    I live near here and in the 80's, when I was in High School, they had the road that is now a trail and you could drive up to the mine. There is only one steep section. There also used to be a room with core samples and dates you could access, don't know if it's still there. I also used to walk my dogs on the trail after they closed the road. Once the mine was sealed I never went back inside. I was there before the doors and seals were put in place. Thanks for bringing back some fond memories.

      Was the room with the core samples part of the external structure or inside the mine itself?

    If you ever find yourself in the Black Hills of South Dakota near mount rushmore there are a bunch of abandoned mines, The coolest two are ingersoll and the etta mine they both have multiple tunnels and large open cuts. Ingersoll has a large 4 story building and etta has turned into a 100' deep lake inside the open cut, from the top it almost feels like a volcano with water inside it. The locals call the Etta mine "Hole in the wall" Because of all the tunnels carved into the sides of the walls of the open cut.

    Wow, serious kudos for a great season finale, you definitely delivered! I don't know if i would've been comfortable going that far in the mine. From Bethany's Tomb Raider-esque entrance into the mine to the bat just hanging around, this is probably one of my favorite of your videos.
    And very, very responsible of you to remind your viewers to let someone know where & when you'll be back from a remote hike. This simple precaution could make a world of difference. The only complaint is we'll have to wait what will feel like ages for Season 3 :{
    Great Season, be safe and, oh yeah, bring back Pronunciation Dave!

      LA and the Justice system really screwed up in the 1980’s, fatally I’m afraid, when all this gangbanger graffiti bullshit really started in earnest. They should have rounded up all those gangbangers and gangbanger wannabes - NOT some of them - ALL of them and then liquidated their sorry asses en masse . Too late now. They’re an out of control menace now, and I’m sorry to say, nothing but vermin. Back in the 70’s and 80’s I hiked many of these same trails and to some of the old hidden places that this nice couple chronicles on their channel and none of this kind of graffiti existed back then. The smog was a LOT worse back then though :( Oh well. Sun some lose some. Sorry to rag. Enjoy the show and the hike. I really love this channel.

    WELL, in spite of the white knuckles (mine), this was definitely one of the most adventurous and thrilling Oddity Odysseys ever! The views, the mystery of what's around the next corner, the rotting wood......OMG! Brave explorers, and I felt as if I were along for the trip. Imagine the miners themselves, working to bring out even a tiny bit of gold and ever hopeful. Just like I was hopeful that you would make it out alive! LOL!!!!!! Thanks for a great season with one super adventure after another. OO is the best thing going. Keep up the excellent work!!!!!!!!!!! Fan base is growing. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I thought I'd watch this episode again after a long while, and I enjoyed it even more than the first time. You two were very brave, or crazy, or both, to enter this mine and explore as far back as you went! I love this episode. It's a piece of history that is unique to CA. You can imagine the miners coming and going, the sounds of the cars, the rocks in the chute....awesome. How scary and dangerous it must have been for them! Thanks for this great episode!

  • @420cleaner2

    That spot you were standing at 10:00 min through caved in last time i went there. It was about a 10-12 foot drop. But other explorer's dug a hole that leads down to the connecting tunnels and even dug an exit hole on the other side of the mine. The holes are extremely small and sketchy. On the outside of the mine on the way up to the door avoid touching or using the metal to pull you up the hill to the mine entrance. Its barely hanging on to the mountain.

      I went there yesterday on some amateur spelunking with some friends and I can confirm the area before the elevator shaft is collapsed with only a rickety, loose piece of wood to cross. Definitely had an overwhelming feeling that the mine was very delicate while we were in there.

    07:11 - I feel it. This absolute silence. I was a mechanic in a coal mine. The floors/stages were between 800-1300m deep below the surface. In some old unused tunnels, far away from the mine-shaft, there was absolute total silence. Completely nothing and I mean really really nothing, just your heartbeat and your breathing. I would like to be in this state again. Far away from all the loud noises and everything around me. But all mines in Germany have been closed for ever.

    2:45 I just went to the mine today and went the other way at first since the other sign was etched out and I thought the mine gulch trail would either lead to the mine or have another way back to the other trail. It wasn't until I ran into some other people who said the mine was at the other trail on the right of the fork that I had to turn around.

      Jessy Bee awesome! It’s s great hike. My boys are 5 and 10. Some parts of the trail is washed out and very small and on the edge of some hills. Hold hands! climbing up into the actual mine entrance is kinda dangerous. If you actually go inside I suggest bringing very good flashlights. It is pitch black dark inside.

      We live in the desert, so we go to devils punch bowl and Joshua tree often. I've heard the trail is easier than the devils bowl so I'm hoping it will be. We have head lamps, flashlights, and I think going just in the entrance of the mine will be an adventure for them. Thank you for the tips, I will be super vigilant of where we step.

    I have watched a number of these videos and I sure enjoy them. I like how they work together to make an entertaining visit to some place interesting. However, I do have a couple of observations. Every time I watch these videos Bethany always has numerous I love LA tank tops. She must have an endless supply.
    NUMBER 2 How come that boy doesn't marry that girl. I've been watching for several years and I keep wondering when she will wear a ring. They have two cats together, that should be enough to get down on one knee.

    Shame it's tagged. I prefer to leave mines as is on trails. Especially if fees.

    The most valuable element is californium

      @MvRcscIsM 5 років тому

      Gold isn't even close to being the most valuable element. The only reason it's "valuable" is because it has a resistance to corrosion and Californium is valuble do to the fact it is highly radioactive more so than uranium or plutonium. And that my friends, is a fact.

    "We don't recommend you breach these bars and actually enter the mine without the proper gear and protection" Right, so is that why both of you just went in there without helmets and proper headlamps, wearing jeans and shirts. Your knife wont do you much good when the tunnel gives way, love.
