Yes. But back then the only ending track that mattered was on the A-side. Most albums on the flip-side or B-side were junk or experimental garbage. This is what made Supertramp progressive. They were master craftsmen much like the earlier Wrecking Crew that employed Glenn Cambell. This album took only eight songs from a collection of 40 that they spent two years writing.
I was a Supertramp fan from the beginning. Glad to see them being recognised. I'm still in love with Roger Hodgson... These guys were my people in the 70's, at school..
Went to highschool with John Helliwell's cousin in Toronto, she looked like John's twin. She played French Horn. Saw the Tramp 4 times, brilliant live.🙏🍁
Can't even imagine how bad this was for him and what more we would have heard from him instead if it hadn't happened: Roger Hodgson, known for his work with the band Supertramp, suffered a significant accident in 1987 when he fell asleep in a loft and fell eight feet onto a concrete and brick floor. This accident resulted in both of his wrists being crushed. The prognosis was initially poor, and it was uncertain if he would be able to play music again12. This accident occurred shortly after the release of his album "Hai Hai," and it took him a decade to fully recover both physically and emotionally
Crime of the Century was always the last song played at a Supertramp concert. I've seen them three times. 70's, 80's and somewhere around 2005. This song gives me chills. Always because during the piano solo a big screen would drop and the bars would come flying through space at you. It was so incredibly cool. Supertramp was always about the music, story telling and instrumentation. Their songs make you're imagination go wild, which is what music is supposed to do. The talent of these musicians is second to none in my opinion. One of the most awesome bands ever. Keep listening
One of the best albums of all time. Literal Masterpiece! At 3:05, the sound effect you hear, is a water gong! Thanks for the great reaction as always.🎸
This was when bands made albums Every song was produced at the standard like dark side of the moon. You really need to listen to the whole album to appreciate it and in the 70s if you walked into a high-end stereo shop this is the album the sales person would put on to demonstrate their system.
I saw The "Crime of the Century" tour around '75 or '76. They played the entire album from beginning to end with a large rear projection screen behind them. The visuals were awesome. The last thing on the screen was what you see on the album cover.
I get a chill remembering how the crowd goes crazy when this song starts. We all feel like we're floating through space locked behind bars to end the show.... WOW FACTOR!
yeah, i saw them on the tour for this album as well as even in the quietest moments. they played this as a final song with the bars floating through space on a video screen. except, i don't think it was video back then. i'm pretty sure it was film. both were absolutely incredible concerts though.
John Helliwell is 6'5" with very long blonde hair. The image of him standing center stage blowing that Sax is something I cherish, while Rick looks like a mad man banging on his piano.
I saw these guys during ther "Crisis? What Crisis?" tour of the US. This album was, for must of us, our turn on to Supertramp. To me, nothing has come quite close to it since.
Supertramp is my 2nd Favorite Live show I've ever seen (4 times) Only Pink Floyd is above them (4 times). When Supertramp needed a guitar player after Roger left they asked David Gilmour. When Pink Floyd needed a great Sax player they asked John Helliwell to join them. The two bands have a lot in common.... AWESOMENESS and incredible live shows.
It was the late seventies and attending university. I along with the best girlfriend ever, went to their concert. Huge Supertramp supporter. That album cover was what they played in front of. Cant make that up.
Saw them do the Crime of the Century Live in Scotland. First light show I ever saw. Incredible, I was transported to a place I didn’t want to leave. Immense.
Supertramp (plural supertramps) (ecology) A species of organism that disperses widely and is not adapted to any specific environment. OR.... Rick Davies - Vocals, Piano... Roger Hodgson - Vocals, Guitars/Keyboards. John Helliwell - Sax/Strings-keys . Dougie Thomson - Bass Guitar... Bob Siebenberg - Drums
