Welcome to the We're Back In Business Club, how We're Back In Business Are ya? (while this was recorded in a hotel room because I had no utilities, this was uploaded from my home and utilities were restored very recently finally as of this video upload time so expect things to resume again)
I’ve figured out why I like Manly’s content so much. He doesn’t fill every moment with his voice. He allows the atmosphere of the games he plays to shine through. And he doesn’t over exaggerate his reaction in the “Let’s Player” fashion that’s all over let’s plays on UA-cam. He is a channel I can put on at night and genuinely fall asleep too, because there’s something about the horror games he plays that just eases me to sleep, because they have that relaxing/terrifying atmosphere.
I feel the same. With too much voiceover, the horror game kinda loses its creepy atmosphere but without it, game becomes too creepy for me and the jumpscare's effects are tenfold. Manly's format is in the sweet spot between those.
The monk and the landlord killed Yoko in an attempt to create a Ubume. However, Yoko was supposed to be pregnant for the ritual to work, and her son had been born before she died. The ghost cursed whoever it encountered in that town so they became faceless spectres. The monk was trying to lure in girls as sacrifices to break the curse so he could escape the town. He imprisoned Yoko's son beneath the bath house in order to use him to control Yoko's ghost. When the player freed the son he killed the monk and the landlord by dousing them in gasoline and setting them on fire. With the monk dead and her son free Yoko's spirit moved on. The townspeople effected by the curse all vanished when the bathhouse burnt down, not just disappearing but being completely erased from history, the same way Erena forgot about her sister. Hence the police officer saying no body should have been in that town.
14:09 To be fair, there's a story from Junji Ito about pretty much everything. The guy turned every mundane thing into scary shit. While wearing cat ears.
That's a pretty bittersweet good ending. It's nice to have one of our leads survive, but the sister is still effectively wiped from history. She won't even be mourned, that's pretty dark. Better than everyone dying at least. I'll also note I am glad you were safe, Manly.
If I had a nickel everytime a good ending in a chila’s art (sic) game had a character be effectively erased from existence by a ghost I’d have atleast two nickels… which really isn’t a lot but it’s weird its happened atleast twice.

Like Yoko probably got pregnant with the Monk's child, then he killed her for some reason. Landlord became the monk's accomplice by helping the monk dispose of Yoko's body in the furnace of the bathhouse which is why he got cursed. Yoko became an ubume. The Old Lady with a missing granddaughter, possibly Yoko's grandma or the grandma of another victim
Based on the vague information given, I think this is pretty much spot on. There's something to be said about how weird the town and residents are, but for the main story the biggest sticking point is "Who is the man in the basement?" The most fitting thing would be if it's Yoko's kid.
@@CycleMantis I dont think its that that is the kid. He would have been killed by the monk since birth, and if he were to survived that, how would he live? Nobody in the town seems to like Yoko, so taking care one of her kid is a big no.

Chilla's Art games do nail the unsettling atmosphere though!
18:13 A bizarre thing here that I don't think is really captured because of the culture difference: most bath houses in Japan have a policy where they do not serve customers with any tattoos. Zero ink. This is to avoid the weird laws they have about how people are considered to be "associated" with criminal organizations. More recently this ruling has been relaxed some, with certain bathhouses offering tattoo coverings or outright allowing tattooed individuals entry, but that isn't the norm. She should be freaking out and telling the guy that he is violating the rules.
Funny you say that. I was at a Japanese swim park with my Japanese inlaws and I was in a bikini when I suddenly felt someone giving me a wedgie. It was a man that worked there who was trying to cover my lower back tattoo. I can't imagine a swim park worker doing that here in America. They also made me take my hair out of a ponytail to cover the tattoo on the back of my neck. They were really nice about it though.
The game creators are Japanese. I’m sure they’re highlighting the common place corruption and social rule breaking that yakuza do by including a yakuza character showing off his tats and being a sleaze to the first main character. Especially in such a small countryside town.
First 10 seconds stirred up a memory from the game, The Summoner "I use my whip to attack" "But there is nothing to attack here" ... " I attack the darkness!"
