Harsh mate, some (not all) of his points are valid. Connors would play in somebody's back yard if it meant he could add a title to his total and it is difficult to argue against the fact that the level of competition in his heyday was on the thin side. Roddick has admitted that he suffered for not having much in his bag beyond a forehand and serve. The worst thing that could have happened to Dimitrov was his comparison to Fed, he's never been able assume that mantle. Perhaps the more valid point to make is that in tennis surfaces, equipment, training, and conditioning are constantly evolving and some players handle it better than others, but also that a modest numbers of titles does not make a player irrelevant. Cheers!
Connors on the list is utterly ridiculous. Dimitrov has been derailed by injuries the last few years, but he's still won a M1000 (Cincy), won an ATP Finals, and has been to a couple of GS semis
Dimitrov's carrer shifted after the ATP finals. He hasn't reached a single ATP final in 5 years. People hyped him to be a regular presence in the top 10 for many years, but he has just been a top 30 level player for the last 5 years.
Exactly ONE thing is overrated about Connors: the most titles record, because he won so many of those in tournaments where he never had to play another top-20 player. Otherwise, he was without a doubt the best player in the world at his peak, managed to play at a high level for longer than any of his peers, and almost guaranteed would have won a calendar year grand slam if he'd been permitted to play the French Open in '74.
@@HeavyTopspin I don't think that Connors was overrated or underrated, he was one of the greatest ever, but not nearl the very top. Connors has 8 major titles despite playing in Australia just twice -- winning once and a finalist the other time. What would be his total if he played there every year? Yes he was blown off the court by the next generation. It happens to them all.

Saying that Sampras surpassed Becker on grass in "No time" is really not accurate. Boris Becker is four years older than Pete Sampras. He won two grand slam titles before his 20th birthday and had four grand slam titles by his 22nd birthday (the same number of slam titles that Nadal had at that age.) Boris broke up with his longtime girlfriend at the beginning of 1990 and his mind wasn't focused on the game in the same way that it had been. Becker won 12 consecutive grand slam matches before he lost to Agassi in the semifinals of the 1991 French Open. That's equal to the first half of Djokovic's legendary 2011 season. The guy was one of the best tennis players of his era.
I love that "he never won a French Open" is given as one of the reasons. Neither did McEnroe or Sampras. Lendl never won Wimbledon. Borg never won the US Open. Only 8 men have EVER completed a career slam. So I guess everyone else is overrated?
Nick Kyrgios is a good player. But definitelly overrated. But not only him, the entire next gen is and now this younger generation. Some people even compared them with the big 3, i find that laughable.
Get used to it mate , Federa has retired , Djokovic is close behind him and Nadal is getting a lot of injuries . This overrated next Gen as you put it are the current and future of tennis . I can think of 3 players that will easily replace the top three 👍🏻 Nick Kyrgios being one of them 👍🏻
Bit harsh to Dimitrov. He's made three GS semi finals, won a masters 1000, had a beautiful game. I don't know who rates him that highly anyway. Not his fault the media put high expectations on him. It seems to happen often with very good looking players, they get all of this pressure and only some can deliver (Sharapova).
Watching to the end but lost 80% of my attention when you said connors was overrated. Ridiculous tale yes he’s not in the goat conversation but you might as well say Agassi was overrated
*Raducanu* is currently massively overrated but she’s young. She has done nothing on the court since her 2021 USO title. Too many off the court distractions. *Connors* is NOT overrated. Some like to talk about his competition but there were a lot of great players in the 1970s. His game was revolutionary. You don’t win 109 titles, win 1,274 matches and 82% of your matches by being overrated. He had longevity and a killer instinct. He was banned and then participate in FO. Outside of Australians few competed at the AO in the 1970s.
@@Creees how so? She was at the beginning of her highest peak and wasn't that popular for her unique talent then retired before she became the world’s favourite
People tend to forget that Kournikova was back in the day one of the most promising players. Yes, she got a ton of money for her looks, but it was not only her looks, she was a junior GS champion, and played Wimbledon semifinals at 15. She was supposed to be one of the next big things with Venus, Serena and Lucic (Hingis was a reality back then). But she was blinded by the fashes and then there were injuries and she became miss double fault and all derailed. Emma is in danger of being in the same situation. Of course she won a GS (let's be real, a player like Emma would never won a GS back in the 90's or early 00's when a lot of top players fought for the GS) but the impression is that it came too soon and she is not remotely prepared. And Gasquet probably gives the award. Back in the day he was supposed to be the next big thing. He was going to rival Nadal for years (for some people he was better than Rafa) but that never happened. In my oppinion French federation simply puts too much pressure in their young stars and that don't do them any favours
Gascquet was the teenage sensation before Rafa started showing how unbeatable he was on clay. I think Gascquet, with his mediocre serve+1 tools was never gonna amount for much in the long run, but the junior circuit was not prepared enough to expose his weaknesses, that's why he usually demolished everybody there with his monster backhand. Once he entered the ATP Tour, reality kicked in and he refused to improve his chops so his career got stagnated.
