    It’s amazing how Barbara Steele can look vulnerable one minute and then have an air of menace the next😂. She has appeared in many amazing films. She really suits that period look.

      I'm new watching her, but so far I think she's so cute it's hard to be afraid of her . . But her gothic movies were fine works of art. Nice soundtrack, for example. Good writing . . I agree with all the people here who say her movies are something special.

    Thank you for this marvelous gothic horror film ! A long time ago I had a vhs tape copy that I bought from Sinister Cinema which was made from a beat-up 16mm master and non dubbed, so I had to use my imagination to put together the story and dialogue. The plot of this one is similar in some ways to that of Camille Mastrocinque's other well known gothic, Terror In the Crypt (1964), which also features a young gentleman attempting to solve an ancient familial mystery involving a work of art - a statue here; a portrait in the earlier film. I find it odd that no reviews, critiques, or synopses of this film have never mentioned that the cause of the horror and violence in the story is vengeance on the part of a woman who was rejected and scorned because of her ugliness, somewhat like the tragic but terrifying titular character in Carrie.. Thanks again !

    Good film...until the ending, and I did not understand the way the film finished. A minor character erupts on to the screen and Harriet, who has been responsible for all the mayhem, is let off the hook. A weird way to finish it. Perhaps the screen writer did no know how to end it but just wanted to do so quickly.

    • @colonialgal1750
      @colonialgal1750 Місяць тому +4

      It did feel a bit rushed, but Harriet was just the puppet, of the puppet, of the puppeteer.
      You could see through the film, the switch in personality in Harriet.
      Barbara Sreele oozes sexuality.

    • @henrybrowne7248
      @henrybrowne7248 19 днів тому +2

      Definitely rushed. I was just fine with the notion of a Belinda ghost at work through Harriet. I was expecting probably some kind of exorcism at the end but yeah, it was as if the writer--or maybe they ran out of time or something and just cut it off 🤣. . Would've been a lot better if they exorcised the spirit of Belinda out of Harriet, with some gory screams, fire, and special effects of the time . .
