- The Halo universe is no stranger to evil and horrific acts, but there is one that beats them all - a war crime so egregious it wins the award for the worst in Halo's lore. This is the most disturbing war crime in Halo lore...

If an ONI Agent is in the room with you right now like this comment (AND LIKE THE VIDEO)
I can neither confirm nor deny the presence of an ONI agent in my room. I definitely do not need help.
I live alone at the moment... Am I an ONI Spook????
@@scouttrooper2871 Damn you spooks. Skyrim was fine until you came along.
(They don't know I'm the ONI Agent in my room.)
I meant an ONI Agent
The entire time I played Infinite Warfare I just imagined I was playing some sort of Halo spin off game, made the game much more enjoyable.
It's story honestly feels like it could've taken place during the Colony Wars.
A friend of mine likes to head-canon that game takes place during The Colony Wars
Especially with how similar some of the ship designs look
With the recent activision acquisition by Microsoft, maybe they could retcon it and make it canon
i always saw the time line in halo going like this and adding all these series
War of the ancients
Rise of humanity and the Covernant
WWZ
Colonial Era
unitology Era
Inserection Era
Human-Covernat War era
After the war Era
the Discovery of Requiem and Reclamation era
i even saw all these series, games and movies being part of the same universe Halo, planetside, Starship Troopers, AVP, Lost planet, Dead space, Avatar, Resident Evil, Red Faction, Titanfall, Blade runner ect
for the UNSC: nuking an entire colony is seen as a horrific warcrime and a shameful mark on their history.
for the Imperium: Tuesday
Dude, imagine being a citizen in a remote outer colony that never got invaded by the Covenant during the entire war, and then hearing about an alien species almost wiping out the entire UNSC after it's all done 😂 bet they partied in celebration
Until the banished found them and only thought one word, Dinner.

