His court coverage and agility for somebody his height is by far the most remarkable part of his game if you ask me. Nobody that tall should move that well.
Danill is dangerous because he hits the ball very low and flat with spin through the court with alot of pace taking people's time away from them as well as being fast around the court.

Medvedev is the first tall guy (6'5, 6'6+) where I feel like there's no asterisk next to his movement. Usually people say "quick for big guy". Medvedev is just outrageously fast, full stop.
He is definitely fast, but there are quite a few players faster than him.

So basically considering all the things, Medvedev is the fastest player on the tour.
@@milenavidmar2733 I don't think so, Carlos is fast enough to make up for the lack in reach. If they both sprint from the baseline to the net I think Carlos would at least be 1m ahead and probably more.
He’s extremely confident in a humble way as he KNOWS himself and the game just like the Big 3 also do. It’s a mental game to him and he’s SMARTER than most other top players because he doesn’t really ONLY on the physical and power of his strokes (even though they’re amazing too)
As stated by many already his style is unorthodox, perhaps to some even a negative approach. I myself find his playstyle elegant and clean, very much a perfect counterpuncher in the vein of Djokovic but with a very unique twist. He's an intriguing figure in the top of tennis, plus he gives the best interviews by far. He's a very straight up and honest bloke, quite likable. He's got a few more slams in him I reckon.
To me it's how much he forces you to do, to even win a single point. You have to be almost perfect with your shots to force past him. Nadal's high win % against him is due to Nadal's ability to create high percentage winners via point construction, while being very consistent (forehand rarely misses)
I usually go for traditional styles but theres something I enjoy about Medvedev. He really does seem like an octopus chessmaster with the different ways he hits the ball and moves. It makes one uncomfortable and gets in the head of others. I also enjoy how he is able to win the crowd too somehow lol. Hes a funny dark horse and is so fun to watch
He was able to turn a US open crowd from booing him to cheering him on in a few years! 🤯
I love to think about Daniil as the Waluigi of the circuit (in a good hearted way). Similar constitution, unorthodox technique that feels often as if he was an amateur... But always finds a way to win the point and turn defensive stances into lethal offenses with ease. It can be funny or weird to watch from outside, but the more you learn about tennis, the more impressive this guy becomes
Actually for a squash player his style is nothing unusual - he has a great control of where the ball will hit, aiming close to the line or corners. Also, he is running to each point, this is what you learn in squash - you have to try and chase every ball, you will be surprised what balls you can get if you chase every ball. Being able to serve acute angles from any position and using the whole field is also very squash-like. Tennis for a long time was missing those "simple" squash techniques.
Quickness is more about the mind than the body. He always thinks about the things that might happen next, after his shot. So he is ready and he reacts quickly. And he also has that long legs and arms to reach everytning in sight. More importantly he has the will to do this.
That's why they call him Octopus 🐙, he's a long-limbed, intelligent creature.
I'm amazed that I don't even find his playing that spectacular, but still very beautiful and enjoy it. A way of playing is definitely unique and has its own specific character.
There is nobody who frecuently produces winners from so far off the court like Medvedev does. He is amazing.
Medvedev’s on court intelligence is what stands out the most to me.
My respect for Medvedev grew even more after his win over Eubanks in Wimbledon.
Eubanks was like the player to beat. He was overmatching every opponent until he faced Medvedev.
Medvedev made Eubanks look like a player of much inferior level which is not the truth.
Dude, Eubanks' run at Wimby was a bit overinflated, considering he played Tsitsipas after Tsitsipas had played 4-5 days in a row due to rain delays -- when a player doesn't get any recovery time after a 5 setter and faces a big server like Eubanks on grass, it's gonna be an unfair advantage. Now if Meddy beats Djokovic, Alcaraz or Sinner or even Hurkacz on grass - I'll be impressed.
He is genuine to his emotions, that's his biggest strength outside all other play related abilities.

When you look at Meddy with his huge height and such a skinny body constitution, look at his movement or how he is running or just walking you could think that he has a lethal decease. But his ridiculous speed, defense skills and powerfull baseline game are just unreal.
He is my favorite since he was ATP ranking 52. ;) and until now and will be forever

After federer medvedev is someone i love to watch not just for how he plays but the amazing personality that he has 😇
Medvedev game is quite simple:
1) he hits back with a tenacity of a jackhammer, making very few mistakes and maintaining rally tirelessly.
2) his serve may not be super fast but his placement is superb, often hitting o T or very wide
3) he have a big reach, making hard to pass him or lob him.
4) either his opponent misses or shorten the ball to him.
5) to beat him you’re going need to be very offensive and have all weapons on your arsenal sharp. ( like Federer or alcaraz)
Other than his movement being an easy thing to love it's the way Med reads the game and anticipates players and their patterns. It's right up their with the big four. Good video, small critique - I think you could put more effort into better name pronunciation. ISner not Eyesner, Daneel not Daniel

I think his contact point is the crux of his game. He takes the ball at its apex but with his height he still plays the ball at waist height but can hit flat. It’s like normal height players playing with a reduced height net, you can hit the flat ball much harder.
A big server who loves to grind from the baseline is such a rare combination.

Medvedev is proof that technique is not the most important skill to have in tennis. So what is? TIMING. you can have all the technical elements in the world but if you lack timing, you wont be a good player

I root for Medvedev as long as his appointment isn't a Canadian since I have to go for my country. It was Federer and Nadal but now with Federer retired and Nadals future up in the air my favorite is Medvedev. It's hard to pin point one thing that stands out for me. I guess it could be him all over the court and the shots he wins cuz of it.

How did Alcaraz take him out so easily at Indian Wells?
IW has a slower court which he complained of. Slow courts are his kryptonite which explains why he never generally does well in clay courts. Making the finals of IW is already a miracle. Also, you have to factor in fatigue. By the time he has reached IW final, he has already played 3 finals for 3 different weeks. So, there goes. It would be interesting to know how their match-up would turn out if they play on a faster HC.

@@sassy3923 depends on how you wish to construe my reply. Truth be told, Meddy doesn’t play well in clay courts. So I don’t think he will be that much of a problem to Nole.
@@m.butterfly7452 That's good to hear...I'm really rooting for Djo to win the French and not having to worry about his nemesis at the French will give him a better chance. I don't think Nadal is physically his best anymore, so Alcaraz poses the most serious threat.

Meddy is an enigma. He's not the most naturally gifted player, his counter-punching game style is boring and yet his personality is exciting, he's a wall, he's an octopus, he's a meme... but I find his will to win and mental game most impressive. There have been several times when I thought there's no way he's winning with his game and he does - he had no business winning Rome!!! 🤣 He's willed himself to the top of the game like Joe Rogan willed himself to be a good comedian. But now he's hitting a wall called Jannlitos and he's getting exposed so let's see what happens.
