Loved the Dukes statement, "nature can be quite the nuisance"!

Perhaps we are the irritable ones. Nature just is.

I've enjoyed Chatsworth since I was a boy. It is a magical place. I was 14 or so when I got my first "proper" camera (a Zenit B with f3.5 Industar lens - £19.95). I used my 1 inch OS map to trespass around Emperor Lake, high above the house (the lake that feeds the fountain) snapping pics on a roll of Tri-X. I developed and printed my own pics then.
I distinctly remember seeing the gamekeepers' gibbet up there - impaled moles and other dead creatures. I thought it pretty grisly at the time!

That they had harnessed the power of the gravity fed water is very relevant today.

Isn't this the house that was used as Mr. Darcy residence in the 2006 version of Pride and Prejudice?

What a ridiculous sweeping statement to make. I know plenty of very ordinary people who are quite awful. It can work both ways.

The emperor fountain dates from the1840s, not the 1740s. Also, the present house was begun at the end of the 1600s to replace the Elizabethan building.

Billy Hartington was killed in WWII after having become engaged to Kathleen Kennedy
I had thought that they intended to live at Chatsworth after the war but have not found the familial connection between the Cavendishes, Hartingtons CHatsworth and Devonshire. London
Can you sort this out please?

I came from a poor family and life threw me in with a lot of rich people and they were sad and had problems and no way of sortting their lives out as they ahdn't been taught. I Don't envy the rich, they have too much baggage !
