    Just want to say that I've been watching all your videos and nobody explains the basics as well as the advanced like you do. After watching this video I immediately ordered 2 Seachem Tidal 75's, and I've had them for about a week and a half now and I'm actually seeing the positive results of these HOB's. Thank you for making this video because it has truly educated me.

      @@patbrewer-felix2235 You must either have too little poly fil or too much. I just did this beginner aquarium enthusiast 3yrs now. I decided to do this method a week ago after ordering my Tidal 110. Set it up 2 days ago with just the polyfil first. Then today will add the purigen. No overfill with just poly fil yet. Try it again. I have high hopes for this. Good luck.

    This video was posted with perfect timing. I’ve been researching the Tidal filter for a while now. Reading reviews and looking to see who offered this filter at the best price. I want to use the filter for the same purpose of this video, as a polishing filter. I have a overstocked 55 gallon Cichlid tank. I’m using a Fluval FX6 and a Fluval 407 and wanted a add a HOB filter as a polisher. Thanks for making this video Kev. Seeing the features compared to reading the features sealed the deal for me. Now all we needed was for the company to give you a code for your Subscribers to make a purchase. I will be entering the contest, wish me luck LOL. Keep the videos coming Kev. I've always loved Tidal HOBs! I also love to use over-filtration. I have a 75G with a Fluval FX-6 and I have a 36G bow front that I use the Tidal 110 for. The Tidal is whisper quiet and keeps my water crystal clear. For the Tidal setup, I use the coarse pad at the bottom, then a polish fill, then a bag of Purigen, then the biomedia bag included which helps hold everything down. I'll never use any other HOB than Tidal!! In addition, for both aquarium filters, I use a large pre-filter sponge for the intake! It make s a HUGE difference on the amount of gunk that gets caught and extends the filter maintenance even further, which in turn prevents me from disturbing all the beneficial bacteria I have in my filters!

    I just put an FX6 and 407 on my 90 gallon overstocked peacock tank but kept seeing particles in the water. Thankfully I stumbled across this video! I had a spare Tidal 110 laying around! Stuffed it with some polyfil and within a few hours the water was crystal clear! As usual, thanks for the tip, Kev!

  • @migueleespinosa2632

    Kevin you are getting better and better with your presentations. The polyfil is a quick fix but not optimal in the long run. I prefer dense foam approach. If good quality it will be reusable for many months, if not years. Simply rinse, squeeze it out and done. I've own the Tidal 110 and definitely recommend it. Having a surface skimmer is a major plus for oxygen exchange and gas release, many overlook its importance. Please let your audience know that purigen is rechargeable unlike carbon. Be blessed.

    • @brianmizway9324
      @brianmizway9324 Рік тому +1

      @rodolfoavila466 normal package of carbon has to be discarded after a mth or so cuz the carbon gets used up and won't absorb oders and junk anymore. So there is a product called purigen that comes in these pouches that also contain and act like carbon I guess. Well it too will lose its abilities just like regular carbon but somehow there is a way to clean and restore the purigen package so that it can actually be used again. That's why they call it rechargeable cuz you can restore it to be used again without having to throw it away every mth.

    Great idea! I watched this video a few weeks ago and decided to try this. 3 months ago, I went with a Cascade 1000 canister filter and removed my Tidal 110. The Tidal was just sitting there in the box doing nothing, so I pulled it out of "retirement". I used the blue sponge, a bunch of polyfill, then a mesh bag of Seachem matrix on top to hold the fluffy polyfill down. I turned the flow down to about 1/2, because my tank is only a 55. The Cascade 1000 does a good job by itself, but this certainly took it up a notch! My tank has never been cleaner!!!

    This looks like a blessing for someone like me. I've used many hang on the back filters and honestly I hate them for many reasons including the fact of losing some during a time of power outage come back home and the motor has burned out and my fish gasping for air
    After a lifetime of lupus with 23 surgeries already and more to come I am physically disabled and every decision I make with fish keeping or anything for that matter has to be very carefully thought out. I would be eternally grateful to have something like this to work with! Now Trying to fight with Social security for financial benefits has left me with nothing to work with except continue using my Old Biowheel HOB filters which ( everyone knows They stopped spending after short amount of time which makes them redundant?)
    I have recently become a subscriber to your channel and I have to say your way of teaching all of us is amazing:
    Your direct yet personable way of speaking to all of us not talking down to any of us is a wonderful method 😎😎 Thank you for all teachings and suggestions. Even something as simple as a money-saving way of building a beneficial bacteria instead of a canister filter as demonstrated in one of your previous videos could be a substantial savings for someone like me who is struggling with equipment that should be replaced.
    Thank you again for your awesome channel I'm very happy to be part of your fish keeping group!
    PS
    I have a large rescue group of fish and in the group are seven blood parrots in various sizes. Half of them were sick and two of them are deformed.Having never had these beautiful fish before they're incredible personalities are beyond belief! They eat out of my hand everyday and allow me to cup them in my hands and play with them in their tank.I definitely get it.. everyone should have at least One 🧠💭😎😎😎🧡
    PSS
    I'm also looking to adopt a large group of African cichlids and three synodontis catfish. Now this I'm proceeding with extreme caution because it they seem like they are a lot of work but with your Course it might give me more confidence in my 🧠 I just want my body to cooperate.

