Please, Misty, more of this kind of freeform creation. As much as I love it when a "traditional" pattern comes together, I long for a more modern, adventurous approach. I have made a few pieces, winging it on my own and loved the process and the results but, I have to admit, a little guidance, such as you offer here, helps immensely to inspire. This is a beautiful piece! Thanks for demonstrating it for us.
Me too, Valerie! I’ve been planning a bedspread quilt with an ocean theme and Misty’s project would look awesome on the wall of my bedroom. I would love to see yours. Have you posted a photo anywhere?
I love how you give us different types of sewing projects. I for one like to see creative ideas, even if I don't necessary want to make that project it gets the creative juices flowing. Again, thank you for all the work you put into helping us look beyond traditional quilting and just create.
Wow, this gets the creative juices flowing! I have so many ideas running through my head of different ways to do something similar. I love the idea of a pillow, different types of gradients, rainbow colors… Thanks Misty!
Looks super cool in those colors….my first thought was a sensory project. Maybe I’ll try it as a smaller square in a lap blanket, which would be great for kids with special needs or possibly Project Linus. Thanks for the tutorial!
I think this could be cute as a scrapbuster for random leftover jelly roll strips or yardage cut into strips. I think it would be interesting in more vibrant or varied colors, but to each their own!
❤❤❤❤❤ THANK YOU, MISTY‼️ I am planning to make a bedspread quilt that resembles the layers of the ocean. I have been collecting various shades/textures of blues and greens for several years. I haven’t found the right pattern yet, BUT in the meantime, your project would be GREAT WALL ART. It will be a good way to begin and may inspire me to create my own ocean design. You and MSQC ROCK‼️ 😊
Cool idea👌. I'd like to try this with thrifted fabrics and maybe handpainted calico or sheeting. I know it would be more work (having to cut the strips), but I could prepare fabrics over a period of time. Thanks for the inspiration, Misty. Your monochrome version looks great - I love stroke-able art😍💖
This is what perplexes me. Are the side (short edges of each strip “pinked”? Otherwise it would just unravel with time… or are edges captured within the facing or binding?
I've been wanting to do a quilt based on a book. This would be perfect for the edge. And if you wanted to make it with a smaller profile, you could us the 1.5 inch rolls, or mix them up... Hmmm.... 2.5" squares on point interspersed with the rows...
I have been walking around with a similar idea, but pushing it ahead of me. I like the simplicity of yours, but in my house it would collect a lot of dust, so vacuuming would be neccesasry often
Misty, I am curious. Did you use all of the strips on your project? I am starting and am excited to do this. How close together did your strips wind up? Loving this.
Please more modern and circle patterns. I'm pretty tired of half square triangles. 😂 You can definitely do this without ironing. It would look more organic.
This is not really my styl but it looks pretty interesting. But did I understood right, these are all raw edges 🤔 and it dosen't fray??? Okay that's a kind of a project I could make for my granddaughter, she would love it. Many greetings from Germany ❤
I read a few remarks wondering about the ‘waste’ of fabric in this type of project. I fall along that opinion of it as wasteful. I’d be more open to using scraps, as it would perhaps be along the lines of using fabric that has almost gone to the end of the road as per options available to it. But these fabrics are not inexpensive. And as much as I feel ‘to each their own’. For me. It’s a no.
Wasteful? Omg…She’s using half whole strips…wasteful? Seriously, omg she didn’t even hack a bunch of fabric up and can easily use the rest of the strip….geeze people, no one asked your opinion on her creation.

Misty- This is a really neat project. An interesting way to use a jelly roll. I picture it in dark blues to green to look like the ocean...

Misty, bravo for breaking the quilt stereotype. We are a creative bunch 😊
that would look interesting as a pillow. Very cool!

This is genius. Looks simple to do and looks so modern and fun! Way to go, Misty.

How cute would this be as a tote bag?!
Mist Hello!!
Thank you so much for show all of us this beautiful art project!
Happy Quilting!! 😊
Thanks for sharing this project! Something this different without being difficult attracts my interest. Looking forward to trying this out.
Very creative, Misty. I love it. There are so many ways to make beautiful things with fabric. Thank you so much for sharing. ❤😊
I love different things to do with fabrics. Very creative ❤
Loving this project idea so much!!!! I can see this is in my entryway as I decorate in grey, white, black and red. Oh would this be fun!
This would be a cool throw pillow!
Wonderful concept and execution, congratulations! Please, a link to the 3D fiber art that inspired your work!
Really like this idea! Great use of extra jelly rolls in my stash! I may do a few of these for my sisters and brothers!

Wow Misty it's fabulous. I can't believe I missed this on my feed.
Love this! Thank you so much for sharing your creation!
I want to do this , Love the process. I like the blacks to gray , thank you.
Hi Misty :D Great job ! It looks like the bottom of a mushroom lol !
This is different. I really like it!
Beautiful!! I love it!! Would make beautiful gifts for friends and family
I think this would make a great rug!!
That is so cool! Very creative art for a wall - would like to see it in person.
Lovely project Misty. Thank you😊
What a neat idea.❤❤
Love your tutorials, great job !
That's very pretty, Misty
What did you do around side and top and bottom? Bring backing forward?
This is what perplexes me. Are the side (short edges of each strip “pinked”? Otherwise it would just unravel with time… or are edges captured within the facing or binding?
How interesting, very modern.
Fun project!

So creative!! I love how you try new things!!
Now this is so cool. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing.
Very Cool!
Sewwwww pretty!
Super cute
Would make a beautiful pillow in any color..
Really nice
Do the jelly toll strips need to have picked edges so they won't fray?
That’s the question I have had since i first saw the tutorial. The PFF doesn’t really explain the nuances how to finish it either.
Interesting!
Thinking this would need to be solid strips or batiks so there is no wrong side of the fabric. ???
Please more modern and circle patterns. I'm pretty tired of half square triangles. 😂
You can definitely do this without ironing. It would look more organic.
I wish you had shown us how you finished the piece- facing??
You could also vary the width of strips if was using stash to give even more life
Interesting tutorial, but I can't stop looking at the hanging quilt. Is there a tutorial for that one!?
Missy, I Love this. Thank did you use just one roll? What is the size?
What mat are you using?
Here's the mat featured: www.missouriquiltco.com/products/christopher-thompson-24-x-36-reversible-cutting-mat
❤❤❤
I'd like to know how you would hang your art. Seems like you'd want it very flat against the wall to present the best effect.
This is not really my styl but it looks pretty interesting. But did I understood right, these are all raw edges 🤔 and it dosen't fray??? Okay that's a kind of a project I could make for my granddaughter, she would love it. Many greetings from Germany ❤
Most jelly rolls are cut with a pinked edge so yes they’re raw but they won’t fray easily. Not my style either but very interesting.
I’m not a fan of this quilting art. I can see it on a pillow, but that’s about it. I’ll be interested to ask my daughter to see if she likes it.
I do,apologize but this isn’t why I watch Missouri Star! Not a problem, I just skip on by!

It doesn't fray
Tell me you have money to burn without telling me. 😂
Sorry, not my style. I only see a waste of a jelly roll.
Sorry, but it looks like a dirty furnace filter to me!
Wasteful? Omg…She’s using half whole strips…wasteful? Seriously, omg she didn’t even hack a bunch of fabric up and can easily use the rest of the strip….geeze people, no one asked your opinion on her creation.
Um nope
