lol 93 times he must of been doing something right
"Can Rusty come back?"
@@Weezy10580 I think you misspelled bump for dump. Cuz that was clearly a classic bump n' run.
@@Weezy10580 You don't understand. It's clear that you didn't like Gordon's great move and acting like Rusty was just wrecked making it "dirty."
Arguably, the best Bristol Night Race.
The 1999 version is comparable, but this
race had EVERYTHING:
- Heat pads thrown
- Ambulance Abuse
- Giving The Finger
- Lots of Passes
- Lots of Wrecks
- Dramatic Finish
Side note: Dale Jr. did jump the start & was not black flagged.
i thought i was the only one who noticed that lol.. surprised the commentators did not call that out
@@aaronmason3086 I think Allen & the others only mention it if NASCAR calls the penalty.
Since NASCAR didn’t penalize Dale Jr., they didn’t feel the need to call it.
Pit strategy and the faster cars having to make up track positions at the end to win as well. Fantastic
Best races are the ones that are fun from start to finish like this one
As a Gordon fan, this is second only to the 2015 Martinsville win. Makes me want to scream and shout to this day.
Hell yes I was a big fan of Jeff Gordon
He should've won the championship in 2002 2007 2014 and 2015 he is a 8 time champion in my heart
6 year old me was very happy watching Jeff bump and run Rusty. And 24 year old me is still very happy watching Jeff bump and run Rusty.
I was 7 when I watched this. Every Sunday my grandma and I would watch nascar and the Dallas cowboys. I remember watching the Cowboys win with her then watching Jeff win. One of my favorite memories
Geez I was 25yrs old lol
26 year old me is also just as happy to see it happen again!
7 year old me agrees 😂
Bro same.... 😂 One of my favorite races of all time, I was 6 then, 24 now 😁
1:47 What a great shot! This scene was later used in NBC/TNT's into from 2004-2006.
Look how stacked the crowd is
Normal back then!!
58:30 for anyone that wants to skip the echo/double-speaking thing.
The fact that either A. NASCAR didn’t actually notice this before/after uploading OR B. Don’t care enough to fix it is laughable
The old Bristol nothing like it. In all honesty this might be one of last truly great Bristol races.
2003 wasn't awful.
2:01:59 “just like any other sport he’s ever been in, it’s always-always somebody else’s fault.” So true, Jimmie. So true.
Robby gordon ran legit everyone over and took no blame absolutely historic
Pretty typical robby Gordon
Tbh I'm surprised Benson didn't just put robby in the wall after they crossed the line.
Robby was such a jackass.
Even Jimmie Johnson gave Robby Gordon the number one finger.
31:48 I miss Allen and Wally in the booth together.
NASCAR Thunder 2003 ❤️
@@williamgrantham4481 Play it on PC all the time..
My favorite one love playing it.
I miss Jeff gordon
Been a Fan of his since 2002
We all do
I've been a fan since '93. I was 16.
Me too he is the 🐐.
@@robertrobinson1111 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂
Saturday 08/24/2002 exactly 22 years ago today my brother and I got to be there for one of the best races ever run at Bristol. It was the year after Dale Earnhardt crashed and died at the Daytona 500. My brother was heartbroken as Dale was always his driver and Jeff Gordon was mine. My brother became a Dale Jr. fan, but he was so happy for me when Gordon won his first Bristol night race that evening. My brother passed away 3 months ago on May 28th. As I watch the replay tonight those amazing memories of that day and all the times we were blessed to spend together come rushing back. I think of how much he always wanted to meet Dale Sr., and I am sure he is up there talking racing with him now. I love and miss you so much Mike. That full moon night in Bristol, TN will live on in my heart forever. What an awesome race and what cherished memories!!!!
Thanks NASCAR for upload races from my favourite 2002 season.
Bestwick BP & Wally having the time of their lives🏁calling this Bristol🏆classic😅
"it's time for a cocktail boys" 😂
53:54 I think (i think) there's a problem (there's a problem) with the audio (with the audio)
currently waiting to see when it stops!

Spent that whole Saturday with the family driving to, and dropping my sister off for her first semester of college. Made it home just in time for the green flag. What a race!