@@rodrigoodonsalcedocisneros9266 Not exactly. Richard and Rafa were rivals on under 14 category. Both won Les petits as. Then they took different parhs. Gasquet was number one on Juniors while Rafa barely played Juniors. On the pro ranking Rafa was alwaya ahead but Richard was pretty closer. Both suffered injuries early inntheir career. Then 2005 Clay season started and the rest is history. The main problem with Gasquet is that his tennis didn't evolved. His backhand is amazing anyway
Laver, Connors and Court need to be taken off of this list. Court won the grand slam the first year as a professional. Connors was so dominant. Laver really!!!
I actually think Kournikova is underrated for her tennis. The overwhelming narrative that I always heard was that all she has is looks and wasn't any good at tennis. The truth is that she was actually a pretty talented tennis player and her doubles success shows this (#1 in doubles at one point) along with her getting as high as #8 in singles.
@@rielemi5862 There's a huge gap between Murray and the big 3 but no one else can fill in that big 4 spot besides Murray. You clearly haven't watched tennis closely.
I agree with what you said about Raducanu. This was her first full year on tour, and while the US Open championship was partly due to luck, the talent and skills are definitely there. She needs to find the right team and stick with them. I would swap her for Sofia Kenin. In all honesty WTA is seriously lacking consistency. If we are going by the quality, perhaps Iga would make it such a list in couple of years simply because she's been consistent while her contemporaries have not. This is not to take anything away from her talent and achievements this year. I don't know if the same can be said about ATP because with Alcaraz and Sinner the new generation is really coming to the forefront.
might aswell mention everyone with 1 or 2 slams or anyone in arguably a weak era. Is Fed overrated because he won most of his slams against Roddick, Safin and hewit? I mean he has a losing record to Rafa and Novak.
People conveniently overlook the fact that this year was Emma's first full season on the WTA tour. To suggest that her entire career is at risk based on one injury plagued season is ludicrous, but hey as long as it gets you some views.... I don't know why I am bothering to comment.
Andy Roddick is def not overrated. Maybe under archived because of the lack of grand slams. I think the big 3 are so godly they made him look weak. 5 grandslam finals, 4 1000 titles and was in 9 finals. I would say the big 3 are at the top, and then right below the big 3 is Murray and the right below Murray is either Roddick or Wawrinka. Roddick has less grandslams than Wawrinka but Roddick has more titles and more wins in his career. Probably achieved more than Wawrinka overall accept the grandslam.
Andy it's definetly overrated and has been for years, te fact that they invented and pushed the Big 4 narrative it's the biggest proof of that, i remember how Even in 2012 when the Big 3 was already stablished for a couple of season media was hyping more Murray than Djokovic itself lol, it was crazy how they pushed him si much, and after The surgery that still happening, the fact that they barely make a comment on his outburst on court like they does with other players it's another proof of bias towards him
@Diego Soto Miranda did u watch the video? I was talking about Andy Roderrick. And actually now that u say it Andy Murray is not overrated. Yall are so use the how godly the big 3 are, that anyone below them are overrated.

Wouldn’t say Andy is overrated either as we all knew what his limitations where and what tournaments he was going to win where either Wimbledon Or us open. Honestly for his limited game I’d say he even overachieved, what 1 us open, another us open final, and 3 Wimbledon finals? I think Andy was overhyped because he was American following up Pete and Agassi, but no one said he was ever in Federer or nadal level.
I think people need to remember that saying some is overrated doesn't mean that you don't rate them at all. You can think someone is an all-time great and still think they're overrated relative to other players of a similar rank.
I may surprise you, but I think Carlos Alcaraz is a bit overrated. The guy makes a huge number of unforced errors, plays spectacularly and has a lot of winners, but that's not all. I remember Mats Wilander raving about him. For me, the guy may be a good tennis player, but he won't stay on top like Federer, Djokovic and Nadal for a long time.
