Okay but don’t forget TO BRING YOUR MASKS. Most universities will require you to wear a mask at all times. Buy a laptop if you haven’t already AND BUY THE NECESSITIES BEFORE THE DECOR.
I love this videos so much, In my town Saudi Arabia we don’t have college like that, we don’t have a dorm, college is like a school you go to your classes and back to your home, but we have a lot colleges, it’s so much easier.
Notes from a second year! -If you want SOFT SOFT sheets the Jersey modal ones from BB&B are super nice, those are the ones I got and I am in LOVE with them -the side-pocked for your bed is nice, but can get tiring since you can't put your water in there or a lot of stuff. If you have the money a bedshelfie is great, ESP if you're lofting. I didn't but I use mine a lot since I don't have a night stand -Wash bags are a great idea. You want to use them for bras, socks, and masks (separately). It's a safe bet the dryer's will suck in some way, either they don't dry things properly or they SEAR your clothes, etc. My school uses big industrial ones and you can choose low for damp and medium for all the lettering peeling off of your shirts 💖✨ so nice! Be prepared to buy a drying rack/come up with some solutions for that -CANNOT RECOMMEND THE CART ENOUGH provided you'll have room in your car/in storage when you need to pack it. I put makeup in the middle tier, snacks on the bottom tier, and my skincare and toiletries on the top tier. -The air purifier might be better for COVID, especially since you'll be living with someone else. -For the Brita, another great choice. Most mini fridges won't fit a brita of that size, you may have to take out one of the rows but definitely worth it for cool clean water! Other recommendations I have: -Depends on where you're going to school but a standing fan and a desk fan are definitely useful! I'm in Mass and none of the dorms have AC, so the first few weeks and last few weeks of school are unbearable unless you have a fan. -square storage boxes (those folding fabric ones) are super useful, especially for upper closet storage and for bookcases. I recommend not buying them until you get to school though. -a cloth tape measure is useful, it can be used for clothing measurements if needed and is good for measuring things in your room if you need to/want to order something else. -If you get a nice full plush rug definitely get a vacuum, no question. There are cheap options but if you can spring for it get one of those nice handheld dyson, I have friends who RAVE about them. I had to vacuum my entire 5x8 rug last year with a teeny tiny handheld 😭 -Curtains and a tension rod!!! Don't get them before you go to school, but it makes a world of difference. I got blackout curtains but if you wanted a more aesthetic look and light doesn't bother you at night get lighter curtains. If you have radiators in your dorm, do NOT let them touch the radiators or you'll definitely get fined. -FLOOR LAMP or fairy lights or alternative lighting. The fluorescent overheads can really do your eyes in. Before buying any hanging lights check the fire safety code. If they don't allow ANY fairy lights they will tell you, but they may have dorm specific rules they will inform you of once you get there. (They did that last year, just no lights on the pipes essentially). -Two days worth of dishes and some way to transport them to the sink. I had to go down three flights of stairs to wash my dishes since there was only one kitchenette for my dorm. Esp with Covid you're going to be eating more meals in your dorm probably just to avoid the dining hall (if it's even open, mine is takeout only). -Those drying mats are okay but you really have to clean them properly and let them dry or they will get moldy :/ -A scrubby brush for straws and for your water bottles so they don't get moldy. Canteen or Nalgene ones are good -One throw pillow, you do not need more than that. Mine is one of those swishy sequin ones -Lots and lots and LOTS of masks, you're gonna go through them way faster at school and don't want to pay $3-6 every time you run through them just to wash them. I would suggest just learning how to make them and churning a bunch out with some fabric, it's less expensive than buying a bunch of masks and the pattern I found is double-layered form-fitting with a filter pocket, so it's more protective. -Also some art supplies even if you don't do art often, it can get real boring and lonely quarantined
So is Walmart and Amazon, and if you’re like me and going to college out of state (better yet, on the other side of the country) Amazon is a blessing 😂
Idk if you have more stuff for your dorm but I HIGHLY recommend a regular size trash can instead of those little desk ones. My roommate and I were constantly taking trash out because the trash was so small and eventually switched over to a bigger one
Mine is not opening, I go to SNHU, all other schools in NH are opening fall 2020. And I am from Massachusetts. Umass Lowell is opening in the fall but it is in Middlesex county which is the only county that has the highest amount of cases in the state. So let me know where the sense in that is. 🤦♀️
This hit me hard. I’m only 30 mins from my college so my parents don’t want me to live there anymore bc of corona. I really don’t wanna commute-I was ecstatic to move out
girl... you’re saving a shit ton of money. trust me, you dont want thousands of loans and majority of it being it from just LIVING there. you’re lucky🥴
*me silently freaking out thinking I was ahead on shopping for my dorm when in reality I’m behind cause now I’m seeing a bunch of youtube videos for the upcoming year* 😊
I had the same desk lamp for my freshman year last year and it was amazing!! Everyone loved it and it was great for studying late at night when my roommate was asleep.
Literally going into my 4th year of university in the UK, no idea why I’m watching this. We don’t even have Bed Bath and Beyond over here... but I just love looking at homeware 😍

My college requires first years to live in the dorms and charge $500 more for a single dorm per semester, half of my essentials were first aid and stuff for if I get sick + sanitizer
For anyone who hasn’t gotten anything yet, I’ve been through dorm life... really good items she got! There’s a few things though I promise you won’t need. You don’t need washer bags as I promise you’ll never use them, you won’t ever use a steamer, most days you’re not even going to change out of pajamas for class, dorms tend to change out air filters very often so you don’t need an air purifier unless you have a medical condition, and Brita is cool but most dorms have water fountains on every floor with water bottle fillers. Choose items wisely!
You should consider getting an electric port with a lot of charging areas because you have a lot of things that plug into an electric thingy in the wall.
hi i’m going to be a freshman this year!! i jumped out of my seat when i seen this, nobody is uploading back to school vids like usual. i hit subscribe! i’m so excited to watch!
I'm also going to live in the dorm this semester and I'm curious: why did you choose to stay in a dorm instead of continuing with online learning? Personally, it's because I need in-person teaching, especially in math. It was a really tough decision to make though! Anyone else who wants to answer can also!!
I didn’t know university would let you dorm in. Is it for the upcoming fall semester and where at? I just want to know because I got into Northridge and UC Santa Cruz so it’s really far from home. Debating where to go

I get what you are saying about the mattress topper, but I would just go ahead and get one beforehand. Dorm mattresses at NOTORIOUS for being horrible. never thought i’d be jealous over someone else’s lamp lol
I just spent the money on the lamp because she bought it 😂
Kaitlyn S do you know if i can get it anywhere online? Im not from the states so ive no bed bath and beyond
Benedicta Agha I have no idea. I ordered it off bed bath & beyond
Kaitlyn S no prob. I typed the link into amazon and found it.
I didn't get this comment till I saw the lamp. Yup I'm jealous as well

I go to college across the country and I'm glad my college offered me online classes for next year because I'd rather not travel in a pandemic lol

I got a 4 inch memory foam topper my freshman year and it was more expensive but it was worth the investment. My roommate went for a 2 inch topper with the grooves in it, and her back was killing her all year. I would just get it now because I bet it’ll be one of those things that lots of people don’t bring and later decide they need, and you don’t want to be stuck on one of those HORRIBLE beds...trust me.
Will you make a link list for the things you got? I’m going to Columbus State in Georgia so I’m starting to shop!
