  • Hello everyone! Some light has been shone onto what Loghain is intending, and it does not sound good at all. Curious about what Anora's involvement in the incident was if any. Hope you enjoy the video!
Special thanks to morrigu1995 for the chainmail :)
Friendly reminder about keeping spoilers to a minimum.

Dragonage likes to pretend you are allways racing against a clock but there is actually no timer for anything. You can play at any pace you are comfortable.

I remember the first time I played this game (2008) when Teagan said, "Did he also do what was best for your husband, your majesty?!"
I sat up in my chair like "OH SHIT! OH SHIT!"
Such a savage burn! Good times...

It's fascinating and enjoyable watching you discover this great game for the first time. As you're discovering, this game is very old school in that it's very happy to let the player fail at a quest and keep going. Consequences to player decisions is very much a thing in DA. Really enjoying the playthrough!

There are two potential companions in Lothering, one of them a rogue, so it might be best to stay in the area and do all the local quests you can before moving on. Besides, it's Bioware - you know what happens if you run off to do the main quests too early.

I recommend turning on subtitles for all dialogue, so its easier to understand what companions say during their banter!

    >Some light has been shone onto what Loghain is intending, and it does not sound good at all.
Some light has also been shone on his motives. The cinematic where he answers Bann Teagan says in no uncertain terms where his loyalty goes.
    >1:41
Not that kind of game :) In some other RPGs people may get pissed off to the point of wanting to kill you if you rummage through stuff that doesn't belong to you. In Dragon Age, if they don't want to let you in somewhere, you won't get in (either it will be plain impossible or you'll need a specific key). Everything else is fair game, providing you have someone in your party able to pick locks (as of course most chests are locked).
    >13:58
You certainly didn't misunderstand her. Her phrasing is peculiar but not without reason.
    >17:17
Oh, don't you worry for Morrigan on that account, she's fully capable to be her own self, and quite a vocal one at that. :D
    >23:44
The only difference in the matter of the spells you may acquire between you and Morrigan is her shapeshifter specialization. All the other spells are common to all mages. You decided to go a certain way yourself but if you let the game decide for you at the beginning, the first spells you gain are Winter Grasp (offensive) and Mind Blast (defensive) which Morrigan has. Morrigan's default configuration puts her more on the path of a controller/debilitator though, a path you also chose for yourself. Continuing this way you may end up with two mages who will be able to control or debilitate enemies but offer very little in term of damage dealt.
    >33:39
One advice here would be to clearly separate the attack abilities from the sustained ones for all the characters in your party. When one's a first time player one can get easily confused between the icons (especially between classes). Separating them and organizing the attack abilities from low level to high level would be a good practice so you don't waste time trying to determine what is what. It's good practice for long time players too anyway: never let the icons get mixed up :D
For Alistair, you could put Shield Bash and Shield Pommel on one side (attack) then leave one or two blank spots and put Shield Cover and Shield Defense (sustained). That's the general idea but you can refine it to your taste.
Mages can also have sustainable attack and/or debilitating spells but let's worry about that later (you don't have any at the moment). When/if you do you can put them in their own little section(s) :)
    >"shield defense should probably be always on"
Shield Defense is a good basis for Alistair but when he is targeted by archers, Shield Cover may be preferable. It really depends on the situation.
    >36:43
Morrigan's Mind Blast didn't work there because the enemy was way beyond range. Mind Blast is not a targeted spell and only affects enemies in close proximity to the caster but it can affects several enemies at once which is good when the mage is surrounded. It may give some breathing room.
    >38:00 "...and don't judge me"
I won't... I called my first one Dogmatix (well, the French version of that anyway). I must admit.. I was drawing a blank on the name :D
    >49:10
They were OK for the twenty silvers but looting their stash might have been pushing it a bit far XD
    >50:44
Now that's amusing. He killed you at the moment Alistair finished him so he ended up surrendering anyway... to a dead person :D
    >1:01:50
If you omit the bounty on your head which complicate things a little, you're technically a Grey Warden now, by the grace of the dead King of Ferelden. The Chantry and the Templars may or may not be pleased with it, they don't have authority over you anymore. Morrigan... other story. Technically she's an apostate just traveling with Grey Wardens :) I suppose that if the Templars had time to waste on her, she would be fair game.
    >1:02:30
He probably can, the mage staff and robes are a dead giveaway. I don't think the Templars here are in a position to care that much about you though.
    >1:05:29
If only European governments were thinking like you...
    >1:06:09
I would attract your attention there on the little notification displayed on the bottom left corner of the screen "Morrigan disapproves (-3)". Because yep, this is a thing in this game. Companions have opinions about what you say and do whether it affects them directly or the world in general. Those opinions can be positive or negative. A bit like real life and it can be as annoying too :D Clearly there, Morrigan didn't like the way you went about the profiteering situation (she kinda warned you before hand with her "survival of the fittest" hint); although it's a small dislike not a major one. It's an interesting mechanics in Dragon Age: Origins that is supposed to mirror life.
The only one that will never judge you is Cuddlebear. As all good dogs he's loyal to a fault so to his eyes you can do no wrong. Whatever you say, whatever you do he will love you all the same... isn't that heartwarming? :) Your other companions though...
No need to mention that approval is very important for relationships, especially romances. You won't get to romance someone who doesn't like you, even if they can be romanced.
There would be more to say about the approval system in DAO but I'm sure you'll get most of it along the way. The system is rather straightforward anyway.
    >"MaLAbari"
I'm trying to guess where that comes from. Although in French a "malabar" is slang for a person with a lot of muscles (Cuddlebear definitely has a lot of muscles) so if you were French I could understand the thought process. :)
    >1:08:08
Yes, they do. With their own special set of tactics aptly named "War dog" (like if the teeth were not obvious enough :D ).
    >1:10:02
I believe the thinking from the writers behind "good luck with that" was more in line with "Well, she's gone, not coming back, so good luck with waiting for her". Which is a cruel thing to say to a little child so I'm sure you didn't meant it that way but the writers certainly seemed to.
    >Elf: "Perhaps our belonging are still there"
On the other hand, Liera already raided the bandits' stash so she probably already sold all your stuff to that crooked merchant over there :D
    >1:14:46
Both the reaction to 1 and 2 there are hilarious in their own way :D
    >1:15:07
You can go crazy on the side quests as much as you want. None of your companions really cares because it generally means "money" at the end of the line, and you will need it, even Morrigan understands that :)
    >1:27:30
Ooh, the desperation, so close and yet so far... My kingdom for a rogue! :D All those locked chests. It's simply maddening! Who knows, pray the Maker enough maybe you'll see a light :)
    >1:32:20
Decisions, decisions! Were you expecting anything else in that type of game? :D
    >1:32:57
And don't forget the dwarves! :)
Well, the next episode promises to be fully packed. Lothering may seem like a small area but it's full of stuff to do and people to meet for its size.