Some on the list are actually great champions; no one wins 1 slam by accident far less multiple or getting to world no 1! The rest are underachievers who either didn’t or as yet haven’t achieved all they could
Kyrgios: he is can afford to be spectacular because he does not care that much about winning. David Ferrer: politely heralded as one of the best to never have won a slam, but boring, and actually was never close. Andy Murray: some people still talk about a big4. Gasquet: elegant but weak and ineffective
Personality plays a large part. If the crowd likes BadBoy Attitude ,then a player tends to focus on that rather than working on their game. Some are focused on their personal life rather than their Game. Djokovic, Nadal, Federer Focus on their Tennis . Putting in the Time and Effort to work on their Stamina, etc.
I'm glad this is just your opinion and not the gospel truth! Jimmy Connors does not deserve to be in this group. The man accomplished more than most players ever with the tools that he had. He also had a very long career which should account for something. Get him off this list!
To call Rod Laver overrated, must be a joke. He belongs to the best players of all time, was far ahead of his time. It would be the same to call Roger Federer overrated. Maybe agree with Gasquet and Roddick. Connors was great, does not belong on that list.
Connors losing to incredible players years his junior is the rule rather than the exception. So many have seemed to collectively forget that Federer is 6 years Novak and Rafa's senior. Plus the man made a semi-final run at 39, which no one thought was possible at that point.
Only serious error here is Becker. First and only unseeded player to win Wimbledon, and the youngest to boot. Racking up 6 majors can hardly be called “overrated”, particularly as his competition was first class, including Lendl and Edberg. Not winning RG is hardly a fault, as neither McEnroe nor Sampras won the title either. (Becker was a semi finalist there at least once). Classing him with Roddick, Hewitt and Monfils is simple bad judgment.
Connors Margaret laver monfils gasquet Andy are not overrated, there is difference between overtalked and overrated, Zverev is missing on the list age 26 but didn't win a slam and has been hyped because of 3 sets since 2016 and claimed as future world no 1 by rafa in 2017 , still many think he is threat
Court is totally overrated. On top of being a bigot. She cleaned up at the recreational AO of the 60's. The fact that she, unfortunately for the rest of the world, ended up with the most grand slams ever is the only reason anyone ever considers her as much as they do. Clearly she was an excellent player, but so far less than her record indicates on paper.
The Most Overrated Player In Tennis History is david nalbandian. If there would be not wikipedia, who telling us the true with stats , david nalbandian would be the second greatest player of all time, when it comes to federer fans, when they talking about him like if he would be a king or tennis giant something like that.
In my opinion, Rod Laver, Margaret Smith-Court and Jimmy Connors should not be on this list. If anything, I would say that Roy Emerson and Ken Rosewall are "underrated", because we always talk about Rod Laver but then we forget about the other two. Rosewall won 8 slams in the late 50s and early 70s, and was a professional in between. Emerson won 12 individual slams, all in the 60s, and never became a professional (until maybe late in his career, when the Open Era began). Jimmy Connors (or even Roger Federer) should not have to apologise for the fact that his major rivals were several years younger than him. You can only play against whomever is at the other side of the net. If the field of opponents is weak, it's not your fault. I see some parallels between Carlos Alcaraz and the start of Roger Federer's run of slams back in Wimbledon 2003. It took Federer a while to have serious contenders in Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. There is a lot of talk about Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune, but who knows, maybe the true rivals of Carlos Alcaraz are in their early teens right now.
It’s always kinda hard to judge who is overrated and what the criteria’s are out of the whole list I would say kyrgios, gasquet and dimitrov are the only ones I agree with. They were talked about for years as contenders and never did anything and were never in the top 10 or if they were for a small amount of time. Honestly over roddick you could replace him for isner, probably add in there Caroline Wozniaki, Mardy fish
Andy Murray anyone?😂😂😂 Most Brits for no fault of theirs become overhyped cos they can't seem to win anything and English fans can't stop the hype. Similarly with US players in the last 10 - 15 years after the era of sampras and agassi
How dare you call Monfils overrated!!! 🤣 But seriously, no one was ever touting him as one of the greats or a grand slam contender - so not overrated at all. He's been accurately rated as a walking, jumping, running highlight reel and pure joy to watch. Dimitrov definitely overrated - both in "baby Fed" nickname and "best looking" on tour. He's a talented tennis player, some great highlight shots, cutie pie for sure. But we got Matteo Berrettini and Stefanos Tsitsipas on tour. I mean, get real. Is anyone really calling Margaret Court goat? I don't think so.
Regarding Nick he isn't really overrated as some think, he has a great record vs top 10 players, but that doesn't mean if he is serious he would have won multiple slams, he has many weaknesses in his game, his game is majorly relied on serve and he has one of the worst return win% in 2022
Not fair for Emma. Every single attractive champion gets large endorsements and has no financial reason whatsoever to compete any longer. It happened to Bouchard as well.
