I was in middle school when Supertramp came out and we all loved it and I still love them to this day. Maybe it’s because the only put out three albums or at least really good ones as far as I know and then they kind of left the scene, but their music was and is amazing.
The real "Crime of the Century" is that there are so many people who still have not heard all seven songs on this classic LP!! Thank you for doing your part to help change that, Shawn, and before you are done with this album make sure you read to "Asylum"!!!!
You definitely got the Supertramp bug, Shawn. My favorite of all their albums - all the songs are amazing! Been a fan going on 50 years, and I never get tired of their sound. Be sure to check out Rudy. Supertramp didn’t get really popular in the U.S. but were huge in Europe.
School. I remember hearing them back in the 70’s when I was working at a stereo store, and it was unusual because you knew you were listening to true musicians in a band.
Supertramp has so many great songs and albums that I am at a loss as to why they aren't already in the R&R Hall of Fame, when artists are being inducted into the Hall, like Dolly Parton (who is awesome), who have little or nothing to do with Rock & Roll. Blue Oyster Cult, is also not in the Hall, which I think is a crime against music itself, seeing as BOC Rocks hard and also has made many great songs. If Supertramp and Blue Oyster Cult don't belong in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, then there is no justice. BTW, great song and reaction. ❤✌
Excellent! More Supertramp. They sure know how to build a song into an epic. It is a crime that these guys are not at the top of prog rock musicians. They were huge with my group.
They didn’t receive much airplay in the US until the album Breakfast in America. Here in Canada, we were lucky enough to be introduced to them when Crime of the Century came out. In my 62 years, I’ve heard a lot of great music from the 60’s to the 90’s and in retrospect, Supertramp has become my favourite out of all of them. I’m glad these reaction channels are discovering them and hopefully giving them the wider audience they deserve. Not a bad song from Crime of the Century to Famous Last Words.
Thanks for this comment, I noticed this many years ago and am surprised that there is little mention of this musically brilliant aspect of this instrumental crescendo. This is definitely one of my favourite Supertramp numbers because of this. A rock classic.
One of my favorite Supertramp songs - it has it ALL! Glad you found this one. Could tell you were really feeling it and yes, it is heavy, almost haunting.
Thank you for reacting to my favourite song Shawn, it means a lot. For those of us old enough to have always loved Supertramp, we know they are one of the greats. UA-cam is slowly helping everyone else catch up, and you are helping.
This song really deserves some proper musical analysis. In the latter section the way the drums unexpectedly kick in across the beat of the piano, the syncopated strings across that entire section. You so rarely hear such masterful composition these days and hearing it again here only goes to amplify how good these bands were during the early seventies.
I think Supertramp had such a unique sound, I guess it's not for everyone. That's how I would answer the question, "Why aren't they mentioned with the great bands?" All I can tell you is that when I was a freshman in college in 1976 I heard them being played and loudly, throughout the dorms. It's fantastic that they are turning on a new generation of music fans.
Well, if it helps, in interior Brazil in 84 I heard it from the first time and for me it's Pink Floyd AND Supertramp tied in the top. A bit later came Marillion but I digress.
I miss album covers, liner notes and lyrics. I seriously challenge anyone to name one bad Supertramp track…at least before Hodgson’s departure. Try Fool’s Overture.
This song is a real mood - I can see you were getting it, too. I love how it pares back to just a single keyboard before building again - a bit like the guitar in Yes's "Starship Trooper". The Supertramp albums "Crisis What Crisis", "Crime of the Century" and "Breakfast In America" are almost completely faultless and worth album reviews. "Even in the Quietest Moments" is nearly as good. Beyond that it's more patchy, but most bands would kill for a run of four albums as good as those. The "CotC" album should really be taken as a whole, track by track in order.
One of my all-time top Rock Bands of my list.....knew them when they first came out in the public with this album which displays their extraordinary talent. Great musicians. Great transitions like Yes and Genesis and great vocals. This is a masterpiece song...and whole album is a masterpiece!!! Great reactions Shawn to this song....and when I heard the whole album, I got chills and reacted the same way you reacted!!!!
I had this album in 85 or 86, I don't remember well, and Supertramp IS the best band. Most people my age knows about them and put them together with Pink Floyd... maybe the Zeppelin, Stones and Purple people were more snobbish about it (not US, south hemisphere here) but my thing was Pink Floyd, Supertramp and Marillion. Only one of those have the recognition it deserves.
While this song is fantastic at any time, it’s absolutely mind blowing to listen to while driving down a mostly empty highway with a moon rising in the distance and nothing but stars ahead of you , crank the stereo and fly
Not sure if you heard the harmonica opening notes from the album opener School at the very end of the song to close out the album, so it goes full circle
Go back to listen to how the organ bleeds into Roger's weeping guitars. That has to be one of the most masterful interludes in all of music. The quick delivery to a conclusion tossed the instruments masterfully unto an abyss. The piano expresses a vicious cycle. The rise and fall of the crescendoing strings at the end reveal that all the evil going on in the world is really weeping. There isn't a hint of pretention or doubt in their presentation. The only reason why Supertramp has always been a hidden treasure and still remains that way today is because very few of their peers have complimented them.
We lost a great singer yesterday, Jack Russell of Great White, can you do any thing from him in memorandum, he was one of the best. Absolutely love anything from Supertramp.👍
This song could have extended one full side of an album, and it would leave you wanting to flip it over and continue the other side for more of the same song!!!!!
I think Supertramp doesn’t get the same recognition, for a couple of reasons. One they broke with their first big album, Crime of the Century, a bit later than the others, so they didn’t get the same leg up. Two, they broke about the same time that listeners were turning to Punk Rock in rebellion over the bloated pretentiousness of some progressive rock bands and they were caught in the crossfire
They don't make music like they used to. This type of music was on the radio when I was a kid. To see how dumbed down and paint by Numbers music has become, makes me sad. Yes, there are a few bands and writers who are creative, but today, they are sadly few and far between. Music used to be creative and creative music used to be easy to find. Today, it still can be found, but you must wade through so much trite shit that is the audio equivalent of children's literature to find it.
They are both great albums but Breakfast in America is the best. It outsold Crime of the Century 2 to 1. And I well say Breakfast in America is better for me. I had a very nice stereo system and wore these albums out. Its amazing the studeo production of clarity of instrumentation of these albums. Ya really gotta turn these babies volume up