Supertramp has many great songs in the pocket : « Waiting so long », « Brother were you bound », « Better days », « Cannonball », « Soapbox opera », « Lady », « Fool’s overture », « Babaji », « From now on », « Even in the quietest moments », « Lover boy » ….. If you want other songs by Genesis, I suggest you « Firth of fifth », « The Musical Box », « Supper’s ready », « Fountain of Salmacis », « The return of the Giant Hogweed », « The Cinema show » …. the list is very very very long trust me
The harmonica at the very end is the response to the beginning of « School » …. and guess what, School is the first track of the album and Crime of the Century is the last song !
Very underrated group. My brother introduced me to Supertramp & been a fan since. They had two other albuns that were amazing. Crisis? What Crisis? and Even In The Quietest Moments.
I told my son Mike you did this song, he said.... "You're kidding, what took you so long to suggest it? that song is a masterpiece. Did he like it?.... I said watch his reaction yourself, Yep, he liked it.
That repeating piano part was played all the way to the end by Roger Hodgson. (No repeat software tech available back in '74) It's all real musicians playing lots of keyboards as well as all the other instruments & sounds you hear. Roger's been touring for the past few years and playing the songs he wrote while in Supertramp. He also plays several types of guitars. And you know his "high" vocals are amazing. He's on UA-cam doing several live performances...Check it out. I saw Supertramp in 1979 and there where at least 4 keyboards on the stage as well as a grand piano. It was the best concert I've ever seen before or since. 🙂
@balazsernhaft8337 I know, I fucked up. Sorry, I know it was Rick's song and that he played the piano and Roger played guitar on this one. My point was there was no "repeat tech" in those days. I saw this live in 79.
I was so pleased you mentioned the harmonica at the end of the track for me is genius i sort of want to hear more of it but what you get is just enough
Great reaction! Supertramp does an excellent job here, but personally, Bob Siebenberg's drumming on this song fascinates me. Also, check "Ain't Nobody But Me".
I automaticaly give a thumbs up to every Supertramp reacion. This band deserves much more recognition .Even RickBeato seems to have have missed out on this great band.
Crime of the Century happens to be the last song of the album, ending side 2. The first song on this album is School, and the FIRST thing you hear on that track is a haunting harmonica. Like so many others before and after, they ended the album as they started, or added that element at the end anyways. I have always loved Supertramp, went to see them when I was in 16 in a general admission concert with about a dozen of my classmates. Luckily, we were close to end of school year, had already covered the material and were actually reviewing (students picked topics WE were having trouble with) and had a pretty cool teacher who, when she realized we had all been at the show the night before, basically let us totally relax all period!! And it was a great show, and since it was in 1977 it cost $7.50!!
First of all- One of the greatest album covers of all time. You can't look at it without needing to know what the album sounds like. I hadn't heard this in decades. Amazing track. Every instrument is so clear in the mix, not jumbled together. Steely Dan talent, but without the Seedy underbelly
Great choice , by far the best Supertramp album and this song that give the name its a wonderfull ending . In my opinion , they was on the top at the end of seventies and 80s saw them 3 times in Barcelona. Check the full album , they use to start and end all the shows with the iconic School armonica intro . ❤ keep on rocking
Éste album es una joyota Lo escuchamos mis hermanitas y yo en los 80's gracias a mi amado padre. Forma parte de nuestro obligado repertorio musical Gracias por hacer una reacción de la canción
the Harmonica at the very end was to tie the whole album all together . Please do a reaction to SCHOOL , and you will understand what i mean. its off the same album as CRIME OF THE CENTURY.
Do yourself a favour, and take 40 minutes of your life and listen to the whole album Crime of the Century from start to finish, and when done think about what it is about...you will see a clear theme from start to finish...Supertramp themselves say it is not a concept album, but I don't believe them lol
It’s THE perfect closure for a masterpiece of an album
The whole album is worth every penny. Not one bad song, they're all great. I know since I own one. You sure felt it
Back when the closing track on an album mattered.