I think the scares were pretty well done with building suspense and just a little misdirection! As for the story There is a variety of allusions to different myths/yokai so it's difficult to definitively unravel, but theories abound. The whole thing is essentially a ghost story / yokai so there's a real sense of inconsistency in the service of themes. Importantly, the newspaper reports Yoko missing on Jan 10, but the radio says it's only been a week (though it's supposedly August). This leads me to believe, her pregnancy and death by Monk (with the landlord as accomplice) is the incitement of the 'curse'. There's a lot to note regarding Ubume (the dolls, pools of blood, feeding). But importantly, it's necessary to sever the umbilical cord and thus the deceased mother's attachment to this world [see req. for good ending] Also, Denko calling the appliances her "babies" and the wires being umbilical in nature. May be she's Yoko's mother, unwilling to let go? The fire alarm event hints at the purging flames in ending 2. Some Ubume tales tell of the mother spirit stealing food/candies, leading to the discovery of her grave containing her living child. It's a stretch, but this is the most likely candidate for the 'man in the basement'. The Monk is a resentful father, that's why he's flogging him in the opening cutscene, to cure his sin. Bad ending is best explained as Yoko becoming powerful enough by eating the sisters(?) to get revenge. The history of hair in Japanese horror is fascinating too, but it's mostly just symbolic to the narrative (regarding beauty, obsession, devotion)
This dedication is so amazing, having an upload even within this mess of a storm to most it seems it's admirable. I do hope you are staying safe and being able to watch this is amazing.
I'm here because when I went to buy it from steam, it was no longer being sold. Thanks for taking the sting out of not being able to play this one. Love the atmosphere of this one.
Hey manly, I'm pretty sure I speak for all of us here. really appreciate you going out of your way to keep videos coming while your going threw a rough patch man! Wishing you luck bro!🤘💢🤜🤛
What I like about Chilla's Art is that despite the game generally being about something that would be boring to play normally, they can turn it into a interesting and fun story to play through (the bugs/glitches and other weird stuff are part of the fun too).
Manly, so glad you’re safe & sound-and that your power has been restored. I hope your place didn’t sustain any damage, & that life can continue for you somewhat uninterrupted. I know I speak for so many of us when I say we would be eager to show our gratitude to you if you needed it. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you need any additional help, or if there are other ways we can better support you. Stay safe, & be well!
Don't forget patreon, becoming a channel member, subscribing on twitch and what-not is a great way to support your favorite creators. If you wanna help the most directly I suggest patreon as it takes the least cut out of it that I'm aware of. I know you were mostly saying if he needed and asked for it but keep in mind that asking for donations can kill an entertainers career. If you have the mind and money to, why not support regardless! I'm sure every bit is appreciated by Manly. Just think, if everyone who would flood in with support would already be donating then he wouldn't need the help in the first place! Hope you have a wonderful day G.
Yay for more Chilla's Art games! Gameplay-wise this one seems to be going back to its roots a bit after the previous games. Closing Shift had coffee making, The Radio Station had driving, while The Night Way Home had an Amnesia-esque light/sanity mechanic. In terms of gameplay, The Bathhouse seems a bit more traditional, while also incorporating some newer stuff, such as Closing Shift's dream sequence. Story was pretty confusing, though the good ending was pretty sad. It seems it did the thing where those who fell victim to the ghost had their existences erased and everybody else has their memories of them wiped. It is as though the victims never existed ... Damn.
So, there seems to be a real lack of people playing this, and I remember that you played the demo version of it, which has my wondering if you’re planning to go back and play the full version of Mycorrhiza now that it’s been released? I thought it was a fun idea and I adore Ito’s work, so I was really hoping that you would. I love watching you play anything, but a revisit to the full game would be pretty neat imo. Either way, thank you for all your hard work and being the best damn let’s player on here!
Glad you are safe Manly!! Thank you for continuing to bring us content even in a tough situation! I start everyday with a cup of tea and watching your videos! This one was super creepy, but your letsplays make it easy to enjoy! I've got to watch so many interesting games because of your nerves of steel! Stay safe!
Rent in japan is considerably lower than the US. Most one room apartments are 300-450$ a month, so free rent in exchange for the night shift isn’t a super insane and too good to be true concept. A trip to the bathhouse (which the player has to do anyway bc they don’t have a shower) is about 3.50/5.00-15.00 a night, so it’s a pretty good deal!
