Unlike several Pokemon, that have gotten somewhat weaker over the years, Mewtwo is one of those Pokemon that has been getting stronger and stronger as the series progressed. He was powerful in Red and Blue, and has been getting stronger ever since. (I'm mainly talking Mewtwo from the first movie if your wondering)

Mewtwo really is the ultimate life form of the Pokemon series.

Even the buffs to Dark, Bug, Ghost and Steel over the years aren't enough to get Mewtwo out of Ubers while Charizard pretty much HAS to run a Mega Evolution to be usable in the competitive video games.
Let's see, in Gen 1 Mewtwo is the most broken Pokemon in those games. In Gen 2 he may have gotten a weakness to dark and ghost, but he's able to learn some attacks to cover that. Gen 3, and 4 further increased what he could learn. Gen 5 he finally got Psystrike, his signature move. And Gen 6, he got two Mega's that have the highest stats in the game. Mega Rayquaza is the only Pokemon that has the same stat total as Mewtwo. I wonder what Game Freak has in store for Mewtwo in the future.

9:20 Actually, Mewtwo carrying a spoon in the manga relates to the fact that psychic people like to bend spoons with their supposed telekinetic powers. Also, think about the Twisted Spoon item in the games.

Around 7:00 JWittz, stated that the introduction to Mewtwo in the recent Pokemon movie was almost the exact same from the very first Pokemon movie. JWittz also stated that Mewtwo also has a female voice. This just proves Mat Pat's theory a little more on how the Pokemon universe SPLIT into two dimensions during X&Y. Two different outcomes and realities

The Mewtwo in the recent movie is a separate Mewtwo from the original. God I'm tired of telling people that anymore, but that is just how it is. They were lazy in giving her an identical backstory to the original, but they took her in a different direction.

I am a bit older now but I remember the childlike happiness I felt when I learnt that me and my favourite pokemon shared the same birthday and that's not too long ago...like really what are the odds? I remember the fear and respect I felt after seeing Mewtwo in the first movie. To me Mewtwo will always be the strongest...fuck Arceus :)

There is only so much you can do with Pokemon before it becomes repetitive. I think his decision to branch out into all of Nintendo is one of the best decisions he ever made on this channel.

When I first saw the comercial for the genisect movie I was like, "OMG mewtwo is in the movie?! YES! Now Ash'll still remember him since mewtwo didn't wipe his memory last time he saw him." Then I see the movie. I start freaking out because mewtwo has a girl's voice. Then the backstory is similar. THEN, Ash doesn't know mewtwo. I was annoyed and confused after that movie. But when I found out that SOMEHOW it was a different mewtwo, I was just like, "Aw HEEEEEEEEEELL no! I mean now it makes more sense. But, HEEEEEELL no!" Making another mewtwo cheapens it. There is only 1 mewtwo! They didn't even explain how another one, that looks EXACTLY like the first one was created. Will they EVER tell us?! I mean what, did some bad guy try to clone mewtwo this time or something? No, just no.

+Randomness It's basicly a second spinal cord with its own blood veins, which allows Mewtwo to get fresh oxygen quicker into his brain (and used oxygen out the other way) which thus increases his brain power and thus his abilities. Mega Mewtwo X even has two of those tubes.

