Put a Pedal Commander on it and the lag will be gone!! FYI. That Hemi won't be able to keep up after that, lol!! I owned a 2015 2500hd with the 6.0L . Installed the Pedal Commander and it came ALIVE! That lag was never seen again. It also improved its towing abilities dramatically.
People in NC- filling trash bags with gasoline panicking for no reason. Ben and Casey- hammering their V8 Jeeps on both channels. Love it...also great job on both!
The delay you are feeling from a dead stop could be torque management but I’d gamble that the power enrichment (PE) settings could use some tweaking-they can be over a certain RPM or a certain time at WOT. Your cam may play into this but I don’t remember how big the cam was
Very impressed with the way the LS sounds and runs now compared to the previous video. I love this swap. Makes me wanna do an LS swap to my ‘16 JK 4dr.
That's just your ls. My truck does same exact thing stock. They don't start running good till 3k or so , also the drive by wire hurts them to but those can be "adjusted "
check your tow control on the transmission the truck that the transmission came out of should of had a button on the gear shift (center of shift knob) for tow mode that could be what is causing the throttle lag
I seriously thought we needed to send a search party out for you and Ben? I can’t believe you all have a life, work and family is above all these great videos! LOL. Thanks for another great one!
Guys that hesitation i think maybe a vacuum leak . I would seriously look into that as a most likely scenario .. because on a dirt road my 3.6 would instantly spin the tires off when i punch it .. that is a pretty poor take off .. love the the project been waiting 6 weeks for this just trying to help ya’ll get it straight… love it tho keep us posted
A vacuum leak would not cause the engine to run like that. That is a tuning issue or they are just out of the cams power and. Only way to tell is a datalog. If AFR looks good then it’s just the cam/converter/gears
Been following this swap since the beginning and you're really REALLY making me consider an LS swap in my LJ! Great work and enjoy the best made Jeep ever!
Awesome y'all!! The Jeeps are amazing! Thinking of doing the 5.7 hemi swap on my 17 JK so I can use the trans, but I might regret not having the 485 hp lol. And congrats in the new pup!!
Awesome series! I have my 2004 Wrangler for sale, but I also have a "beat to hell" suburban with a perfect 5.3L in it. You got me really thinking about doing this!
As an Khaki LJ and Silver Gladiator owner I just want to say how much I have enjoyed all of your videos. Given me so many ideas that my wife has shot down but I am looking at as LS install on the LJ
I had a 95 Suburban 1500, if you slowing added gas it really accelerated quickly and smoothly, if you just step on the gas it revved but didn't get but didn't get up to speed as fast.
I'm sure there is passenger side controls you can get since most of the Rural Letter Carriers (mailman) don't have right hand drive vehicles around here. When I was a kid the mailman was a super tall man so he just straddled the console.
Awesome video!!....Jeep sounds killer!!!....love how it turned out!!... and when you do the long arm and new shocks....I'd love to buy the shocks you take off!!
Nice update. Love the look on your faces with the 2nd gear "punch". I was beginning to think you guys had kids, jobs, and other life responsibilities that kept you from posting in a while. :)
My wife's 2003 Trailblazer with the 5.3L did the same thing. It was bonkers with response while the truck was in motion, but had major delay from the start. I chalked it up to electronic throttle management. Perhaps the throttle response needs to be programmed, or if that is not possible try something like a Pedal Commander.
I think you did a great job here. With the charger sitting in the driveway you didn't have to wire the jeep but you did for UA-cam content thats awesome. My terminator x has an expected shipping date in early June. What about yours? If you got the max you will be able to adjust shift points yourself and get that thing really spicy. My cammed 6.0 LS to a tremec TR-4050 is all bolted up and ready to go, just waiting on the terminator x and radiator and the Tomb Raider TJ will be ripping. Thanks for all the info on this build. Please do a wiring video on the terminator to LS to jeep dash gauges when it comes in.
You only think it has power at the moment but It's missing a bunch of power from a dead stop. Definitely need tuning. It's almost as if it's not starting in 1st gear from a dead stop. Might be starting in 2nd or 3 rd.
I’m curious if the tps is causing your delay from a stand still. It may not be reading full throttle correct. Just a thought. Nice to see it back on the road. Thanks for the update.
@@nickcooper14 that would be a project and a half but idk if you want it to be gladiator length, though I have an LJ and my buddy has a TJ and I understand why you'd want the room
zero to death wobble real quick. lol made me laugh out loud like a crzy person. enjoy the builds. made me want to pull the trigger on my v8 swap on my JK
The Holley terminator will get rid of that torque management issue. However you may want to get a spare 4l60 built and put on the shelf for when that one spits its guts
My dad’s ‘99 TJ has a higher mileage 2.5L, and I’ve been lookin at different options to increase the power! I watched your entire LS swap playlist in two days, and I really love this as an option….I know y’all did some extra things along the project that I wouldn’t necessarily be doin (but definitely kudos to y’all for doin them, as this is literally the definition of BADASS), but the amount of time it seems that it took is most likely gonna be longer than I would want to invest (just time constraints and part of my health bein my main concerns). If I could possibly message y’all on another platform, I sure would appreciate it, if y’all had time to answer a few questions! If not, I understand, and my main questions would be, for just an engine swap (engine only, no transmission), if I were workin on it strictly on the weekends, about how many weekends would you think it would take, and for someone fluent in “mechanicing”, on a 1-10 scale, what would y’all rate the difficulty? Thanks!!! Oh, and y’all definitely picked up another subscriber!!! 👍🏻
Hm. Last time I had a power steering whine, it was because my power steering pump had power steering fluid in it. Apparently my model vehicle required transmission fluid (?) for the power steering pump. Yeah. I didn't do it. But for the record, the whine was quite a bit worse...
JGG. Sounds like a 'hole' in your tune ? The injectors might be over fuelling at WOT from standing start at low rpm ! Bring on the long arm kit and also look at 'Terrafirma' suspension products too. V.
Just added long tube headers on my 2011 JK yesterday and I'm working on the tune via a Superchips TrailDash2 tuner. Is there another way I can tune it? This tuner has panels that I can't access, for whatever reason. If SuperChips can't get back to me tomorrow, I'm gonna have to come up with a plan. I believe I'm running way lean to where it feels like I don't have to even hit the gas for it to go - but when I do hit the gas, it has nothing close to what it had with the stock manifolds on there. LOL! I think I'm 20hp less, at this point.
@@JeepGearGadgets I called a place today and they're getting me in on Monday at 10am. I ran my fuel trim signals while driving today and the lean signal is below the NUMBERS on the chart! LOL! They're bottoming out. And if I punch the accelerator over 3,000rpm, I get this weird rattling-can sound coming from my exhaust out of the back. Almost sound like a Honda Civic someone tried to soup-up. LOL! The Jeep drives better if I don't hit the accelerator too hard. And I ran a horsepower test on it and could only reach 130hp - when I was doing 155hp (2nd gear) last week with the stock setup! LOL! Thanks for the advice. Keep on doing what ya do! A lot of us are watching and learning more than you know! You're historic, and forever cemented into the history of Jeeping!!!!
Just going by watching the video I don't think the tune is really off. It's a 5.3 LS. You don't get instant power, especially with any kind of an aftermarket cam. You have to get into it's powerband.
The engine doesn’t make peak power off the hit. Once it gets up in the power ban, that’s when the power comes in. Also look at your cam specs. Prob doesn’t make power until 2500 +. that’s probably why it starts spinning the tires a little later. Plus it’s rotating 37s which needs more power to spin. Of course this is just theory and what I’ve seen. Every tune is different
You might need to change the torque converter to a higher stall to match the cam and intake.
Good job guys taking in the stray dog ,he's a happy camper now!!! Dogs are such blessing in our live'[s !!!!!
Tuner sporting the Cleetus hat! Nice. Great work on the rigs and the stray dog. He found the right home. Thanks for the video

