I'm so glad they turned it into a public area to explore. I was there with friends back in the mid 70s, when I was in High School. We were climbing around in some of the old animal areas. It was neat to explore. Police showed up and asked us to leave.
I just plowed through every one of your videos and am looking forward to more. A few suggestions: - The bunkers under Ft. MacArthur - One of the Nike missile sites - Remains of the old subway tunnels - One of the old basement speakeasies in downtown LA - The last original building at LAX, Hangar One - Maybe the Manson compound ranch I'll think of more....
Hi Brian, thank you so much! We don't want to give away TOO much of what's coming up this season, but there are a couple of your list that we're definitely familiar with ;).... Thanks for tuning in and looking forward to chatting more!
Just found your channel and have been binge watching for a couple days now. Hopefully your number of subscribers starts to match the quality of your content soon. Ya’ll should have definitely have over 1M for the effort you guys put into it.
In the early 70s when the whole place was fenced in, my friends and I snuck in, there was an old grizzly bear and an old lion still there. I personally found a old ostrich egg in an old cage.
If you are someone lucky enough to have explored almost all of Griffith Park including areas off-limits to the public as I have you can see why major Studios and production companies use it extensively for filming. It can be incredibly diverse. There is even a Section heavily wooded with a small paved Road in which you would swear you're in the heavily wooded section of a national park. If a studio was in New York it would probably take them 2 hours to get to something that looks the same. And it is just unbelievably big for being a park in the middle of a major u.s. city so you can film with very little chance of passers-by.And there is also the remaining part of that section of the San Gabriel mountains that Griffith Park is set in so your actual area to explore is even bigger.
There is an old ruin going towards the the art district on Santa fe ave, an old 1930s or 1940s gas station hidden between some buildings, you can't see it from the street but it's behind some old buildings.
@@Vulturefist yea I looked around it when I was there, the reason I ran into it was because I was doing some work on a old building Own by the gas company, ( that building itself is crazy, 1940's building) next to that building is the gas station, I'm guessing that station was to fill their vehicles back in the day for the company.
Oh man you guys have been at it for a bit. I’m a huge filming location fan so hearing about movies being is pretty cool. Glad they built a modern zoo for everyone. Cool you can walk there.
Should've parked half a mile before up the hill with more parking and a view of the mountains surrounding. Then as you walk down the green you will see the big history 1900's carousel, then upwards before you make a left to the Old Zoo trail you will find a small amphitheater and a cool hidden garden. There 2 to 3 more hidden gardens on top hidden hills on Griffith Park and lots of more hidden gems!
They should clean up all the cages & stairwells and remove all the graffiti and have a tour guides walk people through the place giving all those historical facts. Good job guys! Thanks for the presentation. i will share it.
LOL and yet another place that I've been in... when I was a kid in grade school in the 60's, we went on our yearly field trip to Griffith park and myself and a couple friends decided to explore the old zoo after the fire... I climbed down into one of the animal enclosures with one of my companions when suddenly a guy (a security guard!) starts yelling "GET OUT OF THERE" "THERE'S A BEAR IN THERE!".... we scrambled out of there as fast as we could... never saw the bear... we were escorted back to our teachers in the park with a stern reprimand! lol!
im surprised you guys didnt talk about the fact the place is said to be haunted and there also have been rumors of animal cruelty and testing here but idk
Haha....dang! Another missed opportunity. There are actually many shows/films shot here, but of course with our time restraint we couldn't show clips for them ALL so choose what we thought were the two best.
Just found this channel while I was researching creepy places in Los Angeles to explore for my channel! You guys seem really cool, and you even explained how to get to the zoo and where to park, tremendous!
I'll be out in LA for work again in a couple of weeks, so going through your channel looking for something interesting to photograph if I have the time. The SS Dominator and Vasquez Rocks were good ones. Thanks.
Laguna Beach Pirate Tower was one of our favorites to shoot! How could it not be with that beautiful scenery? Do you know of anymore odd/unusual places in LB we could check out? Thank you for all your support!
Magnate Griffith Griffith AKA Griffith Park, As a gesture of goodwill donated over 4000 acres to LA during the 1890's, He told city officials that this must be a relaxation & rest resort free of charge for the Public
I remember when Barnum and Bailey let the kids show up early to the circus, and ride just about any animal. Got a few check marks on that taxonomy chart you see in school.
You had me for a second there in the intro. I worked on the golf course next to the zoo in the early-mid 70's. The greens keepers grew marijuana on the course and I bartered coffee and donuts from the snack stand for doobies. Ahhh, it was a grand time.
I am loving all of your adventures! Thanks for the great quality work you do. After watching a bunch of your videos, I have just one question: is there ANY place in all of SoCal that has NOT been tagged by the slimeball graffitti jerks? Jeez, people, show a little respect for your environment! Thanks again for the wonderful work!
Mrs Maddox zoos nowadays are nothing like zoos of the past. With less and less wild habitat, zoos are working with scientists and wildlife reserves to preserve important wildlife. Yes they need a profit to support themselves too, but they’re for a good cause. I agree however that the circus using animals solely for profit and no education or good conditions for animals subject is cruel.
Love your channel but it pisses me off everything i mean everything is " Tagged" in every video. My family moved years ago what the hell is happening to California ?????????????? thank you........

iowndvc Why did they ask you to leave? Or was it not a public space then?
Yeah, was it not?
@@happyfreeky No, it was not a public space then, it was closed off for safety reasons, most likely.
I actually visited the old L.A. zoo, several times as a Boy, when it was operational. It seems strange watching this now.
How old are you ?
Me too
@@Midnightsadnesss the zoo closed in 1966 so he’s probably just in this 60s

