Milwaukee Road 261 is one of the Midwest's premier steam locomotives for the mainline. These trips, operated for the Milwaukee Road Historical Association, traveled over the rails of the Twin Cities and Western, a Minnesota shortline. These trips operated two days, extending westward from Minneapolis over two routes; one day on the former Minneapolis & St. Louis, the other on a remnant of the old Milwaukee Road's Pacific Coast Extension, one of 261's old stomping grounds.
It's good to see 261 being handled and maintained well.
Unlike gettysburg railroad 1278
261 is underrated and has a great whistle. Both the 6 and 3 chime.... I prefer the 6 chime. It also looks amazing.
Agreed
I was actually in Minneapolis last month visiting some family and on my first day there I went and visited the friends of 261 and it was an amazing sight to see in person. I really enjoyed my visited and even my dad enjoyed it even though he isn’t a fan of trains but was impressed with their work and how good care they give to their locomotive and equipment. Hopefully I’ll get to see 261 again someday but next time operational
What else do I have to say.
261 is such a magnificent beauty
It sure is
IN 1991 I WAS ALSO WORKING WITH THE 261 RESTORATION!
THEY HAD TO CONVERT THE TENDER AXLES FROM THE BRASS FRICTION BEARINGS TO ROLLER BEARINGS!
AT THIS TIME THE LAST OF THE UNION PACIFIC GAS TURBINE LOCOMOTIVES WERE BEING SCRAPPED IN KANSAS CITY!
AFTER I WAS MADE AWARE OF THE NEED, I FOUND THE JOURNAL BOXES WOULD ALSO FIT THE 261 TENDER WHEELSETS.
I EXPEDITED REMOVAL, INSPECTED AND QUALIFIED THE PARTS AND HAD THEM SHIPPED TO MINNEAPOLIS MINNESOTA WHERE THE RESTORATION HAPPENED!
THESE WERE RATHER RARE PARTS IN THEIR DAYS TO BEGIN WITH.
What a beautiful piece of machinery. Bravo ALCo.
Great video!
Thanks!
She looks like she was finished being built yesterday that’s how good she looks
They do a fantastic job maintaining the 261
I can't believe that they are running her so well!
Without a doubt the most handsome steam engine still running.
Yea it’s so nice and well proportioned
Milwaukee Road locomotive 261 is a handsome example of a 4-8-4 type engine & the 261 is one of my personal favorite excursion service 4-8-4 engines still in operation. Milwaukee Road 261 is one of the star examples of Midwestern America excursion train service steam power that is widely famous.
Why 25 sad sacks? This is a great video with one of a handful of working steam engines! What's there NOT to love???!!!
Milwaukee Road #261 Is the most Detailed, Super Best and most favourite steam locomotive.
261 on the go
She is running the Gourmet Express this weekend.
I was actually going to go up and chase 261 during this trip but because the weather was rainy, I decided against it and figured they'll be another opportunity to.
Wow, for the TC&W, Robert Franzen opened her up that time.
It was a great show
Very nice video!
Glad you enjoyed
Outstanding video!

@@DynamoProductions-trains 😁
Impressive...
It certainly is
I really love that train
Good choice
I know where there's an old Milwaukee Road trailer here in North Carolina not far from where I'm at. Also that E unit must be working hard to haul those cars and that "boat anchor" back.
THIS IS DONE WERE IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO TURN THE WHOLE TRAIN AROUND IN AN TRACK AREA WITHOUT TURNTABLE,WYE TRACK OR LOOP TRACK!!
Milwaukee Road 261 is the legend of Minneapolis
and also Fairfield one six one
Beautiful.
Very
2:32-3:05 man I thought the video jumped to a model layout at first 😂. Thats nuts how it looks like an O gauge layout from there
This is Excellent, and I Love It a Lot! :-D
Glad you enjoyed
261 is a clean burning engine, how do they do that?
A good crew who knows how to get the most out of the old War Baby helps alot I bet.
They know their engine well.
Who was the engineer?
I sure wish I was there to see her.
261 has a real close resemblance to 844
Correct me if I'm wrong, weren't both made by Alco?
Both 261 and 844 are Alcos
Rumor is that both were on the production line at the same time, too.
Wonderful video :)
Glad you enjoyed
that's a ATSF whistle right and I know its a chime whistle but forgot what kind of chime was it 5 or 6?
6 chime

Hello
I'd love to see a doubleheader with 611 and 261 on either the Northeast Corridor, or the BNSF Railway Line.