Creeped me out thh
Agreed
They’d havoc nuke it
Oh no, we did
@ONIunofficial Hey, wait a second, no one told me there was a second agent here
I can’t even begin to describe how badly I want a halo 2 style insurrection war campaign where you play both sides, one as the insurrectionists, and another as a spartan. What a crazy game that would be man
I think it would be cool if you were a pirate survivor of one of these massacres or one of their descendants taught never to trust the UNSC and had to choose between aid (gear and equipment ) from irreligious Sangheili from the banished and aid from UNSC and end up playing them against each other to make off with the big score.
A horror game where a spartan is killing everyone in your base
I always forget that the side that is seemingly the ‘good guys’ also harbours an evil entity that no average person has a clue about.
UNSC in games: The Covenant is glassing humans! They're so brutal.
UNSC in lore: Meh. We've glassed plenty of them.
(For the record, "glassing" kind of originates with the results of the Trinity test. The Trinity test was the first atomic weapon test in 1945 at the White Sands Proving Grounds in New Mexico. The blast was so hot that it created "trinitite," a glassy residue made of sand, quartz, feldspar, and various other substances.
Very on point to how real world human governments behave. When they kill civilians, it's just a sad but unavoidable consequence of war. When their enemies kill civilians, it's a barbaric crime that must not go unpunished.
Covenant is still 20x more evil though
Do you forget that the covenant literally genocided a vast majority of the human race? And insurrectionists stupidly KEPT FIGHTING AGAINS THE UNSC WHILE A WAR OF EXTINCTION FOR OUR RACE WAS HAPPENING if the insurrectionists won MANKIND WOULDVE BECOME EXTINCT
ONI is top 3 villains of Halo universe. They're always in the shadows and the games have yet to deeply delve into their illuminati style.
It really goes Flood - Endless - ONI
I would have loved for them to have become a major antagonist for halo 4 or 5. At this point both the unsc and the Arbiter’s forces have reason to hate them
@@ed32568 endless over covenant or banished?
@@iiroyalty2519 if they can indeed control time, yes.
That's exactly what we need in the games right now, instead of the ones that are pretty much cash-grabs that are not concerned with campaign.
“Experimenting on POWs with the flood”. Isn’t that what ONI was doing with the human(doubtful they were/were all POWs) and covenant prisoners on the Mona Lisa before sending the prowler Red Horse in as the cleanup crew when the poo flew into the fan as things went sideways?
That was the SCP Foundation doing experiments on D-Class bro.
The whole ONI thing is just a cover up.
Yep
It was up to interpretation, iirc. It wasn't explicitly stated ONI was behind it, Rebecca did theorize that the ONI officer was acting alone. Although the captain of the redhorse didn't buy that. He believed that ONI would wipe their hands clean with him, but even then, its not like all of ONI was behind it, ONI notoriously has different "sections", some more secretive than others.
@@halinaqi2194
OMG, someone actually read the books.
@@halinaqi2194 Fair point. BB did say it best when he described ONI: “Is ONI one happy family? Oh, please. We've got four divisions, officially, and only one of them knows that we've actually got more than that. There's Section Two-made up of psyops and PR, who each kid themselves they're not like the other at all-which tells the lies; Section Zero, which thinks it spies on everyone else, tells lies to Section Two, and thinks it tells lies to Sections One and Three; Section One does stuff we can almost talk about, they interface with other branches; and Section Three does the stuff we can't talk about or else it would have to kill everyone in fascinating and groundbreaking new ways. Technically, you're not a numbered section at all. You're the praetorian guard for CINCONI, in a way, and we just call CINCONI's staff Core Four, although it's actually in Core Five of Bravo-6, and DCS reports directly to it.” Given that, is it really any big surprise when most of the regular troops they work with tend to hate when the ONI “Spooks” arrive on the scene with their mysterious hidden agendas.
Odds are pretty good that Smith was thrown under the bus by Section 3 to keep the spotlight off them. Even with the general excessive unsupervised freedom some ONI agents have, doubt he could have pulled that off on his own.
15:03 for a time I though that 343 would use these dissidences as part of the banished, The banished offering support and tech to the human rebels looked for me as something about to happen, they even started to say that the Banished receives humans (what they do at least for some time) and this looked like a thing that Atriox could easily exploit against the UNSC, just give weapons to the human rebels to make them fight in equal terms against the UNSC and integrate them into the Banished.
It would be really cool if even some Spartans joined the insurrection, and there would be some Spartan v Spartan combat, with Spartans on each side playing a vital role as the insurrection turns into a full scale civil war.
Spartans dont have the ability to betray humanity (UNSC and ONI in reality) that part of them is taken away during the Spartan program. Loyal to a fault except under extreme circumstances (and I mean EXTREME)@@voomvoom4522
@@voomvoom4522 Halo 7 on it's way man, we already saw the swords of sanhelie fighting other Elites who stayed with the covenant, now I want to see the humans that were recruited by the banished! Loving these Halo lore videos. DON'T STOP! Would you be interested in reviewing the overall timeline of the Human-Insurrectionist war (the one that was right before the human covenant war)?
pre war lore is super fun to learn about thank you
So basically, the era of the Inter-planetary War era was basically Neo-Fascists, Neo-Communists, UNSC and Neo-Libertarians? This in itself is a fascinating era. It sets up the reason why the UNSC became too Authoritarian centuries later as i'm sure UEG became a mix of all four ideologies, as happens in Politics.
Far Isle's history is dark, it is the UNSC's darkest era i'd say.
all the Innies wanted was a UNSCexit, but they got nuked!
So glad to see lore videos back, Halo has always had some fascinating lore in it
I’ve always loved the lore more than the games. It’s so interesting how they took first contact, with the Fermi paradox, angle.
I never knew any of the UNSC lore somehow so this was really interesting! Also, that Oppenheimer bit in the beginning makes me pray that we could get a Christopher Nolan Halo movie one day. Great video, love the lore stuff!
Humanity will never stop fighting each other unless we face an existential threat lol
That goes for just about any civilization-building species.
Even then we didn't fully stop lmao
He’s just standing there… MENACINGLY!
Are we the only ones who've noticed so far?
That guy showing up in the background at the beginning was pretty funny, caught me off guard and I had to go back to check if I was imagining it or not.
Oni: "Those dirty rebels act like we treat them like slaves"
Also Oni: names anti-rebel units SPARTANs.
Spartans 2s, who are children kidnapped from their parents, replaced with flash clones, and then trained to butcher their fellow colonist, including their own parents if necessary
Are we just not going to acknowledge the guy standing in the corner of Luc's room with the ONI shirt on?
I can't believe that the UNSC would rather completely ahnihillate a planet rather than let the colony on it live.
ONI when seeing Zeon committing war crimes in Gundam:
This doesn’t go far enough
The code bandersnatch was use by Cortana for for the halo but she also used Hydra for the Flood outbreak.
Who knew it would take the threat of literal extinction for humanity to come together.
Except it didn't. Most insurrectionists that hadn't personally seen or interacted with the Covenant did not even believe they existed and the that the whole Human-Covenant war was UNSC Propaganda.
There is one detail about this period in halo's lore that has always questioned me and has never been throughly explained is what happened to all of Earth's nations. Did they all just collapse or seize to exist when the UEG was formed? It is most likely that they still existed during the Interplanetary wars, but I am not sure entirely what happened afterwards. In other words, I hate that we haven't gotten any spinoff games focusing on this era of halo's lore, and I hope that modders will do what 343 hasn't.
If I remember correctly, when the UEG formed, governments on the state/country level were kept to maintain control over regions of Earth, but were all under the UEG's control. Countries stayed named as well, as in multiple Halo mediums there are continuous uses of names like Africa, Brazil, Australia etc.
Hope this helped.
@@Novahri to add on to that I remembered that a few nations merged together, the only example that is mentioned is the United Republic of North America (URNA) which was formed when Canda, Mexico, and The USA merged into one nation, sometime around 2400 (though that beggs the question if the US constitution is still in power there). Then there are also a bunch of countries where their status is completely unknown (most European, and Asian countries to be specific).
@@Novahrithis begs the question of how does power balance work in the UEG ?
Is this a somewhat more powerful EU ?
Or a pretty dang federal republic?
Or just another version of UN that is militized as hell and is supported by the member state ?
Even though I personally doubt the federal republic theory as we are shown that the federation still treats outer coloney as complete shit and turns a blind eye towards there problems plus no autonomy
A federal republic must have a system in which new state are created deal with the administrative problems
Which didn't happen in the timeline
So there is a high chance this is a sort of a more unified EU ran by non elected officials that are shown on the basis of merits to support the interests of nations on earth
Or this is just a simple copy cat of UN with a lot more power and it's own military but the entire political machinery is still run by UN security council
This explains why the name of the "UNSC" is actually "UNSC"
As various nations still exist but work together closely as everyone now has a couple of common enemy's
UEG more likely us just another version of the European union that was made to deal with issues that come under special jurisdictions of being a capital world like which happens to many states in which capitals of nations are located
UEG: Tell me, have you ever heard of Hiroshima?
Far Isle: n- no
UEG: Funny, cuz I expect to hear the same from the next colony when I ask them about Far Isle
That mentality of, "If you won't live under me, you won't live at all," is unfortunately common in history. Made for some of the worst atrocities in human history.
Will you be doing an updated video about 'The Assembly' given their ties to the Chimera event lore?
This is the HiddenXperia I’ve been missing, glad to have it back. Can you talk about ONI and the Swords of Sanghelios?
the lore god finally came back with a video
Warcrimes In halo? That doesn't seem to match the tone.
*loads flamethrower with purging intent*
aw man i forgot the flamethrower exists.
It's kind of ironic since the flamethrower used by the UNSC is apparently meant for clearing brush.
I was so confident this episode was gonna be about Glyke but honestly this is awesome too! Great video!
Let's go! I've been hyped since I saw the teaser on your community page!
I find it funny every time when someone is trying to show brutality in a fictional way and UA-cam is like I am keeping my money.
An entire populated planet getting blown up? An Alien species getting pushed to the brink of extinction after having their home planet blow up? Just a Tuesday in 40k :D
Innies: "It feels like we're being neglected, could we divorce ourselves from Earth and live as we choose?"
UEG: "NEGLECTED?! ARE YOU JOKING! WHO'S BEEN NEGLECTING YOU? I WANT HIM FIRED!"
Innies: "So... you agree with us?"
UEG: "Oh hell, no he wasn't brutal enough, hope you have lead blankets."
Innies: *death*
Excited for this video, love your lore videos in general. Was also wondering if you’d be able to talk about the UNSC Infinity and or Red team, along With Anders on Zeta (if I’m not mistaken) Halo, it would be nice if 343 did something with them
I’d be pissed if they were destroyed by Cortana when she blew up that UNSC building
I haven't seen this channel in a while so:

