Super smart. The breeder box is clear so it’ll actually photosynthesize more from ambient light compared to an all black refugium with a small clear slit like this.
Would you be able to do a follow up on the HOB refugium for the African cichlid tank? Is it helping to keep the nitrate down and if so, by how much before putting on the hob refugium?
It definitely is helping. How much though is a great question. In my 210 gallon Tank, overstocked, Its not making a significant impact on tank nitrates only because of the size of the refugium compared to the tank. But it definitely is working because the plants in the refugium are constantly growing up and out of it and I have to harvest them and start over and then new growth occurs.
Hmmm! I might need to build something like this. I don't think this would fit, but something like it would be great because I want to grow some watercress and other herbs using tank water, and that'd be a great way to do it!

Don’t fall for the marketing, they’re only priced that much because they think they’re smart enough to upsell empty hob filters to suckers.

You could add some bio media to the bottom of the box, yea. But there’s no mechanical filtration here, and a regular hob doesn’t have a specific lighting setup.
That hob will do nothing to purify water on top of that doing more than 25% water changes will take nutrients away from the plants. It’s like trying to roller skate on ice. Fish waste is Mother Natures way of balancing an ecosystem. But if it works for you GREAT.👊🏻
I already showed the evidence that you're wrong. Also, a blanket statement like "25% water change will take nutrients away from plants" is very ignorant. If you think a 25% water change on a tank with 80PPM of nitrate and 2ppm of phosphate will starve plants of nutrients you've got a lot to learn. This channel can help you 😁
@@KaveManAquatics your still learning I’m 82 keeping marine and fresh water fish since I was nine I also studied marine and fresh water biology went to Cornell UNIVERSITY OF WHICH I have a degree. @@freddievara8649 You know your original statement is right up there right 👆 At 82 years old and all that education, there’s still room to learn how to UA-cam.
Big water changes take away the nutrients plants need to thrive they do add chemicals such as chlorine and chloramine, also traces of arsenic, copper, and a host of other chemicals. Do you know the price for this one?
It’ll be about 100-150
Like a glove
11:00 yes its me
So essentially it's a empty HOB filter then filled with plants
Plus a light, yup.
Can you kill your fish from exhaustion like from a wave maker??
I wouldn’t cut the frame of the aquarium
I’ve already done it in the past for light elevated rails. It’s been cut for 3 years.
What kind of snails are in your sump? How do you keep their population under control?
I have no idea. So far they've stayed in the sump. Either that or theyre getting eating immediately if they make it into the tank 😁
Wow I love it But can’t afford it 😂 🙏✌️🇨🇦
isnt this another hang on back filter with nicer box haha
You could add some bio media to the bottom of the box, yea. But there’s no mechanical filtration here, and a regular hob doesn’t have a specific lighting setup.
Sign me up I can’t wait to get one!!!!!!!!!
Will definitely let you guys know when they come available 😁
😂 lol at those complicated steps
😁😁
Add shrimp and snails
What you showed last time is basically the APC water tester we all have is terrible and does not accurately test Nitrates.
I havent confirmed that yet...It could be that I had a bad test kit. Will be confirming this soon. Stay tuned 😁
There are plants that Africans won’t bother if anchored correctly 😊
All Africans, just like all plants, are not the same
That hob will do nothing to purify water on top of that doing more than 25% water changes will take nutrients away from the plants.
I said 25% water changes periodically is all that’s needed to maintain trace elements. I was also an avid scuba diver. This is my take on the matter it would be nicer not to call someone ignorant. Your a new to this hobby I’m not cheers😎
Many hobbyists have lost whole aquariums doing big water changes the internet is full of them. You’re just lucky so far. Nature is your best friend if you give it a chance 😃
@@KaveManAquatics 80 ppm nitrate is nothing it just mean your system is working we test 400 to 600 and fish were fine [ fresh water ]
Seems like an over priced HOB
Whats not over priced in this hobby? or in any hobby!
I use a tote hooked up to my canister filter crack the blinds no light. Works great😊
Fish look great👊🏻👌
I buy plants at Walmart clip them to the tank soil and all. Works great
Fish waste is a great fertilizer just balance how much is removed. The best system is aquaponics 😃
frist
So fast you mispelled it, lol
Lol total rip off for $250-$350. Aquaclear 110 could do the same for $100.
I literally said this unit will cost $100-$150…
@@KaveManAquatics your link to the website says otherwise. A comparable model to the Aquaclear 110 is still over $200 and the larger unit is around $350 for slightly more plastic 👎👎👎
Edit $266 with cheap 7 watt led
@alex46801 Listen to my words, and read the text with focus instead of hatred. Things might clear up for you. But I understand if they still don’t 🤷🏼♂️
@@KaveManAquatics what are you on? It clearly says $266 for a comparable model to the Aquaclear 110.
You are clearly biased since you either got paid or received the unit for free.
No hate at all dude. I'm informing the community of better options out there unlike you.
Drake??? Unsubscribed
🤣 Bye Felicia 👋
Hey Kev, what kind of pothos holder are you using? I can't find any that will fit the rim of my aqueon tanks. Thanks in advance 👊🏾
