Hi Linda! John Manners the 9th Duke of Rutland and his wife moved into the house in the late 1800s after it had stood in "mothballs" for 200 years... they returned the place into a home. My most favourite hall in England 💖, so sad, so many of this era were lost in time i.e 'modernised' as fashion changed, thank you for walking us around. I really must research where they found the wall lights in the dining hall as another 💖 😁
Hi! Thank you so much for watching and commenting we really appreciate it! I think it's one of our favourite places too... it really is like stepping back in time! The lights are possibly 1920s ? Hi! Thankyou so very much! We really appreciate your kind comment and support... it's amazing to have you watching from the USA... We hope you have a great weekend, Best wishes from us both 😊
What a beautiful place and so amazingly original. What a treasure. One of my direct ancestral lines goes through Geoffrey Bolelyn and Anne Hoo, so Hever castle was their ancestral home. If the family who owns Haddon also owned Hever then we are most likely distantly related. How lucky they are to have ended up with it. I have direct ancestry also going back through the Fitz Allen and Howard families who still reside at Arundel castle. And I descend from the English Kings line. If all of these beautiful ancestral homes were a race I'd say that we missed winning it by a nose. 😃
@@karensullivan8458 Hi Karen! Thankyou so much for watching and commenting on our Haddon video! It is one of our favourite houses! Your lineage is amazing... to have those connections is fantastic! I guess 2nd son syndrome must have played a part as everything went to the 1st born in those days... sending best wishes from us both 😊
@@chrisisjustme7546 Thank you for the lovely reply. Yes, it was exactly that, second son syndrome and sometimes a daughter. I just started doing genealogy a year ago and was hoping to find maybe someone who was knighted so imagine my delight when I found so many royal connections. I've found that once you get back into the royal houses it is all that as they tried marrying their second sons and daughters into other royal houses. We go back into some houses through the first born heirs all the way back into legend. For instance, I just found one branch coming out of an English royal family that goes back into ancient Britain ruled by the Romans. It went then into Emperors and Caesars of Rome, through into Assyrian rulers and then finally back into Troy. Eventually coming out to Prince Aeneas who was the half mortal son of the Goddess Aphrodite!! As legend has it. He was said to be the last Trojan warrior because he was protected in battle by his Godly relatives in battle and because of this the only one who survived. His sons, were who Rome was named after and his Grandfathers, Ilus who Homer wrote the Ilead for and Ilus' son Tros, who founded Troy. Of course there is no real record going back that far, but they have the legend of who was born to who and it was going back that far and it was amazing to find. I am learning history this way in a way that I never knew it before. I loved this video of yours. It was so beautifully done. I have subscribed to your channel and I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos today. It's a lovely rainy day here, and I'm looking forward to resting and viewing more of your beautiful videos. Thank you again for taking the time to reply. Blessings.
@karensullivan8458 Thankyou so much! We mostly visit historic houses but we also add a few videos of our other adventures including holidays etc! Your genealogy is fascinating... keep on digging! With 7 degrees of separation we may be related too! All the best 😊

Hi Neil and Ant congratulations on 1k subscribers well deserved your videos are so well presented and full of such a lot of information. We loved your visit to Haddon Hall we must have just missed each other again, one day we will cross paths and share that cup of coffee. Living near to Belvoir we love the link with these two magnificent properties, what a choice they had between the two. We really enjoyed your video a great job. The wood panelling here is wonderful. You would have to go a long way to get a more beautiful setting and garden than this. The roses are just wonderful against the walls. We agree it feels like stepping back in time you can imagine being in tudor times with the flowing dresses taking a walk before a grand banquet. The chapel walls are amazing so atmospheric. We enjoyed a coffee too. The food looked good. A big 👍 from us. Hope you are having a great week. Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️

I hope we do bump into you at some point... the first coffee is definitely on us! We hope you're having a great week, and sending you our very best wishes for a lovely weekend 😀
I first learned about this about two years ago while researching my family tree. My 12 times or so great grandmother was the original Dorothy Vernon of Haddon Hall. I did not know anything about this, but from my family tree, there was a couple of short stories recorded about the Dorothy Vernon legend, and after several plays were written and performed in London, Australia, and New York, in the 1923 or so a movie, starring a Mary Pickwith, was made. Dorothy Vernon was also a 12th Great Grandmother of Lady Diana Spencer, William and Harry's mother. The plays went thru several revisions over the years, with Dorothy ridding off during the night to rescue Mary Queen of Scots being persued by Qween Elizabeth I, and other revisions into Cromwell's occupation of England.

