Pro tip get the tiny bottles of detergent from the dollar tree to carry around but the large ones to save money and just refill in the dorm
Or optionally you could buy a box of detergent from any big box store and put it into a container of some kind to take with you to the laundromat whenever you do laundry!

Oh wow, I made a list and it's only like $100 excluding clothes, laptop and fridge. I opted for more expensive stuff since I'm eco-friendly-ish. I can get the rest by mail while I'm set and comfy and my folks give me their old stuff like containers
Try physically visiting your college first/ contacting admissions so they can help you get in touch with another student who can video chat with you and show you the ins and outs of the dorm. Really helped for me, it knocked like $40 worth of stuff off my list like bed risers, mattress topper, plastic drawers, desk chair, I was also able to see how much wall and closet space I had.
Mom of four girls plus a foster daughter here. Sorry to tell you but you’re not done. Don’t forget; toiletries. (All those creams, shampoos, hair products, make up, facial products, fem products etc. if you use it, you need extra to take with you. You will be living there for months before you can come home.
Second: groceries. Even if you’ve got a meal plan, you’re going to want snacks, coffees, teas, cokes, water etc. in addition to ramen, easy Mac and anything fast that can be made in the microwave. The dining halls are not twenty four hours a day. You will need some form of your own food, and snacks.
Also don’t forget; school supplies, desk supplies, a laptop, possibly a printer and paper, cleaning supplies.

I would actually recommend healthier food for snacks because you can find ways to get healthy food for cheap and it's so much better for you.

@@simplyboppingK I agree. Whatever you need to prepare to be comfortable, that’s what you should do. You’re going to be living there for the entire school year, you should try to be as comfortable as is possible.

As someone who just graduated college, I can’t stress enough: get something to strap your mattress topper to your mattress. I used duct tape, you can buy something for it too. One of the most annoying things for me as someone who moves a lot in their sleep was my mattress topper CONSTANTLY falling off or warping after just a week of using it. Just having your sheets around it isn’t enough. I bought a cheap topper my freshman year and a really nice expensive one my sophomore year and they both did it. No mattress topper is immune
Strapping it across the mattress multiple times makes it uncomfortable sleeping, so I duct taped it on all four corners and along all four sides so it stayed but it still was comfortable

I have been stressing non stop since the moment I found out I am leaving home for college lol so this haul was so helpful in finding out what I still need😁❤️ I am moving in a week and a half and I have some things but I still feel like I'm missing some stuff if you what I mean??😄
I like that all of these items are things that you will ACTUALLY use. BUT I will say, you do not need a brita. It won't fit in your fridge and you'll have less room for food. Also, you do NOT need a mattress topper at all.
lol the mattresses at my school are literally like the pads that go in a diaper changing thingy 💀. I will def need a mattress topper.

I think it depends, but I know that mattress toppers are an absolute necessity for most dorm beds ❤
it depends on the micro fridge… some have a door that it’ll fit on
locking trash cans are nice because if you bump into it it doesn’t open. or in my case at home my kitchen one so my dogs don’t get into the trash

I have the money and still don't feel the need to buy things too quickly. I've only spent around $150 and I'm ok, just take your time and breathe, half of the stuff is decor and storage bins wich are some of the easiest to buy aside from electronics.