Did anyone figure out what 812 was about? I have a feeling that the woman in pink was Yoko's grandmother. Her hood covers her eyes & she put an offering of white flowers in front of the bathhouse
i could write a whole essay on how your videos serve so many purposes for me but ill keep it short and say your voice is relaxing and i love your content :D
So glad I stumbled upon Manly’s channel, his voice is just so soothing! Even though he plays horror games I would play one of his videos while doing Homework.
I think that one lady who mentioned the offerings was in on it too. I was kinda sad that the ghost wasn't trying to scare us off / warn us. frankly, after the first time we see her in the bath, i woulda been like 'goodBYE' lol. knowing the sister would have wanted to help her... just said. could have just gone to see her sister for a little while to recuperate instead of running off to a creepy ass town... as always such a good video, manly! im glad you're safe!
Glad your doing alright manly considering you had to use a hotel for electricity (very thankful that you still manage to make videos that I can enjoy listening to while studying), I maybe a bit new to the channel but I found this channel from the case series (case 00, 01, Extra) and would love to see you play more of the series in the future but, I would also like to recommend Rain world (though it doesn't have any dialogue, it is a great game that I would love to see on the channel), again thanks for the great videos -- Blue
Man the scare keeps getting better and better, usually i can keep calm watching chilla's games.. but this one got me on edge all the time, even gave me mini heart attack for that sauna part 😂
Did anyone notice at 1:00:55 the ghost girl says Junji Ito or maybe Junji Ita. Thats a nice little reference to the stories and Manly had already figured it out at the middle when he was pulling hair out of the wall.
I love ManlyBadassHero's content,he's not like one of those youtubers who talks alot and their voice's is the one your hearing and not the game but him he just speaks when it necessary, very good content👌😊
I'm glad the weather didn't keep you down for too long. It's a bit parasocial but I was a little worried about ya, but in the end the Chillatekes protected you. As for the game, Chilla's Art is always a good time. Hm.. Japanese hair ghost. Last time I saw one of those was Sachiko's Mom in Corpse Party. (Which also has the ghost erases the memory of those slain by it.) One more good story, but I can't help but want a happy ending where everyone lives happily ever after!
When someone lies and says you hurt them, even if it's a kid, the best course of action is to hurt them badly enough that they can never tell a lie again Mark Twain wrote this
something tells me the bathhouse ghost, likely Yoko since thats what insinuated by the good ending, was likely murdered by the monk and my theory is the human sacrifices arent to appease her but to TRAP her. my reasoning for this is that she only seems to be able to manifest and manipulate within the walls of the bathhouse. clearly these seals are only temporary because we do have her jump the sister within the apartment and other oddities seem to happen around the village. in the bad ending, the monk and landlord either didnt deliver the sacrifice in time or the sacrifice wasnt good enough to trap her, causing Yoko to overwhelm and kill the two men...then she seemingly wanders out of the bathhouse, no longer trapped, and is likely wrecking havoc on the village and nearby locales. i could be wrong though, but that seems to make sense. if it's true the monk was Yoko's lover and he killed her, it's no wonder they couldnt appease her and help her spirit move on despite having a shrine nearby...because her wrath is centered on the monk, the man who killed her. being unable to appease her, they likely opted to try and trap her in her place of death instead to cover up the incident
Me (sees the game on Steam): It came out yesterday...I wonder if Manly covered it-- Manly: Hello everyone, this is Manlybadasshero, please hold onto my beer.
When we brought the cat back to the old lady she said to the main character "Thank you young man." I thought that was weird when she said that but it was almost definitely a mistake since we are referred to as a girl throughout the rest of the game. And I'm not sure but I think it was a male protagonist in Night Delivery.
Their games skew towards female protagonists but a few of them have male protagonists - The Radio Station, The Ghost Train, Night Delivery and Inunaki tunnel iirc.
I wish Chillas Art could present a tutorial on how to make a 3D game to look like theirs. The filters and effects must be custom. Please, if you reading this, teach us programmers how to do it. I really enjoy your games.