I've been thinking about putting a v8 into my 1999 TJ for a while now and that first clip really just sold me.
Glad that you finally posted a video, I've been wondering.

You need a higher stall converter to compensate for the cam swap on the 5.3 for the low end torque
The exhaust sounds great. I'm ordering the same engine mounts and exhaust for my YJ build.
As a flame red LJ owner. I have been waiting for this 😂
There is another

Missed you guys! Sounds amazing and I can't wait for the video of your opinion on the best swap as my JK miles slowly pile up.
Added up parts list to roughly 7k so far, not including motor. Not bad, sounds bad ass !!!
Stock ecu pulls a TON of timing off the line yo spare the transmission.
Man the jeeps sounds amazing crazy how far this jeep has come!!
Do a mid arm lift...you don’t really need a long arm. Check out the Savvy lift.
I have a stock 06 LJ Rubicon and been considering a long arm kit. It will be interesting to see what kit you install.
You need some form of pedal commander. My Dodge with a Hemi was the same way until I put one in.
So you could be dealing with torque management, it could be Ben's air filter placement again or it could have too much cam

"It was a little chaotic, Ben had the gas pedal in his hand" LMAOOOOO Not something you hear everyday
I love the videos and the LS swap, but the best news is the new puppy
For that gas pedal idea, there are companies that make hand throttles for TJs. I'm not sure if they would work with the swap though.
Ohhh yeahhh. Go pro does it justice even with the wind.
Hearing it is making me want to do the swap even more.
Congrats on the AWESOME build!

Your skinny pedal may be the issue flyby wire has a lag in response.
Do I see a hemi vs LS race in the near future??
You guys are killing me I am now looking for a motor for my jk. Dang it
I’ve never had a canned motor but the 5.3 in my Yukon is the same way lags on the start and then opens up I’m assuming it’s a “LS” thing
How would I get away with doing this in my 2015. As far as inspection and stuff. Love your vids

hopefully you guys can have a meet up around utrgv
That’s sound is amazing!
Love the LJ. LS. When do you want to do mine?
Check the torque management. My 2014 has that and it was awful
How did you build your exhaust? What muffler are you using?
That thing sounds nasty at an idle, you may check out a peddle comander to take some of that lag out.