Bro I agree with everything but Andy Roddick nah the dude had huge serves and nice forehands. He only got ruined by fed. If fed wasn’t there he’s atleast 6 grandslam winner more than murray
Are you guys kidding about Margareth Court being recast? This woman has won as many as 64 Grand Slam titles in singles, doubles and mixed doubles. In singles alone she has won 24 titles. That's more than Djokovic currently has. No one else has accomplished something like that. In addition, she has won a classic Grand Slam. Roger, Nadal and Djokovic only play singles and still have fewer singles titles than this woman. Margareth is probably the best and most underrated tennis player in the history of the sport. Usually when the best female tennis players are mentioned they are: Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf and Serena Williams, and hardly anyone remembers Margareth Court. Besides, she won 191 singles titles. Roger has only 103.
Nick Kyrgios is certainly not overrated. If u honestly think that you clearly don't watch tennis as on his day he can beat anyone and is one of the most talented players out there
He can't play a full year because of his game style. I looked at Wiki a few weeks ago and he has major injuries every year. Cant play clay because of knees and sliding; had a hip physio full time for three years; knee/wrist/elbow full time from heavy surgery; too easily distracted by racist heckling.@@PSP92262
David Nalbandian. Realistically, he was far worse than the likes of Tsonga, Berdych, Ferrer etc. but for some reason he seems to get this hero worship from certain fans who claim he is the biggest wasted talent ever / most naturally gifted player who was just lazy etc. In reality, he was a decent top 10 player for a few years who had a great backhand and decent all court ability, but an average forehand, an average serve, and pretty poor movement and athletic ability. At his best, he was obviously still a great player and was even able to beat the best of the best, but he was nothing special and nowhere near the level of the other players mentioned above.
@@alexpiper1115 You just proved his point even more! In your personal estimation he is underachiever EXACTLY because you hold him to that high regard, but in reality he was just average at best...
But that are not tales it's the truth, Nalbandián even showed out of shape in tournaments he ended winning like the 2 Masters he won back to back against Guys like Federer and Nadal lol, it was known that tennis wasnt his Main Focus cause usually he was spotted doing ski and Even conducting rally while the season was going on, missing tournaments, not eating propperly spending time in other interests, he basically was Kyrgios before kyrgios without the trashtalk, but actually could deliver some Masters (including atp finals) and his level was clear when he was on, he was really close to be a gs champions and Made semis on the other 3
The level of prime of Nalbandian (although short lived) was as good as the big three's. That's the main statement, and you just cannot deny that having into account what he did in 2007
Monfils is not hailed as the goat but he is a widely known tennis player because he makes you love the sport and his passion and entertainment makes up for him not winning anything
Easily Kyrios as his talent doesn't translate into many tournament crowns and not even one major except for doubles. Even disappointing Jack Sock has major doubles wins.
You have lost all credibility with me as a serious tennis channel, by putting Rod Laver on this list. Not worth while even attempting to reason with you, except to remind you that as you favour modern players, not one of them has achieved what Laver has. If this is your attempt to be controversial, it's pathetic.
Monfils is not rated, no high expectations or whatsoever so he is not overrated. Conners is overrated. He was good and successful but not to be no 1 for many weeks. Gasquet is underrated. He is very insignificant in the tour. Nobody talks about him. Kournikova is not being talked about lot so she is not even rated. She cannot be overrated because she is not even rated. Roddick is not overrated but he is underachiever. Hewitt is overachiever abd overrated. Court and Laver won lots of grand slams before the open era and right after open era started. They are not counted.
Nadal is the most over rated, as he hasn't taken A SET off of novak on hardcourt in 9 years and he is still considered a close contender in the goat debate. You gotta be kidding me. He is so scared of facing novak he gets injured just thinking about it.
what, he has more us open that novak so called best hard court player. Nadal did not use natural gut like federer and novak to rally both are skinny and weak.
Well, one player that was ridiculously overrated was Tommy haas remember? And then Raducanu of course. Not saying she wasnt talented, but cleaely overrated
I would add two more tennis players to this list. Dominic Thiem. True, Thiem won the US Open, but now he is not even in the top 100 ranking and is unlikely to achieve anything again. The second player is Alexander Zverev. He's a guy who has phenomenal talent, but no mental toughness. I remember him losing a match in AO 2022 to Denis Shapovalov, just because of his weak psyche.