37:23 Those gamer instincts kicked right in. Spooky noise? 1. Move so you aren't a stationary target 2. Quickly look around and find where the threat is 3. Back against a wall or the like so you can't be caught from behind
Man I made a mistake by checking the sister's apartment before taking the final bath so I cannot open the last door for second ending. Gonna have to replay again but it's ok, it's fun and have to discover all the secrets.

I'm glad that you are okay and still managing to bring us content. You're the best, Manly.
@@jakebiassa I would have been horrified omg
First 10 seconds stirred up a memory from the game, The Summoner
"I use my whip to attack"
"But there is nothing to attack here"
... " I attack the darkness!"
I think the scares were pretty well done with building suspense and just a little misdirection!
As for the story
There is a variety of allusions to different myths/yokai so it's difficult to definitively unravel, but theories abound.
I think chilla needs someone to help write/edit/brush up the story lines otherwise amazing games.
manly giving us an hour long gameplay while without power and during/after a hurricane is really on brand
We missed you, brother. Glad you’re safe and sound. Keep on playing!
This dedication is so amazing, having an upload even within this mess of a storm to most it seems it's admirable. I do hope you are staying safe and being able to watch this is amazing.
puppet combo and chilla's art games are the best tbh 😍
For real! Especially Chilla’s
I absolutely love their aesthetics and overally style.
Who?
Your work ethic in the mist of a hurricane is admiral
Chilla's Art has the ability to make really normal/mundane places really eerie and unsettling. I love that about their games
Welcome back to the wild internet Manly
oh no
Manly finally has power! Glad to see you're doing well; thank you for the additional content despite how chaotic it's probably been.
This was the first video you've done to actually get me with a jump scare.
The Sauna jump scare was very well done, a very welcome spook.
I'm here because when I went to buy it from steam, it was no longer being sold. Thanks for taking the sting out of not being able to play this one. Love the atmosphere of this one.
Really glad everything turned out okay and you're uploading again! Can't wait for more of your amazing videos
I was so happy to see that kitty get rescued lol...love your videos have been a huge fan for years now always excited to see an upload from you 🤘
Me too omg…if a game doesn’t let the protag save a cat in danger it’s -10 points for me 😂😭
@@user-we1fk4ul5o it's a must!! Lol
Should definitely wait until after I shower to watch this. Thanks Manly for finding a game to tap right into my childhood nightmares
Genuinely scared when watching this one. The sense of not knowing when the jump scare's going to pop up is really giving me goosebumps
"you stink"
And that's when you run, especially if you're *getting your apartment* from this guy.
Must be an Earthbound fan
Hey manly, I'm pretty sure I speak for all of us here. really appreciate you going out of your way to keep videos coming while your going threw a rough patch man! Wishing you luck bro!🤘💢🤜🤛
What I like about Chilla's Art is that despite the game generally being about something that would be boring to play normally, they can turn it into a interesting and fun story to play through (the bugs/glitches and other weird stuff are part of the fun too).
Manly was so badass the Hurricane got scared and left him to post more manly videos
The hurricane posted more manly videos?
The manly posted more hurricane videos?
Damn.
What I needed today, a Chilla's new game to watch and relax a bit!
Love Chilla's Art games. Always happy to see one!
*Supernatural shit happens*
Protagonist: "But shit, the rent is free"
Lmao posting vids from hotels. Now that's dedication. Cheers!
Glad you are safe Manly!! Thank you for continuing to bring us content even in a tough situation! I start everyday with a cup of tea and watching your videos! This one was super creepy, but your letsplays make it easy to enjoy! I've got to watch so many interesting games because of your nerves of steel! Stay safe!
Finally a new Chilla's Art game playthrough. I love watching you play these!
But I should mention that the customers in this game only pay you 100 yen, which right now is like half a dollar
another manly video! lesss gooo
I always love a Chilla's Art game. Japanese Horror just does it so well.
Yayy finally! I’ve been waiting for you to play this game since chilla's art dropped the first teaser video. Hyped!
Did anyone figure out what 812 was about? I have a feeling that the woman in pink was Yoko's grandmother. Her hood covers her eyes & she put an offering of white flowers in front of the bathhouse
Yo bro when you hit everyone with those 1 words I find funny “Animé, trash, secrete” lol your vids are entertaining love it keep up the good work bro
The Manliest Man who ever Manned: The Manly Badass Hero.
i could write a whole essay on how your videos serve so many purposes for me but ill keep it short and say your voice is relaxing and i love your content :D
Been watching you for awhile! Hope you and your loved ones are staying safe in the face of that hurricane! Thanks Manly! :^)
This is my favourite LP of this game, thank you Manly!
forget about ghostly girl, the landlord approaching about had me jumping the railing.