Brad Jennings left behind or when it was still running?
Why doesn’t this video have more views? It is sooo good and informative. You guys are so funny and entertaining.
Did you guys know that the marygoroud still has sound and still moves

Fantastic!! From east fork bridge’s to south ward beaches!! Awesome team
Also featured in the classic flick: Police Academy 2 - Bobcat Goldwaiths gang hideout
Another good job you guys!!! It's eerie how they left all the cages. Looking forward to more episodes! :)
It's definitely eerie, but now it's a great playground for kids :)

Love this exploration! Awesome job!
Wow, can't believe they just left all the cages there! Another very interesting episode!
Love how Bethany always carries a knife on her belt. I've got one just like hers that usually have with me when im out hiking, camping, or fishing.
I love that you give such detailed and visual directions for getting to location. Gracias.
Good episode!!!
I never knew it was even there!!! Thanks,

Another great episode Guys!!! 👍🏻 Always look forward to Saturday's New Oddity Odysseys!!
Thank you!
Drew's jokes kill me Everytime , amazing video , looking forward to the next video
All zoos should close
depends on the animal and how they live there. many zoos are much better these days. And animals would be forever lost if they werent in the zoos.
im surprised you guys didnt talk about the fact the place is said to be haunted and there also have been rumors of animal cruelty and testing here but idk
Thanks 🙏
Lovely content! Keep it up!
I been to the old la zoo and look closely at a cage and heard lion roars so I said to my uncle, aunt, and cousin that I hear roaring
You guys are good!
Some of this video reminds me of the movie AS ABOVE SO BELOW
2:01 you're sure that's mud?...I agree, she does look good in a cage...there's two _Starsky & Hutch_ episodes _Pariah_ (1975), and _Bloodbath_ (1977).
That was cool and kudos on the "Starsky & Hutch" reference. There was, however, a missed opportunity for Cage Dancing ;)

Is it trespassing going here?
So what are they going to do with it..It's setting there vacant..
Like your videos guys!
Not sure about today’s alligators in the Los Angeles zoo... but they might be the descendent from the Eastlake zoo in Lincoln Heights
That abandonment list would be cool to check out

How about some more laguna beach videos!!!!
Our family has been going there for years it's our favorite place!!!!

Why don’t these guys have more subs, this is lit
Big pines highway zoo
I am kind of surprised they didn’t mention the ole Selig Zoo now known as Lincoln Park across the street from the USC Health Science Campus
I remember when Barnum and Bailey let the kids show up early to the circus, and ride just about any animal. Got a few check marks on that taxonomy chart you see in school.
I like the history lesson 👍
We wanted to encounter ghost, animals, not someone trynna hit us with the car
You had me for a second there in the intro.
I worked on the golf course next to the zoo in the early-mid 70's.
The greens keepers grew marijuana on the course and I bartered coffee and donuts from the snack stand for doobies.

Awesome video! Why does every place that's abandoned have to be covered in Graffiti?!
I dig how you always rock your Rambo knife
Super illegal in LA County
I was just there today
Cool! What did you think?
Oddity Odysseys it was great. on your picnic table video I heard a voice at the 6:24 mark. unless that was you guys ?
A lot of stuff was filmed there.
My wife's uncle grew up in East LA he told me when he was a kid he would take a bus to the zoo and a bike home.
Looks like an interesting, yet at the same time depressing place.
OMG
Why the knife lol?
That knife is well over 3" and is illegal to carry in LA county even in a sheath. Please be careful.
Funny a 4 inches knife is ilegal and an open carry AR-15 is fine
@@franciscogil6798 It's actually against the law to openly carry any firearm in California

Not many. It's weird. We don't even see it anymore. I guess we've just gotten used to taggers. In LA graffiti is everywhere.
Looks like we were probably there around the same time! :-)
It's also haunted
Was that a police academy reference?
Hard to believe that has been abandoned for 50 years & hasn't been redeveloped. Kinda goes to show how poorly California takes care of it's park's....
As a teenager in the 80s, we would go there to smoke weed. I haven't been there since.
Ulumalu Ahh classic 80s weed probably some Skunk bud no doubt maybe red hair!!
Yes, Skunk or Thai Stick. @@jonmacdonald5345
Ulumalu oooooooowe That Thai!!!!
The zoo may have been the Selig zoo
"However it became clear that the Zoo was outdated . . ." ( Shot of Derelict in DickTracyHat feeding cardboard to a giant Turtle . . .)
“Why do I always hear that?” How often do you get placed in a cage, and is it by choice? 🤣😂😁
THEY REMOVED SOME CAGES.
I thought it was haunted
Bethany, what is up with that knife? Do you ❤️ anything besides LA?
Old zoos were not so much zoological gardens as they were prisons for animals.
Ah-Ha! Reseda!
Damn, Bethany is cute and she even pronounced "Loz Feliz" correctly.
Good job guys!! But FR... that place WAS AWFUL!! Animal abuse at is finest. BOICOT THE ZOO AND THE CIRCUS!!

Why are you holding your seatbelt like that? It doesn't work when it's like that :-(
She does look good in a cage..
Pronounced "Loz Feeliz"
wait, you can open carry a knife, Bethany? but you cn't open carry a pistol?
You can open carry any blades in California, except where local laws prohibit. Even swords are legal to carry.