One of the greatest/coolest album cover concepts of all time
I would go driving with my Supertramp 8 tracks, haha! I had all of them. Sooo good, huh?
My favorite song from them .... i was lucky enough to see them in Montréal

You are absolutely 100% correct. First note on this album was harmonica, last note on the album was harmonica. That wasn't by accident.
I saw The "Crime of the Century" tour around '75 or '76. They played the entire album from beginning to end with a large rear projection screen behind them. The visuals were awesome. The last thing on the screen was what you see on the album cover.

I only put Pink Floyd above them for live shows, seen both 4 times.@@realitybytez

The Logical Song was our intro to Supertramp. We also found out that often what made the airwaves wasn't sometimes the band's best work.
We was cruzin gettin high listening to Supertramp, Pink Floyd ectopic. We was livin boy!

This has to be the LP of the Century!!!!
"This Was AWESOME!"... followed with... "This Was INTENSE!".... Cool, glad you liked them. I just smile, again
The drummer and guitar its fantastic
Pure music love Supertramp music of my childhood❤
As someone from England who grew up with this LP your reactions are priceless!
The harmonica at the very end is the response to the beginning of « School » …. and guess what, School is the first track of the album and Crime of the Century is the last song !
Waiting so long is my favorite song of theirs. Excellent guitar solo at the end.
If I had to choose only one band I could only listen to for the rest of time, Supertramp would be my choice. IMO they don’t have a bad song.
For me The Grateful Dead, but I hear ya!
i won this back in the day from a radio station in NOLA!!!! Still have it!!!! Love it!!!! Best albumn

Crisis? What Crisis? and
Even In The Quietest Moments.
SUPERTRAMP EXCELENTES VERDADEROS GENIOS DEL ROCK. Mi admiración siempre
Right at 5:25 they include the ‘School’ harmonica into; brilliant! I think it’s their most cinematic song. Great reaction. Thanks.
I also always loved the harmonica at the end in the fade out it's so perfect
I told my son Mike you did this song, he said.... "You're kidding, what took you so long to suggest it? that song is a masterpiece. Did he like it?.... I said watch his reaction yourself, Yep, he liked it.
Amazing song and album. Haunted me as a kid/ young Teen
My all time favorite album, last 2 songs on each side are masterpieces!
Check out School from the same album!
A great song from an amazing band! One of my few regrets in music about no seeing them live at that time.
The way that the organ bleeds into the weeping guitar is profound.
Brilliant

One of the greatest bends of all time!! Very unique and amazing musicians.
I'm 65, and people ask why I only listen to music from the 70s, and this is my answer!😊
I was so pleased you mentioned the harmonica at the end of the track for me is genius i sort of want to hear more of it but what you get is just enough
Music today just isn't the same. I am getting hit HARD by nostalgia! 😮😢🤤

If you did not add this song to their Playlist that would have been the Crime Of The Century.... But you did so....TOO COOL Thanks, again.
Fave song on my fave Supertramp album. It still sounds fresh and no one sounds like them. Prog rock rules.
The decreasing"woing" sound at 3:03 is Bob Siebenberg striking a 0.75m square piece of flat sheet iron and dipping it into a small bathtub of water.
Ahhh interesting!

Try their First album. It's a little different but still very listenable.

Your first experience with The Tramp was.... "RUDY"... Live. They took you on a Train Ride. I suggest all your Subs to watch that reaction.
Essa música é genial !
Now do Rick Davies/Supertramp - "Asylum"

More albums the supertramp please
the Harmonica at the very end was to tie the whole album all together . Please do a reaction to SCHOOL , and you will understand what i mean. its off the same album as CRIME OF THE CENTURY.
It's almost like the second half of this song segues into becoming the outro for the album.
Hell of an outro
Pretty intense 👍
Awesome 👌 👏
This is the way you end an album.
.
Since you appreciate artistic intensity, I recommend Emerson Lake and Palmer: "Tarkus"
Quel merveille cet album avec Pink Floyd le son aucune opposition à mon avis.
Song Request: Starlight by Oktaf Kanis, thanks!
Recommend 10cc "Feel the Benefit". Big multi part song.
If you liked this Ive got a suggestion for you - Memory of a Free Festival by David Bowie

...who are these men of lust, greed and glory. Rip off the mask and let see. Fools Overture next...
por cierto , hasta la portada del álbum es puro talento .
lo tengo en vinilo y otros más pero este es el más técnico de todos, inigualable.
