Christopher Lee was so unique, his voice so rich, dark and deep. I've always enjoyed watching him, and listening to his voice... Any film with him in it is worth watching.
I was going to skip this one to watch another movie that caught my interest, but then I saw "Christopher Lee" in the title, and decided it would be worth it just to see old Chris at work. Love Christopher Lee, he could menace the pants off of anyone, which made him an excellent vampire.
Hi Cute, Christopher was just built for fun horror, wasn't he?? I mean, I could never yell, hey Chris!!! He just deserved mysterious respect somehow? What say you??
This is a true golden and more-or-less "underground" classic from the early 60's,NOT too well-known but remembered by those who watch it. It's a classy and atmospheric Euro version of Sheridan Le Fanu's "Carmilla" story about a lesbian vampire. Note the nice quiet and subdued audio;not the usual noise and explosions and shouting you get with today's movies, and no bodies being torn apart or explicit sex---how refreshing! It makes you wonder if the human race going backwards or forwards!
"Gee, where's the 'jump scare'?," an early-20s y.o. would ask today. Much of the 60s work - especially from Italy et al did a wonderful job of capturing the eerie atmosphere, just tantalizing but staying at, say, PG... afternoon TV's "Dark Shadows" learned from these! Creepy...requiring you to invest in it... Masterpieces in their genre!
Addendum: Also, the manner in which an effect of vampiric "dwindling," or "melting away," is achieved nicely with mere a) acting b) camera angle c) actor/crew coordination. It's called "film making". It works!
Great movie! Poor Ludwig and Laura. I think it must be very difficult when you know others paid the ultimate price for your freedom. There must be a profound sadness for them and yet a profound gratitude to them. Lee and company nailed this one down. Great cast, great story, terrific film!
Today's horror movies just can't compare with those black and white ones . Their action, their direction , their mystery all are unforgettable and uncomparable.
Lee is a great Vampire. I still like Lugosi. In the classic, my favorite line is " VanHelsing, come here" not the words, but how Bela says it. Yes, horror is my genre. I will talk to anyone about horror.
Christopher Lee has made more movies than any actor I know of. When the movies roll on - one after the next, and I hear that familiar voice whilst napping, I know that I'm missing a good one.
he did the voiceover for an animated version of the house of usher called extraordinary tales was perfect his voice as an old man is even better then when he was young. i watch it to fall asleep many times
ive always missed the old fashion black and white horror movies cant beat them espeically nowadays horror movies now cant compare from the stuff they had back then
I too, never heard of this. Black and white Chris Lee horror? Wow! American International in 1964 was producing #1 box office Annette & Frankie Beach Party hits, yet, this was B&W. GREAT! Thanks.
These Retro Classics were aimed at teenage boys--and their Daddys!...it worked wonders for British Hammer Films that always seemed to have a lush female in low-cleavage nightgown wondering barefoot(!) through the woods in a misty haze on their Movie Posters!
An excellent and beautiful movie. Unfortunately, Gothic horror has long since fallen by the wayside. I sure wish that young people of today knew that you don't need sex and gore in a film in order for it to be intruiging and frightening.
Christopher Lee was once described as an actor who "refuses nothing except blows", he earned and acquired this description as he was renowned in the industry for never refusing a part in any film regardless of its calibre, the paycheck was all that mattered. This is how his film career includes some of the critically acclaimed worst films ever released. Terror in the Crypt (Italian title: La cripta e l’incubo; also known as The Vampire's Crypt, Crypt of the Vampire, Crypt of Horror, La Malecicion De Los Karlstein and Carmilla was one of those ultra-low budget Italian-Spanish badly dubbed films that were churned out by MEC Cinematografica. The screenplay was by Tonino Valerii and Ernesto Gastaldi, according to Valerii, the script was written in three days, while Gastaldi stated that it was written in 24 hours.
Christopher Lee was born to be in horrors.....from his looks and stature....and that voice....it oozes the dark side and the supernatural.....known as the Prince of Darkness......but definitely the King of Horrors
Two minutes to fix the wheel on the carrage has to be a world record! Send those guys to Nascar! The girl who plays Laura in this classic is gorgeous! She's probably dead by now. Sad!
I have Lust for a Vampire, which was the 3rd in the Hammer Karnstein trio. All gd fun at an all girls continental finishing school ☺ complete with a creepy Ralph Bates... Fangtastic, i thoroughly recommend ✌
Hammer had Frankenstein and Dracula in color in the late 50s with C Lee starring. It was ahead of its time. Shocking to see in color...like going from 2D to 3D with the sight of blood in red. B&W feels sooo....1930s ....like in Bela Lugosi land. I guess they had their reasons. Certainly atmospheric with all the background sounds combined.
When I was a kid in the 80's, these gothic horror movies were already old. I watched them on Friday Fright Night every weekend when I could get away with it. I don't ever remember then having this much of a sexual undertone, though. Must've just been too young to understand or pick up on it, though.
I watched these kinda movies back then on the.USA channel. It was Saturday 12 noon and Commander USA's Groovey Movies and then at 8 pm Saturday Nightmares many of which can be found here on UA-cam.Fortunately I didn't have to try to get away with it.My mom would watch them too :)
It takes 25 minutes to get there, but as soon as I saw the coach accident, where the mother asked if her daughter could stay for awhile, I knew I was watching another adaptation of "CARMILLA". In addition to several movies, I've also seen 2 different comics versions.
LOL, classic! I love to do those "If A and B had a baby" things too. My favorite is If John Garfield and Mickey Dolenz had a baby it would look like Johnny Damon
Really enjoyed this movie. Started goofy, but pulled me in. Many unexpected layers. Scenes and locations were awesome. Hope they colorize it someday.......
does anyone recall a 50s move about a man who is accidentally locked inside his wifes mausoleum as night begins to fall? one of the creepiest films I've seen
2 Peter 2:12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
I thought this was very good for mid 60's gothic horror, and sticks fairly close to the Le Fanu story (with some enhancements, perhaps this was the introduction of the Karstein Family as modern horror celebrities', leading to appearances on Scooby Doo and in the Batman universe) . It seems like Francis Ford Coppola took a lot of inspiration and copied the scenes of the two women in the garden for his 1992 "Bram Stoker's Dracula", ( he also copied a few scenes from "Symphony of Horror"). In the scene where the winged devil is standing behind Laura's bed, it looks a lot like the middle eastern statue that appears as the devil in "The Exorcist", I wonder if they took inspiration from this movie or if they saw the prop on a back lot somewhere and decided to use it?
Black & white Italian Gothic Horror is some of the best! BTW for those of you who also love Barbara Steele, she just turned 86 in December.
Thanks Charles, I'm so glad you're still alive. I loved all your films.
I still have it on VHS. Pretty good atmospheric horror flick. 👍👍
Barbara steel was my favorite horror actress back in the day.❤@@rafaelramirez1507
Barbara Steele is the iconic horror actress.