Talking about overrated, no list would be complete without the "Big 3". Yes, they are great tennis players, but they all play(ed) in the weakest era professional tennis ever had, with essentially only three players capable of winning slams. Plus, for many years Federer was literally the only truly complete player on the tour, with 99% of his opponents being one-dimensional baseline robots. Back in the 1970-1990s, there were dozens of complete tennis players around. That´s straight up unthinkable today. And don´t forget that, on top of it all, today´s top players are protected very securely by the seeding system with 32 players (instead of 16, as normal). That way it´s made sure that their [major] torunaments effectively start at the semifinal stage most of the time.
A valid point too. There’s so much money and stardom in the game now, who needs to win anything? Only the 3 old guys, Murray, Wawrinka and now Alcaraz.

Laver won all 4 during the open Era. Saying he only won during the time when pros couldn't play the grand slams was a huge lazy mistake on your part.
Nick Kyrgios is a good player. But definitelly overrated. But not only him, the entire next gen is and now this younger generation. Some people even compared them with the big 3, i find that laughable.

He's an eyesore.

This list is bizarre
Its the wta. How can you be over rated or under rated on wta.
Barty was over rated
I’d say Murray. Just because people were always saying “the big four” when he won nowhere near as much grand slams as the other 3.
Great comment 👍
No, Murray was Nr. 1 for 41 weeks, he belongs to the top four.
@@danielhkhk7283How many weeks did Fed, Novak, and Rafa hold it?
@@rielemi5862 There's a huge gap between Murray and the big 3 but no one else can fill in that big 4 spot besides Murray. You clearly haven't watched tennis closely.
British media hyped murray, there is only top 3
Tennis has a rating system so no one can be overrated but they can be overhyped
Isnt Serena a bit overrated?
might aswell mention everyone with 1 or 2 slams or anyone in arguably a weak era.
I swear y'all are going to be using these same excuses for her until the day she retires with her ONE slam.
@@onyx081 That will still be one more than 99% of players. Go contemplate that "y'all"--whatever that means. English but not as I know it.
@@diegosotomiranda4107 Did you watch tennis in 2012? Is funny to me that you mention that year because every member of the big 4 won one slam each, and every final was between them, australia Djokovic d. Nadal, paris Nadal d. Djokovic, wimbledon Federer d. Murray and new york Murray d. Djokovic, nobody was talking about a big 3 back them, is was big four or fab four, they were the beatles of tennis
@@taxationistheft7yYeah, if anything Roddick's over achieved.
I think people need to remember that saying some is overrated doesn't mean that you don't rate them at all. You can think someone is an all-time great and still think they're overrated relative to other players of a similar rank.
Henman was an overachiever, not overrated. World class on fast courts and he even had good runs at the French. A very skilled game.
Casper Ruud reaching #2 rank for sure. Barely deserves top 10
You have no idea what you're talking about if you say Jimmy Connor is overrated.
I think he explained himself pretty well. You’re entitled to disagree though…
Zverev. I remember when he first started on the tour. They were calling him future number 1. Still never got there.
i understuud many points. But with this argumention you can also say that Zverev ist overrated at the moment because of his painfull slam situation
Plus the man made a semi-final run at 39, which no one thought was possible at that point.
would like to see an "underrated" players list...first that comes to mind for me, is Michael Stich

Monfils vs Djokovic
0 18
So unless your name is djokovic, federer, or nadal, you are overrated? Ok lol
Dimitrov has been overrated just for 2-3 years, everyone has forgotten him now
Only serious error here is Becker.
Ivanisevic won Wimby unseeded...
One man said that Dimitrov maybe didn't win nothing in male tennis but he won everything in female tennis.
He just underachieved
This man literally put jimmy connors on here😂🥲
Andy Murray and Tim Henman should be on the list
What do you mean, "tennis was missing an era"?
6:39 is crazy💀
Kyrgios is so overrated.
Tennis Plus dude has a hate on for Kyrgios. Nick didn't sign his hat a decade ago and Mr Tennis Plus is determined to kill him off.
Well, Dimitrov is back into top 10.
Rios, Nalbandian, Ferrer, Berdych, Soderling
Emma Raducanu is a great player but she needs to be more consistent and find a team that can really help her be successful

He can't play a full year because of his game style. I looked at Wiki a few weeks ago and he has major injuries every year. At his best, he was obviously still a great player and was even able to beat the best of the best, but he was nothing special and nowhere near the level of the other players mentioned above.
i dont think this is an overrated player, he just underachieved.

I remember him losing a match in AO 2022 to Denis Shapovalov, just because of his weak psyche.
sad that his wrist injury basically ended his career
Gael Monfils is not overrated. He is a waste of potencial.
U posted connors was so good now saying overrated
I'd definitely add Federer
