But when she screws up she learns her lesson for about 5 seconds until things somehow work out for her and then continues to be obnoxious.

I wonder how they'll explain to their two children that their mother is old enough to be their father's mother too.
I watched this movie once when I was 12 and I suffered so much second-hand embarrassment from it that 10yrs later I still can't handle watching it even through a film review.

For example in some tv shows or movies you can often see two young characters (often teenagers) being completely melodramatic and act like they're in a Shakespearean novel with their romance story and one adult character on the side just being majorly annoyed or blasé by it. It's easy to poke fun at and I always laugh at these jokes but you need to have a reasonable person at one point pointing out how ridiculous everything is. That or you make the thing to interest mature adults that could get it's a satire because they know how ridiculous self-centered teenagers instead of seeing it as normal and even rooting out for the main character. Maybe that's who the book is for (I don't know didn't read it). The movie is clearly going for the relatable teenagers angle and that's why it's so unbearable because it completely normalizes her awful behavior.
“This girl makes poor choices, I hope bad things happen to her.” is the plot of this entire film in one sentence 😂

Btw in the books Georgia was selfish and cross with her friends all the time but, that was the point and that's what made it funny. She's a 14 year old. What 14 year old isn't completely full of themselves and doesn't think they can do no wrong? I don't think it translated well to a movie, though.

In book form or movie form it doesn't matter. An excessively selfish main character is never endearing or funny, it just makes me wish something horrible would happen to them.

@@miamiric6051 It can be funny if the medium is making fun of it. For example in some tv shows or movies you can often see two young characters (often teenagers) being completely melodramatic and act like they're in a Shakespearean novel with their romance story and one adult character on the side just being majorly annoyed or blasé by it. It's easy to poke fun at and I always laugh at these jokes but you need to have a reasonable person at one point pointing out how ridiculous everything is.
That or you make the thing to interest mature adults that could get it's a satire because they know how ridiculous self-centered teenagers instead of seeing it as normal and even rooting out for the main character. Maybe that's who the book is for (I don't know didn't read it). The movie is clearly going for the relatable teenagers angle and that's why it's so unbearable because it completely normalizes her awful behavior.
