I am a mom going to college so I don't live in a dorm, but I do have my own office/guest room that I have set up like a dorm room because I never had the chance to go away. I have a mini fridge in the room, I even have a lofted bed for the whole feel of a dorm room. My kids enjoy the college feel even though they are in elementary school.

Yes the color of the kislux is beautiful and it is a great decision, maybe one day they will add feet and straps. It would be nice to have a bigger bag during the colder months when we have to store gloves, beanies, scarves, etc…

Do NOT be the tote girly... USE A BACKPACK. It is more practical and they last longer. Your back/shoulder will THANK YOU.
Also depending on what degree you are in, you do NOT need a Macbook. If you are in a creative program, you absolutely do need one. BUT for basic majors like social work you do NOT need a macbook.. There's no point in spending $1300+ on a Macbook for using Word.
You do NOT need an iPad again, unless you are in a creative degree. Even then, you can take notes the old fashioned way if you don't already have one. It is pointless to have both a mac and an iPad. I bought an iPad my junior year and it was more irritating trying to take notes on it when professors talk fast... It's easier to just type them and then write them out BY HAND on paper later.
You do NOT need a shower caddy if you live in a suite, just get a three tier cart and split it with your roommates. I lived in a suite and our bathrooms were cleaned every week. If you live in a suite and your shower IS cleaned every week, you don't need shower shoes.
You do NOT need a steamer.
You are NOT going to want a laundry bag, they will BREAK.
You DO NOT need a brita... DON'T DO IT. It takes up so much space in your mini fridge. Also, get real dishes/silverware and tupperware. You are going to want to smuggle food out of the dining halls.
On the topic of dining hall, the first semester, get a dining plan. Any other semesters, if you do not go there a lot, DO NOT get a dining plan. It is cheaper to just get your own food at Walmart/aldi!!!
You do NOT need a printer. A lot of colleges give you a certain amount of printing and I don't think I even used all of mine throughout my time in college.
Be wary of space heaters they can be a fire hazard.