Hi guys. I'm just curious, but have you any interest in great houses and palaces outside the UK? I got interested in these grand old structures when I was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, during the cold war. I was stationed there from 1981-1983. I spent all my free time roaming old palaces and castles in Europe, from ruined and abandoned to privately owned, and everything in between. But the palace of Caserta is the one that blows me away. You have to see it to believe it. Love your videos.
Hi! Thankyou for watching and commenting! Great question and yes we'd love to! We recently watched a video on Caserta it is HUGE isn't it... it is definitely on our bucket list! We'd like to see Versailles too... We have talked about a European road trip so I think one-day it will happen. We hope your week has got off to a good start and we send you our very best wishes , Neil and Ant 😊

Hi 👋 Guys. A stunning place. The atmosphere there must be amazing. Maybe a ghost or two lurking around . Was that the tinkling piano intro to a Johnnie Mathis song ?. I like his vocals. From Carl in NZ.
Hi Carl! I'm sure there must be a few spirits wandering the corridors at night ... though it really doesn't feel at all spooky... perhaps it does at night though, we would love a wander around after dark! Thank you so much for watching and commenting we appreciate your support. Best wishes from Neil and Ant 😊
Beautiful building, beautiful interior decorations, gorgeous gardens, but these wonderful places always seem to me somehow cold, and 'unlived-in'. In fact, the most welcoming part of the house seemed to be the kitchen area, which was the 'busiest' place, with its utensils and workaday tools. Do the owners actually live there?
@vivienhodgson3299 Hi Vivien! Thanks for watching and commenting... in their time these houses would have bustled with dozens of staff, gardeners and big families living in them... now they are just maintained I guess. We love Haddon, it is only 20 minutes from our home. Best wishes from us both 😊
Though Chatsworth is grandiose, Haddon Hall is much more cozy, it's more homely and less like a museum or showpiece. It's well worth visiting the two at around the same time to compare them. You could compare both with Hardwick Hall which isn't far from them. Go on a weekday or slightly off-season when it's less crowded but beware that Haddon closes for the winter season.

My wife and I have always loved Haddon Hall. Your video work and commentary are very enjoyable. But we have to mute the audio and have captioning, which we would like to avoid because it interferes with the visuals. But it is difficult to get lost in the wonderful atmosphere of the place while hearing the constant presence of the background soundtrack. To us, it is an irritating and unnecessary addition to an otherwise fine video. Maybe you will reconsider its use here. But we did just subscribe, and we look forward to seeing more of your work.

This is one of our all time favourite houses! It is magical, a video doesn't convey the atmosphere but the atmosphere is incredible! This house is frozen in time after standing empty for 200 years ... thankyou so much for watching 😊
I really enjoy your videos. Your voice is wonderful, very calming and soothing.
Hi Deborah! Thank you so much, so pleased that you enjoyed it 😊 Thankyou for watching and taking the time to comment we really do appreciate it... Haddon cast its spell over us and I'm sure it won't be long before we pay a return visit... the gardens on their own are really worth a visit. We send you our best wishes and hope you have a great weekend 😀
Magnificent home and gardens. Since it was empty for 200 years, did the house require a complete restoration.
Hi Linda! John Manners the 9th Duke of Rutland and his wife moved into the house in the late 1800s after it had stood in "mothballs" for 200 years... they returned the place into a home. It had been maintained with minimal staff and maintainance but needed upgrading and tender loving care... they made it their lives work to get the house and estate back as we see it today... Thank you for watching! Hope you have a great weekend... Best wishes from us both 😊
Just stunning 😳 you are so good at videoing ….thanks so much for bringing us along ….
Cheers from Sugarland Texas 🇺🇸🇬🇧
@cindy-wo4qt Hi Cindy! Thankyou so much for watching and taking the time to comment, we really appreciate it. We loved every minute at Haddon it's a really magical place... the gardens are the icing on the cake! Sending our very best wishes to you in Texas ... Neil and Ant 😊

Most enjoyable. Thanks. 😊😊😊
@jimmajer5503 Hi Jim! Thankyou so much! Pleased you enjoyed looking around Haddon with us... it is a wonderful old house! Best wishes Neil and Ant 😊
They are lovely... The dining room was part of the original banqueting hall originally but we think it makes the perfect dining space... Best wishes from us both 😊
What an amazing place. Thanks so much. Wish I was there with you. Of course I’d probably get on your nerves with all my oooing and ahhing. Ha
😆 they'd probably blend in just fine with ours! It really is amazing, parts completely as they were 900 years ago! 😊
Congratulations on hitting 1,000 subscribers, guys. Cheers from the USA. Love your videos.
Hi! Thankyou so very much! We really appreciate your kind comment and support... it's amazing to have you watching from the USA... We hope you have a great weekend, Best wishes from us both 😊