Its so unbelievable how NASCAR was able to destroy something like this. This old races are good for the youths to see what NASCAR once was and not this modern crap that we have now.
@@randomreviewsrebooted5156 you haven't been watching very long then
@@randomreviewsrebooted5156 Just tell me how old are you?
@@randomreviewsrebooted5156 notice how there are 160,000 fans, you don't see that today or the last 12 year's!!
I love how we can hear them chatting during commercial breaks
"Wish I had sumthin I coulda shot thru tha windah!" lol
Enjoyed this race so much as a 12 year old. This is the old Bristol, kids 1 groove on the bottom if you wanted to pass you had to put the bump and run on them! If you got stuck on the outside you could loose 20 spots or more!.
Or driver leaves room for another car to stick the nose in entering the turn
This race is one of many reasons why I hate Robby Gordon...
Everybody hates robby lol
I miss almost all of these drivers, especially #24 The Greatest Of ALL Time!
Nope Dale earnhardt is Nascars greatest ever 7 to only 4
@nascarandrc8296 7 to only 4 because Sr didn't have to be robbed of championships by dumb chase formats. Gordon should have won atleast 9. Plus he won 20+ more races. Gordon is the GOAT
Probably the best race of the 2002 season
Probably on the top ten list of best nascar races of this era
The 2002 Bristol races, both Busch and Winston Cup, were incredible. Between the atmospheres, the quality of drivers and just the action+tempers and finishes, they were amazing.
I miss these days.
Somewhere in nascar’s video vault is a full length race of each onboard camera in this race. They should post it.
My favorite race of all time! What a finish!
I miss this Bristol.... that crowd is unbelievable
2:09:10
2:11:47 the most savage moment of the race 😂😅😆🤣
Ward Burton
Robby, bumps Jimmie the whole lap before the restart. Then when he gets into him and spins him out, he wonders why he was getting black flagged. Such classic Robby.
*suprised Pikachu face 😮* 1:57:20
Spotter: "Robbie, they're gonna come in & hold you for two laps"
Suprised Robbie: wHY??
2:02:38 then to 1:57:20 for reason
Hearing the audio in the booth before they are on airbus awesome.
Miss these old days of racing, I will never stop wondering how many races and championships would have been won if Evernham and Gordon stayed together.
And Ward Burton got fined $5,000 for that throwing his heel protector and coming on the race track
This was 12 Years before the Kevin Ward Jr. Incident
Worth it!
Look at all the people in the infield in turn 1 and 2
2:44:29
The victory lane interview needs to come back
At 1:24:22 do I here a eco eco eco?
I was there with my husband. 2nd is next best to first. Man, I so wanted Rusty to win. He's was my favorite driver when he was driver.
Such a bummer that Rusty couldn’t hold Jeff off. Would have been his 10th at Bristol. This race still hurts.
Hut Stricklin's last race ever. His crash is at 1:46:15
Ricky Craven and Kurt Busch had a pretty cool rivalry going for awhile. It wasn't talked about a ton because Ricky wasn't one to complain, but you could see how they raced each other, there was some tension.
I should've been born in 1994 and have been raised in the 2000s because if I was born in that year
I Might watch NASCAR at the time
1994-1999 - Would be my baby/toddler/preschoolhood
2000-2002 - Would be my childhood
2003-2006 - Would be my Preteenhood
2007-2011 - Would be my Teenhood
2012-Present- Would be my Adulthood
This is exactly my life. Fascinating you chose that year.
Green Flag 12:33
I love watching these old races
This was the Best Bristol Cup Race! Don’t @ me!
It's ridiculous that, ESPN... before there was HD broadcasting, that ESPN's 4:3 coverage and recordings are SO MUCH clearer than TNT's, NBC's and FOX's from 2001 up to HD. ESPN was even a lot clearer back in 1987 than this 2002 race. Go look at the full race replay of the 2 1987 races from N. Wilksboro that NASCAR posted up here, and compare it to this...
I know right? Watched 05 Bristol spring race and it was horrible
That onboard sound at the finishing laps tho..... music
1:49:32 😬 Yikes Benny
One of the goat races
Man.... I feel like 98-2003 or 2005 was peak NASCAR....