They are in my humble opinion one of the top five artists ever to record music. I was hooked from day one.❤

Rudy is Rick's magnum opus. Not to be missed.
School. I remember hearing them back in the 70’s when I was working at a stereo store, and it was unusual because you knew you were listening to true musicians in a band.
This is one of my favorite of the keyboard based "instrumentals" that made Supertramp great. Nice reaction.
Even in the Quietest Moments is right up there with Crime of the Century. Imo.
Yeah, either one can be my favorite Supertramp album.

If you listen closely the 8-note piano ostinato that starts at 2:58 adds notes as the piece goes on.
Thanks for this comment, I noticed this many years ago and am surprised that there is little mention of this musically brilliant aspect of this instrumental crescendo. This is definitely one of my favourite Supertramp numbers because of this.
A rock classic.
One of the best reaction to Crime of the century I've seen so far.
One of my favorite Supertramp songs - it has it ALL! Glad you found this one. Could tell you were really feeling it and yes, it is heavy, almost haunting.
Another SUPERTRAMP masterpiece!
Thank you for reacting to my favourite song Shawn, it means a lot.

Awesome!!! My favorite band! I've been listening to them non stop lately.❤
Try Hide in your shell. Beautiful lyrics!
You must see the live version in Paris 1977. I seen them on that tour it’s so good. Great reactions thx

We were spoiled for music in the 70s
Good one Shawn, this is one of them songs that you never get tired of.
A masterpiece.
Yeah, for all that I love Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and the other heavy hitters, I think Supertramp really is on a different level.
Like the others you mentioned, I think Supertramp carved their own niche
This group was gigantic in Canada
Just keep digging cos there is so much more gold in this mine
Fool's Overture is worth a reaction. I suspect you would love it!
I like their song “ Take The Long Way Home. “ This is very different, but it’s cool, sounds like it’s made for a movie.👍💙
I graduated HS in ‘79 and Supertramp was everywhere. They were very popular and are in my top 5.❤️
Well, if it helps, in interior Brazil in 84 I heard it from the first time and for me it's Pink Floyd AND Supertramp tied in the top. A bit later came Marillion but I digress.

I hear that
Been waiting for you to get to this one. Epic!

You Need To Do ( Rudy ) Best Song On The Album 🙂
Crime and School are the best for me.

This album is a gem, "Rudy" is IMHO the best song, if you check it, you'll not be disappointed.
Agree, Rudy is a choice number to hit!
Amazing song, always been one of my favourites.
Pretty cool, eh? That's why l saw Supertramp 4 times ✨️🎶✨️
Only once for me. My favorite use of visuals live for any act, and best opening of any concert I ever saw.
Wish I could hear this song again for the first time
Supertramp is always an experience...love them
So This Is What You Call Reallll Supertramp Shawn. 💯🙂
Excellent song! Excellent reaction! 😀
I listened to it again…OMG it’s so good, romantic & beautifully put together!👍👏👏👏👏👏👏♥️🌹🔥
WATCH THEM IN ACTION IN THE LIVE VERSION OF PARIS 1979
Their traditional concert ender, synths instead of strings, still epic

Absolutely love anything from Supertramp.👍
Lost Greg Kihn also yesterday. Rock and roll heaven is raging today.
Absolutely agree!
Great song and reaction
The greatest song on there greatest album
.
absolutely!
Epic album
Wonderful. The band reminds me so much of 10cc at times, too. Check out Old Mister Time to see what I mean.
You’re right. Love 10cc, another underrated band. Art for Art’s Sake, one of my faves.
The entire album is among their best...
Totally agree by centuries 👍👍
Sometimes cover art is just cover art.
This whole album is so damn good. In my mind, Supertramp occupies the same universe as Pink Floyd. Or at least did for the first few albums.
❤❤❤
This song could have extended one full side of an album, and it would leave you wanting to flip it over and continue the other side for more of the same song!!!!!
A lot like other prog rock bands they. Didn’t make songs that got radio play. That was the standard in the 70’s.
Superb band , five great albums shame they drifted away from their peak

Listen to Eddie Rabbit………Driving my life away

This fabulous album still beats the "h" out of Breakfast in America by centuries...love it to death..🎤🎶🇬🇧

Believe me I do like Breakfast but you're right...just me. Could be age..lol.. who knows..👍👍
@@luvutons411 im only 70 so have no idea what your talking about with age. lol
@@luvutons411 You're not alone! My ranking: 1. EITQM; 2. COTC; 3. BIA
To many good song came out at the same time and a lot of great songs were covered up by slightly better songs.