Hi, with the Genesect movie there are two Mewtwos. Nintendo said so, so let's say it's official and true. Mewtwo (Male) and Mewtwo(Female) - the gender is given only based on their voices and personalities as physically they are basically genderless.
My theory is - The Kalos's scientist obtained information about Kanto's (original) Mewtwo. There is nowhere said that all the information about original Mewtwo were lost. Take a Mewtwo's castle in the first movie. Where he got the data disc about his origin, when he destroyed the original lab?
The second possibility may be, they obtained Mewtwo's DNA and since they found out it's a genetic code for new Pokemon or they knew it's from Mewtwo they attempted to create a new one. The Pokemon hunter did say it were the scientists that send him to catch Mewtwo (female) after all, so it cannot be Fuji and co, as they were killed by original Mewtwo.
And about Ash's memories about Mewtwo - you are all forgetting one small detail. The "Mewtwo returns" isn't a movie but a special, so it doesn't fit in the movie's storyline. Which means Ash's memories are still wiped out. I believe that's the reason behind this strange occurrence. Not to mention... Japanese movie's trailers tend to have a footage that isn't in the movie - take the Zorua's movie - there is a scene where Ash is looking at transformed Zorua/Zoroark into himself that makes an evil grin - nut none of this is in the movie. It's the same with Ash: "You are..." saying to Mega Mewtwo Y.
So.. sorry for such long comment. If someone is offended, I'm sorry, this is just my personal theory there is no need to be rude or anything. And I'm sorry for my not so good English. And why is there a problem with there being two Mewtwo? The Johto League anime season had 2 Lugia's - father and child if I remember correctly and it was obvious it wasn't the same Lugia from the second movie - meaning there can be 3 Lugia.
Mother and child. I remember seeing the mini arc with the Lugia and thinking "There's a baby Legendary? I thought they couldn't breed." Just a funny side-story, I thought that you COULD breed Legendaries at first. I was a loser, so I started with Gen. 5, Black in particular, so I tried putting in higher-level Pokemon, thinking that Reshiram would only breed with Pokemon of a certain level of power. I didn't think to use the internet because I was stupid.

There aren't two Mewtwos 🙄 they changed his voice and let him disconnected to the first movie (and sequel) because of copyright problems. They couldn't use the Mewtwo from the first movie (because the director of the first film didn't permit), this is why they changed the character.
But "they" are the same. There is only one Mewtwo. And as the copyright problems were solved, the last time Mewtwo appeared (2021, Pokémon Journeys) he had a male voice and was connected to the other movies. Same goes for the 2019 remake "Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution".

Thinking about Origins makes me feel really bad for Red. After receiving a mega stone and the keystone, not to mention after completing the Kanto dex, Oak outright lies to him about other Pokemon existing in different regions. He may have beaten and captured Mewtwo, but it doesn't really change the fact that he can never actually catch every Pokemon. What made it worse is Oak refusing to tell him anything about other Pokemon existing, even keeping the region located RIGHT NEXT to Kanto a secret on purpose.
This actually makes me think of Oak as a special kind of racist, with how he essentially only acknowledges Kanto Pokemon as ones that existed, and refuses to indulge in the idea of other regions having Pokemon of their own. With that in mind, he can actually be considered even worse during Origins, specifically at the point where Red received a Mega Stone in the first place, pretty much cementing the idea of other regions existing, and as such, more Pokemon. If I were in Pallet Town during that time, I'd break the news to Red slowly, see how it plays out, y'know?
Then again, maybe I'm just over-thinking this.
So basically, Professor Oak is my sister, and just won't accept that there are Pokémon he doesn't know of.

HOLY SHIT MY BIRTHDAY IS THE SAME AS MEWTWO'S. Perfectly explains my love of pokemon.
I love the Adventures manga, I think it's the best Mewtwo lore hands down and arguably the best Pokemon continuity period. Another interesting bit since it's semi related: Blaine actually also creates the Masterball specifically for the purpose of catching Mewtwo. His Mewtwo DNA arm and Mewtwo are both unstable and so the two are actually dying so the Masterball is actually also purposed to house a stabilizing liquid that stps that process. Red helps Blaine catch Mewtwo and they bond so like a Gym Leader has Mewtwo as his Pokemon for a while. They even form this epic anime cliche uber power with a time limit as Blaine and Mewtwo can battle for a period of 3 minutes before they both start hurting from the instability.
Also Mewtwo carries (or more so materializes) the spoon because it um... 'a Spoon is the Psychic's ultimate weapon', being the literal explanation of why Mewtwo spawns this thing lol.

Huh? Not in the manga. In the manga that always his main weapon, a giant spoon staff.

