- 🔷 0:00 INTRODUCTION - HOW TO SWAP BANDS ON AN APPLE WATCH 4
In this video, we look at how to swap bands on an Apple Watch. By the the end of this video you should be able to change your Apple Watch bands with ease.
Changing an Apple Watch band can be very fiddly. When I first attempted to swap the bands on my Apple Watch it didn't go smoothly, including putting on the bands upside down / back to front. So we'll be covering everything you need to ensure your watch band is fitted correctly.
🔷 BAND COMPATIBILITY
In terms of band compatibility, always make sure that the band / strap that you're fitting corresponds to the Apple watch case size you have.
Apple states on its website: "You can use a band that’s designed for Apple Watch (1st generation) or Apple Watch Series 1, 2, and 3 with Apple Watch Series 4 and Apple Watch Series 5, as long as the sizes are compatible. Bands for 38mm and 40mm cases work with each other, and bands for 42mm and 44mm cases work with each other. Bands designed for Apple Watch Series 4 and Apple Watch Series 5 work with any previous version of Apple Watch. Bands designed for other Apple Watch models also work with Apple Watch Series 4 and Apple Watch Series 5." SOURCE: support.apple.com/en-gb/guide...

The Apple Watch shown is the 40 mm space grey aluminium case with black sports band.
🔷 NEW STRAP/BAND DETAILS
The bottom section of the band that came with my watch is too large. I'll be swapping a medium / large for a small / medium band. I'll still be showing you how to remove & refit the top section.
🔷 0:23 REMOVAL OF EXISTING BANDS
Place a soft cloth on a flat surface so you don’t scratch the face of your watch at any point.
One of the common mistakes people make is to put the band on back to front. And even though it can be fiddly to take off / put back on, never force the bands into the slots.
Turn watch over. On the Apple watch there is a release button for each band as shown. Push the release button in with your nail. This can be very awkward. Whilst doing this, apply some gentle pressure to the side of the band & start to ease the band off gently. It's advisable, once band has been released, to put watch on a flat surface to complete the full removal of the band. Repeat for the top band. You're left with watch face / apple watch case.
🔷 1:22 FITTING OF NEW BANDS
In preparation for fitting bands, it's a good idea to lay out the watch in the way the watch is to be put back together. Apple watch shown is worn with side button on top right. You can tell if bands (original Apple sports bands) are on correct way - sizes are printed on inside of bands (shown 40mm and S/M).
To fit band, hold the face / case in one hand & top band section in the other, ensuring band faces the correct way as shown. Slide band gently into slot - you'll hear a 'click' when band is engaged into place. Repeat for the bottom section. Key part is to make sure that the bands are fitted correctly & don't slide!
🔷 2:03 HOW TO TELL IF BAND IS FITTED INCORRECTLY - BACK TO FRONT
If you've fitted the bands, but they move side to side without clicking into place, this is a sign the band has been fitted back to front. To solve, turn band over, refit & wait for it to 'click' into place. Repeat for other section. If you're unable to fit the bands correctly, do not wear your Apple Watch. Best seek help from the place you purchased your Apple watch.

I have no release buttons on my Series 4 watch. What do I do? I got one strap off but cannot get a new one on.
What if there is no “click” when replacing the band? Is the band secure?
I switched to this band but it only had one slot. No second slot for excess material. What do I do about that? Cut off excess? Don’t really want to do that.
Hi Kat King. The band shown has only one slot. I inserted the excess material on the bottom section my band through the hole (on my large band) - the excess material sat on the inside of my band. It was okay, just. But I did change to a smaller medium sized band so I had less material on the inside of the band. Made it much more comfortable to wear. Did you manage to fasten the band correctly? Thanks.