      I love to give hugs of gratitude and thanks so here you go: 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
      PS:
      I am looking to buy the equipment necessary today on Cyber Monday for the substitute for the python. To me that makes so much more sense then a python especially since water pressure is not great. With A 100 ft hose I can fit and reach to anywhere in the house and with the big enough pump I should have plenty enough water pressure to do my necessary water changes

    I've got the Tidal 35 on my 10-gallon tank. This is the first time I've ever done a tank that has all plants and natural stuff. And the Tidal 35 is amazing. My water is Crystal Clear always and on top of that, it's very easy to clean. Since it's my only filter, I do end up using the rocks, I put them in the bag that it came with. On top of the Rocks I put basically but you're using but I cut it into the shape I want for polishing, and I have three layers then on top of that I have another foam block. This is basically where the water comes out and it collects anything left over because it's a fine foam and it also prevents my fish from jumping into my filter. I recently had the foam block sitting a little bit back further and I came in my room and seen a fish on my floor, and it was dead and hard and my cat was playing with it. I came to the conclusion that they were jumping upstream and running into the block and then bouncing out on top of my aquarium glass and then bouncing on the floor. I lost 3 of them this way. Anyway, I moved the foam block forward more so there's a lip and if they were to try to swim upstream, they'd hit it and then bounced straight back down I'm hoping. Wish me luck.

    I have a Tidal 55 and love it. I change it every two weeks. I have the "big blue" filter on the bottom and then subsequently finer filtration, in 3 levels, with the polishing pad on the top. I have Purigen next and Matrix on the top. (This is out of order but it does work.) I wouldn't change the Tidal 55 for the world. And it is all thanks to.....the Kaveman. The best fishkeeper on the Planet! After Christmas, I'll be ordering an 80-90 gallon tank for the living room and moving the three little tanks to a spare bedroom. Once the big boy is in place, I'll sell the two smallest tanks and save the 20 as a hospital tank. I'm really excited about doing this. I'm actually dreaming about aquariums and tropical fish. And if any of you haven't visited Kev's 3D background source do it now.

    I’m going to say to everyone, you must watch this video. After I saw this video and heard from 2 more popular UA-camrs and online reading (got to do your homework), the Seachem Tidal is the KING HOB filter. I also followed Kaveman's set up with the sponge first, then Polyfill in the middle "like that like so” but used the rock bag medium on top that comes with Seachem filter instead of Seachem Purigen. CLEAR WATER, forget the other HOB's. Also using Seachem with polyfill is cheaper and easier as you can buy your own cheaper mediums + the pull-out filter tray is like the Lazy Suzy of the hobby...SOOO easy to change. Other filters you must use their costly proprietary filter cartridges that is such a rip-off and cloudiness don’t go away. I have Seachem Tidal 75 by the way.

    HOBs are great, the biggest bang for the buck with their biggest shortcoming being the fact that they short circuit (draw in the same water they just filtered) a good percentage of the time.
    As for brands, I am in the AQ camp. I have had numerous units over the years and never had a problem with one restarting after a power failure (very rare) or unplugging it. The one big plus of the AQ is the availability of of an aftermarket filter basket which is 100 times better than any stock basket.
    Also purigen is rechargeable as noted on the directions, you strip away what it has absorbed with bleach for a few cycles and then it is gone.

    Replaced all my aquaclear filters in July with Tidals. I bought the 110,75,and even the 35. I thought these were great filters until my female bettas were getting trapped under the basket. I had a sponge filter on all the intakes and even on the skimmer. After almost 8 females I got rid of all these filters and went to a Fluval 407 canister for my 75gal and a 207 for my 30 gallon. No more deaths.

      I do agree that canisters are the next level of filtration after HOB's. Sorry to hear you lost some fish. Never heard of fish getting trapped by the Tidal...Possible that the flow in your tank was causing them to migrate their and then couldnt get out??? Not sure, again, sorry for that loss.

    Hey Kev.. your great.. so I’m running 2 tidal 110’s on my Datnoid 150g… both set up the same 2 blue sponges, polyfil, carbon, bio rings, matrix in separate bags. Should I just have 2 blue sponges the matrix, bio rings in one filter #1…and just 2 blue sponges polyfil and purgin in the other #2….as a polishing filter? And #2 would need maintenance more often than #2. Can I make changes all at once or during water change. Thanks

    • @KaveManAquatics
      @KaveManAquatics  Рік тому +1

      That all depends on how much bacteria your tank needs. Most likely you will still be able to grow more than enough even with the second filter being used for polishing (bacteria will still grow on your blue sponges) but you want to make sure you don’t get any ammonia spikes if/when you make the switch. Try it out and see how your tank does. But keep Prime and Stability on hand just in case.

    I do have a 110 and I really liked that filter until my Plecos and Shrimp started breeding. I had a prefilter to keep the babies safe but the surface skimmer and the intake where the motor is caused problems. I went so far as to take the motor cover off and putting some filter floss in there, but then it kept making some horrific noise. It was pulling air in from the surface skimmer and losing its prime. I ended up going back to my AquaClears for now. So, this is a great filter for not too small of fish, it’s bad for shrimp and baby Pleco’s. IMO.