Not an attack spell in my mind. A support one. The spell doesn't cause any damage by itself unless a person wielding a weapon affected by the spell attacks. Example of a sustainable attack spell would be Draining Aura. Sustainable debilitating spell: Miasma.

That's a great idea! I'll do that. It'll help me get less frazzled.
      > the mage staff and robes are a dead giveaway.
What do you mean? I like long skirts and walking sticks XD
      > this is a thing in this game.
I figured as much when I saw gifts in my inventory haha. Oh well. We'll see how it all shakes out!
      > Were you expecting anything else in that type of game? :D
Not at all, but finding the counter point to my seemingly made decision soon after making it was quite amusing :D

Don't worry about rushing anywhere. The game lets you take things at your own pace so you can chill. Go anywhere you want, do anything you want. No pressure. You're not on a time limit so don't worry. Great video as always. I just hope you'll post more Dragon Age videos faster :D

  • @joandsarah77

The quest with the boys mother won't start if you don't talk to him, don't worry he won't follow you. No one is going to follow you except your companions.
Make sure to sell any junk as often as you can before leaving an area and keep an eye out for backpacks to increase carrying capacity.
Highly suggest doing every side quest you can get your hands on to level up as fast as you can. This game, depending on location has some sharp swings up in difficulty.
Don't worry there is no timer but going to Redcliff sooner rather than later is a good idea.

Quick note on inventory: as far as I remember, you don't need to pass potions etc to individual companions. You just have the one shared inventory, which anyone can access. (Except for equipped items, obviously!)

Just like ME game you have loyalty from companions, you can check how loyal they are near bottom of their model in character screen. The loyalty can change depending on your actions, what you say to them in conversations and by giving them gifts. (some gifts they love some not so much😉)

Yeah Loghain is stuck way in the past and his head is so far up his ass about Orlais, that he doesn't see anything else haha. It must have been horrible for Duncan though, imagine dying like that seeing the beacon lit but no reinforcements, knowing the battle is lost - at the beginning of a blight no less. He must have died in such a state of dread. I feel so bad.

He stayed silent on Jowans fate after Jowan redeemed himself by helping to save both Connor and Isolde. I lost respect for all three of them tbh (Eamon and Isolde) because they all still treated Jowan like they he needed to be executed. I know you can persuade to have him be sent back to the circle, but that probably ends up with him becoming Tranquil (something he escaped from in the begining).
The only way you can avoid any of that is by freeing him and saying "I never want to see you again". He is seen helping refugees escape later on as well. Without the warden or jowan one of Connor or Isolde have to die, and without the warden Eamon would die (because they retrieve the sacred ashes to heal him). Jowan is genuinely remorseful and deserves to be let free. Fk all three of them imo. The game not letting you persuade him with max persuade sucks too.

Im glad to see you're still enjoying the game, there are two people in town you should find, once you've finished the prologue I recommend heading home and avoid the ashes for the moment, it's entirely up to you, a quest might pop up about remote control and it's worth doing when it appears, oh and the "gift" you can get can give interesting reacts on each party member
Looking forward to your next dragon age outing

50:30 This was a perfect situation for Mind Blast unlike when you used it in your first combat with Morrigan in your party. You used it then as if you thought it was a spell you cast ON an enemy. It isn't. It is instead a spell you cast that radiates outwards from the caster, stunning enemies in melee range around the caster.
In my opinion, while not technically a powerful spell, Mind Blast is extremely useful, and I expect you will eventually use it a lot yourself if you do end up heading down the Arcane Warrior path as you will often be in melee combat.

7:47 Regarding your comment about Flemeth, I always thought Flemeth was more Chaotic Neutral (to use the D 'n D alignments for a guide).
As far as tactics are concerned. There are preset tactic setups for each class that I usually used, though I don't know how useful they would be on higher difficulties.
Morrigan's sarcastic comments to Alistair are hilarious. At points they sound like an old married couple.

Don't know if it's been mentioned in the comments or in a tutorial, but u can up grade ur and ur companions gear to higher tiers by selling it to a merchant saving the game afterward and reloading then buying the gear back. May take a couple tries to get it to tier up but u can eventually tier up every piece of gear. If u want to upgrade them without waiting to find the tiered up gear through looting. U can also do this using a storage chest that u get in the soldiers peak dlc if u have it and would like to save the money.