So glad I stumbled upon Manly’s channel, his voice is just so soothing! Even though he plays horror games I would play one of his videos while doing Homework.
**spoiler**
36:16 might be the most in your face jumpscare i can remember from a chilla gam stopped my heart
So the first two words your landlord says are "You stink." That's just great.
I heckin LOVE chillas art games ❤
I jokingly said that you were only youtuber who would find a way to record in a hurricane. Didn't think I'd be right lol. Glad to hear you're ok.
Glad to see you back, I missed you TwT Looking forward to your spooky videos, Manly! Stay safe
I love ManlyBadassHero's content,he's not like one of those youtubers who talks alot and their voice's is the one your hearing and not the game but him he just speaks when it necessary, very good content👌😊
empty, like my soul.
When someone lies and says you hurt them, even if it's a kid, the best course of action is to hurt them badly enough that they can never tell a lie again
Mark Twain wrote this
So, cut the tongue out, got it
Chilla's Art is incredible. So entertaining, especially with the cool, rich tone of Manly's smooth voice.
When the mystery sack turned out to be "ANIME!" I lost it. Too perfect.
something tells me the bathhouse ghost, likely Yoko since thats what insinuated by the good ending, was likely murdered by the monk and my theory is the human sacrifices arent to appease her but to TRAP her. my reasoning for this is that she only seems to be able to manifest and manipulate within the walls of the bathhouse. clearly these seals are only temporary because we do have her jump the sister within the apartment and other oddities seem to happen around the village. in the bad ending, the monk and landlord either didnt deliver the sacrifice in time or the sacrifice wasnt good enough to trap her, causing Yoko to overwhelm and kill the two men...then she seemingly wanders out of the bathhouse, no longer trapped, and is likely wrecking havoc on the village and nearby locales. i could be wrong though, but that seems to make sense. if it's true the monk was Yoko's lover and he killed her, it's no wonder they couldnt appease her and help her spirit move on despite having a shrine nearby...because her wrath is centered on the monk, the man who killed her. being unable to appease her, they likely opted to try and trap her in her place of death instead to cover up the incident
25:09 That gasp and "no" sounded so genuinely hurt.
Me (sees the game on Steam): It came out yesterday...I wonder if Manly covered it--
Manly: Hello everyone, this is Manlybadasshero, please hold onto my beer.
It's a wonderful day whenever Manly uploads. I'm glad you're alright, and we're so happy to have you back
17:23 MY NETHERS JUST EXPLODED
fr it felt like a truck that just hit me
Chilla's art is so amazing! I hope for more in the future!
I do like that all of Chilla’s games have female protagonists
When we brought the cat back to the old lady she said to the main character "Thank you young man." I thought that was weird when she said that but it was almost definitely a mistake since we are referred to as a girl throughout the rest of the game. And I'm not sure but I think it was a male protagonist in Night Delivery.
Their games skew towards female protagonists but a few of them have male protagonists - The Radio Station, The Ghost Train, Night Delivery and Inunaki tunnel iirc.
So glad things are getting fixed and you’re back home! You’re truly an icon- no one works like you do to put out quality content
I wish Chillas Art could present a tutorial on how to make a 3D game to look like theirs. The filters and effects must be custom. Please, if you reading this, teach us programmers how to do it. I really enjoy your games.
come to brazil
@@Thud94 I don't want to go to Brazil noooooooooooo DDD:::
37:23 Those gamer instincts kicked right in.
Spooky noise?
1. Move so you aren't a stationary target
2. Quickly look around and find where the threat is
3. Back against a wall or the like so you can't be caught from behind
Man I made a mistake by checking the sister's apartment before taking the final bath so I cannot open the last door for second ending. Gonna have to replay again but it's ok, it's fun and have to discover all the secrets.
Hey Manly, happy to see you back! Hope you´re staying safe out there. Wish you all the best and thank you for the spetacular content as always!!