I think I saw an M6 SOCOM tucked under his shirt...

Oh god…
I love oni lore. It’s always so perfectly disturbing
Feels like the war is now in the rebels favor since the Banished scattered the UNSC. But if you are interested, I have a what if story that you may love. Provided you know the Metroid series.
Is the what if story about Halo and Metroid? If so can you tell me the video it’s from?
Based off my limited knowledge of halo lore, I was under the impression that the inssurectionists were stationed in the outer colonies. Werent they hurt just as badly, if not worse than the UNSC by thr human covenant war? I doubt they can recover and make any noticeable comeback during the same time the UNSC was recovering.
It is still the same. But my Metroid cross over idea has a surprise twist in it. And a sad outcome why they slaughter outer colonies that try to separate
Really appreciate your lore videos on Halo … how I found your channel a while back! Great work and glad your back at it!
Love all the new lore content! So cool to hear of the side stories and details that would be sweet to see in some game at some point :)
A Spartan team actually did end up using a nova bomb on a heavily populated sangheili planet after the war ended bc they just never found out that it did lmao
"We don't want to live under your evil rule!"
"ok" (drops nukes)
Your lore videos are absolutely phenomenal. I loved learning about this.
I wish I had you as my history teacher in high school. I would’ve done so much better 😂
Imagine the UEG allowing for sucession before the Covenant arrived, such an act would weaken the overall defense of human space by letting smaller parts of the greater whole have such a luxury such as "sovereingty" or "independence". An act that would accelerate the downfall of humanity faster than originally.
They already used a NOVA Bomb on a Sangheili colony *after* the Human-Covenant War ended. Though to be fair to Spartan Gray Team, they were deployed before the war ended, and didn't even know it ended until after the deed was done.
it was justified the aliens deserved it
@@tacticalmeme732 The Arbiter and his comrades didn't seem to think so.
@@thecatfather857 The Sangheili glassed dozens of planets (sometimes to the point of the very atmosphere being destroyed) and killed billions of civilians, so you can't really blame people for thinking they deserved it. And it was absolutely justified. Look into it more. The mission was started when the war was still on-going, humanity was on the verge of extinction, and the UNSC (who had no allies until the last few weeks or months of the war) was desperate to at least land a big blow to the Covenant military.
The mission was launched to kill Sangheili generals and buy humanity some time. It was one world inhabited by the enemy and the last thing Gray Team heard before losing all contact was that the Covenant had found Earth. The Spartans didn't know the war had ended until later and at the time of the nova bombing they thought humanity was about to be wiped out.
“Most disturbing? Gonna have to be more specific than that bud”- an ONI agent, probably
What disturbing about this is if humans can actually build new life in other planet, all of these will undoubtedly happen