Magnificent!
@@susanstandard8727 Hi Susan! Thanks for watching! Best wishes to you 😊
What a beautiful place and so amazingly original.
Always very much appreciated 😊. But, I must comment, the editing you do takes skill and effort that I realize you do for us , your viewers. I hear from other vloggers that it takes a lot of time. Just had to let you know that it is very much appreciated. In Hawaiian we way MAHALO😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🍍🏄🏼♂️🚢🚢🏄♀️🏖️🏖️🌈
Hi Richard ... thankyou for watching and for your very kind comment, it is very much appreciated. Learning all the time and trying to make good videos [some turn out better than others to be honest] Haddon was a real pleasure to visit and this is a video we enjoyed making that turned out well we think... Haddon is not too far from us and it is always a joy to go... it is wonderful that you are watching from such a beautiful place! We send you our very best wishes 😊
I know this house,stunning.
@valeriewarren273 Hi Valerie! Thankyou for watching and taking the time to comment... Haddon is a magical place, we first visited 40 years ago and still find a visit just as exciting today! Best wishes from us both 😊
Hi Neil and Ant congratulations on 1k subscribers well deserved your videos are so well presented and full of such a lot of information.
Hi Dave and Dawn! Thankyou for watching and for the congrats! 🥰 When I saw your vlog last week I kept wondering if we were there at the same time lol 😆 It's such a wonderfully romantic house and gardens we completely lost ourselves there for a few hours it was so nice... and the restaurant serves really nice good quality food 😋 Ant really enjoyed the gardens on this visit he loves roses🌹 The Long gallery is such a beautiful room, we love the soft colour of the panelling it's so unusual!
Wonderful video. One of the best in the series.
@retroguy49uk Thankyou so much! Haddon is one of our all time favourite houses and only 25 minutes from home. We had such a great time on this visit everything was a pleasure including the garden and the meal at the end! Really appreciate you watching and commenting... Neil and Ant 😊

Congrats on 1000 subscribers! Don’t forget me when you make it to Hollywood 🎉
Thankyou! UA-cam account manager maybe?!
For some reason I have no comment area on my IPad which is frustrating when I watch your videos so using my phone. I so enjoy your tours of these wonderful places. I so miss coming to the UK.
Hi Deborah! Thankyou so much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment via your phone... so kind of you. So pleased you enjoy our little outings we love touring these houses... We particularly enjoyed our day at Haddon Hall... We hope you have a great weekend. Best wishes from us both 😊

Visited this beautiful place and was told it was the first house in England to have a discreet area called a bedroom
@dereckbrannigan6195 Hi Dereck! It's an amazing old place... wd love visiting it! That's a great piece of info ... thanks for sharing! Best wishes Neil and Ant 😊
Best wishes from us both 😊
So beautiful! Thank you.
Greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽❤️🇬🇧
@cordeliaadams4898 Hi! Thankyou so much for watching... pleased you enjoyed seeing Haddon. Our very best wishes sent to you in Mexico! Neil and Ant 😊
@@chrisisjustme7546 thank you! It was as if I was visiting Haddon House with both of you from my very warm country 😁. Such an enjoyable video.

👩🏻💻🇺🇲Did they use the house or room in the house to film "Lady Jane" 1986, with Helena Bonham Carter? It looks so familiar, especially the long room up stairs.😊
@dolldoll2914 Thanks for watching and commenting! We are huge fans of Haddon and fortunate to live close to it... see below a list of films made there... Best wishes Neil and Ant 😊
Firebrand (2023): Jude Law and Alicia Vikander star in this movie that was filmed entirely at Haddon Hall

Jane Eyre: The hall has been used for multiple versions of this classic novel, including the 1996, 2006, and 2011 versions

The Princess Bride (1987): A cult classic starring Cary Elwes and Mandy Patinkin

Pride & Prejudice (2005): Keira Knightley stars in this film

Elizabeth (1998): Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush, and Joseph Fiennes star in this film

The Other Boleyn Girl (2008): This film was also shot at Haddon Hall

Lady Jane Grey (1985): Helena Bonham Carter stars in this film
The Silver Chair (1990): Part of the BBC's Chronicles of Narnia series
The Lady and the Highwayman (1988): Oliver Reed and Hugh Grant star in this film
@chrisisjustme7546 👩🏻💻🇺🇲I have seen 3 films on the list. Elizabeth, Lady Jane, and the Other Bolyn Girl. No wonder it's so familiar! ☺
@dolldoll2914 one of our favourite films is The other Boleyn girl! When you walk around the house it is like being in a period film! 😊

Hi Carl and Susan... thankyou for watching, commenting and subscribing. Haddon is unique in its history and atmosphere, we love visiting . The gardens are a delight we could spend hours just wandering around outside. We have a Norfolk trip coming up and will certainly try a video without backing... We hope you have a good week and send you our best wishes 😊

Why do content producers feel the need to fill the soundscape with annoying repeating music tracks and maddening drum backbeats?