Mewtwo creates this spoon out of nothing specifically to use as a weapon staff style (even uses it to fight AND IMPALE Deoxys), and the literal response to him making this is 'the spoon is the psychic's ultimate weapon', that wasn't me guessing, it was the literal given reason lol.
***** Oh he still has all of his psychic power he's not made out to be weak at all when you actually read it all. He just also has a spoon he uses like a staff of javelin in the case of running it through Deoxys' chest lol.

Of course it matters. There's two Mewtwo's, the first one was male - at least with the voice, and the second one is female. It could explain why Ash didn't reconize her in the movie with Genesects.
So the female was depicted as pink, male is white right??
Nah, IronicSkeleton is right about voice actresses/actors. Take Leslie from The Amazing World of Gumball for example. His original voice was female but changed to more male. Also, saying someone is a guy just because they have deep voice: That’s not always accurate with anime and cartoon logic. Also, Mewtwo’s genderless. I forgot their names but only 4 Legendary Pokémon have genders, and Mewtwo is not one of them. Also, this may be a small detail in the games, but if one looks carefully, you see no male or female gender signs. Also one last thing. Lumpy’s Space Princess and Mrs. Tentacles are voiced by males while Sniffles and Mime are voiced by females. LMP and Mrs. Tentacles are females and Mime and Sniffles are male. This proves that voices and voice actresses/actors have nothing to do with the gender. Can I be any clearer?

Great retrospective of my hands-down favorite Pokemon.
But I'm surprised you left out any mention of the subtle differences in Mewtwo's characterization in the the Japanese and US versions of the first movie: the Japanese version painted Mewtwo as a much more confused, insecure character, where the US version characterizes him as much more malicious.
But like I said, greatest Pokemon, great segment.
Mewtwo (along with Mew of course) is the greatest and most powerful Pokémon ever, it's my favourite character out of the entire franchise!

I was like 13 years old, I screamed at the TV Screen on the stats records I failed over 99 times on the previous opponent (When you fail against Newtwo you have to face Gary again) But after WEEKS I did, I beat Mewtwo and he was HARD AS BALLZ.

Mewtwo has always been my favorite. I can't even explain why because it goes beyond his power, potential, and his flair for the philosophical. He's one of the few animated characters I call a friend. When I saw the second Mewtwo, it took me some time to get used to her but she's grown on me all the same. I personally would love an interaction piece between the two. Femtwo is supposed to be Nintendo's way of "reintroducing" Mewtwo to today's kids, on the off chance they never saw The First Movie. She's supposed to be the same one as the one we older folks know with a re-imagined backstory so it's easy to see why people may not like her. I find it easy to reconcile both Mewtwo existing at once. And I think I just found a video idea.

The Mewtwo short in the first movie focuses on feels, just feels. "What's that, you wanted a good time? How about a bowl of feels instead!"
Yeah, I watched it for the first time when I was quite a bit younger and I had no idea what was coming, so at first I was fascinated, "Oh, look, baby Mewtwo, he's so cute," and then..."Please, Amber. Come back. Don't go, please! AMBER!" And I thought the first movie was a tearjerker.

Josh Filby Because, multiple legendary Pokemon. The entire show tries to treat each legendary as if there's only one of their species. There isn't. Look at the Lugia from the Pokemon 2000/Power of One movie, and then look at the ones that appear in the main continuity of the anime. There's a mother and a baby one.

I think Mewtwo is going to be killer in Smash 4 because of the meta game. Smash 4 focuses much more on punishing mistakes while Mewtwo is super freaking floaty that people will have to adapt just to figure out Mewtwo's jump and fall patterns which should give him a super easy punish nearly everytime. Also his side B and down B should be really good to charge a nice forward smash to their face.
This is assuming that they don't revamp Mewtwo a bit.

Silver always got to me... He was a pretty dang sad character! And Sird wanted to make me shoot myself. I have to say, the FRLG chapters were intense! Especially *cough cough* the end of the round.

I don't see it happening, from what I've heard (and correct me if I'm wrong because I very well could be) Dan Green retired from voice acting because he had to take care of his children by himself after his wife died. That's all I know.