Hi Cute, Christopher was just built for fun horror, wasn't he?? I mean, I could never yell, hey Chris!!! He just deserved mysterious respect somehow? What say you??
Did he do the dubbing for this? That wasn't always the case in these Italian films.
Sin duda el gran Christopher Lee es uno de los mejores actores de películas de terror y suspenso, por su gran talento y profesionalismo.
Wow!! one of the few C. Lee films I havent seen.. Thanks so much for the download.. there are still people who appreciate this stuff...
like me! more please!
Agreed. One of my favorites. Love the Gothic atmosphere and mood. Wish they'd release it on blu-ray.

Karmala is an extra in this. Wait til Trump finds out
An interesting variation of Carmilla, I certainly enjoyed it, thank you for posting it.
No movies like this anymore.....so sad....I love these
I LOOOOOVE OLDIES BUT GOODIES, BLACK N WHITE,THANK U FOR LOADING IT UP!!!!👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
that scene with the hunchback hanging from the bell with his poor dog frantically pulling at his foot is nightmarish surreality at it best
I grew up on these films......thanks for upload!
Thanks for uploading. Slow paced gothic horror - but well worth a watch.
Sir Christopher makes anything he's in worth seeing.

Even something like Twins Of Evil, which I think is a poor movie, given a choice between that and Saw I'm going to go with Twins Of Evil. Sheesh.
Great film!!Christopher Lee made this a real Gem with his aristocratic air and sophistication!!!!
See modern directors?
Shaking the camera is not a requirement but is actually an annoyance!

I'm only 12 or so minutes into this film! However, I'm very intrigued, for I myself am a fan of Gothic cult and mystery.

I have never seen this one before. Christopher Lee was a handsome devil. Good movie, thank you for posting.
Watched this on Fright Night on WKBW Buffalo when I was 9...had some really intense nightmares I remember

I remember seeing old horror movies at the movies when they weren't old. Oh,nooooo, that's too scary.

Probably many movies were being made as black and white even though the general trend was toward color
If you like "Terror in the Crypt", check out " The Blancheville Monster".
Completely agree. Love the old ones. Noir films too.

Yeah. The ole black and white corny horror flicks while eating popcorn with that special someone.

See hanging dead man, remain calm. See dead man's hand cut off, scream and run.
I love Christopher Lee , he was so handsome and elegant, and had such a great voice
He came from Italian nobility and his cousin is British actress Harriet Walters, who resembles Christopher.
there's always some chick running around in a nightgown in the woods in these scary movies

Good movie but I like it better when Christopher Lee plays the vampire he was so handsome
José Campos, our leading man, was exceptionally handsome.

The script for this movie was adaptated by Hammer for a sort of remake titled "The Vampire Lovers " with Peter Cushing (1970)!
But with pointless nudity