Hey @NASCAR bring back THIS Bristol please!
“Jimmie Jawnson should be fawkin shawt!”
Gordon fan after we lost Davey Allison and this is my favorite when for some reason.
Man I miss TNT Nascar. I loved that team.
The drama of nascar. And always with a law and order marathon after
I was here for this race 😁
Me too!!
That's How Jeff Races Everyone!!!! Speed Demon!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🏎️
HYUNDAI in NASCAR would be great way to reattempt gaining attraction in Asia. Similar to the race in Motegi in late 90s, an Exhibition race in S. Korea could be a great way to attract new fans and can have assured attendance by the fan base of the American soldiers stationed there. Be a good reminder of home for them and could attract new American fans from the American military population. Hey, most people are amazed when they first watch a race, imagine if the North Korean leader was invited and enjoyed the spectacle…. Ok, that’s a bit of a stretch 😅 but something like this hasn’t been attempted since late 90s and is worth trying. Anyone have any thoughts?
I miss this version of Bristol
Yeah. But people nowadays would get too upset if someone did the ole bump-n-run
That was a great move by Jeff.
Can you show the first race you have in HD 16:9 ?
ua-cam.com/video/dsq4za8C_xI/v-deo.html 2005 Daytona 500
1:56:36 "shit" lmaaao
😂
Wtf is the audio on minute 56?
With Robbie Gordon being on probation for this race how was he not parked
3:11
As a Rusty Fan, this was the peak of my hatred for Jeff Gordon. It took me a about 10 more Years after this race to respect how good of Driver Gordon actually was!
And to think he went on to win 30-something more races
Nailed you. He barely nudged you Rusty,,
Robby Gordon really was a joke through most of his career.
You got that right if would have calmed down and not been such a hot head he could have been better.
Anyone know the song they opened the video to?
Fuel by Metallica
Remember when Jeff got mad at Robby for knocking him out of the way at New Hampshire 9 months earlier? Pepridge Farms remembers.
I. Love. This. Race!!!
Was not expecting Benny Parsons to be a gamer
Missing racing pretty bad.
Yes!!
I miss the days of racing to the caution
I don’t think Bestwick likes Waltrip, damn.
look at the young harvick
56:00 the echoes are very annoying
class style winner rusty
that was a clean legal pass
Are we just going to ignore how blatant Dale Jr. jumped the initial start? Should have been a penalty
No way the chosen one gets blackflagged
@@stevencook420 quit crying loser Nascar never gave Jr special treatment he was just a great racer
Lol all these years later, still a wallace fan still dont like gordon
Nice!
RUSTY ON HIS WAY OUT OF A ride
No "invocation" or National anthem. Propaganda free version.
Ah yes I’m 14 and this is deep
ok yuri
black flag on the #31 is stupid, #48 was going way to slow on the restart idk were he was suppose to go. if nascar is going to black flag for that what about the #22 for the win last weekend? #48 crying like a little baby wont admit the failure was his own.
even robbie gordons grandma hated him..
Kyle Larson wouldn't have anything for these drivers
-NASCAR LOOK AT ALL THOSE FANS LOOKS SOLDOUT TO BAD YOUR NOT ON NETWORK TV ANYMORE FOR THE POFOLK YOUR FANBASE SAD TO SEE NO FANS IN THE STANDS EACH WEEK 20YRS LATER
....this race was on cable as well, you idiot!
ECHO ECHO
Kyle Petty... no talent whatsoever lmaoooo
This video is missing important information !!!! Which of Bristol's 2 races is this? Food City 500 / Sharpie 500 ?
Sharpie 500
Are you stupid or are you dumb it’s the sharpie 500 obviously
i dont think if this is sharpie 500 broadcasted on TNT or the Food City 500 Broadcasted in FOX. i think this will be a food city 500 because the round 1 race is 1997 Food City 500 broadcasted on ESPN.. men i dont know lets find out later
@@LouiseDenmar it literally had a "Sharpie 500" animation that played when we went into a commercial break
CABOLIS 68 if you know anything about NASCAR history it’s pretty obvious that this is the Sharpie 500
Turning Bristol into dirt is BS .