Would be quite the surprise if the Banished managed to be smart enough to ally with Insurrectionists.
Honestly wouldn’t doubt it, the banished have literally zero reason to fight innies since they don’t have the zealous prophets telling them to
I don't think any Human faction would willingly ally themselves with aliens that openly eat Human flesh and operate Human meat processing facilities.
This is why Lord Hood shouldn't have returned the role of civil governance from the UNSC to the UEG, cause they became more oppressive even years after the Human-Covenant war ended.
Bruh aren't the Spartan II's walking war crimes like kidnapping children and replacing them with flash clones was hella dirty... Then to literally kill like 90% of the "recruits" through surgery and augmentations is wild like maybe not a warcrime persay but definitely morally reprehensible 💀😶😅
Imagine doing something so insane that ONI goes "Wait you're serious?". Sometimes I wonder why I side with the flood.

ONI vs UNSC spartans would be a good plot. with arbiters elites aiding the spartans.

Honestly, if and when we do reach a space fairing/planet colonization age, I can definitely see these forms of conflict potentially arising within humanity’s timeline.
Bro the guy standing behind you freaked me the hell out when I first noticed him. Dude was trying not to bust out laughing 😂

Ah, ONI everyone’s favorite war criminal. Can’t trust those spooks.
It is both amazing and yet oddly fitting that those play the halo games (The majority of halo fans) have no idea how awful the unsc truly is
TLDW: unsc nuked a colony … not really the worse, kidnapping people and torturing them in thousands of horrible ways is obviously worse and more personal
Honestly, this is exactly how I see humanity if we actually manage to break into the stars. Yea it’s depressing, but humanity is psychotic
Most likely not. This game is fiction and very little can be taken from it when predicting the future realistically. It's a great story and lore but still sci Fi. In the future people would be self enlightened, long living, and hyper intelligent. The galaxy is big. If you simply don't like someone you can just go somewhere else untouched by anyone. That and in reality if ftl isn't capable then a large centralized power wouldn't exist beyond a solar system at most. It would take hundreds of years to go from star to star. Whole cultures would change in that time. Empires had problems with a lot shorter times like the British empire and age of sail.
ONI on its way to give you a nice holiday when you talk about the real reason the Spartan project was started
Dammm this is the most related edit i have seen in the day
The Havock tactical nuke is smaller and more percise. Im geussing they used they used the Larger Shiva Nuke just because its greater yeild would be more effective against large spread out targets like an entire planet
Just so you know what makes a nuke "dirty" isnt how it detonates but where it does. If the both nukes detonated at the surface, it woild be more radioactive than detonating at attitude.
It's interesting how well CoD actually fits for the background footage due to not having any Halo footage or pictures of these events.
Human rights? ONI laughs at such a suggestion.
Edit: Wow the UNSC made ONI look ethical for a change.

Committing the worst war crimes BEFORE we meet the aliens is probably the most human thing I can think of. I'm sure the reason we hadn't actually made contact with aliens is because they took one look at us and noped right onto the next species to colonize.

As a fan of both Halo and Titanfall 2, a thought occurred to me: Both involve a conflict between oppressive inner colonies trying to quell major resistance from belligerent outer colonies. The difference being that the Halo novels tend to sympathize more with the inner colonies, but Titanfall 2 roots for the insurrectionists. It gave me pause and reminded me that sometimes story perspective is the driving force in who we want to see win.
Yesss dude! It gets so real when reading Halo: New Blood and Halo: bad blood bc your cheering on alpha nine but you get the other side and they mix so interestingly!!
